Man, it definitely sucks that characters and classes are locked behind DLC. Maps and extra lore I get, but content that otherwise isn't cosmetic for the units locked behind a paywall is a pretty outdated thing to do.
Outdated? This trend only started in the last couple years...I'm fine with it though. If I enjoy a game so much that I am willing to spend more money to enjoy it more, then so be it. It's a win-win scenario. I get to enjoy the game more, and the devs get money. I don't see an issue with it.
To be fair, character skins and such are (iirc) one of the main ways that Riot games and Blizzard make their money from LOL and Overwatch, so it's not really "outdated." Like I said, these classes do seem like they'll be overkill for the most part.
Yeah, I'm okay with monetising cosmetic content, but locking classes behind a paywall is a pretty scummy thing to do. Not to mention the absurd pricing of the DLC, which could turn away potential newcomers to the FE franchise
To be fair the classes and characters are not part of the original game so its not like you can't enjoy the whole game without them. Its kinda like the dark flier and dread warrior in fates, nice to have but I've used each a total of once over multiple playthroughs
ZerkMonsterHunter 4 Isn't anything new, but it's still anti-consumer as fuck. Then again, when you put it that way... maybe I can tolerate getting an incomplete experience again. I miss pre-3DS Intelligent Systems. I particularly miss. Advance Wars. Grr.
My only problem with the DLC is that it basically throws strategy out the window. What's the point of thinking if you can just brute force your way through maps? Maybe if enemies scale in difficulty depending on the strength of your army, than that would be one thing. Alas, I doubt that would be the case.
+RJTheHero It's sort of always been this way with the DLC. The extra grinding was able to trivialize Awakening and it definitely trivialized Fates Conquest since you were no longer just stuck to playing the campaign.
Lucky Crit Yeah the dlc also goes out the window if you realized before playing all villagers(other than faye) could level up infinity. Making them brokenly op. Theirs even an area that only took me about 30 minutes to level pretty much one of theirs stats to max (you know other than resistance)
I mostly plan on only getting the Rise of the Deliverance pack, since i like the idea of more chapters to play and more screentime for supporting characters (too bad celica's crew doesnt get some special attention). The overclasses look interesting but they look like they'll trivialize the game's difficulty. And if the 4 new characters are fully voice acted and (hopefully) drawn by hidari, ill buy that pack too.
I'd like to noted that in wretches and riches and band of bandages, the enemies ignores your units and tries to run away, while wealth before health and lords of the grave, the enemies actively attack you. So trying to play the undaunted heroes pack while still in the early stages of the game could prove to be impossible to defeat
I like to think some of the themes of those classes might hint to what type of setting for the next NEW game (like how Dread Fighter in Awakening/Fates and My Castles inspiration) would be it would be cool outside the obvious Medival setting has some Greek/Rome and Persia influences in location, lore and characters!

Everything so far makes me hyped. Btw as far as Alm's extra tier goes it's probably going to be called Conqueror (like Warhart in Awakening). Given the content we're already getting. I think the DLC isn't all too bad to pay for. Even when you overpower your characters in the post-game. It doesn't break the content too much unless you use it uncontrollably. The only time I felt that it broke the game was in Fates Conquest, where grinding was not available to you (nor the extra class rewards).

I'd like to thank you. after pre-ordering emblem warriors (ahead of time) and I was looking for a reason to buy then I stumbled across you channel reviewing fire emblem echoes the way how you explained and also voiced your opinion on how the games features or characters played out, because of that I pre-ordered fire emblem echoes and I also bought the amiibo two pack, so thx man you damn good videos keep up the good work.
I like for the DLC here they have added some things that I thought weren't gonna happen, like the additional classes, the extra story that's set before game and especially the original version of the starshards. The starshards themselves are INSANELY good because the additional growths that they give to characters are huge, I originally thought it was going to be the FE12 version of them but there original version is better. The downside to them along with the Starsphere itself if it keeps it properties is that it'll take up your equipment slot so you'll have to pick between that and your weapon or item. Personally I might pick up the season pass but at the same time I got all the DLC for Fates and I felt that other than the rewards that they gave, there was no need for them at all, but for SoV I will definitely be getting the starshards, the prologue chapters, the golden marks and maybe the classes and grinding ones. I also think there was a missed opportunity to call the gift from the goddess and have it be named Mila's Blessings instead.

Yeah, very true. In a game with a world map and multiple dungeons you can continue to train in the extra grinding maps are definitely not necessary. I'm sure they are faster, though.
+vinnievu1 The entire world map will have enemies that you can skirmish like in Awakening, Birthright, and Sacred Stones (Gaiden was actually the first to include a world map system like this). On top of that there will be unlimited enemies to encounter in dungeons so there will definitely be plenty of opportunities to grind your units if that's what you want.
You *can* grind but it's really slow going once you get higher leveled. I'm trying to lvl 20 everyone before promotion (other than my knights who needed that def boost right away) and it's really painful. I've come too far to stop now, though. Being able to murder entombed rapidly would make the grind go significantly faster.
+Casey Lantz I thought in this game, you want to promote classes right away rather than hold off, with how the stats are distributed it benefits you more to promote them as soon as possible, it works for me, somebody who doesn't like that much grinding, but it seems silly to punish people for doing extra.
I just downloaded this game last night when I go into the mane menu and click on DLC it doesn't show anything says there's nothing to download? And with the e shop closing soon! I wanted to buy the expansion pack unless they included it in my purchase but I don't think I seen anything about that in the description I paid 49.99 and the DLC was 45 you mentioned 😅
the only DLC worth getting for me is the Cipher collab, the Prolouge story and the harder grinding set the rest are meh....if there was a Apotheosis map or a PVP mode in echoes the class one would be useful but sadly there won't be so I'll pass on that till very later the designs look awesome though!

Solid video! I'm super happy about the Cipher DLC coming to English, been going about with the characters in the TCG for close to 2 years now and it's nice to finally see more to them than just memes on the Japanese website.
I looked around (as in 4chan after Cipher livestream), and apparently the Cipher characters are voiced and have regular artwork. Shade is a Saint Ema is Pegasus Knight Yuzu is Priestess Rand is Cavalier
Thank goodness we've got a fairly sensible discussion about DLC here, there's definitely been a lot of people who immediately dismiss it based on the price tag alone. A lot of people forget that all of Awakening's DLC, even if bought in packs, cost more than the game itself, too. In any case, I would like to argue that the Fledgling Warriors pack is arguably useful if you need it for higher difficulties, say, you're struggling with Hard and need a boost to get through. But I can pretty much agree with everything else stated, you do make a compelling argument about why you might not need certain DLC if you're not interested in certain parts. It definitely will help people decide whether they should or shouldn't.
What you said at 5:05 is very important. The DLC's are not preventing us from getting the full, real story. That's very different from Revelations in Fates, where it was the "real", "true" story in a DLC, which was kinda bulshit.
+Guiler Yeah, you're getting the full story with the base game. But if you want some more insight into certain characters and basically flashback chapters, you can certainly buy them. These chapters wouldn't (and couldn't) fit in the main game so they're not story that was cut out at all.
+Alex The Vanishing Dragon I don't think so, but there will be gender restricted classes, like girls will be unable to be archers or mercenaries and guys won't be able to be clerics and pegasus knights and such.
Perhaps you simply glossed over it and I wasn't paying attention, but I'm pretty sure I heard that the Deliverance prologue maps actually also unlock additional support lines between some of the characters involved; offhand, I think one was between Lukas and Forsyth. Support bonuses might be minor, but I do think it's something to consider about those maps, as it would be an added advantage for the main game. Anyway, at this time I feel like I'd want the Cipher DLC, the Deliverance DLC, the two Astral Sanctum maps, and maybe some of the super-class DLC (in particular Alm, Celica, female Mage, and Cleric). The silver and gold maps seem extraneous since I don't know how often I'd want to forge weapons, and I feel that if I need to resort to EXP-grinding DLC then that indicates a problem with the EXP scaling of the base game, and I'd like to believe that the game was at least balanced that well. If the Cipher DLC adds new characters to the game, I'm really curious to see how they handle Yuzu; so far every class she's been depicted in is either male-only or not in Echoes at all.
I really like your FE:Echoes videos (ex: using your voice over trailers etc. & relevant/pleasing thumbnails)! They're very informative and you don't over exaggerate what you're saying, imo. Keep up the good work! Are you planning to do a gameplay type of series for Echoes, or are you just going to stay on the safe side and make videos about them like you've already been doing?
This will be useful, especially with the eshop ending soon. Been trying to find out what people say, especially concerning story relevant DLC. Like I got most of Fates DLC, but I saw the price tag back in the day for Echoes HELL NO not paying the equivalent of a whole other game... but now it's kind of important. Especially concerning Fates, it will be hit the hardest, losing essentially 1/2 the story content, between Revelations and DLC minor chapters, and Revelations is only obtainable via DLC (granted if they haven't already, I imagine getting physical copies of Birthright and Conquest will sky rocket to over 100$ just like any other Fire Emblem game... God I love this franchise, only bought 5 of the 15 games and the rest are emulated because it's the most expensive franchise on the planet for whatever reason). Revelations is the "true" path (story wise yes, but RPG and multiverses hey up to you which one is the true path), to lose it is the biggest stab in the stomach for almost any game on the 3ds or Wii U. Anyways thank you for making this video, 1st video of yours I've seen... I think, unless I just happened upon you at some other point, solid video helps clarify what is in each pack since the actual descriptions in game don't, and helps narrow stuff down. Cipher and story packs I'll probably get, is fledgling confirmed mute (I assume after 4 years this is confirmed one way or another lol), due to the undaunted heroes?

I probably won't get the altars, but I don't know would they be ok in the hardest difficulty setting? Like I imagine that classic hard mode wouldn't be too much of a problem like normal classic was, you just do a lot of grinding, therefor the 4th classes are just to make it even easier, if you just want to breeze through the story. That or maybe Thabes Labyrinth since normal classic it was already challenging. So am I correct in saying they're useless unless I want to breeze for story and breeze through Thabes Labyrinth? I haven't played it since launch, planned on replaying it on a harder difficulty, and with Nintendo shutting the eshop down, figured I'd come back and see which DLCs are important, mostly story wise.

I think all I'm going to get for now is the OverClass DLC, like that is an unbelievably amazing idea imo. Definitely gonna have fun with the unique classes (Pssst, Spartan is the coolest)

I think I might just grab the prologue, late game farming, and tier 4 dlc. I'm not too worried about the cipher dlc and the early farm chapters won't be terribly useful unless the fatigue system is more of a challenge then I've been lead to believe
idk if i'll be able to get dlc. i mean saving for the game is being a chore in of itself let alone having to come up money for dlc. no, i think i'll hold out until i can get a job or something. nintendo sure got greedy with these prices.
I disagree that they are greedy, if you'd like to speak about greed please refer to a series such as the Dynasty Warriors series. They had a hardcore fall from grace recently. Realistically, the stuff that the creators of FE and AW are putting out is a lot more costly than a simple $90/person. Do remember, it's a company that exists to make money and which also employs a lot of people. Do you know how much effort goes into the creation of a single character? Let alone backstory and conversations between that one and another? It's tough work man. I would know, as I am doing the character creation part in a group of friends that I am working on a game with. It's quite a task.
Tiago Soares It's one of the ways that make later productions easier, games cost more and more to make, but are still sold absurdly low. If only chooseable dlc is priced higher, I'm fine with that.
Definitely getting the Prologue set. Might get one of the Undaunted Hero maps... idk... I mostly used those in Awakening and Fates while I was support grinding, and idk how hard supports will be to get here. Also unsure on Ciphers. The purple-haired archer looks super cool.
I only have until the end of August to buy this game before the eShop shuts down, and there's something I really need to know before I buy this game. Am I able to start a new save file at any point in the game and still keep the DLC I purchased afterwards? The reason my question is so specific is because I want to play this game, but right now I have other games I need to finish before playing Echoes. So I figure I'd play Echoes first but only up to the point where I can buy DLC on the world map, then go back and finish my other games, and once I finally play Echoes for real, I can start a new save file and hopefully still keep the DLC I bought.

I'll be getting all the DLC because my 3DS is hacked so why not? Gotta love having a hacked 3DS, also NitroStream is nice for recording as well. Oddly enough, you can't use Freeshop to get the DLC as it fails because the Season Pass's content is incomplete and Freeshop doesn't know how to handle it. You have to use FBI or CIAngel or something to side-load it. Now I gotta find the new DLC Link tomorrow for the DLC that's going to drop on the 25th. I bought the Amiibo and have yet to open them. I don't even know if I want to open them! They do grant access to an exclusive dungeon, but I could use NTR Cheats to access those later on. The other Amiibo from Fire Emblem allow you to summon a Phantom of that character in battle. That's cool I guess.
I'm under the assumption that if you play it while on Celica's side she will get the characters (2 per DLC chapter you play) and vice versa, as with DLC items it gives it to the lord you're currently playing as. I'm doing a video on the DLC characters soon. Stay tuned.
It seems likely that we'll probably never get it at this point considering the game's age now.. I can't imagine that they would make a lot if they localized it and released it now. :(
Hmm... while I did get all the DLC for both Awakening and Fates, here I might not. At least not at first. For grinding, well, might as well get the second one if I get any. The Over-classes look really cool, but that's a bit pricey, I kind of which it cost half as much, might hold off on that. Now, Rise of Deliverance, on the other hand, that I'm definitely getting. This is the type of bonus map I want to see more of, events in the story that don't make sense to have in the main story (usually due to the main character not being present), but help add to the backstory. I know New Mystery of the Emblem has three downloadable chapters like this, and it's nice to see them doing it again. And as for Cipher, I'm gonna wait and see what's involved in it. I really do want the card game to come out in the West, so I'd like to support anything that ties into it at least.
so wait, could the villagers fork turn, lets say Kliff, into a pegasus knight? or is it basically if you want to turn a unit that already has a set class, like Clair, to become a villager then make her a cleric or something.
+Mikey Fetterman I don't think it breaks gender restrictions unfortunately. I think there will be no point using it on characters that are already villagers. I think it's to swap classes for someone else that was set in their starting class!
It allows you to upgrade items. I don't think it will be busted, at the very least, the postgame chapter 6 is supposed to be very challenging, so you'll probably need them. I'm not sure how it works for every weapon just yet, but there are weapons that change into other better weapons once you upgrade them via forging!

I agree. I won't be dropping a dime for the season pass, and I'll only be buying the story DLC, which will be far cheaper. I still do respect this DLC practice, though.
I would probably get both of the first two packs. Though the second pack is a better version of the first, getting both lets one get rewards in the early game while having the option to get better rewards as the player's party becomes strong enough to clear the second pack

Lucky Crit True. Based on the trailers I've seen (I've been avoiding spoiling the gameplay so i don't know how true this will be) it looks like echoes will be following awakening's system of enemies appearing to challenge on old maps, so exp shouldn't be too difficult to come by
I ended up buying the first map pack but that's only because if you did that Gamestop would give you a poster (so it was spend $8 to get the poster or spend $45)
I think I'll get: -the inner sanctum (unlimited & rare weapons, yay) -wealth before health (grinding silver marks in the normal game is a PAIN) -rise of the deliverence pack (I want more story ;_;) I won't get the exp map though because you can get a decent amount of exp in the dungeons and the overworld map battles imo.
I mean I'm most likely gonna get it.. I got into the series at Radiant Dawn and shadow dragon so when I looked around for more and heard that they weren't sure if they were continuing bummed me out (thank Naga that wasn't the case.) I always love more classes and grinding so that's another reason why I'll give those dlc some love. Also interesting we've already seen the villager fork used in a trailer already! For Silque was a Sage in the trailer. Last thing I promise: in the video you stated that the first pack of dlc will be obsolete when the second grind pack drops on the 25th, my only argument is that the first pack was designed around early game grinding so if you're playing on classic and you need a handful of silver coins or another iron sword for a new priestess then it might be nice to run through a safer dungeon.... but like you said in the video take a look at the dlc either on SF or the Nintendo site (I believe the UK version is better because it states about the cipher characters) but this is one to do your research for before you buy. Or play it smart and wait for other opinions on the dlc
I got most of the DLC. There are only 2 dlc I have yet to get which are the lost altars pack and Rise of the deliverance pack. Rise of the deliverance seems very interesting, but the overclass is not for me. However I would get it
Probably gonna buy the overclass DLC cause I'm a stupid sucker for classes. I'll also be getting the Prologue chapters and second boost chapters as well but I won't be getting the first line of boost chapters and I'll wait and see with the cipher maps. I also really like your idea for Marth DLC, maybe more is still on the way? Who knows. As for why they gave Faye the Villager's Fork, they like giving her things she can't have.
I'll be honest I plan on buying 4 of the 5 DLC packs being the first 2 packs that allow for grinding items, EXP and gold, the overclasses pack, and lastly the Cipher Tie-in DLC. the prologue DLC chapters however...That's iffy for me. However I want to support this game to see more remakes under the Echoes name. Let's be real here seeing more remakes of games we haven't seen in the west and hell even remakes of FE7 and 8 would just be the icing on the cake of the Echoes name.
After looking more in depth into the DLC, I think I will get the season pass and amiibo. The first wave would be good early on if I need the help (which I honestly doubt I will), the second pass is better late game where battles get more brutal. The extra classes seem unnecessary, but it's like getting the True Master Sword dlc in Breath of the Wild, you want to see just how strong you can get. And the extra prologue chapters may be nice after game or the second time around. The last one is most likely extra characters since your army will be needing them. As for the amiibo, I'll be honest, I wont be using them except to go through the dungeons. The summoning is only good for classic or if you suck and I'm a very talented filthy casual.

No, the Season pass is the cheapest. If you buy all the "packs" separately you won't lose that much money, but if you buy the individual "maps" separately it will cost a lot more.
I'm probably only going to get the four addition characters, if we do get them. The history chapters sound interesting, but by the wording it sounds like the extra characters are exclusive to those chapters so I'll probably skip out on them. Kinda wish they'd spoil us with the Awakening Spotpass again.
I will probably skip out on dlc. The game looks great as is, however I might get the prologue chapters in the future if I want to learn more about the lore. Can't wait for this game any longer. It looks like it will be a fantastic game.
Rise of the Deliverance is totally worth it. More of the great characters, voice acting, and more context to the beginning of the game. The Overclass Shrines break the game though, so I don't recommend that pack. The extra map packs are pretty useful, so if you want some extra marks and exp, picking up that pack is a good idea. The Cipher pack is not really necessary, but it's interesting how they added more characters to Echoes imo. I was already struggling during the main game to fit all of my favorite and best units on a team, so adding more characters is sure to make that even more difficult, at least in my experience. I enjoyed the small amount of units in Echoes because it allows you to get to know each of them a lot better than if they were among a gigantic cast of characters. Sure, big casts give the games more replay-ability, but having every single character voiced is a really good trade off imo. Sorry for the rant. I'll get back to FE6 now.

The math comes from buying maps individually. Obviously they're going to showcase the full extent of the discount vs individual purchases, not the additional partial discount vs an already given discount for packs as a whole.
Yes indeed, at the time of making this though it hadn't been confirmed if they would be selling individual maps/dlc, so I couldn't really say 100% for sure yet.
The only problem that I have are the new classes. Most other games only provide a base class and one promotion. Gaiden offered two promotions... Now why are they giving us a 3rd promotion? Seems like serious overkill
thnx for the detailed info on the DLCs, im always on budget when it comes to DLCs ever since awakening and just bought the "essentials" in terms of my preference and so far my budget plan goes as follows; DLC1: no need, cause of it being redundant and obselete, DLC2: i just need the Medals and items dlc but since exp will be cheaper if i bought the pack, i might as well add $2, who knows if u really need it when playing on hard or luna, DLC3: it is overkill but the designs are just so dam good, will still buy it, DLC4: ill just buy the one with Claire and Mathilda (i like these two more than the other characters), DLC5: depending if the 4 characters will either be GENERIC (cannot support convo ingame story characters) or actual units that can talk to other units... so basically (10+15+4 (+4.5) = $29 to $33.5) ... ouch
I'm not disappointed in the dlc content. Hell, I support giving the old story something extra and I love to see Cipher getting introduced to the west. It's the prices I find ludicrous and inexcusable. You're not going to convince me that two maps with already implemented enemies and a dungeon, of which all three together can be build and tested within a week by a random ROM-hacker, is worth 8 bucks. It's worth 3 at most, and even that price is quite high to most people. And a prologue to tie the story together is nice and adds to the experience, but 13 bucks for basically 5 maps with some extra lines from characters that, again, can be build and tested by one random person within a week. is utter bullshit. I really want to buy the cipher, over-class and prologue stories, but I'll refrain from doing so just to send a message, and I hope more people will do so. This kind of practices will ruin both company support and consumer morality in the long run, branding IS and Nintendo the next EA. We'll have to show them we don't appreciate these practices.
the Cipher DLC is definitely worth it. and the wave 1 DLC is prolly not needed depending on how hard "Hard Mode" is. and you do lots of grinding anyway... the overclass DLC is what it says, an over-kill lmao. ill get it if my curiosity gets the better of me. the story DLC i may not get since i didnt even get the Awakening and Fates child DLC paralogues. we didnt get a Apotheosis map in Fates, ima hope we get one here.
I'm getting the season pass to 1) support this remake and 2) I do enjoy all what it has to offer. yes its pricey but for the content it brings and the fun I will have with the game I'm not stressed! I would like to add one more thing, people bitch about the season pass YET the amiibos costs just as much for 2 extra maps
Most likely in warriors, but for now, they have 1 use which is this game. Just easy for people to jump on this in hate but they forget they are paying money for hard copy DLC's. But that's ok why? both are the same thing in a sense.

I will be getting the season pass. A lot of people have been bitching about the price tag but don't keep in mind that previous dlc on the past 2 games amounted almost as much or even more than this time (fates routes). Granted, it is an hefty pricetag, but you can always hope and wait for a discount. all and all, i think it's worth it.

I'll get the Rise of the Deliverance stuff, but I probably won't get anything else as I don't want to support these shady DLC policies. Edit: Just to let people understand what I mean by shady policies, I mean the fact that the DLC is almost all out in Japan in about a month. DLC coming this fast and so quick smells of keeping back content for money grabbing with DLC.
I get what you're saying, but at the same time everyone is kinda forgetting an important fact. Echoes is just a faithful remake of gaiden all the DLC is content that was never present in the original game. The first two of the dlc packs exist solely for helping making the game as a whole easier and isn't really intended if one were to play the game normally. Giving you the ability to farm for the star shards to give you better stat growths something that normally one wouldn't be able change, access to greater experience amounts than would normally be found in the game, and lastly having access to reliable money farming in a game that's focused on having limited resources you are literally essentially buying cheats with these packs. The Lost Alters pack is new unit types giving you the option to promote a unit a 3rd or 4th time when used in conjunction with the grinding dlc having a an additional 20 levels for a chance to gain better stats isn't that bad add on new animations and character designs priced at $2 per character is actually not that bad people pay on average $1 or equivalent to it for cosmetic changes an additional $1 to get stat increases is equally reasonable This content isn't cut content as it was never intended to be in the game at all but they know the fans love this shit so they offered us additional classes to a game that honestly doesn't have all that many classes in comparison to the other games. Rise of Deliverance is additional lore and storytelling as well as support conversations priced individually at a fair price and you save a some cash buying them in a pack, but objectively it's the only one where the argument of keeping content back for money grabbing is most valid;However, in a game that's a faithful remake to the original having it as paid dlc is pretty much what the definition of paid dlc is. Cipher Companions are 4 new characters that to my knowledge have only been seen in the trading card game and is priced extremely reasonable and you aren't required to have to go buy the packs and get the cards required to gain access to them. Once again to reiterate, all of this paid dlc was all content that wasn't available at all in the original game. They rewrote the original games program gave it modern days graphic then sold it and asked for a price that any other game of its standard would ask then they made additional content and offered it the fans giving them the choice to either add it to the game or choose to keep the original game as it was. Honestly the only DLC here I can see their being an argument in is ironically the dlc you actually are buying. The biggest drawback to these dlcs is the fact that there actually is a lot of dlc especially for a handheld game and when you price it out individually it ends up with a price that is of a higher value than game which for a hand held game is insane but most importantly different. This is something you expect in a mmo or a triple a title; however, you're getting DLC that when you look at is the equivalent to those. That being said they give you the option to buy everything individually so if you already know for a fact you could care less for lot the content you have the option of getting the content that you care about. I rather like that as compared to say COD where all I actually want are the zombie maps, and to get the content I actually want I have to also get a lot of content I don't want, so I just end up deciding against entirely. At least here I'm given choice of adding to my game or not, and personally despite how fast it is being released it doesn't go against what the originally said Echoes was going to be a faithful remake to gaiden with no additional content which it is. I'm given choice on getting which content I want to add to the game or not add so I can respect this and this was announced from the get go there's nothing really shady here when this was all announced from the get go as far as I'm concerned, but to each their own.

Man, it definitely sucks that characters and classes are locked behind DLC. Maps and extra lore I get, but content that otherwise isn't cosmetic for the units locked behind a paywall is a pretty outdated thing to do.
Outdated? This trend only started in the last couple years...I'm fine with it though. If I enjoy a game so much that I am willing to spend more money to enjoy it more, then so be it. It's a win-win scenario. I get to enjoy the game more, and the devs get money. I don't see an issue with it.

To be fair, character skins and such are (iirc) one of the main ways that Riot games and Blizzard make their money from LOL and Overwatch, so it's not really "outdated." Like I said, these classes do seem like they'll be overkill for the most part.

+RJTheHero It's sort of always been this way with the DLC. The extra grinding was able to trivialize Awakening and it definitely trivialized Fates Conquest since you were no longer just stuck to playing the campaign.
Lucky Crit Yeah the dlc also goes out the window if you realized before playing all villagers(other than faye) could level up infinity. Making them brokenly op. Theirs even an area that only took me about 30 minutes to level pretty much one of theirs stats to max (you know other than resistance)

I mostly plan on only getting the Rise of the Deliverance pack, since i like the idea of more chapters to play and more screentime for supporting characters (too bad celica's crew doesnt get some special attention). The overclasses look interesting but they look like they'll trivialize the game's difficulty. And if the 4 new characters are fully voice acted and (hopefully) drawn by hidari, ill buy that pack too.
I'd like to noted that in wretches and riches and band of bandages, the enemies ignores your units and tries to run away, while wealth before health and lords of the grave, the enemies actively attack you. So trying to play the undaunted heroes pack while still in the early stages of the game could prove to be impossible to defeat

I like to think some of the themes of those classes might hint to what type of setting for the next NEW game (like how Dread Fighter in Awakening/Fates and My Castles inspiration) would be it would be cool outside the obvious Medival setting has some Greek/Rome and Persia influences in location, lore and characters!

Everything so far makes me hyped. Btw as far as Alm's extra tier goes it's probably going to be called Conqueror (like Warhart in Awakening). Given the content we're already getting. I think the DLC isn't all too bad to pay for. Even when you overpower your characters in the post-game. It doesn't break the content too much unless you use it uncontrollably. The only time I felt that it broke the game was in Fates Conquest, where grinding was not available to you (nor the extra class rewards).

I like for the DLC here they have added some things that I thought weren't gonna happen, like the additional classes, the extra story that's set before game and especially the original version of the starshards. The starshards themselves are INSANELY good because the additional growths that they give to characters are huge, I originally thought it was going to be the FE12 version of them but there original version is better. The downside to them along with the Starsphere itself if it keeps it properties is that it'll take up your equipment slot so you'll have to pick between that and your weapon or item. Personally I might pick up the season pass but at the same time I got all the DLC for Fates and I felt that other than the rewards that they gave, there was no need for them at all, but for SoV I will definitely be getting the starshards, the prologue chapters, the golden marks and maybe the classes and grinding ones. I also think there was a missed opportunity to call the gift from the goddess and have it be named Mila's Blessings instead.

Yeah, very true. In a game with a world map and multiple dungeons you can continue to train in the extra grinding maps are definitely not necessary. I'm sure they are faster, though.

+vinnievu1 The entire world map will have enemies that you can skirmish like in Awakening, Birthright, and Sacred Stones (Gaiden was actually the first to include a world map system like this). On top of that there will be unlimited enemies to encounter in dungeons so there will definitely be plenty of opportunities to grind your units if that's what you want.
You *can* grind but it's really slow going once you get higher leveled. I'm trying to lvl 20 everyone before promotion (other than my knights who needed that def boost right away) and it's really painful. I've come too far to stop now, though. Being able to murder entombed rapidly would make the grind go significantly faster.
+Casey Lantz I thought in this game, you want to promote classes right away rather than hold off, with how the stats are distributed it benefits you more to promote them as soon as possible, it works for me, somebody who doesn't like that much grinding, but it seems silly to punish people for doing extra.
I just downloaded this game last night when I go into the mane menu and click on DLC it doesn't show anything says there's nothing to download? And with the e shop closing soon! I wanted to buy the expansion pack unless they included it in my purchase but I don't think I seen anything about that in the description I paid 49.99 and the DLC was 45 you mentioned 😅
the only DLC worth getting for me is the Cipher collab, the Prolouge story and the harder grinding set the rest are meh....if there was a Apotheosis map or a PVP mode in echoes the class one would be useful but sadly there won't be so I'll pass on that till very later the designs look awesome though!

Thank goodness we've got a fairly sensible discussion about DLC here, there's definitely been a lot of people who immediately dismiss it based on the price tag alone. A lot of people forget that all of Awakening's DLC, even if bought in packs, cost more than the game itself, too.
In any case, I would like to argue that the Fledgling Warriors pack is arguably useful if you need it for higher difficulties, say, you're struggling with Hard and need a boost to get through. But I can pretty much agree with everything else stated, you do make a compelling argument about why you might not need certain DLC if you're not interested in certain parts. It definitely will help people decide whether they should or shouldn't.
What you said at 5:05 is very important. The DLC's are not preventing us from getting the full, real story. That's very different from Revelations in Fates, where it was the "real", "true" story in a DLC, which was kinda bulshit.
+Guiler Yeah, you're getting the full story with the base game. But if you want some more insight into certain characters and basically flashback chapters, you can certainly buy them. These chapters wouldn't (and couldn't) fit in the main game so they're not story that was cut out at all.

Perhaps you simply glossed over it and I wasn't paying attention, but I'm pretty sure I heard that the Deliverance prologue maps actually also unlock additional support lines between some of the characters involved; offhand, I think one was between Lukas and Forsyth. Support bonuses might be minor, but I do think it's something to consider about those maps, as it would be an added advantage for the main game.
Anyway, at this time I feel like I'd want the Cipher DLC, the Deliverance DLC, the two Astral Sanctum maps, and maybe some of the super-class DLC (in particular Alm, Celica, female Mage, and Cleric). The silver and gold maps seem extraneous since I don't know how often I'd want to forge weapons, and I feel that if I need to resort to EXP-grinding DLC then that indicates a problem with the EXP scaling of the base game, and I'd like to believe that the game was at least balanced that well.
If the Cipher DLC adds new characters to the game, I'm really curious to see how they handle Yuzu; so far every class she's been depicted in is either male-only or not in Echoes at all.

This will be useful, especially with the eshop ending soon. Been trying to find out what people say, especially concerning story relevant DLC. Like I got most of Fates DLC, but I saw the price tag back in the day for Echoes HELL NO not paying the equivalent of a whole other game... but now it's kind of important. Especially concerning Fates, it will be hit the hardest, losing essentially 1/2 the story content, between Revelations and DLC minor chapters, and Revelations is only obtainable via DLC (granted if they haven't already, I imagine getting physical copies of Birthright and Conquest will sky rocket to over 100$ just like any other Fire Emblem game... God I love this franchise, only bought 5 of the 15 games and the rest are emulated because it's the most expensive franchise on the planet for whatever reason). Revelations is the "true" path (story wise yes, but RPG and multiverses hey up to you which one is the true path), to lose it is the biggest stab in the stomach for almost any game on the 3ds or Wii U. Anyways thank you for making this video, 1st video of yours I've seen... I think, unless I just happened upon you at some other point, solid video helps clarify what is in each pack since the actual descriptions in game don't, and helps narrow stuff down. Cipher and story packs I'll probably get, is fledgling confirmed mute (I assume after 4 years this is confirmed one way or another lol), due to the undaunted heroes?

I probably won't get the altars, but I don't know would they be ok in the hardest difficulty setting? Like I imagine that classic hard mode wouldn't be too much of a problem like normal classic was, you just do a lot of grinding, therefor the 4th classes are just to make it even easier, if you just want to breeze through the story. That or maybe Thabes Labyrinth since normal classic it was already challenging. So am I correct in saying they're useless unless I want to breeze for story and breeze through Thabes Labyrinth? I haven't played it since launch, planned on replaying it on a harder difficulty, and with Nintendo shutting the eshop down, figured I'd come back and see which DLCs are important, mostly story wise.

I disagree that they are greedy, if you'd like to speak about greed please refer to a series such as the Dynasty Warriors series. They had a hardcore fall from grace recently. Realistically, the stuff that the creators of FE and AW are putting out is a lot more costly than a simple $90/person. Do remember, it's a company that exists to make money and which also employs a lot of people. Do you know how much effort goes into the creation of a single character? Let alone backstory and conversations between that one and another? It's tough work man. I would know, as I am doing the character creation part in a group of friends that I am working on a game with. It's quite a task.

I only have until the end of August to buy this game before the eShop shuts down, and there's something I really need to know before I buy this game. Am I able to start a new save file at any point in the game and still keep the DLC I purchased afterwards?
The reason my question is so specific is because I want to play this game, but right now I have other games I need to finish before playing Echoes. So I figure I'd play Echoes first but only up to the point where I can buy DLC on the world map, then go back and finish my other games, and once I finally play Echoes for real, I can start a new save file and hopefully still keep the DLC I bought.

Oddly enough, you can't use Freeshop to get the DLC as it fails because the Season Pass's content is incomplete and Freeshop doesn't know how to handle it. You have to use FBI or CIAngel or something to side-load it.
Now I gotta find the new DLC Link tomorrow for the DLC that's going to drop on the 25th.
I bought the Amiibo and have yet to open them. I don't even know if I want to open them! They do grant access to an exclusive dungeon, but I could use NTR Cheats to access those later on.
The other Amiibo from Fire Emblem allow you to summon a Phantom of that character in battle. That's cool I guess.

I'm under the assumption that if you play it while on Celica's side she will get the characters (2 per DLC chapter you play) and vice versa, as with DLC items it gives it to the lord you're currently playing as. I'm doing a video on the DLC characters soon. Stay tuned.

It seems likely that we'll probably never get it at this point considering the game's age now.. I can't imagine that they would make a lot if they localized it and released it now. :(
Hmm... while I did get all the DLC for both Awakening and Fates, here I might not. At least not at first. For grinding, well, might as well get the second one if I get any. The Over-classes look really cool, but that's a bit pricey, I kind of which it cost half as much, might hold off on that.
Now, Rise of Deliverance, on the other hand, that I'm definitely getting. This is the type of bonus map I want to see more of, events in the story that don't make sense to have in the main story (usually due to the main character not being present), but help add to the backstory. I know New Mystery of the Emblem has three downloadable chapters like this, and it's nice to see them doing it again. And as for Cipher, I'm gonna wait and see what's involved in it. I really do want the card game to come out in the West, so I'd like to support anything that ties into it at least.

Hey Lucky Crit, so how does forging fair in this game, does it break the game in anyway?
It allows you to upgrade items. I don't think it will be busted, at the very least, the postgame chapter 6 is supposed to be very challenging, so you'll probably need them. I'm not sure how it works for every weapon just yet, but there are weapons that change into other better weapons once you upgrade them via forging!
If you use the Villager's Fork with Faye, could she become an Archer like in FE Heroes?
+Blake Wilt No. That's why it's weird they gave it to her in this screen shot. Archers are male only which is why even though she is a villager she can't class change into one.

This is how DLC SHOULD be done. A full story in the actual game with nothing but bonuses and side stories as a bonus.

I would probably get both of the first two packs. Though the second pack is a better version of the first, getting both lets one get rewards in the early game while having the option to get better rewards as the player's party becomes strong enough to clear the second pack

Lucky Crit True. Based on the trailers I've seen (I've been avoiding spoiling the gameplay so i don't know how true this will be) it looks like echoes will be following awakening's system of enemies appearing to challenge on old maps, so exp shouldn't be too difficult to come by
I ended up buying the first map pack but that's only because if you did that Gamestop would give you a poster (so it was spend $8 to get the poster or spend $45)

I think I'll get:
-the inner sanctum (unlimited & rare weapons, yay)
-wealth before health (grinding silver marks in the normal game is a PAIN)
-rise of the deliverence pack (I want more story ;_;)
I won't get the exp map though because you can get a decent amount of exp in the dungeons and the overworld map battles imo.

I mean I'm most likely gonna get it.. I got into the series at Radiant Dawn and shadow dragon so when I looked around for more and heard that they weren't sure if they were continuing bummed me out (thank Naga that wasn't the case.) I always love more classes and grinding so that's another reason why I'll give those dlc some love.
Also interesting we've already seen the villager fork used in a trailer already! For Silque was a Sage in the trailer.
Last thing I promise: in the video you stated that the first pack of dlc will be obsolete when the second grind pack drops on the 25th, my only argument is that the first pack was designed around early game grinding so if you're playing on classic and you need a handful of silver coins or another iron sword for a new priestess then it might be nice to run through a safer dungeon.... but like you said in the video take a look at the dlc either on SF or the Nintendo site (I believe the UK version is better because it states about the cipher characters) but this is one to do your research for before you buy.
Or play it smart and wait for other opinions on the dlc
I got most of the DLC. There are only 2 dlc I have yet to get which are the lost altars pack and Rise of the deliverance pack. Rise of the deliverance seems very interesting, but the overclass is not for me. However I would get it
Probably gonna buy the overclass DLC cause I'm a stupid sucker for classes. I'll also be getting the Prologue chapters and second boost chapters as well but I won't be getting the first line of boost chapters and I'll wait and see with the cipher maps. I also really like your idea for Marth DLC, maybe more is still on the way? Who knows. As for why they gave Faye the Villager's Fork, they like giving her things she can't have.
I'll be honest I plan on buying 4 of the 5 DLC packs being the first 2 packs that allow for grinding items, EXP and gold, the overclasses pack, and lastly the Cipher Tie-in DLC. the prologue DLC chapters however...That's iffy for me. However I want to support this game to see more remakes under the Echoes name. Let's be real here seeing more remakes of games we haven't seen in the west and hell even remakes of FE7 and 8 would just be the icing on the cake of the Echoes name.

After looking more in depth into the DLC, I think I will get the season pass and amiibo.
The first wave would be good early on if I need the help (which I honestly doubt I will), the second pass is better late game where battles get more brutal. The extra classes seem unnecessary, but it's like getting the True Master Sword dlc in Breath of the Wild, you want to see just how strong you can get. And the extra prologue chapters may be nice after game or the second time around.
The last one is most likely extra characters since your army will be needing them.
As for the amiibo, I'll be honest, I wont be using them except to go through the dungeons. The summoning is only good for classic or if you suck and I'm a very talented filthy casual.

No, the Season pass is the cheapest. If you buy all the "packs" separately you won't lose that much money, but if you buy the individual "maps" separately it will cost a lot more.
I'm probably only going to get the four addition characters, if we do get them. The history chapters sound interesting, but by the wording it sounds like the extra characters are exclusive to those chapters so I'll probably skip out on them. Kinda wish they'd spoil us with the Awakening Spotpass again.

Personally I'm planning on getting packs 3, 4, and 5. I love classes and pack 3 is the one I'm most hyped for
Rise of the Deliverance is totally worth it. More of the great characters, voice acting, and more context to the beginning of the game. The Overclass Shrines break the game though, so I don't recommend that pack. The extra map packs are pretty useful, so if you want some extra marks and exp, picking up that pack is a good idea. The Cipher pack is not really necessary, but it's interesting how they added more characters to Echoes imo. I was already struggling during the main game to fit all of my favorite and best units on a team, so adding more characters is sure to make that even more difficult, at least in my experience. I enjoyed the small amount of units in Echoes because it allows you to get to know each of them a lot better than if they were among a gigantic cast of characters. Sure, big casts give the games more replay-ability, but having every single character voiced is a really good trade off imo. Sorry for the rant. I'll get back to FE6 now.

The math comes from buying maps individually. Obviously they're going to showcase the full extent of the discount vs individual purchases, not the additional partial discount vs an already given discount for packs as a whole.
Yes indeed, at the time of making this though it hadn't been confirmed if they would be selling individual maps/dlc, so I couldn't really say 100% for sure yet.
well if u add all the dlc prices together, the season pass is worth it. Since all of it out atm is over $45. its almost $90
The only problem that I have are the new classes. Most other games only provide a base class and one promotion. Gaiden offered two promotions... Now why are they giving us a 3rd promotion? Seems like serious overkill
thnx for the detailed info on the DLCs, im always on budget when it comes to DLCs ever since awakening and just bought the "essentials" in terms of my preference and so far my budget plan goes as follows; DLC1: no need, cause of it being redundant and obselete, DLC2: i just need the Medals and items dlc but since exp will be cheaper if i bought the pack, i might as well add $2, who knows if u really need it when playing on hard or luna, DLC3: it is overkill but the designs are just so dam good, will still buy it, DLC4: ill just buy the one with Claire and Mathilda (i like these two more than the other characters), DLC5: depending if the 4 characters will either be GENERIC (cannot support convo ingame story characters) or actual units that can talk to other units... so basically (10+15+4 (+4.5) = $29 to $33.5)

I'm not disappointed in the dlc content. Hell, I support giving the old story something extra and I love to see Cipher getting introduced to the west. It's the prices I find ludicrous and inexcusable.
You're not going to convince me that two maps with already implemented enemies and a dungeon, of which all three together can be build and tested within a week by a random ROM-hacker, is worth 8 bucks. It's worth 3 at most, and even that price is quite high to most people.
And a prologue to tie the story together is nice and adds to the experience, but 13 bucks for basically 5 maps with some extra lines from characters that, again, can be build and tested by one random person within a week. is utter bullshit.
I really want to buy the cipher, over-class and prologue stories, but I'll refrain from doing so just to send a message, and I hope more people will do so. This kind of practices will ruin both company support and consumer morality in the long run, branding IS and Nintendo the next EA. We'll have to show them we don't appreciate these practices.

the Cipher DLC is definitely worth it. and the wave 1 DLC is prolly not needed depending on how hard "Hard Mode" is. and you do lots of grinding anyway...

I'm getting the season pass to 1) support this remake and 2) I do enjoy all what it has to offer. yes its pricey but for the content it brings and the fun I will have with the game I'm not stressed!

I will be getting the season pass. A lot of people have been bitching about the price tag but don't keep in mind that previous dlc on the past 2 games amounted almost as much or even more than this time (fates routes). Granted, it is an hefty pricetag, but you can always hope and wait for a discount. all and all, i think it's worth it.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time everyone is kinda forgetting an important fact. Echoes is just a faithful remake of gaiden all the DLC is content that was never present in the original game. The first two of the dlc packs exist solely for helping making the game as a whole easier and isn't really intended if one were to play the game normally. Giving you the ability to farm for the star shards to give you better stat growths something that normally one wouldn't be able change, access to greater experience amounts than would normally be found in the game, and lastly having access to reliable money farming in a game that's focused on having limited resources you are literally essentially buying cheats with these packs.
The Lost Alters pack is new unit types giving you the option to promote a unit a 3rd or 4th time when used in conjunction with the grinding dlc having a an additional 20 levels for a chance to gain better stats isn't that bad add on new animations and character designs priced at $2 per character is actually not that bad people pay on average $1 or equivalent to it for cosmetic changes an additional $1 to get stat increases is equally reasonable This content isn't cut content as it was never intended to be in the game at all but they know the fans love this shit so they offered us additional classes to a game that honestly doesn't have all that many classes in comparison to the other games.
Rise of Deliverance is additional lore and storytelling as well as support conversations priced individually at a fair price and you save a some cash buying them in a pack, but objectively it's the only one where the argument of keeping content back for money grabbing is most valid;However, in a game that's a faithful remake to the original having it as paid dlc is pretty much what the definition of paid dlc is.
Cipher Companions are 4 new characters that to my knowledge have only been seen in the trading card game and is priced extremely reasonable and you aren't required to have to go buy the packs and get the cards required to gain access to them.
Once again to reiterate, all of this paid dlc was all content that wasn't available at all in the original game. They rewrote the original games program gave it modern days graphic then sold it and asked for a price that any other game of its standard would ask then they made additional content and offered it the fans giving them the choice to either add it to the game or choose to keep the original game as it was. Honestly the only DLC here I can see their being an argument in is ironically the dlc you actually are buying.
The biggest drawback to these dlcs is the fact that there actually is a lot of dlc especially for a handheld game and when you price it out individually it ends up with a price that is of a higher value than game which for a hand held game is insane but most importantly different. This is something you expect in a mmo or a triple a title; however, you're getting DLC that when you look at is the equivalent to those. That being said they give you the option to buy everything individually so if you already know for a fact you could care less for lot the content you have the option of getting the content that you care about. I rather like that as compared to say COD where all I actually want are the zombie maps, and to get the content I actually want I have to also get a lot of content I don't want, so I just end up deciding against entirely. At least here I'm given choice of adding to my game or not, and personally despite how fast it is being released it doesn't go against what the originally said Echoes was going to be a faithful remake to gaiden with no additional content which it is. I'm given choice on getting which content I want to add to the game or not add so I can respect this and this was announced from the get go there's nothing really shady here when this was all announced from the get go as far as I'm concerned, but to each their own.
