    This was fantastic! This is exactly what I need and want to see. Perfect example of what socializing our puppy should look like. Thanks Tom for showing it with Burleigh. He is growing so fast. He’s in good hands! Keep these Burleigh puppy videos coming. I’m learning so much for our just turned 1 yr old female boxer.

    Watched this video with my 4 year old for some socialization tips for OUR puppy, and got a great kick out of being able to tell her that Burleigh is as old as our pup, but weighs as much as our 8 year old American Bulldog. She was shocked ("What on earth!!!" 🤭). Thank you for so many thorough, detailed and wonderful videos - they are a great companion to our own weekly sessions with our trainer!

    Absolute favourite breed shown at its best. They are solid companions and if set boundaries and just good social manners they thrive. I say perfect for single women who are active as they can read energies and good judge of situations. Non intrusive in public. My girl waits for me to introduce her and knows to look at my face. They try to be bossy and have selective hearing on open ground to do perimeter checks. Mine live with tiny rescue dogs and foster dogs. Zero reaction even if pushed. I call my girl the plod donkey lol. So glad i found her. Very special.

    I love this so much, because positive only folk only shows puppy "training" in perfect scenario's with easy dogs. This is raw, uncut, totally random (so not perfect), with one of the most difficult to socialize puppies. Bravo! This helps a TON of people, I am sure.

    Seeing Burleigh being such a little puppy but super confident and protective is just incredible!😭😭 I got an XL bully from a well known kennel in the US shipped to my country when he was about 2 years old, as a teenager, and we got him a trainer the day he arrived. He's about 160lbs now but super fearful and nervous about everything and I really mean everything like toys, collars, leash, his own couch, of course other people, dogs, sounds and scents. Scared of taking shower, scared of dryer, even scared to pee or poop if there's a bug.... and has 0 food drive so treats never worked sometimes even won't eat his food for no reasons. Always runs away and tries to hide his big ass when got scared... My trainer and now my family takes him out twice a day every day for at least 2 hours no matter the weather or time just to socialize and desensitize. He's been with my family for almost a year and he made 0 progress still the biggest coward...

    Super interesting to see a Boerie trained this way. In South Africa they're used as guard dogs on farms a lot. In that setting they're mostly trained by the older dog in a kind of apprenticeship and it's definitely not gentle. They're also not socialised as a rule. When you stop at a farmhouse and you don't know the Boerie yet, you do NOT get out of the car until the owner is there and you don't move freely until you get the handshake that tells the good boy/girl that you're okay.

  • @rugu-me
    @rugu-me 24 дні тому +3

    Boerboels are so pushy, they like to play rough and do not care much if the other dog (or a person for that matter) doesn't want to play with them, we have to be very firm with them about the boundaries. My BB didn't care about other dog's body language when he was a pup. He just kept being pushy even if that dog was growling at him, kind of using dogs as his toys. We used to go to a good dog park when he was a pup and he was having too much fun, but we stopped when he got bigger cause his playful pushiness annoyed some dogs so much that it was getting perceived as arrogant and impolite and started to become a risk for a conflict. He showed zero aggression at all times, wanted to play with 2 giant Leonbergers that were barking at his face, wore a bity Jack Russel that was hanging on his stretchy lips like a brooch or using calming signal of looking away with barking dogs he's not sure about. In the controlled environment eventually he learned to be polite and neutral and naturally focusses on me now. BB are very stable dogs, strong headed but grounded.
    Thanks for posting this journey, Burleigh will bring you all the way to 1 M subs.

    You nailed the Boerboel breed right on the head, stubborn is the number one thing and very confident. They are some the most protective for sure and the most loyal breed you will ever see. I love when people see mine and are like I want one. People should do a lot of research on the breed and when they think they are ready do more as they are a very strong breed that is not for a lot of people as they will not be able to handle the breed if not experienced.

    • @dianadelcastillo1896
      @dianadelcastillo1896 23 дні тому +1

      You're probably just not as generally social as some people lol. But hey, to each his own, right? As for me, I get filled with pride when people love on my dogs and I see the joy that my dogs brings to those people 😊 But it rarely happens coz where I'm from, most people are scared of big dogs.
      I was wondering, since you get grumpy when people invade your & your dog's space, how does your dog react to them? Does he feel your energy and get grumpy too? I hope my question isn't too forward...

    Omg please more videos like this. What a good boy. Love getting to see his behavior real time. Your silence while watching and evaluating his behavior gives me the listener time to do my own thinking and evaluating independently. You then follow up with your proffesional advise and opinion, polishing off my internal commentry. Love getting to see his behavior. I personaly rather train a puppy like Burleigh who's a "bossy puppy" with playful confidence than one who is timid, seems like a blast. Keep being patient, you are doing such a good job. No Bad Dogs.😍🥰🤩

    This video was so awesome!!! Seeing it out in the real world and you explaining everything right after... had my full attention the whole time... I had one of my female bloodhound pups come back at age 3.5yrs and he had never been socialized, no manners, extremely fear aggressive, n scared of everything... he spent that 3.5yrs prior in a kennel or on a chain n we were only told they didn't have the time or money to keep him and he was ruining everything... come to find out he was super skinny and showed soooo many signs of being beat... n they got a new puppy less than a month after surrendering him to us, which makes me furious... but I'm doing my best to show him love and that things aren't that scary but also setting rules and boundaries... your videos have helped me so much!!! ❤

    • @Missfoxtooyou

      Around 10 months they are becoming adults, and if your dog was in tacked, hormones are kicking in. People forget our dogs, babies, bubbas whatever name you want to use are animals and yes they will bite if someone makes them uncomfortable, and we miss their cues.
      I too refuse to have strangers pet my boy, it doesn’t benefit him and only benefits the person. Plus I’ve muzzle trained my boy, because you never know in unknown areas and the vet.

    13:38 This video was great! I have a mastiff mixed with boxer and he is the most stubborn dog I've ever owned! I've had him 2yrs now and he barks at everything. I chocked it up to just being vocal initially but being that he still does it, concerns me. He barks at things he's afraid of, likes and may be intimated by. Dogs and kitty's 😏 Due to health issues unfortunately I wasn't able to socialized him around other pups as much as I wanted too. Where do I go from this point? I've tried just about everything 😔 Again thanks Tom for all you do! I wish you'd come to the east coast soon 😊

    More, more, more, more, more! I have a dog who really is struggling to be out in public and deal with sounds and noises and other dogs. I love watching this to see how you handle it!

    Thankyou so much for these types of videos! I am pretty good with dog training but my weakness is reading PROPER dog body language between 2 dogs. I grew up with dog agressive dogs so I can spot a potential fight a mile away, but when it comes to really playing I have no clue where to draw the line because I'm so used to looking for a fight. My last dog was dog friendly but I still always felt tense about it. I just got a retriever puppy about a month or so younger than Burleigh, so following along your videos has been so helpful. Luckily i have a small older foster dog that i can observe their interactions and see where she draws the line because otherwise I crack down on good playful fighting and I dont want to discourage good behavior just because MY association with it is escalation to a dog fight. This knowledge is powerful, I feel a bit more confident to take my pup out on a walk to expose to other dogs now because before my biggest worry was: "but what if they want to play?! I won't know what to do?!" 😂 its silly, I know
