the reason alot of the story seems lacking isn't because the story is badly done or barely there, no actually if you go to the library and go under cutscene replays and briefings, they hide alot of the loredump stuff regarding both the game's plot, and the anime plots, in there, I guess to not overload people with cutscenes that want to jump to the action. in other words in this game the library is a clutch, since you can replay any story related cutscenes at any time and even try different dialogue choices. also the final boss is the most satisfying of any gundam game in my opinion. this game's story and final boss and ending is a love letter to gundam fans, especially universal century ones. just make sure to check the library often for loredumps. this game loves g gundam as well you will be happy to know g gundam fans.
The problem for me is that there's no actual pause, not even in singleplayer. You stop but every still goes on in the background. Unless there is an actual pause in the game that's my problem
The lack of pause in solo is quite frustrating, especially when there is a timer and some missions take 20 minutes out of 30 to complete if you are efficient. Dark Souls not having a pause button is fine because things don't respawn and there's no ticking clock. They should have implemented it in solo. I have a feeling though that there was a bug that they could not fix, so they just had to remove the pause feature.
As for the lack of English dub, I mainly think they decided to do this simply because it saves money from having to hire VAs. (Especially since some of them no longer would have reprised the roles; namely Domon Kasshu and Heero Yuy. And I even think Brad Swaile didn't want to do voice work again.)
Yea, I believe Domon had like 2 voice actors in jp. And maybe 3 for eng, including the games, but I swear to god I loved them all, but the 2nd actor for eng and 1st for jp are really nostalgic for me
@@EdmondDantes-ht2xb Domon's always been played by Tomokazu Seki in Japanese. It's noticeably deeper now it's because his VA's voice has changed as he's gotten older, and because he smokes
But…they DO explain what went wrong in the mission. They will tell you Gundam from other eras are breaking in, and the main Gundams are absent (because they break in somewhere else) Because it’s not time travel, it’s a giant computer simulation where the data is messed up. It’s all explained in cutscenes, not in combat yells.
"I don't know if this is a feature you can turn off" typical person that complains about something without first investigating the game settings to see if what they want can be done. It really irks me when reviewers do this.
@@thatguybis1997 The artdlink actually have develop Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, if they have technical expertise to remake on new modern graphical engine, it actually kinda good pvp or gundam vs alternative on PC
The lingering lock-on is there so that you can maintain a combo even after an enemy dies- or else it'd more or less make you drop combos all the time. It takes a bit to get used to, but if you really need to swap to another target, you move the right stick to swap targets, then you can just do a melee to dash to them. It takes a little getting used to but as I've already racked up 40+ hours on this game, its not taken too long to get the hang of things. Also about bosses not flinching, I think its important to note that only beam damage does much against boss balance gauges. Its why its really useful to bring a sharpshooter with you if you're an infighter, or play an infighter that does beam damage if you only bring two allies that do physical.
With my experience of Gundam games and series, I do get a strong toned down Dynasty Warrior Gundam vibes from this game with a bit of Gundam Breaker 2 for the boss fights. Could see a problem with lack of certain MS, especially in a game that covers many varying universes. Although still playing GBO2 and goes back and forth out of Breaker 3, this could be a nice change of pace later on to play. As for depressing Gundam series, yes IBO is quite sad but that is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait till you see the really hard hitting stuff from UC or any other Gundam Universe where several named characters die.
isnt that the norm for gundam? aside from the 90's stuff, most series can be really depressing and unafraid of killing popular characters. from the uc, to seed, 00, ibo or even age. i still defend war in the pocket as the best gundam story. and how brutal it can be is no small part of why.
@@shinmasterryu not really, seed can get pretty brutal and depressing at times, age, while not executed well, has better drama than most uc shows. as for UC, as much as i like the setting, there's only so many retreading lalah clones i can take.
In my eyes this game is the SD gundam game I've always wanted. I'm not to big on the traditional grid based tactical games and always wanted to see the SD look of the gundam translated in an action game setting. Based on what I've seen it succeeds in that front. Also the game reminds me a lot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which is one of my favorite games on the switch due to the amount of characters the game has, fun combat, surprisingly detail to the animations, etc, which are all aspects I see in SD gundam battle alliance. Basically it hits a niche and I'm all for it.
@@thatguybis1997 I appreciate that. Especially with a game like this that will appeal to certain crowds. Especially with it being $60 which seems steep.
Just happy to have an import that I don't have to translate, and happy they are releasing more game in the English market. I hope they don't hold back on other games because of the bad criticism, like they did in the past.
@@thatguybis1997 At this point, I'm just happy that we have an officially-translated action-RPG SD Gundam game of this scale at all. Before this, we only have SDG Cross Rays which was turn-based strategy. Considering that this game has, what, 100+ characters? I understand Bamco saying "nope" to English Dubbing for this experimental game. Maybe next time when the English consumers have become more established. They're still testing the waters & considering all the feedback. It's already great that we got all the original Japanese VAs in the game btw.
@@thatguybis1997 here's the thing. Gundam games used to have English dubbing but after the first 3 DWG games back on the PS3 they stopped and every Gundam for the most part has ONLY the Japanese dubbing. It's likely because getting the original cast back for hundreds of characters costs to much. Yes Gundam makes money in Japan but its track record outside of Japan varies wildly. For every good Gundam game there's four bad ones. The animes can be very polarizing with UC and AU fans constantly debating about what's good and bad. Some of the animes legitimately don't do well. It's 30+ years of a legacy that has legitimately had hard times more often then you think.
@@thatguybis1997 the thing is, this is more of something that happens because those games arent really supposed to release world wide. its kinda weird but the choice wasnt to have or not english voice acting, but to release with or without english text. namco is that much of a penny pincher, that they had multiple games that could very well have english text that just didnt because they didnt wanna pay the 10 bucks to translate them(as in the games had so little text that it would cost almost nothing to translate).
About the lock on, I think there's something on the setting but if anything, what I do about the lingering lock on is switch to the next enemy or press R to get off the lock on but yeah, the controllers are absolute pain got me. Everything feels a bit awkward especially dashing and looking around at the same time
My biggest issue is the lack of certain mobile suits, which I assume are being saved for future dlc or just didn't do enough to warrant putting into the game But honestly who cares, I just wanna be able to use more "grunt" mobile suits
Yeah kinda dumb they dont just allow players to play thr grunt units even when they already have the models in the game. I guess better just go back to the psp game, the one with uc timeline. That one has tons of grunts and gundam suits a like that u can use. Cant remember the name thou, its been too long since i played it, it doesnt look rhe best, but its still quite fun and not sd for those who dont like the aesthetics
@@bruticus1496 yeah worst part is, you guys know that transforming Gundam with the railguns from Iron blooded orphans, yeah he's not in the base roster
I won’t parrot what everyone is saying about auto lock on. I think you get that point already lol. I do want to second the opinion about the dialogue. I don’t mind reading subtitles. But a massive amount of the story dialogue takes place during combat. Making you choose to focus on the fight or on the conversation. This is an instance where dubbing is needed. I also want to state that the game wants you to use different suits to fit the needs of different missions. Try using a different type other than infighter to change your gameplay experience and play style.
Imo I enjoy the game for what it is. The game does have its faults like you said but I can look past that and still have an enjoyable time with it. Kinda sucks though that we don’t get a lot of good gundam games here in the west. Still waiting for break to come.
Agreed. He talks about a lack of a dub being lazy or other things that seem lazy but this isn’t like a massive release or anything lol. I think for where gundam is in 2022 it’s fine. It’s an enjoyable arcadey game. It’s fine to be unsatisfied but overall I think this is more or less exactly what I expected from the announcement and the demo and I’m happy with it. Idk. When I see SD gundam I lower my expectations a bit anyway but yeah. Games fine. Solid 7 ish. Nothing amazing. Gets the job done.
@@Yung.Ert. it kinda sucks because while we don’t get many gundam games here, the amount we do get I some times feels makes or breaks in sales wise if they want to produce more for the west. Seeing as there is a fan base here I do hope we get more in the future.
I hope that Gundam games have more accessibility since I don’t have a PS4, so I can’t play most games and hope that GBO2 doesn’t get canceled mostly since I would want to take a break from Evolution when it releases
Statistically proven, the great majority of the fanbase prefer the original JP dub over the lack luckster ENG dub. It wasn't neglected, If ENG dub was a priority, we wouldn't be getting these Gundam games and it would be era 2000 all over again.
yeah, the real choice was to make them have english text or not. its already a miracle bandai is putting the translation, asking for a dub is just too much for them to offer.
Yeah I agree with your assessment, I bought the game purely to play as some of my favorite gundams and also because the combat system is legitimately fun and it's funny you mention Xenoverse because during my demo playthrough I felt like I was playing Dragonball Raging blast at times lol. It''s a fun game but I also think it's not quite worth 60.00 usd, I luckily had some microsoft credit saved up so i only paid about 47 for it but I just recommend the demo to people and if they enjoy it enough then they'll probably buy it.
Settings > Auto Lock on OFF , Targeting > closest to me hope this helps i agree about a dub VO or an option so the talking isnt visable on screen/doesnt happen or if it didnt happen on replays , my main issues so far have been very minor mainly complaints about lack of customization , and the odd story choice (other games let you play through a series start to finish or change between them as they're different categories) also blue prints drop from bosses 100% of time just depends on the loot table , each mission says if it drops blueprints
My biggest complaints are when you lock on an enemy, your shots tend to not be accurate while enemy bosses tend to have 100% accuracy on you. And when you break some bosses, after some get into the animation to get up, they just boost off somewhere else to make all your shots on them miss when they should've still been flinched.
Yeah like the game design is forcing you to make perfect guard/sidestep an essential skill despite being just frame inputs that need relatively high skill. And yeah the only way to keep them in break is to aerial combo them, which if you're the run-and-gun type of player, will definitely break your experience.
Look, the Japanese-only problem is pretty difficult to justify, though there are many games out there without an English dub. The language problem mostly stems from the dialogue dumps halfway through the action like you stated. Price tag is hard to defend as well. It should have been a $40 game because of its shorter runtime for normal mode and the lack of localization beyond subtitles. However, your understanding of the plot shows how little you actually went through the story. There is much more to the story than "Xenoverse, but Gundam," and it is quite interesting. Your understanding of the "grindfest" is only partially accurate. Though it is best to stick with a mobile suit for the first few directories, once you get to directory 4 (halfway), you start getting enough capital to fully level mobile suits up to Level 15 without breaking a sweat. Also, multiple mobile suits have multiple ways to obtain blueprints. Your example of the GM Sniper II shows that you didn't realize that you can get the 2nd blueprint on a later mission as a guaranteed reward. For the more intricate/iconic mobile suits, yes, you have to play the mission multiple times; however, by that point in time you will be playing the same mission anyway to get capital for a mobile suit that you are leveling that you want to use as your main. I've played 60 hours of this game, and hard mode (essentially ng+) is the only time when you need to *actually* grind.
The power scaling for later mobile suits kind of demands you grind even more to unlock and upgrade them. They’re so much better for base stats than the early MS that it isn’t funny… like going from 2-5% damage reduction to 15-20% damage reduction before mods.
It's most definitely different. Gundam vs had evolved into a very technicalfighting game. This on the other hand looks like a very generic and grindy action game with rpg elements.
it plays nothing like a vs game. gundam vs is an arena fighter, 2v2. if anything, this game is far closer to the dynasty games, only smaller in scope(and blander). i wouldnt even put it close to the breaker series(maybe new breaker, which, to be fair, this game has a similar feel).
I remember watching the show back when it first dropped in America. Then I got into the SD Gundam toys. I saw this on game pass recently and I love it.
Super Robot Wars definitely taught me how to see the action and read subtitles at the same time so I have no probs with the dubs here lol But I will agree on the lack of non-linear encounters, I was hoping break ins would do a lot more than just an MS popping in and out and usually without much context
Ah shit manz got me subbedd now, Im too lazy to write a full review my self but I agree with another guy who said traditional gundam grid fire emblem game which i have never played yet sadly. But gundam from my childhood was always gundam versus in the arcades such like that is a gundam game. From that and the older GBV and only playing that coming into SD gundam is amazing! I got sick of it but somereason I never found out that gundam hathaway was in it and my god i love that movie. I do plan on getting the DLC sooner or later to freshen up the game because I Still have a lot to do. the only issue is that I felt burnt out for a few months, Since their is a DLC pack that should help freshen it up. In verdict all i would have to say is this game is light, amazing and fun but the only problem is repetetive then again what game isnt a grindy rpg hack and slash like warriors games these days?
I definitely wish they did some more interesting story missions. The concept is cool, but just needs that little extra push to be incredible. I also hope they rebalance the difficulty around single player in the future. The lack of enemy hitstun and Mobile Armors lacking a visible stun gauge is infuriating and makes playing any of the Infighter style suits a huge pain. Master Gundam for example, has 2 grab sub weapons, but they cant be used on a huge chunk of bosses. It seems built purely around the multiplayer which makes some missions an absolute drag. The grind can also be unbearable. Some sort of Gauntlet or Survival mode where you just cut through waves of enemies would be a great way to earn exp resources.
Most Gundam fans don´t want the dub, it´s never good enough against the original audio. I´ve been reading it fine while battling and english isn´t even my native language.
@@KillerBee300yea so annoying. i wish it had english too instead just so then i focus more the action instead having to read and focus on the act at the same time.
Great review! While I've been playing the game since launch, it's great to see a casual fan's prospective on the game. (Even if I die a little bit inside whenever you call a none Gundam Mobile Suit a Gundam...)
@@fmiller1911 i get what you are saying, but you gotta understand, these games, its a miracle we even got the english text. no joke, bandai only release the games with english text because its cheaper. if they have to have dubs, you can bet, we wont get any gundam game in the west... AGAIN.
@@marcosdheleno I get it. I’m not trying to be ungrateful or even complain. I realized shortly after I posted that that Hyrule Warriors does the same thing in combat, even though the whole game for me is in English. I’d love to learn Japanese, but wow. I don’t know that my brain could retain it. 😂 I have always wondered why there weren’t more Gundam games though.
I'm enjoying it so far. I"m planning on reviewing after I give it a bit more time. I'm getting Dynasty Warrior Gundam feels from it. My fav Gundam games though are breaker and SD Generation titles.
Ngl i was hoping u tlk more the game content value lol but ngl u really hit some key points as a gundam fan and collector i think SD GUNDAM should have more game mode other then missions like pvp battle
Some of what you said I highly agree with, like the "no English voiceover" and the camera being crap, but for the majority of the negative points you gave, they can be easily fixed in one of two ways: first, go through the options menu, it takes five minutes to check it all out if you're a slow reader; the auto target is changeable in the options menu. And, second, if you played the game past the first couple of missions, you'd know that there is still a lot of the game that opens up in later "Directories," such as Chaos Missions, which would be that "unique twist" you said the game didn't have for the whole branching missions thing. Also, some missions DO have branching paths. Again, if you played past the first couple missions before writing a review of the ENTIRE game, you'd have come across them. What I'm trying to say is that I wish you'd played more of the game and explored the options menu at least once (because you didn't do it even once; the auto lock-on is the very first page of the menu, lol) before you write reviews that say things aren't what they actually are, but only found later in the story. To your defense, though, they explain the multiple paths thing in the middle of a battle... In Japanese... So I can see how you might have missed it, even if it's an early mission you might have played. Also, there's definitely something about foreign languages babbling nonsense into your ear for entire missions that really annoys me. Lol. But you're positive points-and even a few negatives like I said-i highly agree with, so I review this review a 6/10. Sorry if I sounded mean; I didn't mean to make it seem like I hated your video because I don't. I just think you need a little more effort for future game reviews.
I hear ya, it’s hard to cover everything when there’s only so much time to play the game, especially when I don’t get these games for free and don’t have the cash to be spending $60 on all these new releases. However, even with all these things you mentioned, I don’t think my feelings on the game would’ve changed even if I had played more. Also, auto lock on being enabled by default is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard to be honest lol This game lacks polish, and I think my review gets across exactly what it needs to, even if it doesn’t cover every single base. Chaos missions do sound promising though.
@@thatguybis1997 yes, I thought it was something like that. But even if you only got it for the review (if you did), I still suggest playing it at least until Directive 5 or 6. 5 because that's when Chaos Breaks open up, and 6 will let you get some of the more powerful/popular Gundams between 5-6. Most of the stuff before that isn't so good, unless you got knight Gundam in the beginning of the game from preordering. What I'm trying to say is that you should still give the game a second chance until at least those points in the story, even if it's not for a review. The game gets a lot more fun as you progress. :)
My guy... With all due respect, we need to talk... Because I have SOOOOO much to say regarding your video here. Before I even say anything, I just wanna make it very clear that I wish you ZERO disrespect whatsoever for your takes here, I'm merely just pointing out some things you might be misunderstanding or just might not be in the know about. So here we go: > *_"I say that I'm a fan of the series lightly mainly because the only thing I've really seen that's GUNDAM, outside of the mechs, is the anime 'Iron Blooded Orphans'."_* Okay, so this tells me a few things. Firstly, it tells me that you're still relatively new to the Gundam Franchise. Which is totally fine n dandy! But it also presents a problem that I'll be getting into later with your review. We'll come back to this point in a bit. > *_"I always thought Gundam in Video Game Form would be an unforgettable experience, but I have to say: Even with such a promising formula to work with? Most Gundam Games I've seen seem to be lackluster to say the least."_* HOOOOO, BUDDY... Sounds to me like you've been looking in all the wrong places, my dude. Because I can tell you of SOOOOOO many Gundam Games that are nothing short of PHENOMENAL. Believe me, I know what every single good one AND bad one is to date. If you really wanna get pointed towards some awesome Gundam Games? I am more than welcome to show you. Just lemme know! > *_"I feel like there was a bit of a missed opportunity here. They could have made the missions a bit more dynamic in that if you complete a certain objective within a break mission, then that opens a branching path into another parallel timeline within that specific universe."_* See, I partially agree with you to a certain extent here, but I fully understand WHY they didn't do that. Mainly because Time Traveling and Correcting History is something that must be CAREFULLY DONE with fiction in order to not end up with insane amounts of plot holes and continuity errors. It's a VERY HARD THING to get right with writing that type of story. I guess considering the game only has 80-ish mobile suits (as of launch), they decided to play it safer by not going TOO CRAZY with it for the sake of what kind of story is at hand here. But hey, that's just my theory. > *_"I definitely think Xenoverse did the idea way better."_* As I said above, this kinda thing is VERY EASY to fall into plot holes if not done right. Which is unfortunately what happened to Dragon Ball Xenoverse, because those 2 games are FULL of plot holes due to the writing of the story not exactly being the best with time traveling. But then again, Dragon Ball's timelines and alternate universes are an entirely different can of worms to talk about. Moving on... > *_"Not to mention, there's no english dub here. Can you say 'Lazy'?"_* Okay, so listen carefully. You're relatively new here, and you yourself admitted that you're not too familiar with the majority of GOOD Gundam Games out there. So lemme inform you on something. Gundam Games now a days, *NEVER* have english dubs in them. Like, EVER. The last Gundam Game that actually had English Dubbing that was released in the West, was Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. And that game's english dub was SO BAD IT'S MEME-WORTHY. It was around after that where Bandai just said "Screw It" and just decided to go with subtitles instead. And honestly? I DO NOT BLAME THEM. Considering the fact that English Dubs in recent memory have DRASTICALLY gone down in quality since the good old days, due to companies like Funimation (Now Crunchyroll) getting caught changing character dialogue to make them say stuff they never did just to push personal agendas. With that in mind? I legitimately DO NOT BLAME Bamco for not bothering to dub their Gundam Games anymore with how corrupt the dubbing industry has gotten over the recent years. Besides, the voices in Japanese sound totally fine as it is. English Dubs with Gundam in general have varied in quality over the years. Adding english dubs would significantly cost way more money to do, and in a game like SD Gundam Battle Alliance, it's really not gonna matter too much if there's a dub or not. > *_" Not that I don't like playing my games in Japanese, but with this game especially, it's a problem. Because they'll be talking during the mission about things going on during the battle, but because I'm so focused on the game, I don't got time to be reading what they're freakin' saying! So all in all, I'd rather not have them constantly buzzing in my ear during gameplay!"_* I think you might be overreacting just a bit here. You're literally the FIRST PERSON I've ever encountered that actually got annoyed at this. There's literally TONS of games out there that do this kinda thing. Hell, Dragon Ball Xenoverse is one of them, should you decide to switch it to Japanese Voices; Which A LOT of people prefer, believe it or not. Overall, this isn't really that big of a deal. You get used to it after a little while. > *_"The story within the missions also don't really make that much sense either. But I am more or less a newcomer when it comes to the series. Still, the game doesn't do a great job of explaining WHY we're having this battle, what's SUPPOSED to happen in this mission, and what's CHANGED from the original timeline. So you kinda just go around and wack things, because really, the game doesn't care enough to explain, and therefore, YOU don't care enough to learn._* See, this is why I said above with the fact that you're brand new to Gundam and only saw Iron-Blooded Orphans can be problematic with Gundam Games like this. Battle Alliance is a game that kinda EXPECTS YOU to have prior knowledge on literally EVERY SINGLE GUNDAM ENTRY present in this game AND be somewhat up to date with Gundam Lore at the same time. Otherwise, there will be quite a few moments where you're gonna be LOST as to what's going on. You could definitely argue that's bad for casual players of the game, but the truth is that this game isn't really targeted towards the general audience. It's targeted SPECIFICALLY at Gundam Fans and ONLY Gundam Fans. Non Gundam Fans or Gundam Fans that are brand new to the series are gonna have a FAR harder time enjoying this game. It wouldn't be the first time Gundam Games did this, and it absolutely won't be the last. But it is what it is, sadly. If you actually got neck-deep into the Gundam Franchise as a whole, and then came back to this game again, there is a VERY good chance you would be enjoying this game A LOT MORE. > *_"And while I wasn't a fan of the chibi Gundam art style at first, I gotta say, It really grew on me."_* GOOD ON YOU for that! That's something that turns SO MANY PEOPLE away from SD Gundam games such as this one; Regardless of if they're GREAT GAMES. It absolutely infuriates me when people are that shallow and simply judge a book by its cover without even giving it a fair chance. Mad respect, my dude. Overall, though. I feel like once you get more into Gundam, you would definitely start liking Gundam Gaming more. Especially once you get shown what the best Gundam Games to play actually are. Seriously, if you want me to give you the grand tour with Gundam Gaming, I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to do so. All you have to do is say the word. Always good to hear hot takes in the Gundam fandom! God Bless!
Quite a few entries of gundam have never been dubbed and to my knowledge this is the first sd gundam game that actually got a western release. Also the sd games have never been dubbed.
These are all valid criticisms. I'm a huge Gundam nerd but it's a shame the fanbase doesn't want to admit to these things based on the like to dislike ratio and would rather nitpick semantics like you calling regular mobile suits Gundams. I wish we would get a really good Gundam game one day on par with the likes of Custom Robo, Zone of the Enders or Titanfall. This one is just kinda okay. Gundam Breaker is a series for example with a lot of potential squandered by the utterly braindead gameplay.
Some fans like me only need Gundam Strike Freedom, soundtracks of T.M. Revolution like Vestige, or Meteor, and we can beat the hole game. PS. With 00 Gundam soundtrack we will even get max scores in every mission.
I was testing the multiplayer and noticed that I couldn't play missions that I hadn't done alone, is it not possible to advance the story with friends?
Sorry for being a year late. Yes, you CAN do missions you havent done in single player yet. Key word being yet. Say you want to play an end game mission with a friend (say chapter 6), if you do not have access to that mission because you are on chapter 4, you must finish chapters 4 and 5 for that mission to unlock.
I'm a huge gundam fan. But I'm a wait till this game is on sale. Lack of English dub is a problem for me. GB3 is probably the best gundam game. That and federation vs zeon was dope.
My all time favorite gundam game was "Dynasty warriors gundam reborn", this game sort has a feel to it but im still a little skeptical about buying it. Is it worth playing?
Year late but honestly? I really enjoy the game myself. If you are on xbox or pc and have gamepass ultimate, the game is currently on Gamepass. So maybe try it for free if you havent yet!
Another reason: no appearance customization :(, small minus point. But customizing a mobile suit, matching it to your favorite color, adding a sticker, it should be fun. Just like in sdgo
don't mfs understand why this isn't the case yet? you can't charge less just because "it should be", it's still a full title that had a lot of development time and people working on it.
*BRUH* how do you expect people to make good games if the devs barely get paid from selling the games? First you want a good Gundam game to play then when you get one you expect shit to always be cheep or free. Then call it a bad game if you can't buy it. Y'all complain too damn much.
Have you played SD gundam generation games? Or Gundam Vs Gundam extreme vs force? Well at least sdgg came out before dragon ball XenoVerse and gvsgevsf came out the same year of dbxv and it's basically the same story formula whenever bandai is trying to put multiple gundam series into one. Did not steal from dragon ball xenoverse - it's just basically bandai's generic story. As always and ever since, you don't play these games for the story. And personally imo, instead of comparing it to dragonball XenoVerse you should be using SDGO+Gundam Breaker which I think the closest gameplay minus customization. These games came out before dragonball Xenoverse. You're probably not a gundam fan. Lel
As far as Gundam games go if you want an experience of games that cover entire series stories I would suggest the two games SD Gundam G Generation/ Crossrays. They pretty much tell the meat of the respective series just Generation is all the "Univeral Century" that focuses of the story from the first Gundam on. "Crossrays" is about all of Wing, Seed, 00 and Iron Blooded Orphans. They even have story modes about manga only spinoff so for Ironblooded Orphans they have a story campaign of the side manga since you've said you already watched the main series.
Rather buy a Gunpla. I was kinda exited when it popped up in Steam. I am big Gudam fan and nerd, Universal Century especially. And thigs sounded even better when I heard some of my pesronal favorites like Zega Gundam and EZ-8 will be part of it. Thanks Bamco...
U should try the psp game, i cant remember the name but the story spans from the original till char counter attack. While the game doesnt look the best and can be quite hectic, it is still a lot of fun for having a lot of mulitple suita from grunt to gundam types
@@darrylyeoh6067 thanks for the tip. Will dig around and see what choices there are. A bit sad we must rely on a dead console for a decent Gundam game :D Here's hope they at least would port the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games, but I doubt it.
For me the problem is difficulty curve when you hit Level 80 missions. You can basically get through the entire game solo no problem... until you get to the endgame EX missions which are the only way to level past level 80 and they're all but impossible with AI partners, you basically need multiplayer. It wouldn't be so bad if you could consistently time counters, but with the camera hiding the boss you're locked onto half the time, the inconsistency of attack hit boxes, and the slow responsiveness of the block button it just feels unfair.
Gundam Breaker 3 and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam are both amazing and well-made. A lot of the fun games for Gundam are kept locked in Japan is the main problem
I highly recommend you give the prologue of gundam the with from mercury a try, it was made available in english relatively recently and is pretty good
0:57 you should check out gundam extreme vs, not to be confused with gundam versus. its basically the best arena fighter there is, after that gundam breaker 3 is also a very good gundam game, for strategy, if you can read japanese there's the older sd g gen games, if you dont care about graphics, the ds(the first one, NOT cross drive), is amazing, and its probably the best take on a multi gundam shared universe, with events taking advantage of running similar battles involving diferent groups(for example, in one fight, you have to face the titans from zeta AND the federation from seed). another great choice with strategy are the giren's ambition, a gundam take on the nobunaga's ambition games, and just like g gen ds, it is not afraid of going places, with strategies going beyond simply field battle, but also unit alocation on the war itself(a good example is sending ramba the doms he was promissed, or picking the gyan as zeon's main unit instead of the gelgoog). there are many amazing gundam games, its just that the last batch has been lack luster. cross rays and alliance are probably still good enough, but nowhere near as good as the others. evolution seems to be the only one that actually had some money behind it, unfortunately.
Most of time games aren't given an English dub because of the size of the cast. There's a lot of characters and getting everyone in to voice their lines would take a lot of time and delay the worldwide release. And people would complain if they just used whoever was available to do the voices instead of their official dub actor. Then you got to pay all those people and it becomes pretty costly. Sub is faster and cheaper.
Seriously, they could just get an idea from SDGO, that game in the past was already good and almost similar to this. Is the game even has "system" skill here? like Exia when low health it triggers Trans-Am and increase it's movement speed or like strike with phase shift skill that reduce vulcan type weapon damage.
i mean.... yea the breaks sometimes don't make sense because there is a lot of easter eggs, comparisons between different series, and interactions that you would honestly only understand if you watched "ALL" of the anime or a huge gundam fan. and yes you should turn off auto lock on for a better experience.
@@ShakeYaDirdiez lol. Give this game 6 months. No one will play it anymore. After u finish the story. People play co op to help finish the mission becos it's difficult. But after u finish it. U wont play it anymore.

like most Gundam games after extreme vs. it borrowed many elements to make the combat system more fun, i'm a few hours in and as someone who has hundreds of hours in ex vs. and breaker it's a pretty nice fix it is not as deep as Exvs. Exvs. is an arena brawler with the depth of a fighting game but it's great that it gives you tools to make your create your own depth within the game if you're looking for that same crazyness. As for the story. SD Gundam games have always been about mashing the multiverses of the Gundam series together you could say that this game stole from Xenoverse but SD Gundam has been doing this since the beginning when the games were turn based stretagy games. Way before Xenoverse came along.
Another complaint from me is lack of flymode transformation... Example, Zeta in SDGO can transform to fly mode but in SDBA hell no.... The Phoenix gundam which player got at start also have flymode and yet they don't make it transformable
The only problem with this game i have personally is all the screen clutter. I don't care to see a picture of who's talking, a pop up of what they're saying, the enemy ui, and all the flashing and explosion impacts all at the same time, you can't hardly SEE what you're doing half the time, and the fact that the characters are so deformed and tiny you can barely see how they look when doing moves because the beam slash arch is bigger tham the character, you just can't really enjoy the game. If they were normal sized characters and you could turn off even just half of the on screen pop ups, this game would be a masterpiece
My main issue with this game is the fact multiPlayer is all luck to get a team together without having someone missing a mission or just progress and if you kick them they just join right back... really hating this hope it's fixed in a future patch.. maybe make it linked to host story progress only or make kick option timed?
2 gundam games i can recommend is Gundam Breaker 3, and the Dynasty Warriors gundam games (specifically Dynasty warriors gundam Reborn). Both are very hack n slash, fast paced combat and a good time, though Reborn is somewhat difficult to play on console since it was released in the PS3/XB360 era
The things listed as problems here I don't really have much issues with. The VO being in japanese has never been a problem for me and most of the time if I see a japanese option I switch to it ( so I think this is a personal problem and not a issue with the game). The lack of explanation about whats suppose to happen in the timeline is actually explained and the explanations get deeper the further you get in the story. But since I don't see anything in the review about so of the later added content. I'm gonna assume you didn't play very far
@@KillerBee300 And what I said is its a personal preference. Which you basically repeated with your comment. but on a educational note as to why english voice acting isn't common in niche titles its based on budget it cost them more to higher VO than it does to localize. Play any of the other gundam games and I doubt many will have english VO especially SD games
@@Fiveyin when you don't include English dubs you cut your potential American market in half... so it creates a loop of not being able to leave the niche market because you can't effectively expand your audience to the more casual player
I was really excited for this game but I think I’ll probably wait till it goes on sale. Besides I got to finish SRW 30 first. Very excited for gundam evolution too.
I've only played a little bit of the game so far and while I'm not impressed with it, I'm also not unimpressed. I'm a huge 20+ year-long Universal Century Gundam fan, with a soft spot for Gundam Wing, since it got me hooked on the genre way back in early 2000-something. You definitely need to be a fan of the series to appreciate the story, though, I know I'm going to have issues with it once I hit Seed, 00, etc stuff. The auto lock on can be disabled in settings, but I don't know how much it'll improve the gameplay. If anything at all. But otherwise, the camera is definitely annoying. I had the exact same frustration when fighting Epon in that second stage. I couldn't beat the level on Normal because of it (and maybe because my MS was underpowered?). The stupid buildings were just in the way. At one point, I thought it was a part of the level design. Maybe I was supposed to destroy the buildings... but it proved too hard to do and I ended up just getting destroyed. Default controls aren't great either. The boost and dodge buttons require you to remove your right thumb from the camera stick, so boosting around while moving the camera is nearly impossible without two right thumbs. I'm playing on the Switch, so I changed the layout as follows: ZL= Boost, L = Sub Weapon 1, ZR= shoot, R=Sub Weapon 2, Y= Melee, X= Stronger Melee, A= Guard, B= Jump. It works for me so far, but Guarding is a bit tricky at times. I might swap the A and B actions or something, in order to move the guard button closer to the R stick. The SD chibi Gundam form factor is kinda annoying for me, but having played the recent turn-based G Generation strategy games on the Switch, it's almost normal for that particular console. In my mind, the Switch isn't powerful enough to handle regular, full-sized and well-detailed models like Gundam Battle Operations 2. BUT... there were gundam games back on the PSP that used full-sized models, but not GBO2 level of details. There was a game I imported, but I cannot remember its name right now. It was basically a more modern version of the Federation vs Zeon or Gundam vs Z Gundam games from the PS2. It had up to Gundam Unicorn on it. If the PSP could handle that, I'm sure the Switch could too... with a bit more detail. Overall, the game is just an SD Gundam game aimed at the fans and trying something new for them. Does it work? Maybe? But it isn't groundbreaking or anything. I'm still wanting a Gundam Battle Operations 2 game that's a single player, mission-based game that plays through the Universal Century, has all the various mobile suit variants like GBO2, and plays sort of like Zeonic Front (PS2) minus the frustrating pre-planning that that game had (I played that as a middle schooler or something, so I wasn't great at it). Obviously, this type of game wouldn't be for the Switch though, so I'd be playing that on my PC.
the reason alot of the story seems lacking isn't because the story is badly done or barely there, no actually if you go to the library and go under cutscene replays and briefings, they hide alot of the loredump stuff regarding both the game's plot, and the anime plots, in there, I guess to not overload people with cutscenes that want to jump to the action. in other words in this game the library is a clutch, since you can replay any story related cutscenes at any time and even try different dialogue choices. also the final boss is the most satisfying of any gundam game in my opinion. this game's story and final boss and ending is a love letter to gundam fans, especially universal century ones. just make sure to check the library often for loredumps. this game loves g gundam as well you will be happy to know g gundam fans.
If you are looking for a really good infighter, God ("Burning") Gundam and Master Gundam are the goat.
I wish there was a way to have them replay the in game dialogue somehow as I can’t read and fight
@@Old_Man_Rivers Dark Souls has an actual pause
I prefer JP seiyuu over butchered Eng Dub VA.
@@sofiaciel7599 oh, that's why. Thanks for clarifying bro
The problem is a lack of an english dub always harms sales... so while it saves money it loses you money
But…they DO explain what went wrong in the mission. They will tell you Gundam from other eras are breaking in, and the main Gundams are absent (because they break in somewhere else)
Because it’s not time travel, it’s a giant computer simulation where the data is messed up.
It’s all explained in cutscenes, not in combat yells.
The thing about the auto lock is you can actually go into the settings and turn the auto lock off
"I don't know if this is a feature you can turn off" typical person that complains about something without first investigating the game settings to see if what they want can be done. It really irks me when reviewers do this.
It's fun. Played most of the day yesterday and probably will again today.
I agree. Just the $60 price tag stings a bit imo.
@@thatguybis1997 I got the 117 dollar one 😆
@@thatguybis1997 The artdlink actually have develop Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, if they have technical expertise to remake on new modern graphical engine, it actually kinda good pvp or gundam vs alternative on PC
@@thatguybis1997 I mean it could have been worse lol.
Namco-Bandais refusal to outright give the PC the EXVS series is quite hilarious at this point.
With GBO2 coming to PC one can hope, I really want to play at least one of the vs games
You mean Mobile Suit, not every mech is a Gundam in the series. Most are specific prototypes.

@@marcosdheleno Mostly UC if anything when it comes to being the norm. AC is somewhat different imo.
@@shinmasterryu not really, seed can get pretty brutal and depressing at times, age, while not executed well, has better drama than most uc shows.
as for UC, as much as i like the setting, there's only so many retreading lalah clones i can take.
You're not a Gundam fan if you haven't made dark jokes about hamburgers after War in the Pocket
And there's no problem with that! I'm just here to provide some pros and cons and my general 2 cents from what I've experienced.
@@thatguybis1997 I appreciate that. Especially with a game like this that will appeal to certain crowds. Especially with it being $60 which seems steep.

Most anime style games don’t have an English audio option. Code Vein is the only exception I can name that I’ve played
Fair, but honestly, I'd rather them start including it and putting forth the effort if they're going to start releasing them here in the West.
Everything feels a bit awkward especially dashing and looking around at the same time
It’s just getting to used to it reslly
I switched the guard trigger with the dash button, and it feels good
Reconfig the boost button to a shoulder button. Problem solved.
My biggest issue is the lack of certain mobile suits, which I assume are being saved for future dlc or just didn't do enough to warrant putting into the game
But honestly who cares, I just wanna be able to use more "grunt" mobile suits
Yeah kinda dumb they dont just allow players to play thr grunt units even when they already have the models in the game. I guess better just go back to the psp game, the one with uc timeline. That one has tons of grunts and gundam suits a like that u can use.
Great review.
I enjoy the game alot but i appreciate hearing a review from someone who isn't a die hard Gundam fan.
Settings > Auto Lock on OFF , Targeting > closest to me hope this helps
i agree about a dub VO or an option so the talking isnt visable on screen/doesnt happen or if it didnt happen on replays ,
my main issues so far have been very minor mainly complaints about lack of customization , and the odd story choice (other games let you play through a series start to finish or change between them as they're different categories)
also blue prints drop from bosses 100% of time just depends on the loot table , each mission says if it drops blueprints
1:45
“THAT AINT NO GUNDAM, BOY.”
🤣
The power scaling for later mobile suits kind of demands you grind even more to unlock and upgrade them. They’re so much better for base stats than the early MS that it isn’t funny… like going from 2-5% damage reduction to 15-20% damage reduction before mods.
Turn X is definitely opd
Is a Gundam Vs Gundam game, if you played that before on console then is exactly this which is great game.
It's most definitely different. Gundam vs had evolved into a very technicalfighting game. This on the other hand looks like a very generic and grindy action game with rpg elements.

Super Robot Wars definitely taught me how to see the action and read subtitles at the same time so I have no probs with the dubs here lol

I need another Zone of the Enders in my life
Yo I would flip my shit if they had a new one I've been waiting for ever

Also, auto lock on being enabled by default is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard to be honest lol
This game lacks polish, and I think my review gets across exactly what it needs to, even if it doesn’t cover every single base.
Thanks I needed to hear from a Gundam fan lol
Then I assume you haven't played the Gundam Breaker games? Cuz those are pretty great (except New Gundam Breaker...).
The limited roster is an issue. When looking at most prior SD games their roster is huge. This game comparatively is laughable
Are DLC neeeded to advance on this game?
Lost me at the English dub part.
This game is the epitome of "Story doesn't matter just mash" and it works well in that sense
So here we go:
> *_"I say that I'm a fan of the series lightly mainly because the only thing I've really seen that's GUNDAM, outside of the mechs, is the anime 'Iron Blooded Orphans'."_*
Okay, so this tells me a few things.
Most Gundam Games I've seen seem to be lackluster to say the least."_*
HOOOOO, BUDDY...
They could have made the missions a bit more dynamic in that if you complete a certain objective within a break mission, then that opens a branching path into another parallel timeline within that specific universe."_*
See, I partially agree with you to a certain extent here, but I fully understand WHY they didn't do that.
> *_"I definitely think Xenoverse did the idea way better."_*
As I said above, this kinda thing is VERY EASY to fall into plot holes if not done right.
Can you say 'Lazy'?"_*
Okay, so listen carefully.
So all in all, I'd rather not have them constantly buzzing in my ear during gameplay!"_*
I think you might be overreacting just a bit here.
So you kinda just go around and wack things, because really, the game doesn't care enough to explain, and therefore, YOU don't care enough to learn._*
See, this is why I said above with the fact that you're brand new to Gundam and only saw Iron-Blooded Orphans can be problematic with Gundam Games like this.
> *_"And while I wasn't a fan of the chibi Gundam art style at first, I gotta say, It really grew on me."_*
GOOD ON YOU for that!
God Bless!
Honestly I just think this guy didn't know what he was taking about.
@@zeroshinkai957
I wouldn't go that far. I just think he was fundamentally misunderstanding a lot of things, is all.
It's unfair the guy on the video didn't see your comment
Quite a few entries of gundam have never been dubbed and to my knowledge this is the first sd gundam game that actually got a western release. Also the sd games have never been dubbed.
They’d better start doing it then.
Are you using PS4 Just play your tracks off a USB drive.
Just like in sdgo
it's worth it
if the price was 20-30, not 60-70
don't mfs understand why this isn't the case yet? you can't charge less just because "it should be", it's still a full title that had a lot of development time and people working on it.
Lel
Never said I was?
@@thatguybis1997 You didn't have to. I figured it out. 😆 Anyway, just my opinion. Appreciate your quick review.
My biggest problem with the game is that your partners have ai equal to a toaster's.
A bit sad we must rely on a dead console for a decent Gundam game :D
Here's hope they at least would port the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games, but I doubt it.
Auto lock can be turned off also press the start button on boss kills to skip through the slow mo moment
A lot of the fun games for Gundam are kept locked in Japan is the main problem
i was a SDGO player before. if only this has PVP. 4v4
That’s where you turn your Metallica music on full blast and put them on silent
One of my problems with the Switch port is that the game freezes a lot when the Switch is not connected to the internet
i mean.... yea the breaks sometimes don't make sense because there is a lot of easter eggs, comparisons between different series, and interactions that you would honestly only understand if you watched "ALL" of the anime or a huge gundam fan. and yes you should turn off auto lock on for a better experience.
Just give it PVP and it will b really good.
Just like SDGO in the past.
SDGO is the best gundam game ever
Why do u ppl think every game needs pvp
@@ShakeYaDirdiez lol. Give this game 6 months. No one will play it anymore. After u finish the story. People play co op to help finish the mission becos it's difficult. But after u finish it. U wont play it anymore.

@@gman5264 lol. Then dont play pvp. Wtf. U probably bad at the game and then blame it on pvp lol.

U r probably the type that is bad at sports, and then blame the sports for being bad. Or blame women for liking sporty/athletic guy 🤣🤣🤣
30 hrs in, loving it...able to partner with 2 other gundam ploits is really cool
Also isn’t this game like $84 with deluxe buy? I want it but it gotta drop in price
The best gundam game in history is gundam breaker 3 but you can only get the English version imported not from online stores
Gundam on dreamcast console is awesome af
what about gundam extreme vs? its one of the best gundam games, and it is also the best arena fighter hands down.
like most Gundam games after extreme vs. it borrowed many elements to make the combat system more fun, i'm a few hours in and as someone who has hundreds of hours in ex vs. and breaker it's a pretty nice fix it is not as deep as Exvs. Exvs. is an arena brawler with the depth of a fighting game but it's great that it gives you tools to make your create your own depth within the game if you're looking for that same crazyness.
If they were normal sized characters and you could turn off even just half of the on screen pop ups, this game would be a masterpiece
the comparison to Xenoverse had me sold lmfao
Regarding your comment about Gundam games being lackluster, I highly suggest you try Gundam Breaker 3
1:43 Psst... they're generally called "Mobile Suits". "Gundam" suits usually have the V-Fin.
Games really fun, its no gbo2 or armored core, but for the sd version, its pretty engaging
Both are very hack n slash, fast paced combat and a good time, though Reborn is somewhat difficult to play on console since it was released in the PS3/XB360 era
vita too. I got mine on vita 😊
I played as far as I felt comfortable writing a review on my thoughts for the game. But I definitely didn't finish the game from start to finish, no.
Just because you like reading English sub while fighting doesn't mean everyone else does, they should atleast have a English dubbed in the options.
Game's now on Gamepass, which is neat.
I feel that if they did the branch off, most people who are original gundam fan, will be ticked off for not staying with main storyline 😂
I was really excited for this game but I think I’ll probably wait till it goes on sale. Besides I got to finish SRW 30 first. Very excited for gundam evolution too.
I like it.
Americans: Why isn't everything in my language lol
Gundam Breaker 3 was one of the best Gundam games I've played.
Gundam Breaker 3 IS the best Gundam game.
