I much prefer the commercials be removed from a game, be it on television or radio. If I need a toilet break, I can pause the video. But, as I mentioned in another comment, I am glad that I saw the ad at 18:10.
Everything about this post is outstanding- the game itself was exciting, the back and forth between the announcers was classic, Earl's perm- confirming it was the 1980's, the highlights from other sports, and those great commercials- honorable mention to Mr. T! Thanks for posting!
Missed most of this season and did not get to see this game. Wespac 1984. Ports of call included Pearl Harbor, Subic Bay ( loved it, lost 40 pounds in 30 days don't ask how LOL) Was in Subic Bay for two months in dry dock at the same time as the USS Kitty Hawk that had a slight accident with a Victor class Soviet Submarine. Pusan South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore (sailed right by it) Djibouti and Perth WA Australia.
A 19 year old Jose Rijo closes it out. Then you have Bill Bonds working his routine at the end of the broadcast, since this is a dub of WXYZ in Detroit. Great vintage material.
I looked up Anheuser-Busch LA Beer. LA stands for "low alcohol". I didn't hear them even say that in the commercials. I went back and realized he did say it has half the alcohol, but it was hard to catch! He mumbled it. Anyway, it was new in 1984, but sales went down and down through the 80s, and they stopped making it in 1990. They had come up with O'Doul's in the meantime, with almost no alcohol, and that's still around.
The 1984 Tigers and 1986 Mets were the best teams in the 1980's. i know the Blue Jays that year went 5-8 against the Yankees while the Royals went 5-7 against the Yankees but the Indians must have been awful that year going 2-11 against the Yankees in that season. The Tigers went 7-6 against the Yankees that year.
earl's perm is a classic for the ages.
Dammit beat me to it!!!
I love it when they leave the commercials in. You can relive the broadcast as it happened, same pace.
I agree 100%
I know. Vintage 80''s. Mr T: corporate sponsor!

I was at this game .. I was 15 years old.... Old Tiger stadium. ... Memories.. The smell of hotdogs, crowded cramped urine smelling restrooms...
Your shoes sticking to 70 years of spilled beer.
The shaking and foot pounding from the upper deck during the rallies
I was 15. When is your bday?

@@loyaldude10 He was trying to look hip. Hey it was 1984.

So great watching this including the commercials 😅 Wonderful memories. 🙂
Best thing about this game is seeing Niekro
ABC was basically the Detroit Tigers network in the spring of 84.
Rijo was only called up because the Mets called up Gooden and George made them call him up.
