    I like the tip about putting the plug in, to stop the screw going down the plug hole: it's common sense l know, but just forgetting this can make the job more time-consuming if it did disappear down there.

    I had the same problem with the exact same taps. Removed the valve and schlepped all round town trying to find the exact same valve, nobody had one. I ended up buying a pair of taps which were copies of the originals and just using the valve and handle as the spindle was slightly different to the original. The best part ? The price of the taps was about the same as the cost of a pair of valves !

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  Рік тому

      Hi there,
      I appreciate what you have experienced, it can be a problem. Generally, you do find that the ceramic disc valves are cheaper than the taps themselves, but retailer's tend to put you off getting them or don't make them very accessible. They tend to try and push you into getting a new set of taps instead, as in some cases they are more expensive, so better for the retailer. I've been given the run around myself, it's not much fun, but i hope the video helped.
      All the best

    So instead of just replacing a rubber washer, you have to spend a fortune on a whole brass section?

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  Рік тому

      Hi there,
      Firstly, you have to get your facts right this is a ceramic disc valve, they don't require a rubber washer as they are quarter turn taps, hence this video.
      It's not a fortune for the valve and its cheaper and easier then replacing the taps. As you have no idea about DIY I suggest you watch something else.

    Hi great video, is it possible to dismantle the ceramic valve into parts to descale & reassemble? If yes how?

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  Рік тому +1

      Hi there,
      Yes it is possible to take it apart you would need to descale it and also use HT silicone grease, so it's a 50 50 chance that it would work as it depends on your ceramic disc valve if it has been scored or if its slightly uneven.

      @@diyshop839 I've done that, but it only lasted for another year until it started dripping again. It should only be viewed as a temporary fix until a replacement valve can be obtained. We are in a very hard water area, which might account for the early failure.
      Annoyingly, the plumber who fitted the taps in 2019 said that they would last for about 25 years. Pigs might fly! The cold tap leaked in 2022, after only 3 years of use. Our old washer-valved taps lasted for 25 years and needed only about 5 new low-cost washers, all of them on the cold tap. The hot tap washer never needed replacing.

      Hi there,
      The best thing to do is follow the instructions in my video, and take the ceramic disc valve to a plumbers merchant or your local DIY store for them to match it, as there are many different types.
      Also take the head gear,
      Once you have replaced the valve the dripping will stop.

      Hi there,
      In this video they are quarter turn taps therefore they require a ceramic disc valve,
      With regards to the one's with the rubber washer those taps you have to keep turning (full turn operation taps) and at the bottom of those valves is a rubber washer.

      Hi there,
      From what I can gather you are referring to a small bathroom basin. The access on these is more restricted than with larger basins. You can purchase a monument basin wrench which will allow you to gain access and tighten the back nut. Here is a link to the tool
      www.toolstation.com/monument-2-jaw-adjustable-basin-wrench/p63844
      If you have any further questions the best thing to do would be to drop me an email with some photos or a video of the basin and I can help if your stuck. My email is diyshop72@gmail.com

    For newibies, its obvious the ceramic valve needs changing but you didn't pinpoint the cause of the dripping.

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  2 роки тому

      Hi there,
      The cause of the dripping is due to limescale or a build up of debri, this then causes a gap between the two discs and therefore allowing water to pass through the gap and cause the leak / dripping.
      Hope this helps.
