It's an RTD opener. They're always off the charts bonkers, silly, and fun. I'm 52 and so could sit with "Tom is my Doctor and that's how Who should be" tattooed on my soul, but then I'd miss out on all the other amazing things this show can do and be. I didn't quite "get" this story, but you roll with it and love Who for Who's sake. Ncuti has phenomenal energy and is just getting started. And the dynamic with Millie is fizzing!! Can't wait for more. ❤
Exactly! - love this, the nature of the show is change and experimentation, every story should feel different and interesting - every era should feel different, it's the nature of the show and if people don't like one thing, they don't NEED to interact with it!
@@gbsheard Also, who doesn't love baby-poo-Powered space travel, and a monster made out of real bogeys?!
I agree to an extent, but I just think this episode went too far onto the silly side. Even when compared to other RTD episodes like New Earth. And RTD has said in a couple of interviews that he really wants Doctor Who to be as big as the Marvel shows, but I really can’t see this episode pulling in that big of an audience. I love that Doctor Who is family friendly, but so is the Mandalorian, and that show doesn’t need to feature talking babies and farting spaceships to make it so.
Facts bro. I've always loved dr who so much, I've watched it since I was a kid but was never involved with the community of it before. Recently I started looking into the online community and I don't get why but they just hate on everything so much
Welcome to the community! - Just ignore the hate filled side and try and stick to the fun, discussion-y side of things!
@@gbsheard Yeah man. I have a question. I've seen every dr who episode from 2005 up to the season Jodie Whittaker became doctor when I lost interest in the series. Everyone on the internet says her time was really bad, is that another example of the hate or is there truth behind it hahaha
@@flintie6130 There's a truth as it's generally agreed the writing wasn't great, but there was a massive amount of unfounded hate too
@flintie6130 it got alot of unnecessary hate for sure - but every era is different, it's for some, not for others - like any era of the show it's worth a try and if it's not for you then stick to other eras I'd say!
I absolutely loved Space Babies! The space babies themselves were absolutely adorable and the episode was a great continuation of the brilliant dynamics between the fifteenth doctor and ruby sunday! It was a fun episode and I loved those space babies! 😂😊
To me Space Babies genuinely felt like a SJA episode to me and that's saying something despite how mature some eps of SJA can be, It was fun and silly but felt a little too childish to enjoy properly imo and i ususally like when DW is wild and goofy like; Partners in Crime, Unicorn and the Wasp, New Earth or The Idiots Lantern. Not bad but not the best starting episode, I much prefered The Devil's Chord (also seems like a better start) which, just felt like the giggle part 2, chaotic, fun and mad, but the idea was more interesting to keep me engaged, while the Babies, just really didnt grab my attention or interest that much. Probably a 6/10 for me, however im still rly hyped for this era. 😅
Interesting! I would agree it's a bit overly silly in places, but again, seems like it's by design?
Seemed more like a show that should have been on CBBC to me
I think it was quite high energy, but I think Doctor Who has always had episodes like this that are a bit sillier? 🤔
This is exactly right. Not bad, just aimed at kids - just like The Sarah Jane Adventures
@@Elcrisso1 They were a little more grown up than this.
@@gbsheardI get that, but I don’t think RTD can expect it to pull in an audience the size of the marvel shows if he does want to go in that direction. It’s certainly very fun, but also very niche.
What about the monitor at the end before the Doctor goes out for Christmas?
7.5/10, maybe higher during a rewatch we’ll see. I loved it. Yes it’s a bit silly but I like having episodes like that thrown into a series. The chemistry between doctor and companion and the influence they have on each other was sorely missed in chibnalls era and I already see it and feel it ten fold here. I like the sibling type relationship they’re building, I think it works really well for ncuti and Millie. I was skeptical after church of Ruby road. It leaned too much into the fantasy for me with flying singing goblins and I was pretty concerned coming into this new season. Thankfully it doesn’t seem like that so far. Are there some criticisms for this and devils chord? Yes definitely, but they didn’t take away from my enjoyment of them.
In my honest opinion, space babies was ok. It certainly wasn’t boring, but it wasn’t that good either. I feel like I still need to warm to ncutis Doctor more. Kinda wish they’d gone more with the horror, rather than focusing on babies. I preferred this to the devils chord tho
George your video is incredible on this. Watching this episode just brought a smile to my face. It’s wacky, silly and so much fun. I knew this episode wasn’t perfect but in a way that is what doctor who is. It’s to create new things and try out things that haven’t been done. Even though The Devil’s Chord is better, I personally think Space Babies is a bold opener and props to RTD for doing that. Loving the reviews and content from you. Keep it up man 🔥🔥
Thank you! 😊
completely agree
I think this episode almost works for me, it’s a pretty standard but fun romp, but it needed another draft in my opinion, and while I like the idea here, the execution, especially the talking effects on the babies, are just painful 😅 but there’s amazing energy from and between the doctor and ruby, their chemistry is fantastic together. Surprisingly like it more than I dislike it, hard to love, harder to hate 😂 6/10
Now Devils Chord however 🤩😍🤩
Yeah exactly, not for everyone a little bit larger than life - but honestly harmless!
I liked the episode a lot too, it was the kinda silly concept that makes Doctor Who such a unique and cool show and Ncuti kills it as The Doctor, I love his energy
I like to think him saying his people are gone the way he did is just a cover so Ruby doesn’t see him upset
While 15 is a lot more emotionally honest, he’s still the doctor at the end of the day
The new opening reminds me a bit of Matt Smith’s original opening title sequence, with a bit borrowed from his second one. That being said, as for the last of the time lords thing … well Chibnall didn’t exactly gave him a choice after the horrid Cyberlord BS. That being said, The Devil’s note does kind of hint that maybe The Doctor isn’t the last of the time lords because he’s not totally sure what happened to Susan. He just sorta guesses she’s dead
Although this episode I probably wont watch again, I still loved it! It was entertaining, fun, and scary, which is what I find this series usually does pretty well!
Great fun, but haters are going to hate. Very vocally as usual.
somehow this is the worst comment section of any doctor who video I've watched this week. makes me feel horrible
Yeah, it's disappointing to me too... there seems to be an influx of people searching these videos just to hate comment
@@gbsheard yeah no worries! it's a good video though
I can’t say I liked it too much if I’m being honest. I think it would’ve worked a lot better as episode 4 or 5, but as an episode to kick of the new season to pull in a brand new audience in hope of making Doctor Who as big as the marvel shows? I’m not so sure. I’ve always loved RTD’s and Doctor Who’s childish side, but I think this episode went a smidge too far with it. I just hope it doesn’t scare any new viewers away, because I showed it to a couple of my friends who’ve never watched the show before, and they were just laughing, but not in a good way unfortunately. On a side note, Ncuti and Millie are great, I just wish their friendship was a bit more fleshed out instead of just making them all of a sudden best friends.
8 out of 10. Much better than The Devil's Chord
… I liked Praxeus
3/10 1 for existing 1 for the audio working and 1 for having the camera pointed in the right direction.
It’s wasn’t the best opener but loved the doctor and ruby’s dynamic, the cgi was fantastic bar the babies mouths, the writing was fine for the most part and the acting from Ncuti and Millie were very believable, I enjoyed the episode except for a few small gripes 8/10
Ncuti and Millie were great!
@@gbsheard I just hope we have a few more grittier stories now with boom and 73 yards, I think dot and bubble will be a lot of people’s underrated episode of the season, rogue will be either hit or miss and the finale will be bonkers
I stopped watching after the Hartnell era, all Doctor Who episodes have been derivative fan fiction after the pilot episode.
😂😂 based
Everyone crying 😂 get a life
This show is hot soiled baby diapers 😂
Personally, when I think a show is THAT bad - I don't scroll youtube looking for videos on it? but go off!
Which saved the day! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@gbsheard well, when a vid popped up on my feed saying this show was good, I just had to click on it. 😃
@@gbsheard To be fair any fans subscribed to your channel, like myself, are automatically notified of the video and aren't scrolling youtube looking for it, and you did ask for fans how they rated it. Ok , it was a blunt and lacked detail or reasoning why that was their conclusion. For me it's a 2 out of 10, and those points are for Ncuti and Millie, who are both great.👍 The pacing felt off and the plot line was wafer thin, the only parts I found interesting were the Doctor picking up on Ruby not being quite right, his memories in a state of flux, and the Susan Twist cameo. The rest, to me, felt like a bad adaptation of a Red Dwarf script, it was the most disappointing season opener I can recall.
Would rather rewatch a lot of chibnal than rewatch this episode- I'd give it 2/10
Really? Go on . Do it. I dare you
1out of 10 its awful 😖 😱
really?? I think I'd rather watch this than ALOT of episodes over the years 👀
@@gbsheard Look at the ratings of this show, literally no one is interested in the way it's being handled now! The writers and actors are extremely arrogant of this fact and refuse to change and really keep hammering heavily, certain political views which is just destroying the show and what it used to be. Yet you replied to me, confirming you must have nothing better to do🤣
@@gbsheard I’d rather drink backwash than dog sick, doesn’t mean they should serve it in a restaurant.
@@gbsheardcough chibnal cough
@@popcrazyfishProductionsYet you’re here on a video about the show. Says more about your character and how little else you must have to do 👍
It’s horrid. And what’s worse, the *concept* in ep 2 is great, lots of potential. It’s too bad the execution is crap and it’s, of course, sprinkled with agenda which is just the shite cherry on the turd sundae.
The baby episode is 0/10 all around.
No, it's not. It's embarrassing rubbish.
