- I'll be making a series of videos eventually on the sharpest 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lenses I've ever tested, and in anticipation of that, Samyang UK kindly let me borrow two of their very sharpest lenses for re-testing on some very high resolution cameras: a Canon EOS R5 (45mp, full-frame) and Canon EOS M6 ii (32.5mp, APS-C). Let's see how they did! Remember, Samyang lenses are also sold under the 'Rokinon', 'Walimex', 'Opteka', and 'Bower' brands.

Thank you. So great to see the Samyang 135mm f/2 chart-tested now, and to see that it holds up so well, even on very challenging sensors. I love my copy, even though it has a quite apparent warm cast.
Love these higher resolution re-tests!
I have owned the Samyang 85mm f1.2, an awesome lens!
great timing! thanks chris, i was just thinking about getting the XP 85mm for my soon to be Z7
I’m a pastor who bought an M50 to record worship during the pandemic. I recently upgraded to an M6 II and I was curious about how the 135mm might pair with it. This is VERY helpful, along with your other reviews. Would you consider revisiting the Sigma 150-600mm on the M6 II? Thanks for your thoughtful and comprehensive reviews!
I would like to see how Helios 44M will perform on these modern cameras.
I personally have a 44M, and the lens is pinsharp in the middle at wide open on my A7 III. The sides are obviously horrendeous, but thats not a surprise to anyone
Good on 24mp full frame. Needs to be stopped down on higher resolution cameras.
Hi, Chris waiting for resolution test of Sigma 50mm (Art), 85mm (Art), 105mm (Art), 135mm (Art) on Canon R5 and Canon M6 MKii. Your resolution testing ideas have helped me a lot buying lenses.Keep it up. God Bless!
I've already tested all of those lenses on a 42mp Sony camera, so those results will broadly show you how they perform on a 45mp camera
Sure Chris. Thanks for those wonderful videos.I loved your Sharp enough series is awesome.
Thank You Chris. I would love to see a comparison between the Samyang 85mm F1.2 and Mitakon 1.2
Totally agree... the mitakon 50 f/0.95 was tested twice (mark ii and iii) and again for third time for the Nikon version and finally fourth time (comparing it to the Noct) while the 85mm 1.2 left neglected...
would love to see a retesting on sigma 18-35mm f1.8 art and Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6
I have the samyang xp 85mm. Being MF it's not super practical, but I am unable to get rid of it due to its amazing image quality 😅
The Bokeh softness is on a whole different level.
I've been lusting after the 85MM 1.2 since I saw the initial review
Same for me with the 50. If the RF 50 1.8 sucks I'm gonna get it
Just in time for my gear lusty decision on which 85mm to go with for my M6ii. So glad you tested it on my camera. I wonder how it would look speedboosted. Given how sharp it is, the added softness of the magnification might be less noticeable.
Thanks a lot, Chris!
keep the M6ii lens tests coming, please!!
Thanks for this vid! I am planning on purchasing a Nikon Z 7II this holiday season and am ready to get a Samyang/Rokinon 135 soon (as a nice mid-level zoom for astro on my current D5200). Looks like the Z & 135 should be a great pair.
Great review. Would you test the sigma 85mm 1.4 art and Sigma 50mm 1.4 art on that M6mk2, would be interesting to see how it handles the apsc sensor. Keep up the great work!
We need dedicated M6ii adapted high quality lens reviews! The crowd begs for more.
We need 135mm F2 AF ASAP!
Indeed!
I've been wanting this lens for a long time. The only thing that's been stopping me is the lack of Autofocus.
When I'm out shooting some pictures, I always use autofocus (1 focus point)...
Beware of XP 85mm f1.2 not being suitable for use in temperatures below 0 celsius as focus ring freezes to unusable state. That is valid for XP 14mm f2.4 too. The grease oil at focus mechanism freezes most likely .
Hi, awesome, as always. I would like to ask, if focus aid is working on the xp lens (the prisma thing and the green box)
Hello Christopher. I just compared your original test of the 85mm f/1.2 with a Canon 6D to this test of the 85mm f1.2 with the R5 and the resolution and image quality is better on the Canon 6D??? Less red flare, more contrast, resolution as good if not better on the 6D. I thing the 20 CMOS sensor on the 6D is one the best sensor for digital camera
I'd like to again submit my request for a re-testing of the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 with image stabilization and competitive sharpness when the lens first came out.
I've always been hesitating to buy the 135mm f/2. Especially for my Astrophotography hobby. The only thing that's stopping me is that it's a fulltime Manual Focus lens, and I still use Autofocus a lot. I only focus manually at night, or when I shoot Macro pics. :\
The results of the test, however, are absolutely amazing! :)
That's a sharp video 💪
is Tamron 70-180 f2.8 review coming? Hope I'm not the only one who'd want to see how that performs
Thanks for your video. It seems your old 6D is better than your R5. Can you please compare the 6D and R5? If there's no big difference then I will go for 6D since the R5&R6 are very expensive. Thanks a lot!
Better than my R5?!
Please review Tamron 70-300 for Sony E. Tks 😘
Can you test the sigma 18-35 1.8 Art on that 45 MP camera?
Thanks for this. 👌
Are these available in Leica M mounts?
Does the canon R5 IBIS work with the 85mm f1.2 Samsung lens?
wish i could afford an r5 (my mindset is always more like "coild i afford it if i'd break it") ... the plus side is probably that i wont notice any issues on most of my lenses with my old trusty 6d mkii with its wonky OVF AF :D
Those M-AF lenses look so much fun to use, a shame i cant manual focus trough the viewfinder with my bad eyesight (i have to shoot trough my glasses so hitting focus at bright apertures is... just gambling.
Why don’t you use live view mode on the screen and zoom in rather than using the viewfinder?
What about EF 85mm f1.2L II? Same price as the Samyang XP used, but with AF. As a portrait lens, I think resolution is not the highest priority.
I'll be testing that one soon, too
@@christopherfrost fantastic. Thank you and hope you well. I feel the AF performance differences, especially tracking moving subjects, could be shown a bit more for lenses like 70-200 100-400, 150-600. For instance, last gen Sigma DSLR telephotos are optically superb but inferior af to Canon Nikon or even Tamron. It could be a deciding factor of such lenses for many.
32.5 pm? Petamixels are fun things
Sigma DG DN 135mm confirmed 😂🤐😇
We waiting Canon 85mm f2 micro
And 70-200mm f4
YES
XP 85mm f/1.2 on R5, Do Confirm focus function and IBIS work?
I need to know this as well.the focus guide box on the eos r is amazing for manual focus. It has electric contacts so I’m guessing is should if your get a adapter that supports it!
@@Swaggapackin I tested it. Confirm focus and ibis work when use this lens with R5
I think 45 mp is to much for these lenses, but 36mp or less and there fantastic.
I literally just watch the 135mm just in the previous video. And then this new viseo of chria came out. What a timing!!
try testing the nifty fifty haha
My EOS R5 currently has a nifty fifty attached to it! I bought one so that I can compare it to the new RF version that's going to be announced soon.
