Moss Breches was an instant favorite the first time i tried it around 2012. It was already discontinued back then and wasn’t easy to find but still accessible. Such a wonderful honeyed patchouli moss scent. Great take on it Ramsey!
Oakmoss is my favorite note of all the notes out there!!! Thank god I am lucky enough to live in the same era with Manuel Kross... I have the 250ml bottle bought in 2010 with the fragrance somewhere in the middle and if I remember correctly i got it for around 450 euros from the airport in Zurich! Is my most precious perfume in my collection, I keep it cold in the fridge, in its box and airtight with quadruple membrane film 😂i know i sound crazy because perfumes suppose to give us joy in life but sometimes being a Gollum brings joy too 😛 I wonder if Chypré Suprême from The Dua Brand is close enough as they say!
I am wearing a new frag this morning thats reminding me of Moss Breches. Acqua di Parma re released Cypress of Tuscany. Cipressso di Tuscana. Moss and patchouli, with sage and basil, cypress and pine. I jusr put it as signature for Summer. A great value as well.
@@RamseytheRam I'm gonna have to compare it to my Pavarotti for sure. But I was able to score a few vintage bottles of that Pierre Cardin. It is great smelling perfume, but it lasts 5 to 6 hours max on me. Im ok with it. Such a gentlemanly scent and profile.
I think you’re spot on with the Pavoratti analogy. The way Tom Ford makes a hit is being minimal and pushing on those elements. Developing the aspect. This is like a stripped down Pavorat with less fruit and more of a caramel / hay dry down. Pretty linear. Have 10mls and enjoy it thoroughly but won’t be paying thousands for it. I have to say after watching this I appreciate the craft of the composition even more. Nicely done Ram
I didn't know this! Every now and then Tom Ford amazes me, it's a shame it's discontinued, it looks delicious! Strange that almost no brand is now interested in the honey-patchouli combo, I would have expected a honey/patchouli/deer musk fragrance from Russian Adam.
Great to hear your take on Moss Breches. A lady Claudia from NY, sells decants of Areej and Tom Ford. I finally got a 2 ml of Antiquity from her. She gave me a free sample of Moss Breches on request. I did really like it, as I'm enjoying great oakmoss frags more. Balenciaga, etc. She is selling 3 ml for $59 on eBay and marcari. Is Bortnikoff Moss cologne a good alternative?
Not even close to Bortnikoff! Moss cologne was such a disappointment for me, almost feels like a scam for its price! It has a citrus opening with a beautiful heart but its base smells so cheap and feminine.
I've always wanted to try this. My buddy bought the DUA clone and sent me a decant. It'd atrocious. I don't trust that DUA is faithfully recreating these lost fragrances. I was also sent me the clone of Acier Aluminum, and that wasn't very close until you get to the far drydown, and then they are in the same area code, but still not very close. What are your thoughts about clones of vaulted/impossible fragrances to find? In my opinion, 9 times out of 10, they fall well short of the goal. I also think they might be unsafe because there is no oversight
I don't even bother with the clones anymore... it's not my thing anyways... someone called me "classist" once for avoiding the clones... I blocked their a** 🤣🤣🤣
@RamseytheRam I agree, I think it's unethical to outright copy someone's work. I used to think the only thing that I could get behind is bringing impossible to find fragrances back to life (like creed royal service but how can anyone be sure it's an accurate interpretation? Aside from that, it's a scummy business model.
you guys arent gonna like this....but i have a small amount of moss breches, and ive smelled the dua clone (forget the name). considering the dua is like 50 bucks or whatever....its actually not bad all things considered. i feel like the dua comes off a little more feminine, and obviously doesnt beat you over the head with quality like the real deal lol. jussssst sayin....
@@petbull7038 i will definetely say the real one is absolutely much better, but certain big parts of the original are there. you get that beeswax really heavy in the beginning, the benzoin and vanilla are there but it dries down kinda into pour monsieur by pierre cardin. i would never say its just as good or anything like that, but if you hate the dua i would definetely tell you dont spend $1000 on moss breches haha. im like ramsey at this point, no clones for me....but thats a months rent for a decant for moss breches, if you can even find it.

Nothing mentioned about the unusual name for this fragrance? Nice review, although I think you owe it to your viewers to at least pronounce the name of the fragrance correctly. It’s pronounced , not . Being an American with no French does not really grant you a viable pass when devoting a post to a single fragrance, for a little googling can give you the (very simple) pronunciation. Up your nerd game slightly higher, my friend. Brèches is a village in the Loire Valley, but the word itself also means ‘breeches’, or, in other words, a type of trouser. So, is the name of the fragrance a nod to that region of France (doubtful), or is there some kind of cheeky innuendo having to do with men’s trousers and woodlands. (We all know Tom Ford’s occasional predilection for that kind of innuendo in his marketing.) The ‘PG-rated’, and perhaps most likely, interpretation of the name might be simply the fusion of the fragrance’s elements: ‘Moss,’ denoting the fragrance’s (proclaimed, at least) earthy and aromatic elements, and perhaps ‘Breches’ as a nod to men’s sartorial history, and thus to the history of men’s perfumery. (Breeches were sometimes crafted from leather in the 19thC, though leather is not a major player in MB. Some kind of honeyed vanilla is, rather.) Personally, I don’t find it to be brilliant. Its scarcity is its primary value. And do you not catch even a slight connection to Derby? Much more ‘moss’ there, of course.
