Drums and percussion teacher here. I recommend you to check out Ariel by Jerry Goodman. Amazing album that he made in 1986 for Private Music label. Cobham is King!
Jan had just gotten his Mini Moog recently here - he hasn’t yet fully developed his pitch bending, which later he became the greatest of all time. He’s very raw here
As an orchestra teacher I strongly recommend you check out the album Apocalypse by the MO. It is with a full orchestra and produced by George Martin. This was made by the second version of the MO. The following album, Visions of the Emerald Beyond, is also orchestral in nature but on a smaller scale, many consider it to be their best album.
Really enjoyed the review. Normally the first tune, "Meeting...", generally includes a lengthy guitar solo, like others wrote. The studio versions of these songs are really worth a listen, particularly the album Birds of Fire and their first, Inner Mounting Flame. Thanks!
Glad to see someone who is not familiar with their music giving a listen, critique. From this same show is probably the best performance of the piece "A Lotus on Irish Streams" that Mahavishnu gave, in my opinion. Acoustic guitar, piano and violin. The only gentleman who has passed away from this ensemble is the bassist, Rick Laird. The rest still perform in the public forum with other musicians. Hope you have the opportunity to hear more of this particular line-up, they were monster.
@@E-LawReacts They usually have wonderful written movements and then time for everyone to blow over. Also, definitely no in ear monitors in that era. Much harder with stage sound in those days. They are part of, if not the beginning if jazz rock fusion. John Mclaughlin started this after leaving Miles Davis group.
@@E-LawReacts these are jazz musicians. No one "let them spotlight". Once upon a time, classical musicians improvised. Beethoven for example. Why they stopped improvising is unknown, may be a form of cultural fascism. Also, no effects on the violin, Jerry Goodman was in the band The Flock prior to Mahavishnu. ua-cam.com/video/r_ZJfgIasLg/v-deo.html
Reset your volume levels for the band in your video. Your voice level is fine, but the music is to soft to hear the parts being played distinctly. I'm half way in and have heard no comments about their ensemble playing. It's what made this band fantastic. Their ability to make odd time signatures flow and improvise over them as an ensemble is outstanding. You Know You is in the meter of 24, 8.
Yeah, not gonna lie. I’m still working on tweaking things with OBS. Biggest frustration is not being able to comfortably navigate separate audio channels in CapCut. I’ll dig in and see what I can fix. Thanks for the heads up!
In the same vein, but maybe less serious, but as exceptional musically, listen to BrandX, try the song Disco Suicide. BrandX has Phil Collins as drummer.

Ha, ha, John Mclaughlin over powered, ha, ha. Tell me more. I also like how you were giving John Mclaughlin advice on how to play guitar.
A lack of knowledge on this guy’s part. He hasn’t ever heard them before so we will have to give him a pass. 😅

This live set is 4 songs and the guitarist becomes more of a focus on the next 2 songs. The first two albums by them are definitely worth a listen
Oh that’s sick. I’ll have to track that all down and give it a listen this week!
You have to listen to Dawn. It's a little strange you perceive the guitarist as being overshadowed. He is really something special.
Yeah that was John McL letting the rest of the band shine. Weird one to start with, but I understand the sentiment
Mahavishnu, the beginnings of Jazz Rock Fusion. Guitarist is often showcased, his band. He allows for others here also to improvise.
It was a killer decision, letting them spotlight blew my mind on this track!

@@E-LawReacts i must suggest listening to their piece Eternity Breath parts one and two. Unbelievable. Or Birds of Fire...
