Orchestra Teacher Reacts - BAND MAID??
What's up everyone. Internet's tiredest music teacher here coming at you with a first-time reaction today. We're checking out the Japanese group Band-Maid and their song "alone". It's such a dope track and really leans in to a pop-punk or easy-core type of vibe.
Thanks to @RogerChance5309 for the recommendation!

What's up everyone. Internet's second tiredest music teacher here with a yapfest. Today we're checkin' out Tyler Childer's track "Feathered Indians" off of his 2017 album "Purgatory". It's such a Childers staple. If you dig this, you gotta run the whole album and also check out "Live on Red Barn Radio I & II". But yeah, I'll be at his concert in Charlottesville, VA in April. It's gonna be amazing.

What's up everyone. The internet's second tiredest music teacher here. Today we're doing a first time listen to a collab called Mad Villian. The peak part is MF DOOM on the track and his signature killer flow. Takes us back to the 90s NYC sound for sure.

Definitely check out their album "Demon Days" for some absolute bangers.

Took a listen to Caroline Polachek's "Welcome to My Island" and uhhhh, it was pretty friggin good. Disregard what I said and trust the video description. Also...what a weird second half of a video.

What's up everyone. The internet's second tiredest orchestra teacher checks out a track written by some friends, making up the persona/group Aura Chromatic. The track we're checking out is "The Arena" off of their release "The Third Age" from December 2023. The only way I can describe it is "dystopian retro-futuristic" and I friggin love it. @aurachromatic

Today, we're checking out some music by Hermeto Pascoal who is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist. The piece we check out today is his "Musica da Lagoa" or "Music of the Lagoon" (Lagoon Music). It's got some super groovy improvisation throughout and...

The internet's second tiredest music teacher listens to this two year old track by Pharrell Williams, ft. 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator, for the first time ever. Pharrell's signature four count already tells us it's gonna be a solid track and these two really showed up with their verses.

They’re so much better live.
Here's a little introduction to J-rock: 1) BAND-MAID / HATE? (Official Live Video) 2) ENIGMA@日本武道館 2024.2.17 [Official Live Video] 3) [Official Live Video] Unlucky Morpheus「その魂に安らぎを ~ Dignity of Spirit」 4) East Of Eden / Evolve [Extended Version] (Music Video)
Welcome to the wonder of Japanese all female rock and metal. Thanks to Roger for Band-maid. E-Law, the Maids are going to blow your mind, for me, one of the top 3 from Japan, add in Lovebites and Nemophila, and you have the whole spectrum of awesomeness. Groove, speed, classical, punk, thrash, heavy, hard, melodic, accoustic and ballad's Over 250 songs between them.. I think you are going to be here for a while. Good luck, enjoy, and best wishes from France 🤘🇨🇵
A band unlike any other in the world. So much inspiration for all musicians. Their musical expression is so overwhelming that after a few songs, you want care that you don't understand the lyrics.
This is oldie but goodie that is the first released self-written song (2016 I think) . You'll see them evolve so much over the following years, so much.
The lead guitarist, Kanami Tono, wrote this song. It was the first song by her that the band's management accepted. Until this song they had rejected everything she wrote. After this song? Nearly everything was written by her. This song was the first stone of the avalanche of songs by Kanami Tono -- lead guitarist and composer for Band-Maid. Kanami has played piano since she was four, and grew up with Chopin, until taking up guitar at high school.
After growing up on Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and later IronMaiden and Saxon and the like, I wasn’t looking but the ‘Undertow’ album came into my possession and I’ve always loved it
Subscribed. Great performance and reaction. Though the volume seemed a bit low for this reaction. Enjoy your concert this spring. If you would like to explore more and expand your channel, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance: BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL) Or: MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】 🖖 ❤
🤘🤘🤘🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to Band Maid !!!!!! You don't realize it yet but you just heard the best current rock band on the planet !!!! They are a genre less band that will blow you away !!!
You should try *The Warning,* who teamed up with Band Maid on a song on BM's latest album. The Warning is three sisters from Mexico, but they speak and sing in flawless English except for 3 songs. They are grammy-nominated, and the drummer was recently named by Forbes as one of the 100 most powerful women in Mexico. Try 'Evolve' at the 2023 MTV VMAs to start.
Not that any Band-Maid video is bad but you should always try to watch the live video of a song as it is then when these ladies shine and you see the true greatness of them. With 3 of the best musicians in the business (Akane - drums, Kanami - Guitar & Misa - Bass) and an amazing singing duo with Saiki & Miku they will just amaze you and always expect the unexpected in their compositions.
I agree with many others here, "From Now On" official MV. Thanks for the great reaction. New subscriber.
Welcome to Band-Maid!!
Drums? Check out "Freedom" or "Domination" live videos. The band says the former is their easiest to play. "Domination" has, amongst many things, some great double kick and a drum solo. Cheers.
MISA MISA MISA
Pop=Punk is the perfect description for many of their songs. Saw them live twice last year on their US tour. If your interested in seeing more of their musicianship I would recommend the instrumentals From Now On, Onset and Without Holding Back. Thank you for checking out our Maids. subbed.
Ex band director here - yep, this band has everything. I see the number of comments so I know i don't have to say what I was going to say - you're in for a real treat, E-Law.
Hell yeah. You know the grind, I appreciate it!
@@E-LawReacts In the very, very distant past.
Oh, early BAND-MAID! This is so old, MISA is still using that 4 string. 😁 Anyway, the point of me watching the video is I love watching musicians discover BAND-MAID. Non-musicians you get "wow that was cool", musicians know what they're listening to.
You wanna hear MISA's 5-string bass tone these days 💪👊 Check the 'Influencer' MV...good times 🥳🔥🤘🤘🤘
Unlike Baby Metal, these ladies write their own music and play their own instruments.
I always felt Baby Metal was a bunch of cliches wrapped together. I think I saw them on the MayhemFest tour once and the energy was good but yeah, nothing beats home grown music.
@@E-LawReacts I'm not taking any thing away from them but, They are 3 cute youngish looking girls dancing and singing in front of a band of hired guns while bands like Love Bites, Band Maid and Nemophilia actually bothered to learn to play their instruments. In fact, Miku Kobato, q!uickly tired of being called "a pretty Guitar stand" and actually took lessons from none other than Kanami her self!!! And when Saki left Nemophilia, Singer Mayu took on the rhythm guitar duties. And don't even get me started on the ladies in Gacharic Spin! To say Baby Metal is not my cuppa tea is to understate things
@@E-LawReacts Babymetal does not represent Japanese rock and metal, it is not even very popular in Japan itself. There are over 200 bands in J-rock, and almost all of them play and write their own songs.
Kudos Roger!!🍻
Hej E-Law, welcome to the world of Band-Maid. Glad to have you on this journey !
Thank you! I’m stoked!!
I admit - I LOOOOVE it when a musician hears Band-Maid for the first time!
Welcome to Band-Maid! Nice reaction, thumbs up. If you think this is awesome we're going to have to ease you in or your head will explode. Next up is the Dice MV: ua-cam.com/video/ZpAYnVJX9CY/v-deo.html
If you want a good drum solo, check out their live performance of "Freedom."
From now on. You’ll never be prepared for it so you might as well just check it out. 🎸
🤘🤘🤘
This is newbie Band-Maid as far as talent level is concerned. They've all developed significantly since then. Fun fact, this was the first song entirely written by the band that their label allowed them to record. In the Japanese music industry, it is _very_ common for bands to be given songs written by a stable of songwriters that work for the label. The band will then arrange the song and usually write their own lyrics. The labels prefer this as an investment over spending money to record songs written by unproven songwriters. From at least one interview, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist discussed how they were constantly submitting songs to the label early on, only to be told, "Nope." Alone was the first song that the label liked enough to give them the green light to record. The song was a big success, and they've been doing their own writing ever since. I mention that the band works really hard to improve. To give an example, in an interview earlier this year on PRS Japan's UA-cam channel, Kanami (Gt) said that every day, she does 30 minutes of basic guitar exercises in the morning. Thereafter, she spends roughly 3.5 hours in guitar practice and another 3.5 hours in composition. This even continues while they're on tour; many of their songs are written while touring. You can find videos from their recent tours where they're on their tour bus traveling between gigs, and they're sitting around practicing. To get an idea of how they've developed as a instrumentalists, watch their first video for Thrill, then watch the instrumental From Now On or the live version of Hate.
You have to do my introduction to them 4 years ago ONSET live, been a big fan since
Band Maid is absolutely a live band. So check a live performance from them, like Play, Hate?, Freedom, or Domination.
Love watching people lose their BAND-MAID cherry. I think "From now On" MV and "Onset" live would be right up your alley. They are both instrumentals.
I highly recommend you react to their official live version of Hate released about a year ago to see their amazing stage presence and amazing bass player and guitarist .
You mention pop punk but they mix all the genres in their songs. Roger has given you a gift. Enjoy it.
Oh definitely a wide array of influence! The pop punk riff was what stuck out on that first listen. Judging by all the comments, I’ll be doing another band maid asap to dive in deeper.
They are rock and roll guardian angels and the best hard rock band on this planet🤘Keep an eye on them!!
Check they live performance HATE? 😉
Spoiler. Kanami releases full scores of the albums when she can.
I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs and ballads with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2025. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Everything they have posted from their 10thAnniversary concert in Yokohama is absolute fire-I have bought the DVD and recommend you do too. 33 songs, 3 hours of insanity. The best clip on YT from that concert is “Hate?” ua-cam.com/video/yfORoQIqB3E/v-deo.html Here are more links, to older performances: Freedom (Feb 14 2020) ua-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/v-deo.html Domination (Feb 14 2020) ua-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/v-deo.html Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) ua-cam.com/video/HcqitbXgigU/v-deo.html Onset (Instrumental-insane!) ua-cam.com/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/v-deo.html And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): ua-cam.com/video/RCaeUkrItyY/v-deo.html
To all those who love (hard-)rock: this is THE band. An endless story of all that's beautiful in music (and life).
🤘🤘🤘
My opinion is that Band-Maid are one of the best bands to have formed in the past 15 years, and are currently one of the best rock and roll bands on the planet. They play many genres and styles including ballads, power ballads, pop, rock, progressive rock, hard rock, punk, metal, nu metal, and everything before in-between and beyond. They also have several great instrumental songs that they use live to give their lead singer Saiki a break. One instrumental you should listen to is From Now On. Some other song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, and Matchless Gum. Their latest live videos from Yokohama Arena are incredible. Don't You Tell Me and Hate are straight up bangers with guitar vs bass duels, and Endless Story is a tear jerker ballad that even choked up the lead singer, Saiki, and the drummer, Akane, since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. Also, they just released a collaboration with The Warning called Show Them which is a must listen. I hope that you choose to continue into the Band-Maid pigeon hole. Yes, pigeon hole, as Miku Kobato (band founder, rhythm guitar, vocals) identifies as an 810 year old pigeon. Yes, that is crazy but you will get used to it. (LOL) Have fun with it!
If it's drums you want try 'Freedom' LIVE. It has a drum solo. 'Hate?' LIVE has a guitar and bass Call & Response "Battle" in it.
Thanks, Roger spreading the word again. THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. Best served live.
I like requesting mv first so that way you get a first reaction then you get a first live reaction 🍺😁🕊️
@RogerChance5309 Ah, clever.
@@tonygriffin_ You subbed to Q101? If so could you drop a Maid request on their newest 21 pilots reaction. And try to get someone else to do the same 🍺😁
5 beautiful Japanese ladies in maid costumes holding up the flag of Rock 'n Roll music at a time when it has lost so much of its relevance? Damn right! 🤘🏻:) And yes, each one of them has enormous talent, but their real strength lies in the collective and live on stage. 🔥 As it happens, there's also a video of them in which all this is shown quite well and in which drummer Akane also has her moment. » Freedom (Official Live) 😉 Greetings from Germany. 🙋🏻♂ _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. You've liked this one? Lucky you you're going to love and be amazed by the 100 others 😍
Dont get me wrong baby metal is good, but the only thing these 2 groups have in common is they both from Japan, baby metal is metal, the Maids are rock, the Maids are at the top of the rock business today
Babymetal is a metal idol project for fans of show tricks. There are more interesting metal bands in Japan
💜💛❤💙💚 Welcome to the Maidiacs E-Law
🍺🤪
Take time to watch the 7-part biography by Ohrenje. Each episode is about 30 minutes long (one for each member, with Miku getting three episodes). You will be charmed by each member and will develop an appreciation for their dedication to their craft, their fellow band members, and their fans.
