I’ve fished all my life including deep water, as I approach the end of it ( my life) I’m feeling increasingly guilty for causing these beautiful creatures suffering. What they feel as they explode on the way up we will never know. But they sure do taste good.

@@normalman23 But I don’t believe there is a god. The fact is that every creature in the ocean preys on some other creature and that is just how it is, and us humans are smart enough to position ourselves at the top of the food chain. I tell myself this every time a large shark takes an interest in me and my boat.

@@normalman23 . Its inflicting suffering that gets to me but there doesn’t appear to be any way to avoid it other than not to go fishing. Who knows how a fish experiences life but I’m quite sure my beloved dog’s experience of life is not too dissimilar to my own. He certainly is more capable of love and empathy than many humans I know. He is a big strong boy but when the cat is tormenting a bird he goes and hides.
