  • In this video, we cover what we feed our crickets. We’re super lucky to be able to source a high quality cricket feed so locally.
    We use BioForge Labs Insect Diet with Meat.
    We also use potatoes to feed freshly hatched pinheads.
    If you can’t access. BioForge labs feed, a non-GMO or organic chicken starter works well.

    Thanks for the videos you've been posting!
    I've been tasked with kicking off a cricket-breeding project for work (to feed our animals). Your videos have been a great help.
    I'm curious how much feed you go through in terms of lbs in a given month. Knowing the rate of food consumption per # of crickets would probably be helpful to many watching the videos.
    Also, I'm planning to order some of your cricket-based snacks as soon as I'm not poor again.
    Cheers!

    Thank you so much for this video. How to you water you crickets? I kept some in the past and the water would make the drown and the crystals are expensive and just get poopy and mold. What have you found that works? Thank you again.

      Try a small little dish or container (yogurt lid or something similar with a short lip) put some stones/pebbles in it so they can walk on it and add water! Easy to clean and change and very affordable. Hope this helps!

    Hi Cricket Lady,
    You are doing great work.
    I am from India and researching the cricket farming business feasibility here. I am exploring options to cut feed cost for commercial chickens farms through cricket/BSF/mealworms.
    1. Chicken eat 3kg of feed to produce 2kg of meat which has 27% CP in it.
    Whereas crickets eat 2 kg of feed to produce 1 kg of raw crickets which has 16-20% CP so the FCR is high and cricket feed is too costly.
    2. Also from consumer perspective, 100 grams chicken eggs contain 13 gram of protein, whereas 100 grams of raw Cricket has 16-20gm protein, so the cost of consuming 20 gram protein from eggs is hardly 20cents whereas from cricket is very high. Also other sources like beans etc are also quite cheaper.
    It’s going great from environmental perspective and could be a game changer in near future but I am still not convinced from economic feasibility or consumer perspective? Why would someone still make them in their regular diet while other cheaper alternatives are available, jus to try something new 🙂?

    Just noticed here in the UK when I look at the components of bug feed - they are almost identical to a lot of good quality dog dry food - so theoretically one could (in a small scale) grind it up oneself.

    Greetings from Russia. I really like your video. Very informative. I also keep a small farm in my city and I also want to consult with you about feeding. Give me advice if I'm feeding my crickets right. I would be very grateful.
    The diet of my crickets is dry and wet food.
    Dry food is the starting compound feed for chickens, granulated. The protein level is approximately 24-28 percent.
    Wet food is pumpkin. I know you use potatoes, but I prefer pumpkin. Crickets love it more and its protein level is higher.
    I have a concern that I am not getting enough calcium and protein. Maybe I should add dried hamarus or something like that? What do you think?

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching. It sounds like you have a really good feed source in place. Do you know if there is any animal protein in the chicken feed? I am guessing it's plenty high in calcium as most chicken feeds are. If pumpkin works best for you, stick with that.

    • @Viktorios100
      @Viktorios100 2 роки тому

      @@BuildingInASmallTown thanks a lot 🙏 😀 for your response 👍. Yes, there is included animal protein. My concern just in its quantity. For the breeding ones I add some dride hamarus. Maybe I should do it for the little ones 🤔

    Got first bundle 3 days ago, 500 for $37AUD. 49 have died, only 2 of them were fed to spiders. The ventilation and food are fine. The temperature is about 2°c below the preferred range. Is that why they're dying?

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  3 місяці тому

      Unlikely due to the temperature. They have water? Possible that wherever they came from has a disease problem. Also, do you have egg crates or other housing for them?

    And i have 2 question

    2 where they poop and what can you do with it. Sorry for my english :) tnx

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  2 роки тому

      Great questions!! (and please don't apologize for your english, my Turkish would be horrible!)
      1. When you say some of them die, what age are they? Are they fully grown adults, or younger? What do they look like when they die? Is there any discoloration or visible trauma?
      2. They poop in their enclosures, but it should remain dry. If it's moist in anyway, you have a humidity problem. It makes GREAT fertilizer for your garden or house plants. If you have a compost pile, it's also a great additive.
      Thanks for watching. I hope this helps! :-)

      yep!
      1. You'll have to check current prices (fluctuates with grain prices). $40-60 depending on volume you are buying
      2. figure 2 lbs per lb of crickets you intend to raise. If you're new, plan on 3 lbs per lb (roughly 1,000 crickets per lb)
      3. See answer 2
      Hope this helps! Sorry it took so long

    • @BuildingInASmallTown

      The reason they came up with GMO is so that plants can withstand the sprays they use to kill pests and weeds. So the crops that are grown from GMO are sprayed with both kinds of toxins. Some hast to get absorbed by the plant you would think especially if it’s plowed into the ground and replanted every year

We as a human race need to stand up now and fight this otherwise we will be eating bugs which is fed soybeans basically which is sprayed with chemicals not in our favor. 5 billion people gone in the near future is their plan.
