Ty luke,,,just sgonna start now as yr way is way less complicated,,,,ive got a couple of flinders r scorpions,,,,,plus feeding yr own makes healthy food 4 yr animals ty once again
Man I really thank you, soon I won’t have to order online anymore. With your set up I’ve keep alive 1000 1/8 and 3/8 crickets. I also had a batch hatch and I can keep the smalls!! The others will eventually get bigger but I need to figure out how to manage the bigger ones! I’ll probably just use a 40 gallon tub for the ones that get big! This rocks and I only check substrate 1 a week to make sure it’s wet for eggs! No constantly feeding and maintaining like my other feeders. I prob throw some clean up beetles in there as well.
Awesome video. The self-watering is really cool. I had dedicated a specific egg crate and was eye dropping water onto it to absorb into it but its been a very manual process so far. This is a great alternative.
I contemplated breeding crickets but it's tough to try anything else after I keep dubia roaches as they require so little effort to keep the colony going. So just buy the odd box of crickets here and there as a treat. Nice informative vid though never seen the water idea before either.
I know what you mean. Roaches are very easy and thrive off nothing. I suppose it depends on how many animals you have and whether that warrants you giving it a crack. For me personally it was 100% worth while.
I’ve breed the bastards by accident😂 I just kept throwing five or six crickets in my bio active frog tank for feeding. I just noticed hundreds of little babies. Jeeze.
Just made a watering station like what you showed in the video. The cotton is absorbing water from the container but it also appears to be dripping quite a bit of water. Do you ever experience a little bit of flooding?
Thank you for this video. Just what I've been looking for. The biggest complaint I've heard about raising crickets is they smell. Do you find your method doesn't smell?
Personally I don’t ever smell them so I’m not sure what others are talking about. To me, roaches stink a lot and I prefer the crickets. I’d assume that maybe the crickets are eating more greens and vegetables so maybe that’s contributing to smell with others systems.
Awesome video man, I got a question, I’ve been producing 1000’s of crickets but they never get past the slightly larger than pinhead stage, they don’t die, they just never grow, I’ve had pinheads that are 2 months old and just never grow, they eat drink and no issues there, but they stay the same size forever….. wtf am I doing wrong? My reptile room stays between 73-77 degrees I’m at a complete loss
i know this is very off topic but ive been wondering for ages and theres not really alot written about it but is safe to cohabitate gtb's from the same clutch because ive seen youve done it but not anyone else
One thing I wanted to ask... you only breed crickets and do you still breed woodies? Anything else you breed? Also, do you feed anything else to the crickets or gutload them before feeding them out? Thanks so much for this amazing resource!
I at times breed mealworms as well but have kinda let my colony go atm. Will fire it back up towards the end of winter. The chicken pellet I use is packed with calcium for egg production in the chooks but other than that I might throw in some leafy greens or pumpkin or something the night before a feed out. Whatever I have on hand and if I feel like they need it.
This is the most minimal effort set up I have seen so far. Thank you! The watering container idea is awesome
Glad it was helpful!
Love this vid. Great job.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
I love the idea for water. Thank you for sharing, Luke!😄
You are so welcome!
Thanks mate this helps so much am so over buying crickets! Great information and you definitely know your insects!
Glad to have helped mate! I’m just firing my colonies back up ready for summer.
Outstanding information and presented well. I'm ready to raise my own crickets and will follow your process. I learned a lot watching your video.
Thanks mate! Enjoy the process. It can take a little to get right but you’ll get there.

YES!! I've been dying for this video, thanks mate! 😄
Ok, I've watched this several times now and taken a bunch of notes... must be time to go buy some tubs! Wish me luck 😅
Good luck!
Set up looks spot on! My cricket tubs need a revamp so will be stealing some of these ideas!
Glad to have been able to help somewhat!
My Muscovys an I thank you so much. Set it up so easily, here on the farm in Siskiyou Co, CA!
How good! You’re welcome!
Always great to see another video from ya luke, really brightened my day. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much! Glad I could help :)
That watering method is AMAZING! I have been struggling to figure out a way to get water to them without them drowning 😂
So glad it’ll help!
@@BeachesScalyBeasts picked up the materials to make it today, so will see how it goes! Thanks again!
@@shikitorandall2173how did it go ?
Great vid I learnt where I was going on with the few times I tried breeding them unsuccessfully. Tx for the info!
No problem 👍
Great video! Thank you-raising baby huntsmans often getting pinheads and extra small can be hard where i live-definitely gonna try this 👍
You can do it!

Haha we’ll done!
Dope and easy, shared, helps people spend less.
Much appreciated Brendi!
Awesome video! What's your suggested method for getting the adult crickets out of the tub when its time to feed the reptiles?
Great video very informative
Thanks Chad!
Great work bro 👏
Thank you so much 😀
great video, thanks
You’re welcome!
Just made a watering station like what you showed in the video. The cotton is absorbing water from the container but it also appears to be dripping quite a bit of water. Do you ever experience a little bit of flooding?
Never experienced flooding. Make sure the cotton cord is higher than the container so it doesn’t create a strong wick and drain the container.
@@BeachesScalyBeasts Thanks, I did have the cotton below the container and putting it above fixed it.

Man I can’t really say I’ve had the same issue. Maybe it’s a good source that’s not the best? That’s me guessing without knowing more.
i know this is very off topic but ive been wondering for ages and theres not really alot written about it but is safe to cohabitate gtb's from the same clutch because ive seen youve done it but not anyone else
I took a punt and so far so good. Doesn’t mean it’s not Risky though. Gotta keep a close eye on things.

What about the lid for air.
The main tubs have flyscreen lids
How about a test tube whit water and a cotten bal in it for de newborns😁
Great idea!
I used soil that was too wet and my crickets died as they die with water really quickly
I’ve found as long as they are in a larger container with room to escape it they are fine. That’s just my observation.
First! 😁
Haha! Enjoy! Hope you learn something about bugs 😜
