Super is a 2010 American black comedy superhero film writen and directed by James Gunn, starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon and Nathan Fillion.
@@genetenz i think the point was more her being the antithesis of the manic-pixie dreamgirl. movies back then would have a girl who comes in for the sole purpose of making the character's life better, and she was on the track to make his life much worse. they just needed a way to get her out of the picture for the message to hit: that he needs to appreciate what he has and love himself before he can truly love again
If you think that's the case then I posit you don't understand superheroes all that well. I don't think james gunn, the guy who wrote an directed this movie would even consider it a true superhero movie.
I disagree this is one of the best origin stories I've ever seen it's funny, realistic, sad, satisfying and brutal. It's a what if a guy who was bullied all of his life and is from a working class background who is out of shape and depressed decided to become a hero then even though he sucked at the starts ends the movie as what many people want to be in this world a underdog hero who saves the girl.
I feel like almost all people miss the point of this ending. The point isn't that Libby died or he and Sara didn't get back together. The point was that, because of "knowing the truth in your heart and following it" when at first his life had only "two perfect moments" devided by nothing but humiliation and pain, in the end he has a wall covered with them.
From my understanding, at first, his perfect moments were just his marriage and that one time he helped a cop to which direction the thief went into and then in the ending he has a room surrounded by alot of perfect moments. Those moments were not for him but for the people he had it with (making Libby's dream of becoming a superhero a reality, him going to his friend's wedding, him saving Sarah, etc.). Libby's drawings showed it to him that finding happiness isn't always about just you. Frank also realized that after saving Sarah that he saved her not for himself, but for her.
This scene is the perfect example of true selflessness, and true selflessness is what I think this movie teaches. Frank realizing that he was never the chosen one, and putting her and her family as the chosen ones is what gets me. Even going as far to put her new husband as a chosen one...Frank was the one who helped all of this happen, and he saved a whole family of good people. But he will never draw attention to that. He will always think of other people before himself. And that...is true selflessness...that is what it means to be a hero. This way of thinking is painful. It hurts yourself. But in the end it is worth it. Living your life selflessly helps everyone around you, and you will die knowing you made an impact on those around you. And those people you made an impact on will hopefully make an impact on their future children. You will die knowing that you started that...
And you know what this level of selflessness gets you? Crying alone in a room with a rabbit, obsessing over your ex-wife and the kids she had with the guy she actually likes.
@@dexdorrey9834 Sure, he obsesses over them, maybe. But cry? How did you even draw to the conclusion that Frank was sad about the outcome? It's clear as day, shown for minutes on end that he was completely and utterly satisfied with how everything ended.

At the very least they shouldn't have killed off Libby, he is partly responsible for her death after all.
It's not about being happy, it's about doing what's right. Frank didn't save Sarah's life for himself, he saved it for her. And despite the apparent connection he had with Boltie, he loved Sarah too much to let her life be ruined forever. Despite being an addict, deep down she was a good person. And although Frank ends up with no one, for him it's better to save the life of the one he loves rather than his own.
@@genetenz That’s fine too. Whatever gets you to do good. He didn’t complain when Sarah ultimately decided to leave him after being saved. He found a way to be okay with it. It doesn’t matter if you helped everyone in the world purely to make yourself feel better, you still did a great thing.
When frank looks at her dead body when putting it in the trunk, you can see the regret frank has of putting Libby in this situation and dying because of him.
i think the wall full of pictures means only that the experience of being crimson bolt changed frank, maybe the whole "adventure" made him understand the value of "normal moments" (maybe the ones he calls "between the panels"). indeed, pictures show stuff like drinking a coffee, or frank with his bunny
the thing that makes me cry over this scenes, is that at the beginning of the movie Frank said that he had only two perfect moments in his life, at the end of the movie we get to see all this perfect moments, when he drank some coffe, him and his best friend having a good time, when a dog greeted him at the park, he at the wedding of his best friend, even the moments with Boltie, Frank maybe lost Sarah at the end, but he learned something beautiful, that life can be full of perfect moments if you know how to look at it, with the movie Bright Burn being in the same universe i wonder if we will ever see more about the crimson bolt or Frank, i hope we do.

This is a real ending to a great superhero movie. His look when he’s staring at all his drawings. So beautiful especially when he tears up looking at Libby’s picture he drew. Amazing.

But to recount whats actually going on, he lost the only woman thats actually ever actually loved him while chasing one that only used him. I agree with that statement except he should have let her go when she decided to leave him the first time. He got his sidekick killed by dragging her over there for his own selfish reasons. Then the ending is gonna pretend like it was all selfless. Libby dieing is indeed on him, I don't know this ending had me puzzled.

While I am aware of the age difference between the two, I was kinda rooting for frank to end up with Libby. They just seem like they woulda made a great pairing. Oh well, the ending was still good and powerful
I think the way Libby behaved made her a pretty doomed character - she got off on the violence way too much to have avoided some sort of retribution, pretty unlucky to catch a bullet the way she did but if you play with fire you end up getting burned.

ok. no one knows what happens to Boltie. i read on a site (i don't remember what site) that james gunn had in mind to make a scene where Frank buries Boltie, but at last director decided that it was useless or too much dark even for this movie. Don't take this for 100% true, as i said i don't remember where i read it. However, i think that Frank never tell Sarah that a girl helped him in his quest for free her, and that is even sadder, no one of Sarah's children has been named Libby.
Am I the only one that Enjoyed this Film more than Kick-Ass? Not saying that Kick Ass was a bad film (I love that movie) but I felt this film had more purpose and meaning plus it was funnier IMO.
And what about Franck isn't he like any man who wants happiness a woman and a family of his own cmon this movie just proves that nice guys finish last and alone that the price of having a good heart in a world where only the dumbest and the evil persons have everything
A lot of people think this ending is sad, but that’s because they still believe in “happy endings”. But real life doesn’t have happy endings. Happiness comes from within
Movies aren't real life and people tend to watch them to ESCAPE how shitty it is. People are entitled to feeling like this was unsatisfying for an unrealitic superhero movie
It's a bittersweet ending to me more so than a sad one. For me, the ending is he did end up getting all these wonderful moments in life but at what cost? As Libby's death still clearly haunts him.

If they made Kick-ass Precisely to the comics, it would have come out looking like this. It was originally meant to be way more dark. Sadly though, through the plot alone they needed way more money and had to make the movie appeal to a wider audience to get enough backing. >: That said; Kick Ass 2 might end up raising the bar considerably! As for Super vs Kick-Ass, I'm still completely unsure which I prefer, if any.
I don't think he is capable of stopping. At best, he measures his deeds now. He clearly understands that good and evil don't exist but truth is where you find it. And yeah, those kids wouldn't be here had he not committed a murder. It was righteous but it was still murder. But Patrick, Trevor, Laura and Joy and Libby's husband and NewLibby were all born out of the graves of Jacques and Bolty. Ethics can be ambiguous as hell. Can't they?
"How it looks, versus how it is, are two totally different things"
I wish more people could realise that.

And no, I don't think he becomes apart of Sarah's life in anyway. The whole uncle frank thing is probably just him drawing pictures like the creep he becomes
I know this is almost a decade old, but this is like the only comment that has some sense. Rainns character sacrificed too much to end up a loner like that, the film did him no justice, yet it tries to justify it as a good thing.
Loved the ending but I agree…he definitely drew those pictures himself lol
@@jenniferjones2289 yeah…kinda creepy! Why did Liv Tyler leave him? Maybe, she should have stayed?
@@RajaMCool I think people that hate the ending never dealt with heartache like Frank. That’s why I liked the ending…it’s not butterflies and rainbows, it’s reality, and I’ve dealt with Frank’s pain before. It’s also why I don’t like sappy happy endings…real life isn’t a movie. Some people have that happy ending because they end up with the one they are supposed to be with and that’s ok. I just think it’s about who you are and where you come from when it comes to liking the ending of this film or not.
@@jenniferjones2289 real life can be harsh. We watch movies to escape from reality. We don’t need to be reminded of how agonizing life can be
Super [OST] - Aftermath And Resolution
ok. no one knows what happens to Boltie. i read on a site (i don't remember what site) that james gunn had in mind to make a scene where Frank buries Boltie, but at last director decided that it was useless or too much dark even for this movie. Don't take this for 100% true, as i said i don't remember where i read it.
However, i think that Frank never tell Sarah that a girl helped him in his quest for free her, and that is even sadder, no one of Sarah's children has been named Libby.
Beautiful
It hasn’t rained this hard in a long time
change the title to "ending scene"
this scene was so hard to find.
do you know where I can find the soundtrack?
this is when he became dwight
Crimson Bolt and Doom Guy has one thing; rabbit 🐇
Good to know that all the people he helped send him something 😉.
"Shut up, Crime." haha xD
Am I the only one that Enjoyed this Film more than Kick-Ass? Not saying that Kick Ass was a bad film (I love that movie) but I felt this film had more purpose and meaning plus it was funnier IMO.
A little messy at times, but so, so good.
I'm still undecided :P
I love a bit of dark humour, yet I loved Kick-Ass.
Ah well...
2:14 Liv Tyler totally quotes an Aerosmith song.
Poor Libby
Is impossible to rate this movie
he really misses libby
i honestly prefer kick ass as a movie. The comic was dark and was really good, but the movie was alot more fun imo.
How is he supposed to fight brightburn?
ship kyptonite
"Shut up crime!" Yes...shut up crime indeed.
And what about Franck isn't he like any man who wants happiness a woman and a family of his own cmon this movie just proves that nice guys finish last and alone that the price of having a good heart in a world where only the dumbest and the evil persons have everything
here's to the crimson bolt... crime
Great movie
Hey can anyone tell me what the song is that's playing?
Does anyone know that song? Please let me know
A lot of people think this ending is sad, but that’s because they still believe in “happy endings”. But real life doesn’t have happy endings. Happiness comes from within
Movies aren't real life and people tend to watch them to ESCAPE how shitty it is. People are entitled to feeling like this was unsatisfying for an unrealitic superhero movie
@@Houndoomgirl77 I’m not attacking your sensibilities, just explaining the ending. Dingus
It's a bittersweet ending to me more so than a sad one. For me, the ending is he did end up getting all these wonderful moments in life but at what cost? As Libby's death still clearly haunts him.

Make the battle scene at the end part please
didn't you see the movie?
This movie was way better than kickass. Kick ass would have been better if they cast it properly. Nick cage was the only good casting choice.
Eh this movie was just sad and kick ass was funny
Why doesn’t Dwight carry people like that at 0:54 on the office
Did he quit being a hero
No.
If they made Kick-ass Precisely to the comics, it would have come out looking like this. It was originally meant to be way more dark. Sadly though, through the plot alone they needed way more money and had to make the movie appeal to a wider audience to get enough backing. >:
That said; Kick Ass 2 might end up raising the bar considerably!
As for Super vs Kick-Ass, I'm still completely unsure which I prefer, if any.
Yeah.... about Kick-Ass 2...
Fucking beautiful
can someone please tell me what that last picture of libby says at 4:06 its been bugging me ever since i saw the movie
@AiSEL IRAl 7 years later and i get my reply thx
@@MTM3016 holy crap lol
@@MTM3016 LOL
como se llama la canción
Did he quit being a hero or he continues because the movie didn’t tell us about his heroism at the end about what happens to it
I don't think he is capable of stopping.
Can't they?
@@GuerillaWarFairness thanks for giving me a important lesson dude I have respect for you after that
I bet he named that rabbit Libby
What’s the matter with him at 1:32
I was lovin this movie till the end. After Libby got killed I almost wanted to stop watching but after finishing the movie I wish I did.
I agree i hate that scene
Worst ending ever. This 4 minutes ruined the entire movie
Why did Frank cry when he saw the drawing of Libby on the wall? So, Sarah's children are meant to change the world?
He misses her and Libby dead
He understands he did the right thing, but I think he realizes what his selflessness cost him.
