    As you were attaching the negative lead to the batterry. I could clearly see that the cable was loose on the baterry negative terminal.

    Why was the fuse missing in the first place?

  • @limatenbrickthree8925
    @limatenbrickthree8925 5 місяців тому +2

    So all you did was put a fuse back in after it was removed... well done.

    The neg terminal is lose. That's the problem.

      THANK YOU! Exactly the same symptoms, checked terminals on recently replaced battery. Negative tight enough for all other services but no longer for starting demand. Very subtle difference. Make sure terminal clamps are TIGHT first! Could save lots of diagnostics!

    Your negative battery cable clamp is too loose...

    Brilliant...fixed mine after installing an after market radio...E1 blew with exactly the same problems...there's even a spare 7.5 fuse in the fuse holder. Many thanks.

    I will say finding your video helped with the same issue we've had with our 2001 Carrera. Spent 400.00 at our local shop and thought it was good to go but the turn key and no start came back. We drive it infrequently. Now I try to once a week but it was two weeks till I last got to drive it to work and back. Had the start issues going to and coming home. Took a lot of attempts and turning the key without cranking for memory reset several times and luckily got it to start. Next night got home from driving my WRX and went to crank the 911 and it worked. Next morning went to drive it to work and no go. After several minutes I gave up. Took CRP cleaner today an blasted the hell out of the fuse box and the ignition key area several times. Also had removed and reseated all the 7.5 amp fuses as well. Turned the key and it worked. Came back a little later and tried again and it did not. Did all three things again and it would not work. Reseated the 7.5 amp fuses again and it started. Looked back now at what all the shop had checked and the alarm/ door lock (central locking system alarm) is the code they could not get to clear. They had cleaned and checked every other connection and checked the ecu box as well. Now when this first happened and once we did get it to run the throttle had no response as well. That's all gone now. It will start and sputter and konk out first time it starts though.
    So I think the fuse is the key. It is not blown but there is a contact issue going on in my opinion. I'm buying 5 and replacing the one for the lock system and save the rest for spares. I hope it works. If not it's find an audi base ignition switch next to replace since these are no longer available. your video is helpful but is not detailing the real issue enough. I found a ton of threads about it on 996 and 997 era 911's and boxsters and it's not uncommon apparently.

    Did you tightened the loose negative battery terminal clamp to fix it or by replacing the 7.5 amp fuse??? I notice it was very loose while the video was rolling.

  • @parteibonza

    Doesn't make sense...why was the fuse gone? I have this problem but I just keep removing the key and trying again. Eventually it cranks over. That's not a fuse issue. Basically, if your troubleshooting skills were worth your salt then you would have checked the fuse box before fuxing around with the code reader. You should have cleaned/tightened those battery terminals as well. This video is worthless and you have wasted all our time. When I find out the true reason the key doesn't start the car I will make a video and send you the link

Thank god I only spent one full night troubleshooting with no luck bc I watched his video then gave it a try 8 hours later and bam!!! My 7.5 fuse was blown and was in a parking lot of grocery store bc I was tinkering with my head unit!! Fuck everyone on here that had talked their shit fkn internet trolling clowns. And thank u genuinely my friend for taking your time to share this issue bc u saved me so much time and money that I do not have was like a blessing. I too screamed soo loud when I popped that new 7.5 fuse in and it turned over. 👏👏👍🤝🤙🙏

    Ours was traced down to the clutch had to be floored really hard while holding the ignition switch in the crank position. There is a switch that verifies that the clutch is depressed, before the engine can start. I. Now have to figure out if it requires replacement or if there is an adjustment

    I have the exact same thing, there is electricity, airco blows, but when I turn the key nothing happens. The fuse is ok, any other thoughts?

    • @alexwiley
      @alexwiley 8 років тому

      +Boudewijn van Heezik The most likely actual problem is that it is the starter since it wears down and will still occasionally start the car. I have no idea how this could be caused by a missing fuse.

    • @corywichman7083
      @corywichman7083 8 років тому

      Check battery voltage.. if it's above 12.0 or so, you should at least hear the click of the starter solenoid.. if you don't hear anything, even a click, and you have enough voltage to at least generate some starter action, it's probably the starter.
