He is good. I was taught the kata a little different. Only different in two places, that was under a school that was affiliated with the Yamaguchi family. Gogen Yamaguchi was studying under Myagi long before Higaonno was born. Most people now do the Kata like Higaonna however I can remember a time when most did it more like the Yamaguchi's.
I was also taught differently as my old school derives from Seiichi Akamine Sensei and his teacher was Seko Higa and Izumigawa who learned directly from Miyagi.
I have not done karate in over 2 years and I am going to my first class since then in 2 days. I was kind of panicking because I did not know if I could do my kata. But I watched this video and it all came back to me. This video helped a lot thank you
I used to do Goju Ryu karate as a little kid, stopped at like orange-green belt if I remember correctly. Now I'm hooked with Bjj since like more than 10 years but from time to time I still mindlessy go back to this Kata. The memories..
I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Goju Ryu. I came up through the children's program so it's different but a legit school as an Adult white to Yellow belt is about 4 to 6 months depending on how much you train per week.
Far too stiff, robotic and rigid. No power and no speed. Those punches and kicks could never hit anyone who was half-awake. This is why karate has become the laughingstock of the martial arts world.
Hi, what’s your style? ITF style Taekwon-Do? Kata is great training helps to improve other areas of training. Take any kata but change the motion and technique for own self.
@@danielharris3180 Don't play coy - I have many years of experience training in a traditional dojo - so I am very aware that this is also how they spend a majority of their time training.
@@danielharris3180 Congratulations on totally missing the point! But as a traditional karate student, I would expect nothing less. Ppl like you is why I decided I needed to train in muay Thai gyms and BJJ schools. Actually spar with resisting partners and not just do a ceremonial dance kicking and punching thin air. You think I was being critical of the dude's stiff and robotic execution of this kata...I was not merely talking about this one single performance of the kata - I am talking about the entire pedagogy of traditional karate.
Hahaha Keep believing this buddy. A kick to the balls bends most people over... Landing on a elbow to the nose is effective enough to end most fights and get away.... I haven't done karate in almost 15 years and I still to this day remember this kata. I really must find a local school where I can get back into it
i go to keiko karate
i reccomend
Same Lucas.
I love how people are criticizing one of the foremost authorities in Goju Ryu in the world today. a 10th Dan and living legend, Morio Higaonna Sensei.

Drake Shihan Might look a little different because he practices the Goji-Ryu that aligns with the IOGKF
You forgot official National treasure of Japan 🇯🇵
It’s the basic nature of a keyboard warrior
We always do this kata at least twice a week. No matter how high your belt is we still do it
This is my favorite kata, my sensei says I do this kata better than all the rest of the katas I learnt+it's easy
T x - nope, it’s not easy to do it well.
This is beautiful! I do Shotokan, but I wouldn’t mind learning this kata.
i learned this kata back in 1986
I remember taking classes for Gōjū-ryū when I was 12. This was the first Kata I learned. Man I'm getting nostalgic lol. I wanna do it again.
SAME!! I totally forgot I knew the whole thing. After like 20 years.

Excellent! Thanks from Texas!!!

I'm teaching myself this kata. Wish me luck.
Find a teacher in real world
perfect form/kata. thanks for the upload
I left a Gojuryukarate dojo for an MMA gym. I currently do BJJ and Muay Thai. However sometimes I do miss this Kata and the Goju ryu karate system.

For the first belt you learn only gekisai kata❓ usually how long does it take to get the first belt❓

Usually about 3 to 6 months. At least at my place of training.

Hai, (he is very young here), Is this Higginona Sensei.?
Yes
Its geek side ich

Why is he doing it so slow? Oh, Uhm, never mind. 😀 Really well done from a Master.
To teach lmao
It’s called a instructional video
Excelente, gracias, OSS
I just do that one kata a million times ⏲ like Bruce Lee said to do.
It took that from jeet kun do and then discarded it.
hmmm. seems like he was off-balance in a couple of stances. some wobbly transitions. but still better than me
He was recovering from knee surgery.
He is Morio higgaona, a living leyend
Remember Bruce Lee
no malisimo dislike
Ok loltard
A jugar lol mejor
Only coz kung fu is better sometimes

Karate kata is not effective training for self defense. This is absolutely a myth traditional karate dojos try and sell to their students.
