Every time I get behind my kit I say to myself, 'Stick to the basics and keep it simple, just play the music.' It helps. You've helped me too, Andrew, by reminding me with your insights why I play. Thank You Sir!
I used to overplay. Now I'm obsessed with "Well if the lyrics are sad, how can we make the guitar & drums sad too?" & any way I can write a song with a stronger identity.
Played for 20 years, 3 years professionally. I still play simple straight 8s or 4s to a metronome almost every day. Master the basics and the rest will come.
Amateurs do it til they get it right. Pros do it til they cant get it wrong. Overkill!!

You just have to keep time, be creative but keep it simple…as others have said, the rest will come but most importantly, enjoy it…!!

Yes sir. I would rather have a highly qualified surgeon stitch up my wound than have a pre med student perform open heart surgery on me.
