    The Battle of Marathon took place in 490 BC during the first Persian invasion of Greece. It was fought between the citizens of Athens, aided by Plataea, and a Persian force commanded by Datis and Artaphernes. The battle was the culmination of the first attempt by Persia, under King Darius I, to subjugate Greece

    Nice video again! Although this time you've made a few mistakes. The Persian army was most likely standing with the shore at their left flank and the Greeks were marching along the shore as well. Miltiades (perhaps purposely) let the centre fall back, baiting the best Persian units to pursue and letting them fall into a trap. Those who could not flee to their boats were pushed towards a swamp, where they died. Sorry for the history lesson :) But overall a really nice video! Looking forward to the next one!

      @@prestons9305 It is quite a common mistake, really. The primary source is Herodotus, and his presentation of these events can be quite misleading sometimes. It requires some further study to present this battle correctly, but I don't blame the author of this video. There are more theories of what the battle actually looked like, and it's quite hard to pick the right one. The one presented in the video is the most frequent, so It must have been an obvious choice for the author.

    The battle of Marathon was not fought on or near the beach. The Greek forces were huddled between two low hills which prevented the Persians to out flank the Greeks and limited their greater number (approx. 25,000) from overwhelming them. Greeks did a wonderful job of exploiting the Persian weakness. Many of the comments refer to the number of Persians at 300,000 and that they drank rivers dry. Both of these are associated with the battle of Thermopylae some years later.

    Why didn't they land at Faliro Bay, just 5-6 km south of Athens, where there is open space to develop their numerous army and attack Athens?
    Why the Atheneans, after their victory sent a runner to the city to announce their victory? What did they try to prevent?
    Why that runner went on foot and not on horseback and followed the route through the mountains and not the easiest route along the coastline?
    The answers to these questions are related and all have a common cause that explains everything.

The Athenian army after winning at Marathon double timed to the city of Athens… an event that served as the basis of modern Marathon Race …. What was nothing mentioned about the Athenian Runner ? Also there should have been mention of the Spartans that was on their way to reinforce the Athenians at Marathon and they reached the next day!!!! But it was a nice video on its own !!!

    • @Hello-ig1px
      @Hello-ig1px Рік тому +1

      Hey, when you come to criticize a video with “facts”, you need to get your facts straight.
      Unbelievable.
      Marathon races weren’t named after the Athenians double timing back to Athens.
      Marathon races were named after the single Athenian who ran back to Athens after this battle, all alone, a single man.
      He ran back to Athens to let the Athenians know that they won the battle and to let them know that the Persians were now heading towards Athens and that they needed to prepare for the defense.
      This single runner died from exhaustion immediately after giving the news.
      Get your facts straight

    • @nibidatreya3504
      @nibidatreya3504 Рік тому

      Pheidippides was dispatched from Marathon to deliver the news of Greek victory to the city of Athens… he was to deliver the following facts:
      1) the Greeks have won
      2) the Persian fleet is approaching the city
      3) because the entire Athenian army was at marathon and the city was defenceless, the women and children of Athens were ordered to commit mass suicide at the sight of the persians … however if Pheidippides deliver the message of Greek victory at marathon before the Persian fleet arrive at marathon the Athenians need not commit mass suicide
      4) the Athenian army is on double time… and is expected to arrive at Athens anytime soon!
      Ps : The runner reached the Athenian city square and died from exhaustion crying VICTORY!
      This is what I have learnt from the history books and classes!! And this is consistent with the content of Lionsberg Cinematic, the videos of which are actually used in some educational institutes to provide audio visuals for students and to make history more interesting! Adios!

    This greatly misrepresents the nature of the battle. The actual battle scenes show the Greeks suffering nearly as many killed as the Persians. It also shows some of the Persian soldiers in metal armor. In fact, the Athenians suffered 192 men killed. This is the number reported by Herodotus, and seems to be quite reliable, unlike some of the other numbers he reports in other battles. The Plataeans would have added a few to this total, but not many. Herodotus lists the Persian dead at 6,200. This puts the casualty ratio at 31:1 in favor of the Greeks, or make it 30:1 for a round number. The Persian infantry did not wear metal armor for the most part. One reason the Greeks were so effective against the Persians at Marathon, as well as later at Thermopylae, Plataea, and Mycale was that the heavily armored Greek hoplite infantry overmatched the Persian lightly armored infantry at close quarters. Wicker shields, lack of body armor, and shorter spears left the Persians at a severe disadvantage against heavy shields (hoplon), metal breastplates, metal helmets, and 9-foot long spears.

      @@Iudex840 I would love to read your alternate sources if you could provide them. The timeline doesn’t support your theory. Athens was simply not torched until ten years after Marathon, when it was evacuated and Xerxes led the invasion. The Aegean was dominated by the Greek fleet throughout this whole period, hence the land invasion.

      @@ramtin5152 خب قراره ابراز خوشحالی کنم که باختیم؟ من چنل های میلیونی مثل invectia رو میبینم و در بخش کامنت هاشون همیشه معقول حرف زده میشه. کسی نمیگه که ایول یونانیا بردن زدن ایرانیا رو ترکوندن بلکه همه تحلیل های خودشون از دلایل برد و باخت رو میگن. شما هم معلومه که تمرکز کردی رو بدگویی ها از ایران وگرنه نبرد حران و پیروزی اشکانیان هم خیلی معروفه و همیشه از پیروزی بزرگ اشکانیان در اینباره گفته شده(توسط غربی ها). پیروزی های ساسانیان هم همینطور که امپراطور روم رو اسیر کردن!
      اگر هرودوت درباره هخامنشیان نمینوشت ما خیلی کمتر از این دوران پرشکوه میدونستیم. بله درسته که اغراق و دروغ هم هست( مثلا همین ماراتون که میگه ۱۹۲ تا یونانی مردن در حالی که ۶۰۰۰ تا ایرانی مردن) ولی پیروزی های ایرانم هست. اتفاقا دو هفته پیش ویدیویی درباره جنگ های ایران و یونان دیدم که یوتیوبر بخوبی شرح داد چطور ایرانی ها به اکثر خواسته هاشون در یونان رسیدن و ۶۰-۷۰٪ براشون جواب داد. همچنین اگر از چشم هخامنشی ها نگاه کنیم مشکلات خیلی مهم تری از یونان بود که حل شدن و مسئله یونان در دید کلی خیلی کوچک تر از اونی که فکر میکنیم هست. اون ویدیو رو لینک میکنم حتما. حرف پایانیم این هست که خوشبختانه دید مردم غرب خیلی معقول تر شده. علاقه و کنجکاوی افراد نسبت به حکومت های دیگه خیلی بیشتر از قبل هست چون یونان و روم باستان با کمال عظمتشون برخلاف گذشته باعث نمیشن که مخاطب ها تک بعدی و غربی به مسائل نگاه کنن. در واقع یونانی ها از همون زمان هرودوت به ایران احترام میزاشتن(همراه دشمنی).
      خلاصه حرفم اینه که شما اگر دیدی کسی مسخره مسکنه یا ضعیف جلوه میده چندان اهمیتی نده که از اون شخص بزرگتر مورخ ها هستن و هیچوقت نگفتن که ایرانی ها حکومت و مردم خاصی نبودن. بلکه برعکس همیشه بهش توجه داشتن. این رو هم از یاد نبریم که یونانی ها هم مثل ایرانی ها هندو اروپایی بودن و از یک نیا. گفته میشه ایرانی ها و یونانی های باستان بدون اینکه از زبان هم اطلاع داشته باشن ۵۰٪ حرف های هم رو میفهمیدن. پس چندان خودت رو از یونانی ها دور ندون که حتی ضرب المثلی دارن برای کسی که فن خاصی بلده و اونم اینه که "طرف فارسی بلده" یعنی نماد اینکه طرف حرفه خاصی رو بلده فارسی بلد بودنش هست. این رو یک یونانی در بخش کامنت ها گذاشته بود و من دیدم.
