- In this video I buy a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser from Tony aka EV Carnage. No UA-camrs were hurt during the making of this handshake.
Had to wind this back, I thought, did Geoff just say 'The heats... the heats were seated' 🤣

First time I saw the PT Cruiser was when it was a prototype at a motorshow and everyone said build it build it so they did. Then a bunch of motoring press tarts said Oooo thats nasty and the public like little lost sheep started saying Oooo thats nasty and rest is history ..... I was one of those who said build it build it and I like them , there I've said it
Very funny video, good chemistry between you guys, and look out wheeler dealers. I fancy all the chrome, turns the Cruiser into a miniature Cord. 😂

Been there in 2015 with an 02 2lrtr petrol, replaced all the suspension, all the bushings drop links along with brake disks & drums. Had it two years before scraping it.
The biggest downfall was the transverse engine, if only they had made them rear wheel drive.
The wife absolutely loves them and still misses it today and I still admire the body shape.
What I like about this channel is where we do get "Geoff buys cars" or the "try on a new set of shoes for a while" as you put it Geoff.
So I do hope we get a few of these sprinkled in, good ones such as the 206 track car and the Volvo track car (Which we still need to see Lee / MacMaster take around Donnington Park, in a proper manual!)

I have a 2004 and owned mine for about 10 years and it has 250000 miles on it and still going.
I like the PT. Maybe the last car made with cool looking wheel arches.

I drove one of these when they first came out, it was a hire car in Florida. Drove it for a week and loved it.😀😀👍👍
Ive had 4 of them ! love 'em. First one we bought for £500. Checked the oil, checked the water - and drove it to Antwerp for the weekend :-) Never paid more than £500 but I was just lucky. Enjoy it matey

I love the the PT cruisers. Being a Rover man since 1979 & my current one getting tired & needing many jobs doing it maybe time to go for something equally old but not as worn out

@@stephenbirchall941 think the key here is that he’s not anti ev he’s anti modern car and I have to agree with that. Peak cars are currently from the 2000s as they can be brought cheap, they drive nicely, you can work on them still and there are no stupid touch screens.
Always liked the old school looks on the PT but especially on the prowler.

I had one of those on a W plate.. apparently one of the first 4 imported into the UK. Absolutely loved it and was gutted when the harsh winter of 2009/10 froze the engine leading to total engine failure on the m50...
"Buy a car that everyone hates" is why 4 years ago, I bought its close cousin, a 2000 Chrysler Neon. $700AU purchase price, $1200AU final on the road price. Still have it, and drive it regularly.

Friend had one. He loved it until the clutch went. Replacement was more than the car was worth - engine out job apparently 😢
I had a 2002 PT with manual transmission, for my winter car, it served me very well! 🙂
I had the PT GT (turbo). It was overall an outstanding machine with the sole exception that the rear suspension was crap. In the 6 years I drove mine, I had to replace struts twice and springs once.
It looks like the car was cared for nicely. I remember when they hits the lots in America people were paying over the sticker price to be the first ones on the road with a PT Cruiser. BTW, IIRC the "PT" stands for "personal transport", or something like that.
Should have got the diesel one as they are fantastic, great styling though especially with a violin case on the back seat 😂
A friend bought one new here in OZ to our utter confusion when our crowd with young kids were buying Honda CRV's and Rav4's. It's the 'rat with a gold front tooth look' but after living with the appalling build quality and fuel consumption they scraped the passenger door mirror. Just $1750 to replace... unfortunately sold for almost nothing when they left the country. I do believe it had a redeeming feature; their then baby didn't sleep well and it was used to drive the child around for hours until it dropped off at night. Nice one Geoff, awaiting 'I bought a Trabant and loved it'😍

I had two from new 2.2 D (Merc Engine)
As the rear seats are removable they were THE snazziest vans / dog /camping cars ever.

I'm in America and I also own the 2004 Cruiser so I found your video interesting! Mine IS bad on fuel! I hated them too until the day I was desperate lol. I've actually had it for 10 years now. After a few years of nothing but trouble it's finally behaving. Which is good because it will be the last car I'll ever own!
Only issue with them now is, Its hard to find new parts for them and with me I've gone to ebay and junk yards looking for parts for mine.
I'm pretty sure I own a pair of pants that match that teatowel...
Also, that Beaver van made me giggle because I'm an overgrown child

Had one, Loved it, wish I had never sold it.
Back in the day you could get a PT on Motability with near zero down payment....sort of current EV sales 'technique' (they couldn't sell them and fleet management wasn't interested so we'll give them to the disabled and similar)
added - Very luxurious inside and a smooth ride....but that wasn't enough to take one [even with the Motability discount.....I mean option
General, get yourself a good stock of spark plugs and leads. You'll be changing them monthly.
I'd love to be stood standing next to you when you find out how much the road tax will set you back. The experience is akin to a swift kick in the sphereoids.
However, once you've recovered from those ailments you'll love the thing. It's roomy, comfy and it's party trick is it turns into a van you can move a 3 bedroom house with in one trip. 👍
I absolutely love the P/T Cruiser. Looks wise anyway. It is the ONLY 4 door car I actually like the looks of. It's a beautiful car. But sadly that's where it ends. I'm a recently retired mechanic. I've worked on quite a few of them. Most repairs having anything to do with the engine require the engine, transmission, and front subframe to be removed. From the bottom. Unless it has just been done, and that is unlikely, replace the timing belt. It's an engine out job, and will cost about $1200 USD in a shop. Good that it's not a turbo. They fail rather quickly, and take the rest of the engine with them. Also good that it's a manual.
I have a 1972 Ford Pinto 2 door wagon with woodgrain sides. Sort of a copper color, like a new U.S. penny, except for the woodgrain and chrome trim around the edges of the woodgrain. It is a manual (carbureted) and has an 8 track player in it. Aluminum 5 slotted 13" wheels with whitewall tires. Unlike the P/T, it is rear wheel drive, and super easy to work on.

Next time Tony needs a lift to the Train Station after you play "Top Trumps" you can do it in your Black Cab. All it needs is the orange sign and a slidy perspex panel behind the front seats. It's obvious to me that it was a black cab used at The London Stadium, for the Olympics opening ceremony, it even had the Team GB towel in the back. LOL

All the petrol enginea were Chrysler, the 1.6 was designed with rover and the same engine that went into the early BMW minis. The 2.0 and 2.4 were a generation evolution from the 2.2/2.5.
The 2.4 turbo variant of these was the same engine in the SRT4, slightly detuned bwcause they had to change the intake slightly to fit the PTs engine bay and they were worried about cooling...but they take most of the SRT4's mods well. Can be quite the sleeper if done right

If you need a clutch I have one obviously unused 'Chrysler part' it comes as a unit just unbolts from the flywheel and drops down didn't ever use it on the neon I once had
The front fog lights on your PTC are on permanently, well the warning light is! You will find the bulbs/fuse are missing. The switch unit has failed, common fault but the the European spec switch is no longer available new. Part of the pipework for your air conditioning system is missing? Limited is Chrysler speak for Ghia, this was the top spec, with discs brakes all round, lower models had rear drums. If you need parts speak to the boys down at The PT Company, if you can still get it they stock it. If the alarm siren attached to the N/S inner wing is still there/connected pull the plug off and just put it in a plastic bag. The siren is a sealed unit and the rechargeable batteries contained within on our car went up in smoke!
Yep. Those fog lamps on mine would come on on their own, even when the vehicle was parked and locked up. Like many other owners, I pulled the fuse.

i had one of these,i seen it in a garage and traded in a nice 3 series bmw for it!! had it for 3 months as it was awful so sold it and bought a panama yellow volvo s40 T4

Yes! I hired one in the USA many years ago and even in their huge car-parks it was a total pain.

Yes. I own both a PT Cruiser and a four-door Dodge Dakota mid-size pickup truck (lorry for you folks.) The Dodge turns much tighter despite being probably 35 percent longer.

We have had 3 of them here in Canada and have put 600,000 Klms on them. If it wasn't for rust because we salt our roads they would all still be running. Great car.
Never really liked them back in the day. But now, comparing it to some of the modern crap, it's at least got some character. I'm also liking the black. Be interesting to see how you sticker it.

In North America these came with several versions of the P.T Cruiser base non turbo 2.4 then the quick low -mid 7 second 0-60 and mid 15's in the 1/4 mile 2.4 Turbo a 180 hp came in limited etc..But the GT had 215 hp and later models had 230 hp..Low 6 sec 0-60 and mid 14 sec 1/4 mile times,especially good for the times 2000's..Times could be drastically reduced with better driving as these were magazine times and I have seen a lot quicker,but nonetheless.
I bought and sold tons of these,some people owned two of these at the same time for the husband and wife..They were reliable but a lot of 2nd,3rd etc owners didn't maintain them and then they complained a lot online and people started to think they were not good..after 160,000 miles of abuse,odd people are oh well..

Partner has a 2.4 petrol automatic. It guzzles fuel and the tax is ridiculous, but she loves it.

I had a bright yellow one. Be careful going round corners, I nearly ended up in a ditch.
I read that many garages won't do clutch replacement on these cars because it's more hassle than it's worth!

Your multi function switch is knackered which means your front fog lights are on. You will have a flat battery. It’s an easy fix if you look on you tube
I think go with the chrome. There is no limit.... Ya need more chrome than a cylon... Ya have to out-chrome a cylon (but you'd need a night rider red led thing going on at the front 🤣)

PT Looser is what we call them here In Canada. I never hated them or liked them. Not a mini van not a compact not retro 30's not a sport, they are just what they are goofy

I've tried everything except a dealership which cost a $ortune, so there she sits with both back tires flat & a dead battery! 😢
