- For me this was too much, but I do have the Boom Racig OD ring and pinion in there so that may be some of the issues. Turns great!! Links below

Another nice mod review! Men! Your channel is an encyclopedia for mods! Thanks you and I will keep watching.
My TGH Overdrive gears are awesome! They work great!
Great video as always. Very informative 👍
Thank you for the heads up on the Capra overdrive gears!! Clicked on to supershafty, and there they were back in stock!! Thank you for all you do helping everyone out!! I have the mip driveshafts, rear lowering mount, and just ordered the overdrive gears. Love your rims!! Where can I purchase them, and what size? I do not want to buy just any beadlocks, because of the clearance around the portals. Great vid bro!!
Try taking out the boom od put back the stock. Just try the thg od only.
I love my tgh overdrive in my capra
Great video Joe! Looks like with that much OD the front is slipping more on the climb due to it trying to drag the rear up. I would say try again with just the portal OD and see what you think. I would say it hurt the performance more then helped.
Crazy how much faster those front wheels are with OD gears ! 👍👍
2 sets. with just the team garage hack they aren't that much.
Take out the boom OD. I run these gears with stock diff and love it.
I like the blue tape on the wheels to show there difference. Big overdrive difference.
I'd say your real close on that 40%.
It definitely help on ascending/descending and turning but horrible on side hilling.
Sand and loose Sandy climbs is sucky with overdrive axles too... the rig just tends to dig down.
I think the 12% in the enduro is perfect. I’d say 20 would be max I’d like personally.
If you put stock gears back in the front diff you might find the sweet spot!
Have you tried Treal HD Steel Gear Set Overdrive Differential Gear Helical for Redcat Gen 8? It says it increases speed but I dont really want that.
Dont you have to do the same to the rear tho? Ive always been told 4x4s need matching gear ratios
I love the look of the Capra BUT don't crawl. Like a bit of speed for dirt/gravel/grass and concrete. Think I have just found the model to get, with these gears front and rear. Any feedback or info on this idea would be great guys
Last question are u running stock drive shafts? Don’t think I have seen anything on switching them out? Are the still straight?
Yeah stock shafts and so far no need to change them.
What % are the Boom and HR OD gears? Seen that the new Axial ones are 12% . You think they would make that much difference if just talking ring an pinion OD? Just put the portal OD in last night and havent drove it yet. Waiting on VP axles and have a funny feeling they will under drive the rear or at least give that option!
John Bray just the ring and pinion from Boom didn’t do hardly anything at all by themselves.
Try taking the boom racing out of the ring an pinion
Just wondering your Capra is running the 1.9s with the longer rod ends still correct?
Yep still in there.
I love my TGH gears but I crawl comp with my capra 30% or more OD is not ment for trail trucks
I couldn’t talk myself into a lot of overdrive so I just got the hot racing overdrive.... maybe I’ll go more someday 🤷🏼♂️
Justin Wood I’ve got that ordered too.
Looks like there is some overdrive in stock gearing. The turning is awesome with the new gears
Tennessee Jimmy no he already had overdrive gears in it , then called it “stock”
@@northsandiegorc3276 looked about right b4 after would be great in some instances.
Tennessee Jimmy yeah would have liked to see what the actual “stock” turning was, but I know for a fact that 27t ring gears is about 11-12% overdrive over the 30t therefore there was a difference over stock.
I thought the dig was to make it turn.
Speaking of dig, couldn't you throw the dig in free wheel on a side hill? I would like to see you try that.
you could try to run a larger tire in the back and maybe a smaller tire in the front to balance the overdrive a bit better.
I had heard good things about those gears...
I think you need to re-test with the stock front ring and pinion back in. It alone is 11% or 12% yeah? I know you don't think it made a difference but all totalled up its seems a lot.. but your truck your choice mate.
Thanks for showing us though.
Cheers 👍
Mick D the reason just the gears didn’t make a difference is the 10% drops to 5% with the portal reduction of 2-1 it wasn’t noticeable at all before the TGH install. But I do need to put the stock ring and pinion back in. I’ve also got the 13/22 Hot Racing gears ok the way. The TGH is 15/20.
@@ExocagedRC I wasn't doubting that you didn't notice any real effect of gears mate. You know your stuff.
And clearly I've missed the portal gear factor when quoting 11%.
Look forward to further footage.
Cheers mate 👍
Mick D I think what I’ll do is put stock ring and pinion back in and run a 3way test. Between all of them.
@@ExocagedRC cool I look 4ward , I want know ok to use HR o.d , reg trail crawling
@@ExocagedRC do you know what the percentage is going to be with hot racing gear set?
for you , he best one is capra or super ligth
Man thats to much od but the turning is killer for sure
Do you notice a difference running those tire that direction.
silentjde no difference for me. I just wanted to wear the backsides of the tires a bit to match the front
Do you know what I REALLY need to know and how to modify it on my Capra?
1. I need to know how to get to the motor, electronics and such.
2. After there I want to permanently defeat the DIG feature!!!!
I don't use it, I don't need it, and it has proven unacceptably problematic which I feared the day I learned of the details of the RTR Axial Capra. Thank you.
Douglas Elliott I take the belly out, then remove the trans 4 bolts at the bottom. You’ll have to unplug the dig servo and then you can install a spacer to lock the dig into drive. I got the kit when it came out, did the RTR come with the spacer to lock the dig out?
@@ExocagedRC NO!
What about just unplugging the servo lead or something to that nature? I got a 200sqft bedroom in which I do my repairs. And even less patience with gizmo bullshit I didn't ask for or need. Axial should have left it to the consumer whether they wanted a feature valued primarily to competition minded demographic who probably prefer building there own to begin with.
too bad we can't have an overdrive that is switchable, turn it on and off, to work in conjunction with the dig free wheel or locked up. Now that would be making things complicated.. and some complain that a full option TRX-4 is overly complicated..lol
Terra Quest RC yeah I like the selectable diffs in the trx4 trucks. Should have an Optimus 3 first video up Friday
Couldn't you mix the stock and tgh gears to adjust the OD
no. cant adjust gears. I am very pleased with just team garage hack gears alone. That should be another vid. Because this setup seems excessive.
Yeah they won’t mix. I’m going to remove the ring and pinion and try again. This was just too much.
Well...can't say you're not loaded with enough options ie; front/rear steering, overdrive front axle AND Dig. Hahaha
Partial-Dig is a good word for it.
I watched the rotation clip at .25 play back I'd say 2:1 front:rear
it's 36% od for just portal gears.
Not 2:1...front had 8 rotations, to the rear's 5 rotations, which would equate to 1.6:1.
I would suggest trying something - remove the Boom Racing OD gears from the front, and put the stock gears back in. With the TGH portal OD gears, the front-to-rear ratio should be 1.36:1. However, work the TGH OD portal gears, and the Boom Racing OD gears in the front, you've currently for a 1.6:1 ratio...WAY too much.
Robb Ryan 1.6 would be less overdrive and closer to the stock 2-1.
@@ExocagedRC I'm not referring to any output ratios...only a front vs rear ratio. Isn't 'stock' a 12% OD? At least that's what I believed Axial claims. Thus, comparing front to rear, stock would be 1.12:1, while the TGH would be 1.36:1 (ie. 36% OD). With both TGH & Boom Racing gears, based on 8 rotations front, against 5 rotations rear, that's 1.6:1. Again, this had nothing to do with gear ratio...only front vs rear rotations.
Robb Ryan ah ok. I got what you’re saying. I do plan to take out the boom gears and try again. I’ve also got the Hot Racing 13/22 gears on the way so I’ll probably just go with a straight test between the Stock, TGH and HR gears just to see the differences. Should have the first of the Optimus 3 build Friday and in all honesty I’m kinda testing to see what I want in that one using the Capra as the test mule. I know I sure don’t want both Boom and TGH together! LoL.
@@ExocagedRC I believe TGH also just released a hardened steel version of the stock gears. I'm thinking of ordering them for the rear of the first Capra (since I already have the TGH OD up front). If they work well, I might order another set of each (std TGH for rear, OD TGH for front) for the 3rd Capra (yes, you read that right...eventually, I'll have 3 Capras...or, is that Capri???).
Robb Ryan LoL yep Caprisons!! LoL I bought a whole kit because it was cheaper than buying the driveline separate for this project.
Turns better because it almost acts as a DIG. Not sure the slide on the side slope is worth it. Maybe just a little less overdrive. It seems to be struggling more to pull itself up compared to your other vids
Garage hack gears alone are 36%
Hello
should be 35% difference
Way too much OD... Gets to the point its reducing performance not adding.
Way too much overdrive, they should have made under drive gears for the rear and left stock front
Supershafty’s site right now is bullshit
