I attended the Miami Automotive Expo today and I was pleasantly surprised by the Lincoln Continental. It exceeded all the criteria that I have for a luxury sedan and I would be more than happy to own one. People tended to find the door handle treatment polarizing but I quite liked it. It's such a unique approach that lends itself to the design in the same way a belt buckle lends itself to a belt. I actually like the fact that the Continental has subdued styling. It looks classy and not overbearing. It epitomizes the "stealth wealth" philosophy. Additionally, I spoke with a Lincoln representative. He stated that the Continental is not being phased out in the U.S. for now and there will be a suicide door version created in 2020. Long live Lincoln, and this is coming from a teenager!
I thought you said in a previous video that the new camry's are crap. So what is it?
First the CVT transmission in a Prius is nothing like a all gas CVT transmission.
Second, I am not sure if I just got bad luck on Toyotas but I've had 2 Toyotas with major problems. A Camry with serious oil consumption, I like to call that one Valdez for the Exon Valdez oil spill. The other was a Corolla with transmission failures, yes 2 failures both straight from Toyota. Never again with another Toyota!
Palillo maybe it's the newer models ?
But generally Toyota have great reliability over the years
Maybe they getting complacent or saving money these days
@@coasteyscoasteys4150 not sure but it was a 2010 Camry and a 2007 Corolla.
We bought a brand new 2015 Sienna limited and it had problems after about a week of owning it. The rear sunroof kept popping really loud when going around corners. The dealer told us they would have to replace the entire sunroof, which involves taking out the headliner and that equals more rattles after some underpaid guy breaks half of the retainers. Next, the steering wheel controls illumination would flicker at night, driving us nuts! Dealer said they would need to disassemble the steering wheel and column to fix it. Next, the subwoofer is mounted in the rear lift gate and would rattle constantly. The dealer said there wasn’t a fix for this. What? 48k for a vehicle, it should be perfect! I’m not convinced new Toyota’s are any better than anything else.
I've had oil problems with older Toyotas usually valve cover gasket issues caused this. Going through one now
Did you buy new?
Thanks for the video.
Good info! Thanks!!
I have a 2014 subaru legacy with a cvt transmission. Ive never had any issues. Almost at 200k miles.
Subaru has one of the best CVTs , he just hates anything that's not from Toyota haha
Yeah, he's misinformed there.
Still you need to sell it and get s toyota with cvt 😂
@Al Pacino Nope. Just regular oil changes
Spencz- agree. Scotty hates Subarus and that is very sad.
Hey Scotty can you do a video talking about Toyota 4runners old vs new please and thank you
The new ones are just as good as the older ones, Toyota has done a really good job keeping the 4runner to it's original purpose instead of making it a glorified street princess.
+The limited Is it true that many arguments were had inside toyoyo about the name 4runner, due to the obvious "foreskinner" references?
I have a 2018 4Runner. It's old school and I love it. It is an old design thus Toyota has worked out all of the bugs. The big 3 wait until they get a design that works and then change it.
Scotty says they're both the best Suv's in the world. Next.
Love the videos; so informative and so smart.
I drive an Alfa Romeo Gt and you have no idea what you're talking about, 224.000km and not a problem, plus the sansation of driving it is priceless.... Something that you cant get from a Toyota, Honda etc
Subaru doesn't have many reported incidents. But some do complain of aged cvt's having some jerky response when coming to a stop. This is also something that is noted on Honda CVT's. Nissan has the worst track record for CVT's and there is a class action apparently. Toyota CVT's... couldn't find anything! That is something I already knew, they have a great CVT. When getting a subaru, aim for a 2.0 naturally aspirated, those last nearly forever. However, the FB20 does have some issues with the oil seal not working right. While the FA20 does not have this issue, and the FB20 is based on it. It shows that they tried to trim some costs, this means it's likely related to piston redesign. EJ20 naturally aspirated are great too. turbo's wear any engine sooner.
FB25 is a rock. no reported engine issues in 8 years of its life. the fb 20 is a work in progress...
I did notice the number of issues with the FB25 were smaller. But many of those where similar oil burn in earlier FB25's. In fact, 2011 FB25 to 2015 have issues reported with increased oil consumption. There is even a well written forum post out there on how to get Subaru to check it, and eventually replace the oil consuming FB20 or 25 varients. To point out though, the 2015 FB25 only impacts ones with manual transmissions on the Forester. I didn't see any updates after 2015.
Blaze Townsend do u work for Subaru? Your opinion seems bias, not factual.
Factually, Subaru is currently involved in multiple class action lawsuits for everything from headgaskets, oil burning & complete engine failure. They *generally* are not that reliable.
Hmm, I am sure I mentioned that. Also, the head gasket failures was due to the EJ25's. not the newer FB's which are related to oil rings. There is no action against any of their transmissions. The EJ25's failure was due to the increased bore. This meant that there was less surface area for a gasket to seal. This very problem is why blow by happens on other inline 4 engines, like the fords ecotech, this causes exhaust gases to cross over to neighboring cylinders, normally the middle two in the ford example, not enough surface area because of the more compact design in this case. and not the only example to be had. The EJ25 was modified from the same body, just honed for the increased size. The main body did not differ from more reliable engines like the EJ18, EJ20, EJ22 where many of those don't die because of the engine or gasket failures. Now I say this as an engineer, not as a technician for subaru. I am absolutely intrigued by all engine designs. Some are boring, still used designs, like that from GM's lineup. Some update and improve on designs. If talking about subaru, they dealt with allot of engineering challenges that came up during the EJ series. Especially the EJ25. However, in their prusuit, they came across other technical details that were likely related to cost saving design measures. Currently, there are no class actions on subaru CVT's due to failure. Complaints on jerkiness when coming to a stop, and a few on oil leaks. But Nissan's CVT does have a class action, and that was the worst designed CVT I ever saw. Still good in concept, but failure none the less. Toyota on the other hand... I couldn't find ANYTHING on CVT failures. On top of that, I am thrilled with the design of their Prius CVT transmissions. Using a gear based CVT instead of the belt driven ones you commonly see, and how it works, and how it puts two power sources together to achieve power to the wheel. That is amazing! I am not thrilled with the general lack of development of the engine, but they are still well ahead of development verse many car makers. Subaru actually achieves, even with AWD, better gas efficiency than similar weight cars in the class that are only 2wd. There are sacrifices, and as a engineer, I love to see these successes and failures. Failure to a common, I need to get to work type, may be seen as problem. I see it as a hurdle. Subaru's are reliable, but you need to drop the turbo, drop the engine displacement, we live in cities, and a 2.0 and a 2.5 will both still go 65 with ease. Hell, I would drive it with a 1.6. It's the same engine, more surface area for sealing, higher durability in the cylinder walls, less likely to warp, stronger pistons, and no longer sold in the USA, but is sold in europe. I could buy it, ship it here, replace the fb20 or fb2.5, and be happier I got a stronger part. I would very much buy a toyota. But I also am not going to listen to hearsay alone.
Honda CVT is Garbage...

@@heathcox1286 Unless it's a Crown Vic I'd avoid used police cars. They are using challengers and Explorers now which aren't nearly as reliable.
It doesn't matter the brand, they all make good ones and bad ones. Something with a small block in Chevrolet, ford or dodge (watch the automatic transmissions in them) should be good. Maybe an older f series with a 300ci inline six with a manual trans. More modern stuff, idk about but anything used commonly in a fleet would be a wise choice as companies are looking to cut costs in maintenance. Most importantly do your homework on the topic and avoid stuff plagued by problems.

I bought a 2017 cross trek last year. I hope Scotty is wrong about Subaru cvt’s
Ruben D Marmolejos just gonna keep taking it to the dealership every 5k miles.
Yeah, I think the newer Subaru CVTs are actually better. They had several years where the CVT was absolute trash, but I believe they have made lots of improvements in the newer gen cars. Personally, I'm not a fan of any CVT as they often feel like they are sluggish to respond to any type of throttle -- however, I'll take a Subaru CVT over a Dodge automatic any day. Really can't wait to get rid of my Dodge -- the transmission has always been very rough shifting in that car from day one.
The Subaru CVTs haven't been known for causing issues. Some people didn't like the way they "shifted" in the earlier ones but, but they've never been known for detrimental failure.

My family has had good reliability from buicks over the years (the best was an early 90s, I think), any opinion, are they still good or are all GMs the same. Thanks
Up to the early 2000s gm made really solid vehicles for the most part. In 03-05 or so everything started getting electronic and computer controlled. In every GM I've driven (oldest was an 01) the electronic stuff was the weakest point. The radio would mess up, or the lights wouldn't always work right, or the digital dash would go out. My theory is that the reason gm went downhill so badly is because everything is computer controlled now, and gm were never very good at that.
GM is all my family ever bought, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, - they were the best in there day, now the 1 Chevy we have is 2012, always something, blown 3.6 Litre at 55k on V-6 Malibu, it's fast only thing good about it. Always a ton of minor things that turn into a laundry list. The check engine light being on is standard with any GM product of today, I'm waiting for my check engine bulb to blow.
Hey great channel Scotty! Question about my 13 Toyota Tacoma 4.0. It had an automatic transmission that's sealed. I have 75k miles on the truck and was thinking of doing a fluid change. I know I have to drop the pan to access the filter and was wondering if it's as simple as it seems. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have done all work on my vehicles myself but I'm a little hesitant on doing this. Is it wiser to just bring it to the stealership and have them do it. Very informative channel and I wait to see what you say next!

That's really young yet. I hope any car would clear that with no problems. I'm at 256k in a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Original trans with no work done. Replaced oil, fluids, filters, MAF, front wheel hubs, rear bearings, bulbs, tires, brakes, rotors, and wiper blades. This car has needed NOTHING major. Waiting for it to die. It won't. And I don't drive it lightly. Oh and it's known for transmission issues since it's the weakest link. Still waiting... To make it worse, I hit a deer at 85mph and fixed it all with a crowbar and a glove(to pad the pivot point from more dents) that was last year
Forgot plugs and wires.. and actually it hit 257k after work today. Things last when you treat them right, though I must admit others have a better advantage out of the gate
Love this guy. He says it like it is.
Hey Scotty, can you please do a video on the newest Subarus. Are they any reliable, especially the wrx/sti. Thank you!
Scotty idc what you say I’m buying my mom the New 2019 3 Series 4 cyl Twin Turbo and it’s luxurious with UMPH and I’m dead serious.
Why the hell would anyone get an old lady a car with I drive screen controls. When did BMW ever make a 4 cylinder or a reliable engine for that matter?
Omar Tinoco well for first my mom can drive she’s not that old and second I know she’s not gonna put any miles on the car only thing she does is she drives up to the store and back to the house and that’s it 😂😂 the car is user friendly
Just to add on to what Scotty said about cvts and Toyota, Honda CVT is great too. Toyota and Honda are some of the only manufacturers to make their own CVT transmissions and Honda has been using them in ATVs and snowmobiles longer than Toyota has in cars. Different beasts to tame but it is part of the reason Honda hasn't had any issues in the 10th gen civics transmissions which have CVT. (Possibly even the accord CVT but I wasn't in the market for an accord so I didn't even check into that) They're pretty peppy too, I have one myself, not a lot of lag either.
Jackie Daniels My 2014 Accord Sport has 131,000 miles with a CVT. Still runs and drives like new as it should
DevilsNachoz why's that?
*_•reshirm•_* I've heard CVT on the CRV is underpowered but other than that they're great.
I've asked people who have the 9th gen accord cvt up to 150k. No one has had a problem with the cvt
I bought a 2016 Mazda 3 a year ago and love it . Great drive and no problems. You mentioned the problem with skyactiv engines and would like to know more about what you think. Thanks.
Rocking a 2018 Camry for my daily. Smooth, gets great mileage, and i know when I turn it on every morning it will always work the same.
LightningBlueMeanie any problems so far ?
That's not true the subaru cvt is one of the best cvts in the industry now
That's like saying you build the best spaghetti homes. It doesn't make a fck, I'm not buying it.
@@thepincushionman7063 you know what you said makes no sense right. So just your research and go on your way cause the only cvt scotty will certificate comes from Toyota there are other companies
T as in tremendous

You must be in the 50s ore have no feeling for what a real car is. No real car guy will drive daily in a toyota.nothing special.
@@vasme973 this comment is so cringe
Robert Loggia, remember family guy
You should buy one if you're an old person who doesn't like having fun
Vas Me most stupid thing I’ve read
You may have of just saved my finances with your videos, cheers
Hey Scotty! Would a 1990 Celica gt manual be a good first project car? I’m checking one out, it doesn’t Star and the owners have no idea what’s wrong with it. I’ve completely restored a dirt bike before and that’s the experience I have. Thanks!
The Mercedes E-class is a very reliable vehicle from almost every year.
I had 2....nothing but problems. Finally bought a Lexus and nothing but happiness since.
I live in europe, there is a reason why almost every taxi is an e class, my previous 2015 e220 clocked in 550k kilometers NO problems at all.
mkkeable ikr, I’m from Europe too and almost all taxis are Mercedes.
@@roy6672 yeah e class or passat
@@mkkeable It's because it's in Europe and they don't like Japanese cars. Supporting European car makers is more important to them than reliability. Clearly, the price to buy parts and maintain a Mercedes in Europe is also less there than in USA.
Team camry for life 😜
They are boring. I dont even know if they sell them in Europe. Toyota its like 15 years behind in quality then the German cars.
@Christopher Llamas I'm a woman lol 😂
@Christopher Llamas lol its okay 😉
Great video sir.
I need help Mr. Kilmer. I wanna ask what are the specific cars using in-line fuel pump?
