We had similar thoughts after spending last week in that "suite". We liked some of the updates they made to the room, but there were a few negatives we didn't expect in a Sky class suite. We'll be posting our review video tomorrow with tips for folks that stay in that cabin type in future to hopefully help them better prepare to stay in a smaller than expected space with very little storage for a family. P.S. Don't set the thermostat controls to "Sleep" mode - it will turn off the AC in your cabin! Set it to "Evening" and use the lightbulb symbols on the wall unit or the app on your phone to turn the lights completely off. We hope you enjoy the suite sundeck, Coastal Kitchen, and other suite amenities and the ship overall. We LOVED the destination elevators, the Aquadome Market, and the seating areas off the jogging track on deck 5!
@@royalshenanigansusa where is your review video? We are considering booking side by side of these family suites 1 for the adults 1 for our 2 kids, thoughts on this setup?
Hi! Our review video is here: ua-cam.com/video/JnY2kNy65U0/v-deo.htmlsi=Mx7-xLTNmm7vpXEJ Two rooms would definitely give you more space and storage to work with and two bathrooms are always great! Don’t know how old your kids are and we aren’t sure if they have any connecting cabins in that category. If the rooms are next to each other or close by that would probably work and give you some privacy also, but it would also be very expensive. Watch the review video and see if you agree or disagree with some of the challenges we had with this suite. You may be able to make it work for your family or be comfortable booking them in your side-by-side scenario.
@@royalshenanigansusa Thanks for this. We were looking at this config but have decided to do the Star Loft Suite. Our kids are 10 & 6 and would be fine side by side , just seems like it will be nicer to be in the suite area and have ocean balcony.
We hope you love the Grove area (and enjoy the Loft suite, too!). Our son really missed the ocean facing balcony with Surfside. He loves reading on the balcony. The Grove suite sundeck area was really nice and never felt crowded. The food was really good and the items they put out changed daily. If you order from the bar in the sundeck area, just like the suite lounge, beer, wine and soda are included from 11am-11pm for Sky class guests (and Star class can drink whatever they want whenever they want). Have a great trip! 😊
The room service fees are included for Sky and Star class on Royal Caribbean. We were charged while staying in the Surfside suite and had to ask the concierge to have the charges removed.
Hi - yes, we do! We can’t post pictures in this comment, but if you go to our Facebook page, we’ve added them there as comments under the post for the room tour video. facebook.com/royaligans Thanks for watching! 😊

We were on during the first week and when we asked they didn't have it. We heard from some folks who were on B2B that they had updated the rooms the following sailing with the Malin + Goetz.
Hi! That’s a really tough call. It would depend on the price and availability of other cabin types. The Sky class amenities were really nice for the price point of this cabin at the time we booked it. We think we could make it work better for our family with the recommendations we made in our review video after staying in it a week, but also really missed having the ocean facing balcony. We’re booked again on Icon for 2025, but in a regular ocean view balcony cabin.
Thanks for posting. I have seen other videos mention the plugs are combo EU/US compatible. Do your bags fit under the main bed? The plug in the vanity area appears to be similar? Did you have any noise from above or outside the balcony that was heard with the door closed? I would expect noise when open it is the nature of the space/room.
Hi! Thanks for watching! We did a review video after “living” in the cabin for a week and talk about some of these things in it. We were never able to get a regular US plug to work in those outlets, though others we talked to did - not sure if they were just too new or we were doing something wrong. We ended up having to use our universal adapters in a UK configuration to use that outlet. The one by the bedside was the same. In the bathroom, we also had two US/NA plugs which we missed in the room tour video on that first day. Our bags did fit under the bed. We had 3 large suitcases and 3 carryons. Placed carryons inside the larger bags and all 3 fit under the bed. There was quite a bit of noise heard in the room from the Surfside area with the balcony door closed, especially when events were being held. Also noise from the hallway, but nothing from above, below, or next door.
We really enjoyed the suite sundeck area and the suite restaurants onboard. Even with 5000 people onboard, it never really felt crowded. The destination elevators are amazing! Icon has become our son's favorite ship. We hope you have a great trip! 😊
We do, he was diagnosed when he was 3 (high-functioning, Asperger’s). We were concerned the size, brightness and possibility for noise would really be challenging, but so far, he loves Icon!Nothing about the ship or cabin has bothered him. He has freaked out on the older smaller ships in crowded or tight spaces, especially elevators.
@@royalshenanigansusa Glad to hear it. One would expect an autistic to spot such a distinctive pattern. But then, every case is different. Or, maybe he spotted it but didn't tell you 😊 (don't ask him unlit you leave, it might freak him out too 😄)
I found it helpful. Bathroom is huge. Although not sure how it is a “family suite” given that there looks to be just one “bed” for the kids (that pull-out couch thing). I would expect bunk beds or similar.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback. If there’s something specific that didn’t work for you, we’re happy to hear about it and try to make future content better.
Thank you! Staying in the room, we’re feeling the same way. It’s a great concept for families but not very well executed. It’s a bit tight for our 13yo (5’6”). If big sister was with us, there’s no way they would fit in that space (nor would we want them to have to share a bed). Two smaller kids would probably be OK, but we wish they had designed and truly sized for a family of 4-5. The shower is amazing!!!
@@royalshenanigansusa Yes. We have 4 kids. At this stage, we typically book 2 balcony staterooms-stick mom and 2 kids in one, with dad and 2 kids in the other. Yes, RC does have suites than can fit 6 (or more). But it’s always been cheaper for us just to book 2 OV balcony rooms. Disney cruises have those beds that pull down from the ceiling. Would love to see RC integrate something like that.
We've stayed in regular balcony rooms with Royal that have the pullman beds, but this suite definitely didn't have them. Would have been nice, though. We're posting our review video of that cabin tomorrow. We measured the bed in the kids' nook and it was 4' x 6' (small double). We have relatives that do what you do - book 2 connecting rooms to have more space and 2 bathrooms.
Terrible SKY suite ..I’m staying in one as we speak the smallest closet ever and the kids bed (nook) is a jock

😮 is that plugs in the bathroom to use the hairdryer in the actual bathroom?!? Please let me know!
Yes! With the Icon we finally had a plug in the bathroom be able to use a hairdryer. 😊

Yes, internet is included for 1 device/person staying in the Surfside family suites (Sky class).

Some of the suites on board have full lenth mirrors that open up as an extra closet. Some of the bloggers were showing that in their videos.

Ours did not open. We did try that, hoping there would be some extra storage.
Is this a junior suite? or a different type of suite?
This is not a junior suite. This is a new type of suite for Royal that comes with Sky class amenities.
