V: Rather than just some stranger telling them to cheer up, I think it’s better to say something like, “You seem depressed lately,” or, “Seems like these days it’s tough for you to perk up.” “Blue & Grey” is the same: “You’re depressed lately? Me too. We’re in the same boat. Wanna talk about how you’re feeling? You wanna feel better, right? I know, but sometimes it feels like you’re being washed away by a whirlpool of stress.” I want the listeners to hear me saying that to them.

I also want to add on about the gray rhino. Gray rhino is a highly probable, high impact yet neglected threat: kin to both the elephant in the room and the improbable and unforeseeable black swan. Gray rhinos are not random surprises, but occur after a series of warnings and visible evidence. Which nowadays highly related to Covid 19 situations.
V wrote this when he was going through some stuff. It was supposed to go on his mixed tape, but he has said that he is happier now.

Basically Blue & Grey means an emotional journey where the boys sing about experiencing anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation during the pandemic. V wrote the chorus and melody but the vocal rap is written by the rap line themselves. And yes, you were right. This song was supposed to be on V's mixtape, but after Jk heard this song, he pushed V to send it to the producers and let the other members hear his song. So in the end, they've decided to put V's song in the album because of the theme itself that suits the theme of their BE album. Another fact, this was written by V in full English so with the help of the rap line members and the producers they've translated some parts into Korean. I hope this would help you:)

Actually JK didn’t push V to put this song. It was the other way round about their song “stay”
They weren’t really feeling the original last song of the album so Tae told Jungkook to play his song “stay” while they were practicing dynamite. The members loved “stay” better then the last track of the album so they replaced dot with stay.

V wrote this song when he was going through alot and a sad person just feels lonely so he is basically saying he picked up words from his surroundings that are suffocating him without anyone's knowing. He cannot sleep at night and at dawn he is going to sleep when the world wakes up. Basically he is saying that at night and in daylight he is lonely.

Tae wrote this sometime at the beginning of 2020 when he was going through a rough time. If you watch the UN speech they did tae talks about it a bit. How he felt depressed but managed to get through it and during their show 'in the soop', during the conversation with jungkook, he talks about how he doesn't feel loved etc. This was originally supposed to be for his mixtape but the others convinced him to add it to the album like Jungkook's song 'stay'. This whole song was also in English before but he changed majority of it to korean for the album

When someone used to say " your looking blue" , or "why so blue?" means your looking sad. Its an old expression. They are talking about going through tough mental states and anxiety. I think you are trying to go too deep with some of the wording. Lol but good reactions. V talks about this in his recent interview. Yes V wrote it.
Actually is not wrong to go deep with the meaning because 90% of their songs do need a lot of thinking because of the wording or metaphors in them so is understandable, in this case is about knowing the meaning behind the colors and V feelings putted into it ^^

V's interview came out today and he talked about he felt really low and wrote this song to release some stress and he also said he wanted to give this song to people who felt depressed to let them know they are not alone. You guys should definitely check the interview on Weverse of his.
First of all, blue is for the feeling of blue, meaning anxiety and sadness and depression when it hits you,
Grey is the color of basically "nothingness" -- so as you look at the lyrics as hobi said, he's not afraid of anything anymore - like he is numb!
"The ground feels heavier" can mean a lot of things, such as now it's all sinking in, the emotion of loneliness and heartbreak can leave you feeling helpless and the ground you step on feels heavier, like you reached rock-bottom.
V wrote this song, and it's a very emotional song, you can tell how he was feeling due to this year's events.. He's very connected with us ARMY, that's why he said "I'm singing by myself".
The rap unite wrote their own raps for this song as well and you can tell because yoongi used his significant signature writing!!
I know Blue was talking about like depression and anxiety, I believe gray kinda talked about the toll the pandemic took on everyone or maybe self doubt?? But the song as a whole is about them experiencing or at least expressing anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation during the pandemic.

Poor tae he was stuck in his dream but achieving it doesn't makes him happy. That's not the dream his dreaming of success.
I'm happy now his stronger and coming out honestly talking about depression. His a superstar but his also a human. That's makes relatable to us.

RM's part refeer that he doesn't believe in some sort of superior thing like certainity (future). He views ''greyness'' as something not necessarily bad, but something comfortable and with different shades so is different to everyone, unlike black and white.
I read other translation in which they put part of his verse as "When it rains, it’s my world I dance upon this city" that really reminds me of the sentiment he expressed in forever rain and moonchild of how he finds rain comforting and how he has learnt to 'dance' in the rain! I particularly like namjoon's lines because the entire song is definitely sad and hurtful but his words gives consolation and communicates that there's beauty in pain.
To know that V wrote this song and the times we saw him quiet/serious/not smiling is a confirmation that he went through something and not just because he matured.. I'm glad that his boxy smile and child like character is back.. 💜

V composed and originally wrote this song in English. He had shown it to the guy's and they all had come to the conclusion that they would use that song for the album. This song is basically to talk about how they have been feeling since the pandemic has begun. The colors blue & gray aren't meant to be mushed into one specific color, they both represent two different feelings. The color blue is known to be the color of sadness. I personally think that Yoongi's verse is a perfect representation of this color's meaning; "The blue question mark still exists. Is it anxiety or depression?" The question mark being all of his depressed and anxious thoughts. Yoongi wonder's if these questions are arising because of his depression, or because of his anxiety. He tried to work hard over the years to drown the thought's out, but since he now can't work he is forced to deal with the battle in his head. Taehyung has spoken lightly during the UN speech about his depression and how COVID-19 has affected his overall mental health. Tae openly shared that he was having negative thoughts and decided to write them down. Jin has said before that he personally is not the happy person we all see him as, and that he tries to hide his sadness when in front of ARMY or the boys. The color Grey was inspired by something Namjoon had told Taehyung about how he sees the world. Tae was very affected by this and decided to add it to the song. Each member has a different meaning to the word grey. Hoseok sees grey as a shadow that is trying to devour him; "On the road, I always walk there is light that always shines. But today the scene feels unfamiliar. Is it dull, or is it broken?" He is talking about how as time passes he feels as though he is losing hope that things will get better. "This lump of metal feels heavy. A grey rhino is approaching; I'm just standing there without focus. I don't feel like myself at this moment. I'm just not scared." Hoseok is explaining how holding his mic doesn't feel the same since he can't perform in front of an audience. The 'Grey rhino' signifies sadness that could easily crush him, but that he does not feel frightened by this.

People say they're blue when they're sad, and I think the added gray is describing how people struggling through depression talk about everything around them "The world looks gray"
So I think "I'm blue and gray" kinda translates to "I'm sad and feel hopeless"

taehyung went through many hardships and worked a lot on himself and finding happiness. the mixtape is going to include very personal and emotional songs that helped him through hard times. he said he likes to write down the emotions he felt during those times and put them into songs. we shouldn't overanalyzie but appreciate his talent for expressing such raw emotion. he also stated he's happy these days and that's all that matters.
Love this song so much :( it’s so sentimental and Jin voice ! Reminded me of how he sang epiphany- it’s so good. To me on a personal level, Tae voice sounded like the cool breeze after a long, rainy day. Love the compilation of their voices. Very vulnerable, very raw and emotional in a perfect way.
Yeah as others have mentioned, Tae has said he wrote this song when he was going through a 'burnout' and that he'd put how he was feeling into lyrics, which helped him get through it. V explained that this song was written from his feelings while he was suffering from a burnout, and he didn't like to use the word depression, so he used the colours blue and grey to express it. NIve also helped V in composing and writing the song, and it was his decision to use the colours Blue and Grey. V said it was a very personal song where he talked about his personal struggles, and therefore he wanted to give comfort to people by converting his pain into music. Really a very deep song. This was intended to be in his mixtape, but the other members said this song was too beautiful and asked him to include it in the BE album.

at first, I thought "secretly picking a horse in the air, now I am falling asleep" meant that he took some pills to finally have some rest from his demons anxiety (blue) and indifference/dullness (grey)

I'm 49 years old and there are very few songs that make me cry when I hear them. This song struck something in my very soul... and it made me think of my children and what they've missed. And my parents. And the losses we've suffered. And that we've forgotten what true happiness feels like. But we will get past this and we will laugh again.

After learning the lyrics, this song seems to me to explain how people who deal with depression feel when they hit their lows. As many people have said the colors represent those feeling but some of the other topics talked about like needing people to stay near you or pushing them away saying I'll tell you when I'm better are very real feelings I've heard from friends who have been depressed.
This song is so meaningful to BTS. V said he's happy these days and he overcame his burnout syndrome by feeling accomplishment coming from composing this song about his hard times
V personally wrote and composed this song when he was going through a rough time. It was a song he was gonna put on his mixtape but when all the members heard it they all liked it so much they decided to put it on the album. It basically talks about being lonely, depressed, anxious and just wanting to be loved. But also at the end of the day not giving up hope and finding a way out and a way to find your happiness.

blue and grey represents how to find comfort even during gloomy and sad days like for example during quarantine we were mostly alone we couldn't Interact with people the way we are normally used to so but we somehow still got through this year and something must have acted like comfort to us for me ...BTS music was comfort in 2020 when life was acting clueless and unexpected.
Taehyung wrote this song, he was really depressed, a lot of Armys were really worried about him because he couldn't sleep, spent a lot of hours in Weverse, in the interviews he wouldn't smile, but the other part of the fandom said "oh, he's not sad, he has just matured." Well... There you are, our Tae was really sad. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they almost disbanded in 2018, and had a break in 2019.
he's a lot happier now. look on the bright side - he said he's happier these days, his boxy smile is back. taehyung created this masterpiece as a form of carthasis, he released this mental exhaustion into art. i'm glad he is in the process of healing. i'm so happy.

In the conference, V talked about blue & grey. He said the colors represent the feeling of depression and anxiety. He also wrote it when he was really having a hard time. He mentioned that the song was dark and sad but the guitar that comes with it would make ARMYs feel calm and safe.
In their global conference - Taehyung said that the song was about the 'mental burnout' he experienced during the beginning of the year. he was mentally exhausted and that triggered a form depression and anxiety. he has spent the past year healing mentally, and used songwriting and producing as a form of carthasis. This is evident in the lyrics, such as "i just want to be happier" and "this ground feels so heavier, i am singing by myself"...it's almost like a cry for help, but no one can hear him. He's in a much better place now mentally. I think Taehyung did a beautiful job, it's my favourite song on the album- the production and the lyrics are phenomenal and very relatable. Well done, Tae. I'm proud of you.
This is like the only bts song I don't listen to, because I can't help not to be emotional when I listen to it. Even when I try not to I can't keep it in. Something about this song , it's so beautiful but it's heart touching. This is not a song I will put on repeat for me. Like they have other songs that make me emotional but this one here does the most.
when you feel under the weather or something, there's a saying that 'I feel blue/sad today' or something like that. Grey symbolizes depression and isolation, you know like it's the closest to black which isn't considered a 'color' in the spectrum, but it has a bit of white in it which reflects the human feeling this emotion since white holds all colors (white light gives off a rainbow when reflected by a prism).
I resonated with this song so much when it came out, I didn’t even need to read the lyrics I felt it through the song, it feels like when your in that pit feeling numb and trying your best to get out just to smile again without faking it. That’s why I cried listening to the words I just want to be happier because I related to it so much. You start beating yourself up and questioning why can’t you be ‘normal’ when you need to actually accept that part of yourself to move forward and give yourself hope which is shown with the beautiful melody along with the sad lyrics that there’s underlying hope within sadness and depression
I think the song meaning of blue and grey is that the way they feel about there life of what they go through. So they are describing it with the colors with Blue and Grey, so basically if you still don't understand they're probably trying to describe there emotions by colors (blue and grey). So blue probably means it show there sadness of there with there faces or basically telling how they feel by describing it with other things like the animals and what they show or relate with them ,but could telling us that they are sad and depressed about something and trying to find the key to make them happy like jin said. Grey probably means there real emotions of how they feel, like they are happy on the outside but it's like they are wearing a mask to pretend they are ok but really they are not. Which is bright and happy on there faces but then it turns blue because of sadness but when you go deeper in there emotions they turn get, which is there real emotions of how they feel which is lonely,sad,depressed, or they have anxiety or probably all. I'm not really sure how it really is, but this is what I think the music is trying to send to all of us of how tae and the others feel or if it's just tae but they just wanna get through all the sadness,lonely, and lift does emotions off and be free with his life of how he/they feel. But I think he is tired of acting faking his emotion so he wrote it when he felt down and wrote how he really feels to tell us what he is going through with his emotions and his career.
But as an Army and All of us army family, I hope Tae and the others are okay with how they feel and they are really precious to us and we are all like family, so I hope we can help them and V with everything and tell them what they taught us through our experiences.

After that, it starts brightening up, telling you to forget your worries until it it gets to the last song, dynamite, which is about happiness. All bts albums need to be listend to in order to understand the story

ik this video is old but this is how i understand the meaning of blue and grey: yoongi (suga) spoke of blue, the strong feeling of sadness and loss, while hoseok (jhope) describes the grey which represents a lack of feeling in general. so as for the rhinoceros part, the rhinoceros is a metaphor for all the bad things that can enter your life, but he’s saying he’s numb to it and he doesn’t feel fear for it because it doesn’t matter anymore. the only thing that he’s afraid of is that lack of fear and emotion toward even the most terrifying things, and that in and of itself is the scariest part of what true depression is. taehyung (v) did write the song, but i believe the rap line wrote their own verses. they were all, particularly taehyung, going through a tough time a while ago and even though at the time of the song’s release they were in a better place, they felt that the song could bring comfort for those who were feeling these things right now because they can know that they’re not alone in this feeling and that things can get better.

The song is Blue and Grey because when you say blue it means you are lonely while grey is a deeper state than just being lonely to the point of being melancholic in a specific time.....V was talking of depression and anxiety while Suga is referring to a dark past and same with Jhope's reference on combatting an invisible enemy that is ready to consume. BTS is narrating a state where somebody is in that particular negative space in time highlighting how one wants to be happier and gets out of the dark but for now he acknowledges the thrown existence he is in until it changes with somebody's help and himself within.

Oh snap you caught something I didn’t which is Suga just talked blue and J-Hope just talk grey- good catch. The last line has something more to do with secretly putting away the thoughts in the air, not horse in the air, and now he has to kind of put it away and go to sleep.
i interpret blue & grey to mean one’s state of mind and also their outlook. so meaning like “i feel blue and everything around me seems grey.” obviously people have used the phrase “i feel blue” to mean that they are sad and if everything around you is grey, it’s colorless, lifeless. it’s a state of depression where you can’t find the beauty in anything you once cared about.

V opened up about depression multiple times now so the song is genuinely personal. He wrote most of it and co-produced it. He said it's about when he realized, in the middle of all their success, that he wasn't happy. So working started feeling like doing chores and it mentally affected him.

I googled, which BTS member wrote Blue and Grey. Google said, it was Suga, RM, J-Hope, Metaphor., and its producers are, Park Ji-soo; Levi; V and Hiss Noise. Google also said; The color blue has long been associated with sadness, while BTS member RM has used grey before to express a similar emotion. When his bandmate V set out to compose an intimate song about depression and wanting to feel happier, he used the two colors to convey how he was feeling. This song was released November 20, 2020. After the song was finished, I felt a sense of accomplishment, and that’s how I was able to let go of “Blue & Grey.” That was one way I wanted to try getting over my problem."

V: Rather than just some stranger telling them to cheer up, I think it’s better to say something like, “You seem depressed lately,” or, “Seems like these days it’s tough for you to perk up.” “Blue & Grey” is the same: “You’re depressed lately? Me too. We’re in the same boat. Wanna talk about how you’re feeling? You wanna feel better, right? I know, but sometimes it feels like you’re being washed away by a whirlpool of stress.” I want the listeners to hear me saying that to them.
yes v wrote originally composed this song, it was in english and was supposed to be in his mixtape but the members liked it so much they wanted it in the album, they translated it from english to korean and added more lines, but the whole concept, the idea is made my v himself. and yes v was going through a hard time at the starting of the year, he said it was because of covid and he couldnt see us, i honestly dont know or maybe relationship problems? but hes okay now hes happier now

Animal of regret is something Suga has mentioned before on his mixtapes. As much as we wish to deny it, people are animals. He also uses that blue question mark(ever seen those in comics or cartoons?) as a metaphor for sadness/depression/anxiety. (My take time: Those things can be quite confusing for anyone, particularly a child, and you never quite know when, where, or how it is going to pop up again. It's a looming uncertainty.)
Grey rhino is a reference to a book. It's basically the consequences of things that we could have avoided if only we had heeded the warnings.

As a writer, burnout is a real thing that creatives can run into when they push themselves too far and have no outlets or breaks. It can be different things to different people. I tend to hate writing, thinking about writing, and anything to do with it when I reach that stage, but I also feel immense pressure to keep going because of how the market is now. People won't wait for content. They demand. They give poor reviews. They stop picking up your stories if you don't write a masterpiece every week. So it's very mentally draining. It's an inner fight that only makes everything worse. I'm actually in a burnout stage right now, hence my escape into bts world.

My interpretation of the entire album is; starting from Life Goes On, they are talking about how the world just stopped out of nowhere all of a sudden and its so confusing like when will this end? will it even end or not? And how they just wanna skip with us to the day where everything goes back to normal, then in Fly To My Room they are talking about how frustrating it is and how its driving them crazy to be stuck in one place not being able to do anything, how the year just got stolen from them. Then in Blue and Grey they show the vulnerable side and talk about how hard it is, how they want everything to go back to the way it was, how they want to be happier cuz its just so depressing now;
Standing on the stage singing to no one in particular as there is no crowd there to cheer you on, its very lonely and the ground feels too heavy. Then in Telepathy they talk about how they are the happiest when they are with us ARMYS, and how even though we are far apart, our hearts are still with each other so its finee. Then in Dis-ease, the title itself is pretty explanatory, disease is like a sickness but the title is dis-ease which is uneasiness, so they talk about how they are anxious and uncomfortable, everyday being the same nothing special..there is a lot of time..it feels like a disease(sickness)...not being able to work is making them feel anxious, having a lot of free time but nothing to do is making them uneasy, "what should I do?" the same question on repeat, its weird. Then comes Stay where they are saying that we are unable to see each other but they know wherever we are we'll always stay with them..so yeah this is what I got out of the album:)
