    My dad had one of these in the late 80's. I had the pleasure of driving it at times. Special car. Very rapid for such a big machine but very comfortable too. Ahead of its time for sure.

    From a time when Mitsubishi made really great and good looking cars. Sadly that is no longer the case.

      Agreed. The current range looks disappointing: a choice of a city car and some 4x4s.

      Ford did velour the best imo. 1980 Cortina Ghia being my favourite.

    Why is the music muted? Why would a publisher care that much about generic library music from the 90s?

    Damn, i miss these type of cars! I always liked the Sapporo (it was only called Sapporo in Germany) as i liked almost every big sedan, that was not made by Audi/BMW/Mercedes. Honda Legend, Opel/Vauxhall Senator, Renault R25, Citroen XM, Ford Scorpio, Lancia Thema etc.. There was such a big variety on the market and not a new stupid SUV every day....

    • @powershin12
      @powershin12 5 років тому

      So, Mitsubishi named Galant as Sapporo or it was just trim level?

    • @Timico1000
      @Timico1000 5 років тому +2

      @@powershin12 Galant and Sapporo were related, but different cars, more than just a trim level. Like Opel Omega and Opel Senator (or Vauxhall Carlton and Senator in the UK). The simpler one was called Galant, the more luxurious was the Sapporo.

      Mazda 6 is probably the closest present day incarnation of the traditional medium to large Japanese saloon. All the other cars car Toyota have abandoned this sector for SUVs

    Thanks for this video. I loved this car, One of my favourite designs from that era. I loved Mitsubishi period. Became a fan as a teen in the mid eighties, working for a dealership serving at their petrol station. Starion being my number 1.

    I daily one of these, great comfortable car with plenty of torque. Sadly the transmission is starting to go. Parts aren't just expensive but are getting very rare. It's a pity mine has no cruise control, electronic suspension and no airco. Still great car and lots of smiles to the gallon.

    I had a Silver Mitsubishi Sapporo, like the one in this video and I loved the vehicle, I loved the way it rides and all the electronic gadgets that came with the Sapporo. I was amazed by this vehicle electronics for the year and time it was manufactured. I have driven owned BMW, Mercedes, Audi coup, Peugeot 405, Renault but nothing beats the Citroen BX. The Citroen BX Diesel was my company vehicle and nothing beats the ride now! As I said, the Mitsubishi Sapporo came a little close! I still loved the Mitsubishi Sapporo.

    This would have been a better video if large parts of the sound weren't missing. The slightly updated Galant Σ V6 was sold in the US in 1988. The entire line shows what BL and Rover could have done with sufficient capital. This line started in 1969 was was constantly updated all the way to 2012.

      There was a Galant Turbo, but no Sapporo Turbo. But the old Mitsubishi engines always made a whining noise that could be mistaken for a turbo.

    In Australia we had a wider.body unit made in 4 models. Base executive, the SE model a sports model called and the Elite. All under the name Magna. The Elite was the top of the range with some of the features on this model in the video. It also had a complete digital dashboard which is the model I owned and loved. It was first released in 1985 and was completely made in Adelaide Australia. The model continued until 2005 when is was replaced by an American styled car re named the 380. Although it was the best car ever made in Australia and won many awards sales were not that strong and unfortunately the Adelaide factory was closed in 2008. All Mitsubishi cars are now imported and today in 2019 all car manufacturing has ceased in Australia from all brands including Australia's biggest brand Holden.

    Mitsubishi Australia widened these by several inches. Called Magna, exported as the Diamante. Toyota copied the idea giving rise to the wide body Camry.

      Google Mitsubishi Tredia and Cordia. They were its siblings (along with the Lancer of course) and were quite popular where I grew up. Oh yes, and the Starion too.

      @DgaDM LOL! The Mitsubishi looks much more modern and smarter than the German trio especially the BMW and Merc which look like right old dinosaurs. The Mitsy is also much more modern under the skin too in terms of tech. Remember, the Germans like BMW couldn't even provide a stereo as standard equipment.

      Yup, '70's and early' 80's they were so distinctive and different. Then they went all bland and same as every other manufacturer. I think it started with the ironically named Carisma.
