- Edward Witten, the award winning physicist and major proponent of string theory, has just made a shocking announcement in a recent live interview. String theory is currently the only scientific theory that brilliantly ties all the facets of our universe together. We need it, and we need to understand it better to understand who we are and how we came to be.

I always understood a Theory in science to be essentially a fact. String "theory" is nothing more than a bunch of assumptions that can't be tested or falsified from my understanding. Nothing has really come of it since the 80s.
Never bring a knife to a gun fight, or a mathematician to a physics problem.
How are the vibrating strings of String Theory fundamentally different from the vibrating, excited regions described by QFT?
I might not have explained it well. I'm no expert but I hope you get the idea.
I'm just a physics enthusiast
How do Strings compare/correlate to Plank Length ??
> elementary particles
> proton
Come again?
Untested? Seriously? It is just an idea then. If t is a form of science fiction
No matter how it turns out, I have been, and will always be a big fan of Ed Whitten. I know how long he’s put effort into waiting patiently for the hadron collider to verify super symmetry. I’m afraid even if they build a particle collider in the circles, the moon, it may not be validated. I hope he turns his attention to the other area mentioned in this piece. And at the end of the day, I know he’ll hold his head high climb into his flying saucer and go home. ;-). Peace.
🛸 😂
I'm sure Eric Weinstein disagrees... Lol
Does uncertainty principle and string theory have a common source?
Quantum mechanics
Itty bitty fields
Excellent mr. Witten go for it I was not good at Maths at school however I do grasp science at times lots make no sense 😅😅😅😅
gravitational pulls
HYPOTHESIS then, not theory
Neumím poslat pruf
Perhaps it time to REvisit the non-physical……🤔…..cheers🥂⚖️🎼

Any scientist willing to throw out an hypothesis that has the potential of String Theory is NOT a good scientist. Yes, the strings would be so small that we can't see them, measure them, study them, and really aren't close to being able to. That doesn't make it incorrect! Yes, study other possibilities, but it should NOT be discarded as wrong, and I don't believe that Witten believes it's wrong. A statement that he may be wrong means he's a good scientist. Nothing more. And BTW Voyager, learn the difference between a theory ("it's just a theory") and an hypothesis!
String theory looks to be a dead end. How many decades of beautiful math to cover up this doesn't predict anything in the real world? Post dictions sure.
Perhaps we discover what is possible by peering through the lens of the impossible?
Are you 14?
*sits back and smugly sharpens big fat pencil and reads his wide lined Big Chief tablet*
Yep, string theory is wrong as well as relativity, it was disproven by quantum physics.
Huh? Quantum physics has nothing but proven Einsteins special and general relativity, over and over again.
When you use GPS they have to account for the fact that time flows at a different rate on the ground vs space, so no it works.
