I say you can rent a truck from Home Depot or uhaul for like $20 a day on those few days that you need one, and just have two vehicles that you like for everyday.

Consider a cheap trailer if you find that you need to haul things frequently. More space than a truck bed if you need it, and you're not stuck with a truck.

If you wouldn’t buy a truck in general and are only thinking of getting one because you moved recently, it would make more financial sense to rent a truck on the days you need to haul stuff. The home projects won’t last that long once you’re settled in. No reason to be out over $40,000 when a rental might cost you $100-500 total depending on how often you need it.

We have a 4 year old and an 18 month old and the mini van is absolutely a game changer. Sliding doors are underrated and we've been able to haul large pieces of furniture with it. You could take a look at the Kia Carnival if you want something that looks like an SUV but is a van.

I have been driving my Highlander Hybrid since 2017 and love it still. I can bring home most furniture in it with the second and third row seats folded down. Definitely a very reliable SUV with pretty great gas mileage. Get the heated seats/steering wheel. You wont regret it! It fits car seats great and it super roomy and comfortable. If I ever need to haul something bigger I borrow one or rent one from Home Depot for $19. Can't wait to see what you and Kyle pick.

    I promise
You we swore minivans weren’t cool enough and we wanted an SUV. Then we bought the Honda Odyssey and I guarantee the functionality and ease of the sliding doors with kids and dogs will be a game changer. We fell in love with it and had it for 8 years. Toyota Sienna is another solid one. Good luck.

Nothing is more satisfying than when that side door slides open for you on the minivan (I had the Odyssey). Especially when you have your hands full and kids in tow. Also, don't skip the heated steering wheel, no matter what you choose.

As a mom of 3 young kids I wish we would have gotten a minivan from the start. I swore I would never be “that mom,” uncool minivan owner. We had a Cheve traverse SUV for years until we made the switch to a Honda Odyssey this year and LOVE it. At some point I got over the uncool factor. The odyssey is only front wheel drive but pretty sure the Toyota Sienna is all wheel drive and it’s a hybrid.

Alright I have a great option for you that has truck practicality yet is a very comfortable and economic family hauler...Honda Ridgeline. It's basically a Honda Pilot with a bed. Has a proven and reliable engine/transmission. Low cabin noise. Lockable in-bed storage which is excellent for groceries or luggage on trips. Probably averages 22-23 mpg combined which is excellent for a mid-sized truck. Out of all the mid-sized trucks I believe it is the most spacious. I have a 2018 and love it!

By far, the best thing to get with kids is a minivan. They’re going to do everything you want and give you the space you need. Make sure it has three rows. Captain seats are great. Now if your ego will not let you drive a minivan Get an SUV. According to the Internet, Kansas in the northern part gets 19 inches of snow a year and in the southern part gets 8 inches. You do not need all wheel drive for that. Front wheel drive is good enough. I come from a place that averages 100 inches of snow a year. I think you’ll be be able to sell that snowblower. You’re young think of it as a work out. Go with the Lexus, Toyota, Acura or Honda SUV. Buy it used 3 or 4 years old. The Lexus and the Acura are going to be expensive, but they are definitely worth it.

I'm rooting for a minivan. The functionality and comfort is amazing for road trips. The newer ones have such amazing features, like cameras to see back rows from the front row. I don't have kids, but do 10 hours road trips at least every other month from Arkansas to Minnesota and the adults and dogs can spread out in my Kia Carnival minivan! I love the lower height to get in compared to my old Kia Sorento SUV. It's great for young kids and dogs. Automatic sliding doors are also great with a bit older kids. You won't have to worry them accidentally dinging someone else's car.

If you are going to look at a Highlander, test drive a Honda Pilot too. It feels bigger on the inside and you can get captain seats in the 2nd row. Both are great options.

We have a 2020 Chevy Silverado that fits 3 car seats in the back and the middle console for your cup holder in the front can be pulled up to provide a 3rd seat in the front. So our truck fits 6 then we brought a bed cover on Amazon. I drive a 2018 Mazda 3 . When we leave Hawaii, we will upgrade the car to a bigger vehicle but having a truck is needed, it’s currently our family vehicle.

Great update! Sounds like you’re settling in well! I raised 4 kids and my all time favorite car that I still have is an Acura MDX. I haul tons of stuff from Lowe’s, it has 7 seats and the seats fold down easily. A truck is great too but very expensive on gas and tires! Good luck!

  • @haley4998

You will not need the truck forever so I would prioritise the suv! Do not get a mini van until you really need it they are gas guzzlers and also babies will be further away! I drove a highlander with a little one for 5 years and it’s fantastic - spacious but not too big plus you have the extra space in the back with the last row of seats down! Also the hybrid gets amazing mileage and they last really well (not endorsed haha)!!

We have two kids 3 and 1. After we settled in our house we traded in our 2014 Tacoma for a 2022 Honda Passport Trailsport. You can find them used very reasonable. They have a ton of cargo space, can tow 5000lbs with a natural V6. Extremely roomy back seat, but it’s only a two row, we didn’t need a third row with only 2 kids, might trade for a three row later down the road if we find we need it for some reason. We found the Tacoma to be too small for car seats in the back while I am driving as I am 6’ 1”. Other car is a Corolla it is our beater for driving into the city or the airport for work travel.

Armada and truck, you will need the truck for those off moments and you won't want to go rent a trailer, just get in your truck and go. Armada is extremely specious, great for road trips, and maneuvering back and forth between front, middle and third row, as an adult 😅also love it for those random potty breaks while on the road, two toddlers in car seats and cat fit 3 adults in the back, I actually tested the third row while 8mo pregnant and was sold because we love going places with the grandparents in the same vehicle.

I have so many things to say 😂
    1) I LOVE an S-10. I had one in my 20s and it was great. It is not family friendly or all that good long term though. We own a small garage, several vehicles, and do all our own repairs. Our 2009 Silverado has been the most reliable truck. Regular maintenance and minor repairs have kept her running strong. That said, renting a pickup or purchasing a small utility trailer for when you need to haul something sounds like a better option for your family's lifestyle.
    2) SUV > Minivan all day. Most minivans use the same transmissions as sedans. With the added weight of the vehicle plus all the people and stuff you inevitability put in it, the trans starts to fail way too soon. There are 2 models that use a specific trans made for vans, Sienna and Odyssey. IF you get one, those are the best options. But I'd go for the Highlander if that's what you like. 4Runner is another great option if you have the funds. Personally, I'm looking at a slightly older Chevy Tahoe because it has the same engine as the Silverado and I know how to work on that 😂
    3) I enjoy the longer videos

I love that you are in my local area, so I know what you are talking about with the Monarchs game, NFM and other local things. These videos are my favorite and it makes me laugh every time Kyle does the "Sup". I would say for the 2nd car situation, if you look at trucks, check out the Toyota Tundra. I think you'll find it has great space for car seats. I think the Tacoma would be tight. If you're looking bigger SUV, I have the Subaru Outback, but would definitely have upgraded to the Subaru Ascent if my kids were still younger! That being said, I would have to weigh the cost of a truck vs how much you'll actually use it. There really isn't any such thing as a cheapo truck anymore from what I've seen. If the situation works, I'd keep borrowing the family's truck when you need it and/or rent the one from Home Depot or Uhaul. And now that I know you got a snow blower, we will not be getting any snow this winter! Thanks for that! That's what happened when we first bought one. We only had like an inch of snow the whole winter that year. 🤣

So I know a lot of people crap on fords but fun fact everyone in the horse world around me has a ford. I’ve had fords my ENTIRE life. As have my parents, grandparents, and uncle. My husband is a mechanic and prefers fords over a lot of others (except Toyota and Honda). I have an explorer now and when this one poops out will be getting another. They have a hybrid form which is nice and I think they might be making a plug in. I have 3 kids. Also my mom has an expedition. Her second one. The space is wonderful, it’s super comfy, and the second row seats move forward even when there are car seats installed. If I had the money it would be an expedition for me. I’ve also had an Edge (that thing lasted forever and had so many miles and was still chugging along just fine when I traded it, so a good midsize option) and an F150. Friends of mine that have SUVs from competitors have way more issues than I’ve ever had. I will say though vans are incredible for the sliding doors and ease of getting kids in and out of the car. It’s much easier than an SUV. Also you can put down or take out all of the seats (usually) and have a large space to work with to haul stuff around. The Kia Carnival I’ve heard good things about and it looks like an SUV if you really hate the look of a van. I saw someone comment about Lexus or Acura. They are nice and last but if you need to do repairs it will be much more than a regular car. Again husband is a mechanic so I know and have seen first hand. He refuses to buy Lexus or Acura because he knows how pricey repairs can get with them. Just sayin

You can refinance at anytime- you don’t have to wait 6 months. The reason mortgage lenders tell you not to refinance before 6 months is because they will have to pay back the commissions they earned off your loan. If you had a good experience with them- call them up and tell them you’d like to take advantage of the lower rates and want to refinance- so they can earn money back in the refi.
Also ask them about a no cost refi option

Few thoughts: 1) if you need a truck to haul stuff back and forth from Home Depot / Lowe's, can you rent their truck since they have rental? - or have them deliver? In my city - Charlotte, it's about $19 or so for about 2 hours and most of the time, I can have them deliver for free or for a nominal fee. and 2) kinda surprised you don't like your Forester, but if you need something bigger and want bench or captain seats, maybe the Subaru Ascent since it offers both configurations (7 or 8 passengers)? The nice thing about the Ascent ... you can easily talk with passengers from front of the vehicle to the 3rd row since microphones and speakers are built in to easily have that conversation throughout the cab. In saying that, other manufacturers probably offer the same technology.
And back to your Forester not having memory for each driver, is that due to an older year Forester or due to a lower trim? I have a Subaru Outback, and it sets the seats automatically when a known driver gets in the driver seat. The computer scans the person in the seat, sets the seat (up / down, forward / back, and sets the mirrors (driver and passenger) for the driver. Also putting the vehicle in reverse, the passenger mirror will adjust to give you a better angle backing up and re-adjust when put back in drive. In saying that though, these automated features probably depend on the trim you get.

@@DebtFreeMillennialsI am just personally allergic to mini vans. LOL. I had one and hated it. I have always been a truck gal and now prefer the SUV’s. Wish I had one instead of the van when I was hauling my kids around. Just my personal preference 😊

I drive a Highlander Hybrid with 2 kids. Perfect amount of space for them and all sports gear. I’d go for the Hybrid. Great mileage around town to and from all the things. In my area I fill up once a week for about $35.

As an staunch anti minivan person because the way they drive always stinks on our back road country roads. We have a five seater SUV That can tow 5000 lbs which makes it great for my crazy farm projects
