yes it is abuse, amazing that the voice of the rollkur 'experts' is stronger and more convincing than solid scientific evidence. What is the world of these dressage horses thinking about? Certainly not the horses!
As a horse owner, I believe this is Cruelty. And they should be banned from performing in any competive way using his method. Harming an animal simply for the benefit of the riders chance of a win is just wrong.

I think they need to ban the use of double bits on horses in dressage events, the only bit you should need is a plain old snaffle bit, no inhumane spiked bits or ones made of bike chains, just a snaffle. And if the rider is seen doing rollkur on a horse, the rider (and possibly the trainer) should be disqualified or fined, maybe both. In fact, the FEI banned rollkur in it's competitions, but it looks like to many people are getting away with it.
+CanterQueen74 Double bits are not the issue. The idea of the double bit is to allow for tiny and very precise cues from as skilled rider with excellent hands, they are not inherently harsh just as no normal snaffle is inherently harsh. You can achieve hyeprflexion in any ordinary snaffle through hard handed riding. The changes need to come through rider attitudes and patience in training rather than use of excessive force to attempt to make the front end look more flashy in a young dressage horse.
This is just wrong no animal deserves to be treated like this. It is pure animal abuse. This disgust me as a rider as an equestrian and as a civilian who as witnessed this.
Would be better without the sad music and with clear and explenation. Just give the facts, preferably with video showing motion and not just stills, and with an expert explaining.
my horse goes behind verticle without me even trying... i dont know how to stop it. any tips? hes so used to dressage now that he wont stop going on verticle, or way behind
Msp Lins Angel This is common in horses who have come from other walks of life and are used to being forced there (off track Thoroughbreds often have this problem). I suggest you look up Will Faerber (Art2Ride on UA-cam). There are some lovely, informative videos. It takes time. Typically because a horse that is used to being overbent starts hurting when they use their bodies the right way.
My mare was always behind the vertical and I hated it, I left her out of work for a few weeks and transferred her to bitles, she's wonderful now. Still listens though when I ask her to collect her self up. Didn't take that long either. Just let her be a horse for a while. She was turned out with 3 horses, cows sheep in 20 acres. She completely changed her attitude and became happier and more like a horse. Although she's unseprate from my other gelding 😂
ride with a looser rein and encourage him/her to stretch downward to reach for the bit. You can also try the temporary use of a chambon, which encourages the downward stretch but does not interfere with the rider's reins.
Rollkur used to be heavily condemned by the hunt and dressage crowd. I don't know why it's accepted now. But remember they are only under saddle for a very short time each day - the rest of the time they an stretch the neck and relax all they want to.

That is incorrect. Each bit has a use and a purpose. The bit is never the problem - it is always in the hands of the RIDER.
Excellent and informative
I could go on for hours with everything wrong with professional dressage abuse, but this is a good start I think.
