I have been using a pair of Sennheiser PC323D G4ME's for some time now. I wanted something with the same flip up mic, cloth ear pads and volume dial. I picked up the PC38x and wow, huge improvement. Didn't realize how bad my old headphones were until I got these. Only minor negative is they are slightly tight, they should loosen up over time though. Great review, helped me pick these.

Hey Josh, hoping you will read this. I'd really like to see you get into the topic of equalization. I think a lot of people nowadays use computers to play (or mix/ record) music, where equalization is often as easy as a free or low-cost plugin. Theoretically, that should allow us to equalize out almost any weaknesses a headphone may have as far as the frequency response graph is concerned. But does it introduce any issues like distortion, or reduced dynamic range, or anything of that sort? Maybe even metering and sound stage? Do different headphones take equalization differently well, so that a weakness of headphone A can be easily adjusted for with an EQ, while headphone B falls apart trying to fix its respective issues? Why is it not discussed more often in headphone reviews? Wouldn't a 5$ plugin often get you a few hundred dollars worth of sound? Couldn't an audio-interface come with presets to flatten out the frequency response of a variety of popular headphones? Or a specialized software plugin for MacOS / Windows? Or are such things already available? If so, how do they perform? I'd love to see a video on that topic. Thanks for considering this! :)

I already have HD660s and modmic wireless and everything is great, but I wish it had more soundstage, so I am not sure if I should try 38x or 560s, or if it will be too much of a downgrade for music listening. I am not even a huge fan of 600 series vocal intimacy because in some (very rare) vocal-centric songs it feels like too much.

Thinking about getting these to test on the PS5. So far i have tried multiple sound setups with the PS5. I tried Sundaras, Dt1990s, HD58xs, Dt880s, Dt770s, QC35ii and PC37xs through a D30 Topping amp that is fed from the TVs optical out. This way sounds good but you get no 3d. I have then tried running via the output of the PS5 controller and through a FiiO amp with the above headphones and had the 3d tempest with good sound. I also tried the Hyperx cloud flights and the Logitech G pro x wireless with their dongles connect to the PS5 and this 3D sound was the by far the Best. With the Logitech sounding the best. The sound stage was huge and imaging was really good. So what i have learned after a lot of $$$$ is just cause a headphone may be great for music doesn't mean it is good for gaming! Also comfort is KING cant listen to something if it hurts you!

Appreciate the differentiation between music and gaming performance! How would you rate the Focal Elex for gaming? Audio direction is sometimes so nebulous and hard to describe, or the game just has god awful audio so it can be hard to tell, but I'm curious on what you think about the Elex for gaming.

Pretty sure that the Tygr is a good bit sharper in the upper mids and highs/treble range as it's still a Beyer. Might sound more detailed because of that but I found them to be fatigueing after a while.

So in a previous video on the SHP95/600 and HD58X you described the 9500 for the gaming focused, the 58x for the music focused and the 9600 as for the consumer looking for acceptable performance in both.
Curious how you would rank the PC38X in that dual use category compared to the SHP9600?

    Great review as always!
I'm on the fence to buy the PC38X.
But here is the thing, i play mainly on consoles.
If i'm plugging the headphones to the wireless game controller, am i loosing the audio quality advantage wired headphones have over wireless ones?
Is there a way to avoid this problem?
Another question i always have is if i should stick to uncompressed stereo or choose the dolby atmos (on XBOX) or the virtual surround options most games have nowadays?
Which option will give me the best sound quality, imaging/pinpoint accuracy and soundstage?

One thing I am misssing in this review is the cable.
I am owner of the PC360 (probably 1st gen of this lineup), which has fixed long thick rubber cable. This thick rubber is really good at keeping the cable straight and reducing noise from cable rubbing on my clothes.
It seems that every new gen already has removable cable, which is braided (more dirt being picked up by it) and some other reviews mentioned more noise from cable rubbing the clothes...
Also this new cable seems thinner, so I am worried about more tangling.

Man being in the UK sucks :( Right now I either buy a HD 560s for about £170 from Sennheiser UK, or this headset (which I would rather get) from drop but with all the customs charges etc, that raises the price wayyy above the HD 560s. Not to mention after sales service with the HD 560s which would be in the UK, whereas for the PC38x I'd have to send it back to the US. Really wish they didn't close the Drop EU warehouse. All of that aside, fantastic review as always, and much respect for the summary at the start of the video. Can't wait to see the HD 560s review!

I bought these headphones last year, mostly based on your review. Here's some of the gripes I've had:
Plugging it directly into my laptops headphone jack made the headphones sound atrocious, and no amount of software tweaks I made could improve it. I had to buy a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter as a "DAC" substitute to get it sounding good, luckily this was a cheap purchase and fixed the audio issues almost immediately.
Next issue, the microphone is horrid. I can get it sounding good in Audacity, but through discord or in a game program, everyone says I'm barely coming through properly unless I'm absolutely eating the microphone, even though all hardware cables are properly connected. The microphone handle has very little play so you can't bend it towards your face very close, and pushing it up to switch it off is very hit and miss, sometimes it shuts off, sometimes it doesn't.
Aside from these issues, they're fantastic sounding cans.
Has anyone else had these issues?

    • @bulldog7050
      @bulldog7050 8 місяців тому

I bought this headset around a year and a half ago, and actually I've had none of those issues, plugging it into my computer 3.5mm jack sounded great, although now I do have an EQ on them. Only issues I've had were the first few times I used it in discord, my friends could hear my audio through the mic, but that went away after a few days and its fine now, kinda seems like it needed to "break in" like a subwoofer or something. Only other issue is using the volume dial creates a static noise when turning it. The mic arm also came apart, didnt break, just slid apart, I fixed it with super glue and its still holding strong, other than those minor issues, its been perfectly fine, I think its the best headset I've ever heard personally.

I don't know if anybody will reply to this, but here we go.
Recently I bought the PC38X, and it arrived today. The packaging wasn't beat up, nothing was damaged, blah blah.
There's those 2 cables, the splitter and the one with just 2 ends. I'm using the one with just 2 ends for my laptop.
When I plug it in, audio only comes from one ear, and any level of talking sounds distant and echoey, like you're in a auditorium. Any audio that is not talking, sounds flat, dull, and is just generally not high quality. This is not my desired experience.
Is it a problem with the headphones? A problem with my device?
I plugged them into my 7th gen iPad, and they had the same problem.
I'm using a dell G15 5511, and I plugged in another 3.5 mm headphone that I had, and it doesn't have that problem.
Do I need to buy a sound card? Should I ask for a different pair?
    I need some help here.

I had a few gaming Headsets from Sennheiser 10+ years ago. They didn't fare very well. After 1-3 years the volume dial stopped working properly (sound volume became imbalanced between the cups). Also the mute switch of the Mic broke. And the cables inside bendy part of the Mic broke. All in different Headsets. One Gaming Headset had volume on the cable, which also broke.
And no i rarely used the volume or the Mic Mute more then once a Day.
Since then I avoided Headsets with moving parts and i bought a Headphone and a Antlion Modmic 5. That pair is lasting longer then all of the Gaming Headsets combined.
