No truer words were ever spoken bruh! Once the power hits them and they start getting important leadership positions, they forget all about their constituents!
Why should they? He's been out of office for 25 years! And when he WAS in office he hardly spent any time at ALL In Kansas once he became a Washington bigwig. I'll bet half the people in that town don't even remember him! None of them under 35 anyway!
His wickpedia says he maintained his lifelong home in Russell Kansas, but he spent quite a few years in Walter Reed after his term of service was over. Must have been one heck of a commute for loved one's. Then it says he was interred at Arlington cemetery but this video has his body going past his home in Russell. Very confusing. Did they ferry his remains all over the place back and forth from DC to Kansas then back to DC? That seems a bit ghoulish.
Most former senators and presidents lie in state at the US Capitol. Then they might return to their home state to lie in state in their state capitol, so the people they served can pay their respects as well. In Dole's case, he was eligible to be buried in Arlington, which is the highest honor a military veteran can receive. That's why he was returned to Washington DC. It's actually pretty typical for senatorial/presidential burials to do a bit of traveling. In the case of presidents, their libraries--where they're buried--tend to be located in their home towns. Though that wasn't the case with Reagan.
Yes, they ferried his body all over the place. From the doings they had, you'd think the dude was a president or something instead of a senator from a backwards hick state! Refer to Jeffrey Hill's comment about President Lincoln. You can sure tell how much they loved him by the hoards of people that turned out to pay their respects here, can't you?
@@retroguy9494 Probably because he was out of office since 1995. And let's face it--most of his fellow WWII vets who would have honored him as one of their own are already dead. Too many people out there are cynical like you, and wouldn't think to respect a mere war hero. I'm willing to bet Dole will be remembered (at least by veterans) long after you're dust.
@@Gail1Marie First of all, he is NOT a war hero. He was just injured in the war like THOUSANDS of other men. What makes HIM more special than them? If you want a TRUE war hero who was a senator, read up on Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. That guy had his arm shot off and while bleeding out, still hurled grenades at Germans to save his comrades while telling them to stay back. He got the Medal of Honor for it! Before you call me out, let me inform you my dear that I have nothing but the utmost respect for our military, especially those who served during wartime. I had several relatives serve in World War II. A couple great uncles, my grandfather, my uncle and my father! My uncle, who turns 95 next month was presented with one of those 'honor blankets' 2 years ago by his community. You call me cynical. But this is the ugly side of politics showing with this whole funeral of Dole's. His war service aside, he was just a congressman and as senator. If anything he was a THREE time loser for president! He should have been relegated to the political graveyard! And I think it showed with the lack of turnout as we see here. If he was such a hero, where the hell was everybody? You KNOW after he became a big shot in Washington he basically abandoned his constituency in Kansas don't you? He was barely ever there! As for his war service, as my late grandmother taught me; if you do for ONE you have to do for everybody. Why don't ALL the injured veterans who served with honor in World War II get funerals like Dole?
Oh please. The dude hardly even spent any time in Kansas at all! Once he got to be a bigwig in Washington, he really didn't care all that much about his constituency. He spent most of his time in DC even AFTER he left office. No little house by the railroad tracks in some hick state for HIM!
Are you kidding? Did you watch the funeral? Then, on his way back to Salina people were holding American flags as the procession dove down 70. Kansas loved this man
@@Gail1Marie My town is only around 3,800 and we get more people turn out for our Christmas tree lighting than this man who was supposedly beloved there! And I wouldn't go all the way to the airport which is like a 45 minute drive from here if someone was going to pass right through my town who was FROM my town!
Oh, I'm sure he's aware! But the point of all that is theater and media coverage until the last shovel of dirt goes on top of him! If he loved Kansas and lived there, I could see it. But he hasn't really lived there in almost 50 years!
Child of the prairies going home in gorgeous winter light
We lost a true hero God Bless and Rest in peace 🙏
I agree
Showing great respect and compassion,
Thank you, KSN, for posting this.
God bless you and may God bless America
I was born and raised in Olathe. I'm proud of Bob Dole. True Kansan!
A fitting tribute to a Noteworthy Patriot.
Godspeed, Sir.
People were probable thinking "he dosen't live here; hasn't in half a century, who was he again?"

This is sadly under whelming, no town residence out to pay their respects.🙏
Probably ordered to stay inside by the local cops
Bob Dole says Merry Christmas

sad that the whole town did not come out to say thank you to him

Read your history. Guess what they did with Abraham Lincoln? He took a Grand Tour.

Bob Dole isn't there, only his body. This type of thing is ridiculous if you ask me.
No one`s asking you
He knows bruh....he knows. Trust me on that one.
Nobody in Russell showed up to honor him. Gotta be a reason for that.

People are shallow and have short memories.
There are only 4,525 citizens in Russell, Kansas. Maybe a lot of them went to the airport? That's what I'd do.
as long as he was away from Kansas, bet 99% of the people had no idea who he is
