Can I just say your content is fantastic and I’m so glad you include the Yale Romanization in your lessons because that’s how I learned tones initially.

    好多謝妳呀,講得好啱,重有應該呢個重,但係坊間95%以上嘅人都係用仲;另外其他網友講得好啱,你講廣東話冇懶音,我哋年紀大,聽到而家啲UA-camrs KOL、甚至新聞報道員同埋炙手可熱嘅男團入邊都有幾個好多懶音,例如幫(born) ,講(趕)望(mon)🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

Most native Cantonese speakers don’t know the language as well as you do.

I'm kind of learning as I go lol so not sure about that, but thank you!! 💖🤗 I just find it all so interesting (or confusing, or frustrating or incredibly amazing ... and usually all at the same time haha 😂😂😂! )

I’m glad you can appreciate the beauty of Cantonese. To the 1.4 billion Chinese who speaks Mandarin in mainland China, Cantonese sounds gibberish and makes no sense whatsoever. Add to that every city or town in the province speaks Cantonese a little differently from each other and have their own unique accent. It truly is a linguistic nightmare.

I find this very useful! I've known most of these words all my life, but am only learning now they share a common character.

Good topic ❤that's a very confusing but common character! You have explained it quite clearly🤩Here comes a problem for other students. How about "serious"? How can we pronounce 嚴重?😛

It's so nice to see these words written down. I've learned my Cantonese by ear and I do understand when I hear people say "to repeat", but finding the words when I'm speaking can be a challenge. Though now that I can associate it with a character and a meaning, I think I will be able to remember next time I want to say "to start something again" or "repeat." :)

I think it's common to read it and define it as "heavy" because that's the standalone meaning of the one single character whereas the other meanings and pronunciations need to be combined with other characters to change.

We will and we should know its most basic meaning -- heavy chung5. Then next will be 'important' jung6. Last, "again" chung4. Actually "still" is more commonly written with another character.
