- Jesse Johnson's Revue - "Can You Help Me" (12") - Video Mix by Myles Matisse!
"The debut album "Jesse Johnson's Revue" was an incredible Minneapolis Sound style funk fest from the first song to the last. I still play it to this day. I've followed Jesse since his beginnings in The Time, a funk band Prince formed as a musical outlet for funkier songs he wrote that he felt didn't fit his image and needed a beefier, funky band of 7 to make it happen. Jesse's song, "Can You Help Me" from from his debut is just one example of musical excellence. I love the 12". Unfortunately and frustratingly, Jesse never made a music video for it. So, I grabbed some great footage of Jesse Johnson's Revue on Soul Train and re-edited it to fit the extended audio. Hope you enjoy it." - Myles
The original version of "Can You Help Me" is on Jesse's debut album, "Jesse Johnson's Revue".
Jesse Johnson's Revue were:
Jesse Johnson: Lead Vocals, Guitar
Michael Baker: Guitars, BG Vocals
Mark Cardenas: Keyboards, BG Vocals
Tim Bradley: Keyboards, BG Vocals
Gerry Hubbard: Bass, BG Vocals
Bobby Vandell: Drums, BG Vocals
CAN YOU HELP ME Lyrics:
Girl you know I'd love to know your name
But I don't have the lines
Unfortunately we're taught baby oh so tastelessly oh
How could I waste your time
Everybody knows girl I'm so in love with you
It's no mystery
Ooh, I just want to be your lover baby
Forever naturally
So tell me girl
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Girl you know I'm not the type that feels I'll win your love for sure
But if my heart keeps pushing harder baby I'll fall right through your door
It's not that I don't want you bad enough
The truth is I'm afraid
Sincerely telling you just what's been on my mind
Maybe judgement day
So tell me girl
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Baby girl, Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Everybody knows, oh oh
How bad I want you girl
Some people say, yay yay yay
My mind is in another world
Now baby won't you please please baby
Let me give you all my love
Cause I'm so afraid naturally
Cause your heaven sent from above
So tell me girl
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Girl can you help
Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?
Oh woe woe, Can you help me?
Baby can you help me?

@@djmylesmatisse Thank you. I'll give it a watch when I have some time to relax and enjoy it.
It is an impressive video mix! I always thought the album version was identical to the 12-inch version. Even though they're both around 6 minutes long, the ending is different. Now I have to find and purchase the 12-inch mix, lol.
❤❤❤❤❤😊 always will love you!!

Killer Bassline infused with overlapping guitar riffs and keyboards for classic 80’s Minneapolis Sound. Should have been way better than it achieved!!! Jesse gotta work on his lip-sync tho🤣!!
Back then we didn't know that they were lip synching. At least I didn't know as a 15 year old...
Is it just me but did you notice how many male artists copied Prince? Clothes, hair.
Yep. It was the Minneapolis Sound that Prince basically invented. Sound. Look. Feel. All Prince
Jesse Johnson was with the Time before the Jesse Johnson Revue, Prince put that city on the Map I hope they have name a Street or Highway after him by now if they haven't they need to., Baby Face have part of 465 Highway name after him in Indianapolis
Jesse had his own style. Was every bit a great guitar player as prince. Jesse Johnsons Revue was the shit
His musical chops yes but the visual look no! He is under rated as a guitar player. It was tough in the era he was playing.
His visual style was perfect! He looked smoother than silk! Pulling the ladies left, right, and center! Guitar player extraordinaire just cold with it! 💕
All he did was dissect Prince's sound and linn drum......
I like Jesse better than Prince-sorry-just liked his songs better. He is underrated. Yes I know Prince created the Minneapolis sound.
I like Ready For The World better than the above mentioned 😃
Right
Honestly, so did I back then.
