    So I just seen this and thought wow that's a pretty good idea and thought a long time ago something like this would be possible. I've never cut any of my tanks and never really plan to so this would be something I would be somewhat interested in. However after realizing I would need a sump and that it's really not for a small 5 gallon tank. I'm trying to make a waterfall nano tank with a real waterfall not a sand one. I had bought a pump and tubing but realized after putting in a large chunk of wood for hardscape that the waterfall is going to fall down on I really don't have room for my sponge filter or any kind of interior filter at all and I also won't have room for a HOB filter either since I'm using a black corrugated plastic sheet to keep the water from falling out of the tank on the back now. So I started looking at canister filters which I've also never used before. After digging and researching a lot on both DIY and store bought ones I ran across this other filter that Hygger makes it's a cross between this setup with the fish waste collector and a canister filter it's model number is HG 150 and it's fairly hard to find info on. I'm wondering if you could request one of these from Hygger and do a review on it. I'm assuming you'll end up really liking it since you like canister filters and you thought that the fish waste collector thing was a good idea on this one. I've been pretty happy with Hygger's products for the most part other than their heaters. I had one get stuck on and it fried all my fish hence the reason I'm changing out this tank I'm working on now. Their lights are amazing! I love their 24/7 lights they have. Anyway thanks for reviewing this setup and I'll look forward to Hygger sending you their HG 150 filter fingers crossed!

      Hey! The setup u r trying to achieve sounds amazing! I'll look into the hg150, thank you for sharing this with me, I like real water falls better than sand myself, so can understand that, you r putting alot of good thought and planning into this before you jump and that's is smart !

      @TheSalient1 well I'm disabled so I can only work on it a little bit at a time before the pain tells me I need to stop and take a break. The heater took a dump on me almost 6 months ago already now so I've been slowly collecting the parts and stuff I thought I would need but after thinking about everything I really am starting to think a canister filter is the way to go on this build especially since I've got no room for anything else. I was also thinking that would increase my water amount total a little as well since 5 gallons is a very small amount I had probably 75-100 Yellow Tiger Endlers in the tank before the heater gave out on me so having some extra water wouldn't hurt matters any lol. I've got a ton of plants both aquatic and household growing out of both my 5 gallon and my 8 gallon tanks both had way too many Yellow Tiger Endlers in them cause I went from having eight tanks down to two lol the fish were perfectly happy in both tanks. They still are in my 8 gallon but I really need to get some back in my 5 gallon in case anything happens to the 8 gallon in the meantime.

      So update. I contacted Hygger and they did send me a message back asking for the url of the filter so she must not be familiar with the HG150 model number. I don't think I can post urls on here but I actually sent her their own website back where it looks like an order form for companies wanting to order these in bulk. That's the only info I can find on them on Hygger's website. I actually found it listed for sale on Amazon for $40 well $39.99 with a 10% off coupon. Sold by Hygger even though you can't find it listed on their store on Amazon itself so IDK it's definitely a weird item that I think is just coming out maybe? I think I found it listed on one other website and there was one 5 star review on it but that's the only review I've found on it. They have a video on it on UA-cam as well I think or a video on Amazon for sure I think it's on UA-cam as well though.

  • @Whips_World
    @Whips_World 3 місяці тому +2

    On a drilled tank, the flow into the sump is dictated by how much water is being pushed into the aquarium. Im not sure how it works with this system, but yeah, I can see how getting the balance right might be a challenge. So, it's sucking and blowing at the same time? It can't be gravity fed like a regular sump, right? Ill watch again to see if I missed the fact that you explained this already.

    • @TheSalient1
      @TheSalient1  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes it is gravity fed, then the pump pushes the water back into the aquarium as a normal sump, no matter what I do I cannot get the balance to stay even, it either fills or drains too fast

    • @Whips_World
      @Whips_World 3 місяці тому +1

      @TheSalient1 I wonder why? On my sump system, the water naturally drained as fast or slow as the pump pushed into the tank. 🤔 There must be some sort of slowdow/hangup within the outflow.

    Well, the first thing I'd say is, "Hygger, I know Orange and White are your logo colors, but for the love of GAWD, make that thing BLACK so it blends into the background. I don't want blaze orange in my aquarium."
    Second, "Make sure you give the buyer MORE hise than it needs. People will be putting this on 6ft tanks or bigger. They shouldn't have to rig it up all wonky to get it to work."

    That thing is a rocket ship on the side of the tank. Id have to use one to see if Im a fan. Thats alot of hardware to have hanging there. is this to take place of a canister filter or what problem is this solving ?

    • @TheSalient1
      @TheSalient1  3 місяці тому +1

      @JayRockDoesStuff it can replace a canister or any filter as it's a hob sump filter, great if you don't want to drill tour tanks and have a traditional sump set up, simply hang this on the side, and your good to go, if you watched the whole video is has a few special features over a traditional sump.

      @@TheSalient1 Im not sump person myself. But that thing is huge . would a person who runs a sump be attracted to that size of hardware to not drill a tank and if a person was setting up a tank from scratch what would be the benefit of using that VS a can or a hob or a sponge that has a much much smaller footprint. Im trying to understand the benefits over another choice as for me based on size it would need to do something pretty significant vs something you cant see running under your stand.. hopefully that makes sense?

    Hmm i wonder if i should add this to my aquarium or if it would just be overkill. I have a 125 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump. Im using a eshopps pf1200 as my syphon box (my tank isn't drilled), and my return pump is 1600 gph. Any thoughts? Fyi, it's for a tank with oscars!

    • @TheSalient1
      @TheSalient1  3 місяці тому

      @sphinx7137 I like the product, especially for me as I do not use drilled tanks either. If you want to get into the sump game, this makes it very easy, as shown in the. Video, very simple to put together and they include the pipe cutter, Teflon tape etc, it's plug and play, with your 1600 gph pump and 75 g tank already in play, as long as you do not mind the amount of space it takes up on the outside of your aquarium it will do just perfect for you, I am a canister filter guy myself. You can get it in Grey as well if you don't want the red so it's a little less subtle. It provides everything you need in one box instead having to gather all the parts and make it yourself, I love efficiency and ease of use and this will get you there

    With sumps it impossible to get the balance in flows as it may change with flow getting slow with time so you would need to drill a hole the tank to overflow the water to the sump that way you never have to think about balancing. And I have made a sump with black glass so the dirty things in it are invisible and looks best for the aesthetics

    I've seen these on some channels from Japan in bare bottom gold fish and koi tanks. I would hesitate using it in a sand substrate with a strong pump you would need to keep it up a ways from the sand. A gravel substrate probably would do good. I do like the concept though.

    Interesting design but bit of an eye sore. I’d recommend getting a gate valve to replace the ball valve going down to the sump, much easier to calibrate. For the pump, is a standard pump or controller to adjust the flow?
    With my sump I use sicce wifi control at 56% flow.

I also bought the HG915-8000. what is the hose size did you used to connect (Part 9 Connecting Pipe for Pump) to the Water Pump? Part 9 is so much smaller than all the connections I have on the HG915-8000.

      @TheSalient1  3 місяці тому +1

      @coachdee3554 confused here, I have 8 fluval canisters and none come with or have skimmers to make them work, you do not need a skimmer for the fluval canister filters of any model, u simply set them up, fill them 3/4 full of water hook to tank and plug in, they run a bit then stop , purge air out the. Run again then stop every 12 hrs to purge the air out the system, they are supposed to do this. As for the pump for the waste collector yes u need a pump but I need to know what the gph rating is on the pump you are trying to use with it

      @@TheSalient1 you are absolutely correct. I am saying when you connect Hygger waste collector to a Fluval FX6 canister. The skimmer on the Hygger waste collector pulls air in and causes more air to get into the canister.
      The FX6 is great just doesn't work well with the waste collector
      I needed to add the Hygger waste collector to a Sump pump tank with a flow rate of 2100 LPH or 600 plus GPH
