One of the greatest films of ALL time. Period!
Dude, they are IMPROVING the original for HD Blu Ray release. Would you rather they just re-release the DVD version to Blu Ray and say "suckers, pay $25 for the same movie you bought 15 years ago". This was brilliant to see. I enjoyed seeing the effort they have put into this classic
If only they had this level of commitment for all their old films they release on Blu-ray....
It's a shame that the Back to the Future films aren't getting a new transfer for the 30th anniversary Blu-Ray.
Maybe they are, and they're keeping it a secret, but it's highly unlikely.
***** But back to the future doesn't need that much restoration. Though they did reduced the grain and sharpened the 25th Anniversary... :/
I bet they already have 4k masters ready to go... Or I hope they do.

To be fair, they did extensively change the audio considering all the modern sounds mixed into this 40 year old film. They don't blend well.
The original Mono audiotrack is included on the disc - enjoy.

@@wright96d - Wrong. The recent 25th Anniversary release on VHS and DVD contained all new sound effects, but the Blu-ray (and upcoming 4K UHD release, contain the original audio).
@@ScottSullivanTV The original mono remains, but the surround mix uses modern effects, even adding effects that were never there to begin with in any fashion.

Normally I can’t stand these types of ‘studio’ promos’ ...BUT THIS IS. RARE EXCEPTION.... Beautifully done. Great work to those techs who made a substantial contribution to a masterpiece.
I definately agree here. Jaws was the origin of the term Blockbuster*, and without it most of the movies we'll see this year, such as Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, wouldn't be on the same epic scale that they are.
*The word originated from the Jaws premiere. The line to get tickets was so long it circled around the block back to the entrance, 'busting' the block!
Amazing that such hard work was put into restoring a movie made 37 years prior!
Oh my God. This is like the greatest thing ever. Watching them restore is fascinating. I think Spielberg was worried people would think he was Lucas'ing. He kept saying that no content was changing over and over. I can't wait for this to come out.
I love all the work done with preservation and restoration -- so long as the original color timing isn't altered and they provide the original sound mix, I'm happy.
One of my all-time favorite movies, I love Jaws!! Never, ever get tired of watching it.
I'm glad Steven is faithful to his work and doesn't bother changing it for the sake of preservation. Steven, you truly are one of the best filmmakers of all time.
Yeah and if he made a remake I bet he’s good enough to make it realistic enough but remember the original always triumphs over the remake
but he did a lot of changes to the E.T.

I got this yesterday, the picture looks gorgeous and the sound is great. It blows away the 25th anniversary DVD I had in terms of how clean the print is.

Blu-ray increases the quality of normal dvds...that in iteslf is reason to use a blu-ray player. Blu-ray discs are total garbage...and in fact need to be steered well clear of if you love films. Dialogue is of the upmost importance in a film...agreed? Then never buy a blu-ray disc....!!!

This 7.1 mix better be based on the original mono sound effects since I can still hear the remixed sound effects in this video!! Or at least include the original mono mix as a bonus audio track.

'Talent' never goes away. You mean to say Spielberg's projects were less compelling during the 2000s.
Never mind the Blu Ray, the 4K version is outstansing!!. All the way through the movie. And the sound quality is top quality also!

Great little featurette, I wish it was longer and that there was more movies with this kinda extra, I love to see people do this kind of restoration work.
The Thing(1982) and Jaws(1975) are two of my favorite movies
Seeing how much work has gone into this restoration convinces me to buy this bluray. Even if only to support such meticulous restorations in the future. I wish all films could have such dedicated work to bring them to bluray.
At the end Jaws now screams "Nooooooooooo!!"

These guys restoring the classics are lucky in there jobs the get to see old favs over and over and are first to watch the finished version. Imagine sitting in Universal Studios personal cinema/tv room and watching these classics restored and made better than there original release. I'd ave goose bumps every day.

Je n'ai jamais vu mon film préféré dans de si bonnes conditions. Une restauration d'une rare précision,un son d'enfer,des bonus passionnants. Merci Universal d'avoir enfin sorti mon film préféré dans de telles conditions.
I want another jaws movie so much. I just love it! If they could do one and not mess it up with CGI. I love how when the dock breaks on the fishermen and all you see is the dock coming. Amazing!

This is bloody brilliant. I have the LTD Edition DVD with this feature & more on it. JAWS was & always will be the greatest shark movie ever made. 🦈🦈🦈 Fact- The roar that was heard when Bruce got blown up and was sinking at end of movie was the same roar used in the other Spielberg classic - Duel when the truck went over the cliff at end of movie.

Wish they put this much commitment into Jurassic Park, still lots of room for improvement.

Just pre-ordered on Amazon. I was 4 when this came out... Seen it when I was 8 and still to this day will not swim in the ocean lol. I for one appreciate all the hard work and think they did a fantastic job!

I have just watched this at the cinema & it was this updated version, it looks fantastic, they have also left in the shooting stars !
Now let's upgrade this bad boy to 4k
They scanned Jaws in 4K, literally the only thing they need to do is transfer it to a disk and that's basically it. I'm willing to bet it'll be released in no more than two years.

@@SquidkidMega 4K might not make any difference. HD to 4K is often not as big a jump as SD to HD.

This is amazing. I will gladly buy the darn thing for the 3rd time; VHS, DVD and now on BD august 14th, probably on the last physical format. They probably did a 4k restoration, so that I can download in 2018 on my 50/50 gig ultrabroadband :)

i felt jaws more better than king kong.becoz king kong was more drama n romance while jaws was kickass thriller/horror.Spielberg Rules!!!truly a genius!!!

I can't wait for Jaws on Blu-Ray when it comes out August 14th. Jaws is one of my favorite films of all-time. Just from reading the early blu-ray reviews of the blu-ray online I'm happy to hear that not too much DNR was put on this remaster of Jaws and also I'm glad to hear the original mono soundtrack in DTS 2.0 mono is on the blu-ray. As great as the new remix is and I know some enjoy it the original mix should always be put on a order title on blu-ray as well.

Wow, Jaws, E-T and the Indiana Jones Trilogy (and that other one, again) all being released this year on blu ray: 2012 is the year of Spielberg in high-def.

Yes they are. That opening line about Universal's "intense commitment" to preservation and restoration - coming from the VP of Content Management, the very man who's signed off on all their offensively DNR'ed and EE'ed transfers - made me laugh until I couldn't breathe.
Love that they mention how important film is for archival purposes. Can’t reliably archive on digital.

We know, thats the reason why you don't see the shark that very often. And thats what made the film in the end, only the sound of the shark is enough.

@@Titan52berg Production Designer Joe Alves drew up the look of the shark. Mechanical Effects master Bob Mattey built it. He made the Squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
@@Titan52berg No sorry they didn't use Carl Rizzo with Bruce. They used Carl in Austraila for a couple of very quick shots of a REAL Great white that was only about 12 feet long. Circling Carl's half scale cage. The guy who did all the tank work with Bruce in a full sized cage was a guy named Dick Warlock. They didn't have to upscale Bruce. He was 25 feet long.

Lucas made de 97 modifications over the original negatives. Before it, he made a laser-disc copy of the masters, and that it´s the one on the DVD extras of the single edition of each movie. We are dammed.
