never bought any seiko divers.... until I saw this very same watch but in different colour varient ~ sbdc085. it's a breath of fresh air from my rolex SD. I like it a lot, quality wise it does fall short comparing with the SD but for the price? this is probably the best budget diver ever made by seiko imho with all the bells and whistles. fits well on my 6.75" wrist. with this piece, alongside SD, ChrisWard trident elite 1000, I consider my humble diver collection is complete.
I wear mine.daily on a hirsch pure rubber strap. Such a quality piece they made. From the domed sapphire too the machining of the case, dial, and hands. Diashield coating also is a hugh plus!!!
I have a JDM SBDCO51, been calling it my “modern MAS” for a nickname. The bracelet is top notch, 20 mm with great integration with the case. Anyone who feels the watch is too large at 42 should not worry, watch does not wear big.
I've been calling mine the "blue nostalgia" because it's based off the very 1st Seiko and we'll it's blue. I know it's a copy of a copy(SLA) but that's essentially what it is. It's as though the designer had "the good old days" on his mind heavily.
I agree, preferred the silicon and recently ordered one, they did offer it on bracelet (18 months since your post) but have had sizing issues and problems with Seiko bands, pins etc. unless just bite the bullet and pay a jeweler $15-25 to have it done, price difference between the two is $100.00. If I want to move to a replacement bracelet from like Strapcode whom will make it for the watch specific, higher quality and a few bucks more,. Usually buy on bracelet but for reasons explained didn't. Have had troubles with a Sumo, and nice matching silicone bracelet does look thin at 20mm. I'm sure I can find something better.
I like the size. I think a crown signed "1965" would have been a nice nod to the original reference. Lately, I've been appreciating my Seikos and Grand Seikos with more wrist time than my more expensive swiss brands. This watch will be my 3rd mid/high end Seiko addition in the past few weeks. Wasn't planning on any other buys with Basel so close, but todays price seems a good value...
I bought this model SBDC053 about a month ago along with a SRPC39 and a SKX007J1, the chapter rings are fine,. My problem is that in all three models the hour hand does not aligned with with the minute hand when at 12 and 6 which means the hour hand is always lagging behind when at the top of the hour. Its disappointing that Seiko's QC is this bad in products ranging in cost from $230 to $490. I also purchased a Seiko SRPC61 Malaysia model for under $135 and everything with the watch is near perfect. I've owned Seiko's during most of my military career and never been disappointed but this new batch hitting the market today leaves a lot to be said about Seiko as a company.
My JDM watch was called the SBDC053. Not sure where you got your reference number from. Also, the dial IS sunburst (under the blue color). The crystal is not doing the sunburst effect.
Their RRPs are nonsense so now the hype has died down this is not much more than a sumo but has sapphire crystal, diashield and better finishing. They have a similar watch with a newer and I'm guessing better movement out now but prices are still retail on that
I used to think the same thing until I thought about how much it would cost to service the watch later. If you want them to put a 8L35 it's gonna cost you around $400-$500 to service the watch so it doesn't make sense for them to put that movement in this watch. 6R15 I think is the right movement for it.
I tend to agree and I usually wear 42-45mm watches (Sinn U1 as a daily wearer). Had the black one (SBCD051) and flipped it. The dial looks too big in proportion to the thin bezel. If they reduced the case size down to 40-41mm, the proportions would be perfect.
Seiko will NEVER do 40mm again for a diver bro. That ship has sailed. My Limited edition SLA017 is an exception, but I had to pay thousands of dollars for one.... anyways y'all better stop dreaming, Seiko have made their decision.
@@seabiscuit726142 Haha, okay you and salinas, are correct and I am mistaken. Wow, who would have thought it possible! But they've really diluted the 62MAS line now, with dozens of models! I've parted ways with my SLA017 and have been the proud owner of the SPB149 :)

My father in law took me into a watch store and I tried it on, loved it. He ended up buying it for me. Trust me, because if the under side bevels the watch wears fantastic for the size. The lumbrite paint Seiko uses is exceptionally long lived. I'd say its the best in the industry. You can still see a glow after several hours.
