This feels like Atlantis, the lost empire Noodle is like Milo, he really want to make the proyect for the sake of making the proyect, driving by the desire to know, to see, how that would ammount, just to at least try it and say, "hey we did it", meanwhile Sam is here as the jaded old experienced bomb expert Vinny, so used to all this crap and only thinking about how much this is gonna pay.
52:00 That's literally what Resonite does. It's engine let's you edit whatever object you want in real time while playing and it has a whole community of creatives doing funky shit in it
I think a game based on the cardboard aesthetic would be really interesting and refreshing. I love to imagine what an fps or quake/doomlike would look like in that format. I think you guys are onto something very exciting.
god you guys have so much chemistry, as an aspiring game dev (also named sam lol) its really uplifting to see the real depth of how projects as ambitious as these come to fruition. best of luck to yall in accomplishing this
10:00 the ten minute one is a parody, its a minute, fifty seconds. this isnt me being unfunny, this is me trying to save people from following the ten minute one as the comments indicate is common.
I got to say as a level designer photo scanned levels really wouldn't change my day all that much. When I work on a level it isn't art passed until I'm already done with the layout it's just now instead of sending it to a 3d art program it's recreated as a set. I do think there may be some issues with getting scales right between the set and the layout but depending on the game type that may or may not actually be an issue.
considering how much the cutscenes in UNBEATABLE's trailer kick ass I must assume your tool was good (props to those animators man they're wild so hyped for that game)
This idea sounds super cool to make a game like that especially with those restraints, and with the card board themeing. I think the idea of filming it all to as a justification for using the sponsor money sounds super fun and interesting both to watch or even participate in. I am an amiture game dev who is going to school for game programming, and make small games in my free time, and working on a project like this would be super fun! If you guys are looking for people for a team for this project I would love to join, as I find the challenge that this presents and the concept for the game super intriguing. Loving the podcast, keep up the awesome work!
Congrats on learning Unreal/gamedev, it can be really daunting when you start but ultimately it is mainly a lot of researching and having your head in your hands at 2am. I've been using UE 4/5 for years now and there are still significant moments where now I am the village idiot, destroyer of performance & 2 whole weeks of my own time. Wishing you luck dude and I can't wait to see what you make with it^^
As someone who's currently completing their animation degree and has the (end game, not near future) goal of having their own studio while directing their own content, I'd LOVE to talk with Noodle about the process of getting to where he's gotten, or even doing an interview. I'm incredibly taken aback by how much of an animation platform has been built here. And not only that, but collaborating with Sam to create games, it's crazy to me how many possibilities arise from UA-cam as a platform
When Sam talked about how he wants to throw himself into a firepit and then to figuring out how to solve the problem I got thinking how you respond this into a game. I feel like often Story games create problems for you to solve and I think it would be kind of funny, if you are the cause of the problems, or a least the game leads you to believe so. ...just a fleeting thought.
It might be super fucking cool to see a little nightmares-esk cardboard game. Specifically the perspective would work wonderfully cause is (almost) the same perspective is done for the videos, just a little higher up. I personally would be so down for a noodle style horror game where if you see the monster before you're supposed to it's "t-pose" is just a double birdie to the player specifically.
I’m sure one or both of you have seen it before, but the Legend of Bum-Bo has that sort of stick and paper doll art style. I think they did it really well but it also is due to the type of game. But it could still be a good reference point for art styles that match Noodles video style
The ending is really funny to me as I always play Mario Kart 8 online while listening to this podcast. Adds the extra bit of immersion. Best friends’ parents’ divorce simulator 2024
free idea: cardboard environment shooter, players are tiny blood bangs and the walls are destructable but only if ur bullet hits an enemy first, or just like dead players melt environment through soaking
Your idea reminds me of William osman / friends building Mr beast electronics for his video. Fascinating to me, despite never seeing anything Mr beast at all.
As a fellow game dev, this sounds like an amazing opportunity and project to get insight into! Like, no matter if it falls apart, it's cancelled/postponed, it under-performs, it does decently or it's a smash hit, the idea of having a transparent dev log of the whole thing where there are almost no strings attached to what the project *needs* to be would definitely be great to see the journey of. It's a very unique scenario where you can get funding for something like that, and it sounds like production for a project like that can be either a game developer/designer's dream come true or worst nightmare. Either way, it sounds like an amazing journey and I'm always glad when more people can come into contact with the development side of games!
On the topic of making bad ideas during production for the story, I say you deliberately make one bad decision right up front, and then see what that does along the way doing everything after that correctly.
Around 54:06, I am reminded of Tomorrow Corporation's tech demo where they showed off their in-house game engine tooling. It is incredibly cool stuff. Since I've seen that video it is always in the back of my mind how much better my tooling could be and that I should make sure to keep working on the tools I use to do development in conjunction to whatever I'm developing. ua-cam.com/video/72y2EC5fkcE/v-deo.html
"Reality will always hit you in the face like a object that will hit you in the face" truly inspirational
“Right now I’m working on something that I thought would take 3hours, last week”… estimation in development… it’s the pits.
dang it it's not on Spotify yet, here i go downloading UA-cam Music again
Update: it's on Spotify rn

The longer i learn about sam, the longer i start to think he's a masochist.
Episode reminiscent of the "Before" photo of those effects of War posts.

It would also work neatly in a engine like doom
Hell yeah
Edit: As a computer science student whose name is also Sam, I feel like I've found a kindred spirit

Can't wait for the final episode where it's just Billy saying that you two are no longer friends
this sounds like the average process of using analog synthesizers. the mess of cables in the corner of my room causes me misery

I've been waiting for this for like the last month!
bi weekly from here onward!!
@@final_V3 wait really? This is just going to be part of my schedule now I guess.
Been trying to learn Unreal, with no background in computer anything. It has made me feel a _harrowing_ kind of stupid I didn't know I had in me.

Julian you’re a great interviewer. You’re real bad at being interviewed, but man you’re great at getting questions answered well by others
what prompted this lol

Thanks Billy also julian and sam I guess
You should see the instructions on turning a single LCD display on for a microcontroller

The Cherno channel is making a game engine "Hazel" for that hot reloading thing.

Armchair Historian released a video with a retrospective on what he learnt from attempting to develop his own indie game. It was pretty interesting.
There's that binding Of Isaac spinoff game that's seems to be made out of all cardboard.
ITS BAAAAACK
WOOOOOOOHHHH!
YEAH BABY, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! 😂
can't wait for the cardboard movie!

You should do a second podcast called pod ween satan where you just talk about ween all day
noodle doom?
What engine are you using? (Godot would be my recommendation)
There's an interesting idea for a way to rate games. How long would it take a player to 9/11?
waow
I've gotten 26 minutes in and still don't quite understand what's happening
نايس
game development isn't real I think
Haven't watched the video yet you're wrong
Please be joking 💀
this video is interesting and made me shit pants😳
My favorite podcast on Spogify.
