Not worlds first. Got a civet cat once with a bone dart through its throat. The animal easily fitted into my shirt pocket. Had a friendly doctor remove the dart in the local hospital surgery. After that my wife and i kept it in our pockets near our beating hearts. It got bigger and bigger till it was about a meter long. Fed it on various things but it loved small milk bananas. Very clean in the house. Loved to play rough. Loved to sleep in our laps or around my neck like a scarf. Fought with the local cats and dogs. Died at about 7 years from a bite from a krait. A great animal
Civets are indeed closer in relation to weasels with a closer common ancestor but all three: civets, weasels and even the domestic cat are in the Feliformia sub-order of carnivores. All three are actually in separate families though, civets = Viverridae, weasels = Mustelidae and cats = Felidae.
SO CUTE!

Amazing, thanks for the info! Was it an Owston's Civet?
@@WildPlanetTrust sorry don't know. There are two types where we lived. A luak and a rassie. The rassie being smaller. Ours was a luak
Are these captive born ?
This individual was indeed, Lien was born to parents Bao and Nam and hand reared at Newquay Zoo. She currently lives at Shaldon Zoo.
I love kitties and cats but which type of kitty is this?
This is the Owston's palm civet, native to Vietnam, Laos and southern China.
Civets are close to weasels not cats.

Do Vietnamese zoos even have this species?
