In my view "Allegedly Dancefloor Tragedy" is arguably the epitome of darkwave. Aside from it being about the only song that most people know by Suspiria, it contains all the defining elements of the genre. And it's a classic!
Imagine dying before this came out and never got the chance to listen to excellent music...so i'm not sad I wasn't born in the 70s because I could have also been born in the many centuries before
Hi Sanityassassin Good evening I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….
Absolutely spectacular! Right up there with Alice from Sisters of Mercy and Bela Lugosi's dead by Bauhaus...phenomenal beat...I am thoroughly depressed at how unimaginative and boring music is today, please find some creativity, get bigger balls and stop copying sound...God the 80s-90s had some garbage too but my goodness how innovative the sound was...
I think a few people have their genres mixed up... Suspiria is goth, 45 grave is punk, and darkwave is a genre unto itself, just like coldwave, shoegaze, deathrock, horror punk, etc. Try not to believe everything that Wikipedia says.
@Waver80 Unsteadiness? Defining genres is necessary and rational. Each music genre is defined by musical sound, lyrics, influences, technique, etc. To ignore or mislabel the artist and the art they create for what it is...is just disrespectful.
I met Mark at "Carnival of souls" in '97 or '98. Spent a few hours hanging out at Trovor's mail order shop in Nottingham the next day. Think Trevor's band was called Midnight Configuration and I think the mail order company / record company was called Nightbreed. Mark sent me a copy of an album he did with a band after called Intravenous(spelling?), all the way to sunny South Africa. Was the last time Garden of Delight performed live before doing Diary of Dreams.
I totally agree with NephilimsField (the very user name suggests good taste), but could I recommend dancing to the song with a wan, slightly disgruntled, angsty look on your face? It adds to the experience no end. Cider, black and Marlboro optional.
@ElegyofMadeline there is nothing classic about this band. christian death were classic deathrock. 45 grave were classic deathrock. suspiria is just from a new wave of darkwave bands from the 90's.

The Night is by far my fav Suspiria song. I love Matthew’s style! One of my biggest inspirations fs.
My favorite Suspiria song has been you bleed me since 2006
