It was upside down when you found it because it fell out of the tree you landed in. 😂😂😂😂
I agree he was clearly in a tree at the end of the flight 🤣🤣
“I wonder if something attacked it.”
Ya, that pine tree Yucca you plowed into.
@@DisgruntledPigumon he is good UA-camr
Lmao..
@@DisgruntledPigumon this comment is so funny 🤣🤣🤣
So many bigger drone reviewers on this platform, but I strongly prefer your content for its rawness. No crazy edits and no salesman-like voiceover. You're super chill. Subscribed.
Thanks for pushing it to the limit in a real world test, barely any reviewers have done this. You are the second. I just saw a vid of some indonesian guy make it 5 km out and back but he was flying towards a mountain and over there a lot less radio noise. He said get guards are bad for long range because the wind hit it so much.
Still waiting for the range test on the mini 3 pro…
Feel free to do your own brah 🤙🤙🤙
That's the spirit bro, he will soon upload
It'll come, it takes a lot of work to edit through all this stuff! Can't wait either!
Dude was way too relaxed when the battery went down to 0%
Btw, I’m from the same island :). I’ve Always supported local families, even when they move to the mainland. Unfortunately I lost all of my drones, and some items that you’ve reviewed back in 2021. Our house was the one that had an electrical fire in the rain, 1hour into the new year. Unfortunately I’ve haven’t been able to afford another drone, and build a custom drone to help with SAR. My custom drone could mount LiDAR and IR/FLIR attachments. Since I’m a 100% disabled Veteran, I used to be a dog handler with Maui dog tags and helped with assisting in with the two missing women Moira/Scott. But a year later I moved to Vegas to become a weapons instructor at NAFB. I got to train teams on VIP/HVT extraction and protection escorting, but my injuries from deployments finally got the VA to rate me from a 0% and 7 years of fighting for my issues being all service related. 03-13 I served in the army and straight to OIF outta high school and OEF up until 2012. 7 deployments and the VA denied everything that I claimed when I got out. Thanks to many of the people who played the system and because of stolen valor. That’s what made it really difficult in hawaii to claim for anything service related. Plus the VA in hawaii in general treat you as a someone trying to cheat the system, or a drug addict trying to get pills. Nevada, Texas, and Washington were the only states that helped my claims, and all of the staff actually cared. Unfortunately in hawaii, most of the staff are disgruntled veterans or civilians that just are there to collect their pay, and like to set off new veterans who come in for help, just so they can utilize their power by having the armed guard remove you from the building. Anyways, I hope in the future I’ll be able to pick up an electric bike and a drone. Keep up with the content, you’ve always done great reviews with items that I’ve been interested in, but it’s hard to tell if those content creators are being unbiased during reviews, because of the sponsorship with certain brands. So that’s why I’m glad to have found your channel when you started out! Mahalo & Aloha.🎃
Thank you for the video. I had been wondering just how far the Avata could go. You really pushed the limit. Much appreciated.
Man you got some guts… I would have been freaking out!!! (Novice) my heart was pounding, just watching that. And you remained so calm. 😮 sheesh!
You are insane!! I can’t believe you’d go out that far to 50% without giving yourself some headroom to return. Also can’t believe that you didn’t just land before it got to 0%. It really is good to see what happens when it does get to 0% so glad that you dived in first.
I love how your home position is displayed on the screen! That is a awesome feature!
Good range test Dustin, when ever I fly for distance, I always turn back at between 60 and 55% just in case of wind or loss of power.
Flying my drone I use my cave daving practice 1/3 in 1/3 out 1/3 reserve
Glad you found it and nice area to fly
So awesome. Here I am nail bitting and hearing your calming voice and level headed approach is so inspiring on where I need to be in my own personal crisisis. Great vid
The second half of the battery is never going to have the performance of the first, so turning at 50% in calm conditions pretty much guarantees you won't make it back. If you fly out with a tailwind then you are double stuffed.
Thanks for that info.
@@dawidpolser no worries.
That was cool. Balls of steel mate.
Your range tests are the best !
It's not a long range drone like it's big brother, but interesting to see through your eyes (and not mine...lol) how far the transmission would go. Great drone for proximity flying and cinematic shots in close range. Glad you didn't lose it, and you got to test the find my drone fly app which works really well as expected. Thumbs up ! ;-)
So that controller works kinda like a joystick on airplane video games? That's SO COOL!!!
I am in the process of choosing a nice drone and Avata is a good candidate
Thanks for this man, Subscribed to your channel
I love watching your tests... but they REALLY stress me out. Every single time! Great video, again!
This is like someones first drone flight, casually going under 50% battery one way, and then pushing against tree branches 25 feet into the air and calling it "nice and easy landing" :) That's why your drone was upside down, it fell down from that height.
just wanted to say... it has landed in a tree, nothing attacked it.. it just fell down from a branch. :D .
Nice video anyways.
3.5km for a little cinewhoop is crazy good!
Totally stressing wit u there ser! Was so good to see u find it in 1 piece!
Another great Dustin range test!,2 miles and perfect video feed, this makes me excited for when/if the 03 air unit is made available
I wonder if you do a lot of sports because I don't know how your heart can support all those scary moments.
Compared to your Avata 1 range test video from the same location. Things to note: Sport mode can achieve same range as Normal mode, Avata 2 seems to have similar transmission range as Avata 1 but can go slightly farther due to longer battery life, Avata 2 battery life seems to match max transmission distance well in average green environment

I’m digging the new goggles. To each their own but I’m actually very impressed with the DJI Avata.
Really impressed on how far it went out. The technology in the DJI drones is absolutely amazing. Excellent range test Dustin!! 😊
Last night I ordered the DJI Avata Explorer Combo including a hard case, Fly more kit, RC controller and hard case. Just under $2k. Supposed to arrive tomorrow before 10PM. I've had the Mini 3 Pro and was really impressed with it's cinematic features. But it was time to start getting into FPV. The Avata seems to be both a cinematic and FPV so I think it's a great transition into FPV before I go full balls to the wall FPV!
So glad to have you back…. You’re videos are top notch
That owl at the start is nice 😮
I got stressed a bit. Good kind of stress I guess ‘cause this one got a happy ending. Glad DJI Avata made it. I guess my choice got validated. I love this drone!
When you went ahead and "locked the doors" with a key fob had me actually cackling
00:14 the owl scared the shit out of me for a moment
You were at a pretty high altitude with wind so that nailed the range.
It will be interesting to see if Dji make a battery for these that has a higher amp hour rating in the future, I know that this has been done successfully with power tool batteries whilst keeping the actual battery case size the same. This drone is currently number 1 at the top of my list, the shrouded prop blades being of importance with my intended use surveying land. Thanks for a great review and hi from Australia.
Brilliant stuff - your drone reviews and test-flights are by far, FAR, the best out there. Keep up the great work!
Good thing you recover the avata. Enjoyed watching always the range test. Best regards from Cebu,Philippines
This video sold me on the drone. I was curious how hard it would be to find if I had to land it somewhere in a pinch and that is exactly what I was hoping for. Very cool!
Just be sure that theres battery left as the drone will make a beeping sound when your looking for it, but it needs some battery left.
Omg man you got way bigger balls than I do!! I was stressing and I’m only watching lol!! Awesome video
😂🍻
It’s worth the money highly recommended. Superfun
The RANGE TEST needs to be done with some at the other end to receive the Drone. We need the full range and not having to trim it down in half due to RH.
I always enjoy ur videos Dustin! This one couldn't be different!
Dave, Australia here. Great video. I was told by a few people here that select auto lands is better when battery is low as the computer. Calculates a lot better than flying it normally back
i flew 5km and back(10km total) with my mini2 really did not expect to reach that far but did :)
Nice fun flight
this range is crazy omg.
This looks like a perfect place for astrophotography (dark skies, no light pollution). Just another hobby you might wanna try. :)
That was a fun video! I just got into fpv this year and I caught the fpv bug bad! Your videos are a lot of fun to watch! They keep me interested! Take care! happy holidays
I just got into FPV in the early fall of 2022 also. Super fun & addictive hobby for sure. I started out with the Eachine Novice 4, Long Range RTF FPV Drone Package. Bought the DJI FPV drone package a month later, with the Fly More Combo, Hard Case, & Motion controller. I really like the motion controller, it's loads of fun, & I hardly use the regular controller now. I'm considering getting the Avata, but I'm just not sure about it.
@@sagemajka4871 awesome! I’ve been looking at the dji fpv and avata also! I love the camera drone features to be honest! Like return to home and auto hover stuff and yes would love the motion controller so my daughter can fly! I got the fpv controller for Christmas! :) I also like the new iflight chimara7 03! I may get that! Take care man! See you around
Should've dropped altitude! That would've saved you a bit from the wind!
Dude right? It was painful to watch. Go lower for crying out loud.
Going lower is another gamble in itself 🍻
@@DustinDunnill sure, just don't hit any trees. But that's literally what they tell you to fight high winds. Lower your altitude, there's less brutal gusts. You would've made it further.
Boy ... you are really one lucky sob on your range tests .... ha ha. I think you turned back at 48%, so next time ... make it 52%. Always a thrill on your range tests. Now do one for the Mini 3 Pro. Cheers!
Hey Dustin, sweet vid, however... Waiting patiently for mini 3 pro Range test! Thanks man 313
Waiting too 🤙
i love your range tests dustin keeps me on the edge of my seat .
You could have descend lower to avoid the high wind and save some battery for returning.... i dont know why u stay high
Better transmission, just feels safer also.
A few days ago I ordered the avata cant wait to get it
I just got one too. It's really fun. Only issue is the battery life and charging. You need to get the fly more kit + a 100w charger to get the most out of the charging rate (faster charge). The regular rate is low on the single charger.
Awesome test and great validation of the capability of the Avata.
Finally! I was expecting mini 3 Pro first😂
Got me on edge but I guess DJI Avata’s made for thrilling flights. Would 100% want the whole fpv experience.
Thanx Dustin on my opinion I rather say its not that a wind resistant but it keeps up on its tracking on its way and the gimbal doing its work there manh, at least it tried its best, keep it up sir.
Just started watching. "Hopefully not too much of a nail biter" - you said it Dustin! I have no nails left and half of my right arm is gone from your range tests! 🤪 😜
Doesn't it go 60 mph in manual? That is a mile a minute. You should range test it in that mode.
It's crazy bro.. you are so calm! How do you keep yourself sane and calm when your battery runs out? Well done!
Hi I'm wondering why you didn't fly in sport mode wouldn't that have given you a greater distance?
And magically not use up the battery faster?
Always good to see a DD range test. It’s what I liked about your channel when I first subscribed years ago. Very impressive ✌️
That's awesome. Great test. I'd love to see you take it straight out to see how far it will truly go. instead of worrying about flying home, have a several destinations picked out that you know you can land if need to. Sometimes like a spot at 3.5, 4 and 4.5 miles and try to push it to the 4.5mile spot.
At 10:20 , the birds you see are thermaling, so they are in uplift, the AVATA drift naturally into the lift, like we do in paragliding, it explains why the drone needs to correct to the right... Edit: you can also see battery estimation time goes up, another sign drone is in the lift...
This is what I wanted to see! I would have turned back after 1 mile lol. I just ordered mine from DJI for 1700$ yikes!
That was exciting, wondering if you were going to make it back or not! You've got the perfect location there off your 2nd-floor deck for range tests. Such an incredibly long line-of-sight. Looking forward to a test using Sport mode!
Thanks for the range test review.
FYI, drones with lithium-ion batteries you can extend the battery by not charging the battery to 100% or going down to 0% going down to maybe 25 or 30% no lower than that and charging up to 80% and doing that overtime. Well add extra cycles to the battery That will extend it overtime. The health of it.
Dustin You are the best in UA-cam and demonstrate the capabilities of DJI planes
You are nuts dude. That thing isn't made to take high winds. You are lucky you didn't lose it. Electric chopper is cool. Please post a link
The chopper link should be in description below video 🍻
Love your range tests 🤙👍
Still waitining on the range test for the mini 3😢
Awesome range test!!🤙🏾
Lol, this video was great but when you hit 10% I got so nervous.
I was squeezing for you when you took that turn with 48% battery. I always turn back with 55% the extra 5% compensate for wind
the reason why it's eating a lot of battery on the way back is because it's battling against the wind coming from the right. That would definitely add up to the power consumption so it's always safe to return at around 60%, even better at 65%
Great video 👍🏻
Answered a couple of questions I was pondering.
Oh wow i didn't expect that far,,great test as always 👌👌
Really thinking strongly about getting myself one of these.
Hope you're enjoying your new mainland life bro! I'm stoked I got to meet you before you left Hawaii 😎🤙🏼. And thanks again for hooking me up with the RC goodies
Right on Jessie 🤙
Great test The battery is the biggest restriction on this drone but I love flying mine.when you flew past 50 percent I thought there was trouble ahead Great Video bud 👍 and great Recovery
idk why you risked flying below 10%, let alone below 5%, asking for a crash lol.
Way to push the distance. Didnt know it could fly as far without any connection issue or video lag. I will be in Kaneohe in a couple of weeks. Think I'm going to take my Avata and fly around Chinaman's Hat. Great video. Thanks.
Hey Dustin , still making Triller Movies ? I didn't think the Avata , would have gone this far at all , Amazing ! Nice Brother , take care .
Great video - brave man... going out that far. 😵💫
Dude. Your range tests are riveting.
This is what I’ve been waiting for.
Love these range tests ❤
great test this drone was not made for long range its a cinewhoop, 95% of the time you should be flying low to the ground and objects range like this is better suited to a Air2s, I would give the example that this test was similar to 0-60 speed testing a Prius that car isnt made for speed and this drone isnt made to fly at these altitudes and distances. The tiling is caused by strong wind current catching the frame prop guards. This common for any cinewhoop flying at higher altitudes. In very strong wind it will even flip the drone over.
Never spend 50% and turn back home in a straight line flight.
60% remin is the max.
I've done it many times on other DJI camera drones even down to the 40's% and making it back. I'm finding their FPV drones don't seem to have the same reserve 🍻
Been a minute glad your back
🤣"I wonder if something tried to attack it"
Just a pine tree. Good test, as always.
You have the biggest balls of any drone channel. Awesomeness
Great and very informative video! Glad it had a happy ending! 😃
The bad thing about letting the battery get so low like that, is that if the battery dies before you find it, then the Find My Drone doesn't work and your drone will be lost.
The find my drone works fine when drone battery dies as seen in the video. It logs the last known GPS point of drone to the goggles. Unless the drone was to die way high in the air and fall far laterally from that point it would be difficult to find but DJI doesn't allow that to happen with the forced landing at a certain voltage 🍻
I can see your hand shaking when you're going back. I know how that feels when the battery is about to die and your drone is super far.
Had a good time watching this Dustin!
Hey Dustin this was awesome test 👏 🍻😉
I’m way too anxious of a person to do this
I mean, how did you expect to make it back when you started to turn around right at 50% ?? 😅 Also, you kill your batteries when you drain them so low
You sound new to DJI drones & their capabilities 🍻
@@DustinDunnill Been flying dji since 2016 with a Phantom 3, 😅
If the wind was to your back when you turned around you might have had a chance but you should definitely turn before hitting 50%. That's basic math not DJI experience.
yes wind is always a factor. It's experience with MANY newer DJI products. They are new FPV drones but experiences with their camera drones have been stellar at flying long after 0%. DJI nis new to FPV centric drones don't seem to have the same buffer which I've been experiencing in my recent reviews 🍻
@@DustinDunnill Yeah I hear that...How do you like the motion controller compared to the regular gaming style remote as far as flying full Acro? Can you fly acro with the motion controller?
