- Review of the James Baroud Evasion Evo XXL roof top tent after an 8-day camping trip to Moab, Utah and western Colorado.
Update: We still love our James Baroud roof top tent. Some further thoughts about the tent after owning it for several years and over 100 nights in the tent:
• Jeep Overland Camp Kit...
this is ,much bigger than the Ikamper 2.0. What good discovery. I was about to pull the trigger on the Ikamper.
Another great video and an excellent review. You have a really solid adventure setup.
Scott
Thanks for the review It looks like a great tent
just put a ribbon of rubber relative tight around the middle off the tentfabric. so it will pull the fabric in the inner direction....
no further problems like since 04:54
We have one in Australia, mounted on a camper trailer. 4 foot off the ground, have added air mattress inside, love it for ease of opening and closing, Have not worked out how to make the fan work? love it.
There is a switch for the fan inside the housing unit towards the ceiling. Shine a flashlight and you'll see it.
I got mind a few moths ago and love it. Mind if I ask where that camp site is?
Appreciate the review. Also wish review was done far longer then after one 8 day trip.
We have slept over 100 nights in the tent and I will make a follow up video soon. The tent is holding up well and is easier to close now that is broken in.
Great video, thank you! We have the Frontrunner rack on our landcruiser too and love it! Those guys are amazing re: customer service! We currently have a Tepui but are looking at this tent... have you slept in it through high winds and rain? Our tepui never had a drop in it through all the storms we’ve slept through but we’re looking for a quick set up and considering this James Baroud. Thanks in advance for any help!
We've camped in the James Baroud in a few major rain and wind storms. The one storm was so windy that our Jeep was rocking. But not a drop of water inside. Top quality.
New to vehicle-mounted tents. How much does the tent weigh? Is it easy enough to install/remove to only have it on for camping trips, or is this more of a ‘permanent install’ kind of deal?
Thanks!
This roof top tent weighs 160 lbs. Although not too heavy to remove, it is bulky and we keep it permanently mounted on our Jeep.
Great review!
I came really close to buying that tent but one video I saw made it look like you could not even sit upright in it. It seems like you would hit your head if you tried to move very much. we went with a CVT Mt Rainier. tons more head room. the views are not as nice as the evasion though. setup is tougher too but I would rather have the headroom.
I'm 6'4" tall and can easily sit up inside the James Baroud without hitting my head.
Definitely face the tent while going down the ladder instead of butt scooching. Way safer especially in the middle of the night. Should consider a pee bottle for yourself and a silicone funnel for the misses so you don't have to go out of the tent :)
How height will the jeep be when put the tent on?
How is covered the cieling ( internal roof tent material) ?
The ceiling is a gray mesh fabric that has held up well with no stains.
I’m glad you exit feet first id imagine exiting head first might be a tad difficult. P.S. what is the shell made out of i cant find it on their website is it ABS plastic?
Fiber glass i think
Fiberglass
When you say it has just enough length, does that imply the smaller models wouldn't be big enough? ( In also 6"4)
For my size I think I would feel cramped in the regular size when camping with my wife. If you are camping solo the smaller model would suit you just fine if you sleep diagonally a little bit.
I'm also wondering what you mean by the length being just enough. Do you touch the edges at all when sleeping straight or is there a bit of space at head/toe? I'm 6'6" and considering this for our family of 3.
Interesting, I didn’t know the doors didn’t close all the way around (bottom). That’s making me reconsider :/
It really isn't an issue and the velcro is holding up well. I try to seal the velcro on the bottom of the doors from the outside of the tent before we crawl in to go to sleep.
Rob Lee good to know. But it’s somewhat short in length. I’m a little over 6’2”
@@forkedroad I'm 6' 4" and have room to store my hiking boots by the door. No problem in length with the XXL.
it looked like the Headliner is Sagging ??
Nope - no problem with that.
What size is your roof top tent? Cuz I am planing to get the same size as yours
That is the James Baroud EVO XXL. They make a standard Evo also.
do you have the link to their website , i try to search for it with no luck

Hi. Good review. How did you secure it to the platform? Thanks
The tent is secured to the Front Runner roof rack with Front Runner tall roof tent mounting brackets. We used 6 total.
Hey Rob - Are you still using this? Have you had much experience with it in the rain/weather? I see you had it in a storm - Do you think it does ok without an awning of any sort? Any complaints you have about it?
This roof top tent does an amazing job in bad weather. It is completely waterproof and has kept us warm in very cold camping conditions. Highly recommended other than the high price. But I believe you get what you pay for.
You say it's pricey how much is it tell us the price? My friend tell us the price the price the price
It was $4,000 and the price has gone up since I purchased.
@@robleeco Thank you so much, my friend, thank you.
How much does it weigh?
145lbs.
I have a JK Rubicon also and would need a roof rack. Can you tell me what roof rack you use please? I am also curious how much height it adds to your Jeep when closed including the rack? Thank you.
I have the Front Runner Slimline II roof rack with their tall roof tent mounts. I also considered Gobi and Rhino racks. The rack plus the James Baroud tent adds 16" to the overall height of the vehicle.
Thank you very much. That gives us a place to start from. I have a 4" lift on mine so am curious if I can still park in my garage. Thanks for the great videos
$4000??!?
Mark Stevens wanna play you gotta pay
*Yikes* 4k rich mans luxury “tent”
I don’t have to “pay to play”. To each his own. Your money 💰 but not mine.
$5k now
Good review, but HECk No! Not for over $5k.
Which country of manufacture?
This tent is manufactured in Portugal.
