Got bored at midnight so I decided to finally make this video. I've been meaning to for a long long time and someone on reddit said that someone should so here we are.

Rich gets grabbed and Barbara and Josh immediately stop even though they have a marker to run to until Rich is freed and they immediately start running to the marker again.
That abrupt ending scared me lmfao but thank you for this omg I love learning hidden mechanics for games I love

The problem I mostly have with survivors is them getting caught on the environment..... especially near the exit point...... causing them to get killed or waste TONS of valuable time trying to get them unstuck.... They just get stuck on objects and cant move. It's infuriating.
It is isn't it? The potted plant to the left of the warehouse door in Paradise Plaza has done me in plenty
this may not help with getting stuck at the ledge etc, but i like to use the magazine that the cult leader drops, it makes survivors not be scared to run into danger and therefore they stay much closer to frank, making it way easier to escort them

The ai has its issues especially with pathfinding but it still fascinates me how complex it is especially for the time and it disappoints instead of improving on that aspect and add more differing personalities types that can be better understood by the player they made the ai so competent that there’s no challenge in managing them anymore
Could you elaborate on those differing personalities? I wanna hear out your take
@@cole009productions7 ok here’s some examples there’s the dependent type as seen with Natalie who will only follow Jeff and not listen to Frank at all then there’s the aggressive type like Burt who will charge into danger and take every chance he can to attack and there’s the cowardly type like Aaron who prefers fleeing over fighting they also have unique animations where they will drop to there knees and crawl around in fear (to get them to return to normal literally knock some sense into them)
I would love to understand how their pathing works, always a nightmare when a bunch of them are stuck near vent and a scoop is closing in

Something funny is if you put the person that they follow in the safe house by themself, the person who doesn’t listen will start listening. I did it with tanya once cos of how aggressive she is i wanted to keep her in the party.
Yess also if you split them up and defect one survivor the one following them won’t defect either unless they both make physical contact , it’s kinda like they’re telling them what happened I think that’s cool also , if you wanna rp as a physcopath and lock em up haha
This might save my ass. I'm attempting a run to rescue all 50 survivors starting at level 1 and it was going well until fucking Pamela got stuck behind a clothes store counter and tried going around by pummeling her way through her sister for three hours instead of just jumping the counter
At least the coward survivors make sense. Annoying, but make sense.
Interesting explanation, I still don't fully understand why certain survivors in particular are such hazards for my casual Saint runs, like Barbara or the Asian Tourists
That is to say, when they have similar parameters to other survivors in similar areas
Female survivors have less health than male survivors and Barbara is also cowardly.
Yuu and Shinji are not only dependant on each other but extremely aggressive.
Additionally both of these you have to lead through some of the most packed areas in the game and in the instance of the Japanese Tourists during night time where the zombies are closer packed and more aggressive.

Dead Rising 1 Science. Did you figure this out by yourelf over time or did you learn it from a developer?

Played this game lots back in the day and in 2021 and onwards a bit 2 months ago or so, but never thought much about how the survs moved and function, i knew they were a hassle to deal with though. Your video will help me (and others) a lot one day when I take on the achievements with the survs, so big thanks!
Straight lines... anything in the way they get stuck
There’s actually a much easier metaphor instead of dissecting all individual survivor behaviors:
The devs wanted the zombies to be like “water” and Frank is the “boat.”
With that in mind, the smoothest you could possibly make working with this atrocious AI is by calling survivors to you as soon as you load into whatever area you’re entering. Aim you weapon to the ground. And then tell the survivors to go at your feet. Congrats, you set up point A.
After that, pave a way for your survivors by mowing down the zombies from Point A to your point B of choice at a maximum of 15 meters away from point A. MAKE SURE ITS A STRAIGHT LINE WITH AS LITTLE MAP GEOMETRY IN THE WAY AS YOU CAN.
Rinse and repeat.
Do you know if a high frame rate affects their path finding?
afaik the only effect higher fps has on survivors is it makes it harder for them to push through zombie crowds.

It's a cosmetic you can get it in the North Plaza near Seons Food & Stuff. There is a knife shop right next to it and you can get a shaved head look.
