I don’t like getting involved in any kind of drama, but here’s my two cents. I haven’t followed the actors of AWAE closely, although I’ve been a fan of the show for as long as it’s been on Netflix, and can safely say that is one of my fond favorites. Anyway, when I went to peruse some of the cast interviews and came across this particular video, I have to say that I was more than a little surprised myself. While I wouldn’t be quick to to jump to any rash judgements about his character and intentions, I can certainly understand why some fans were upset about his behavior and comments in that particular video. I think we should be fair to both us fans and Lucas in these discussions, and recognize that we all make mistakes. None of us can truly say for certain that we know what’s going on in each other’s life or mind at any moment in time. We have a very limited perspective of only what others put out into the world at large. That said, his attitude and his comments in the Q&A did come across a bit arrogant and self-righteous. Particularly, the comments he made about phone usage among fans/supporters. It comes across hurtful and demeaning because for many fans, social media is their only means of expressing their love and encouragement to the actors - including him - and producers, and take time out of their day to do so, and support the show. This is coming from someone who avoids social media - with the exceptions of UA-cam and email (and even this I limit) - like the plague. I suspect that he never intended to come across this way, but was just not thinking clearly, and simply spoke clumsily. I cannot think that anyone would be so intentionally rude to those who support them. The other matter was the filmed make out... Yeah, it was uncomfortable. It happened sudden and erratically, and made many fans uncomfortable solely because it was obviously a very private moment that probably shouldn’t have been recorded and posted for real world to witness. Without being judgmental, I suspect based on his behavior that he could’ve been a little intoxicated or under the influence of something during the recording of the video. I don’t belieber this was ever intended to be filmed. so I actually find Lucas and Shannon to both be quite nice and funny people after watching the whole video and some other videos of theirs (but then again none of us know either of them irl so we can't really judge). This was a long time ago, and my only problem is how they never adressed him BLATANTLY disrespecting Amybeth... What's not right is being publicly rude to fans because no one forced you to become an actor and you really should know better. @@zoedoudt9386 from the videos of shannon and lucas that have circulated, it seems shannon kind of walked herself into getting hate with how jealous and possessive she acts with lucas...you can tell from her body language and what she says when Amybeth comes up in conversation that she's incredibly insecure, and even though Lucas as her boyfriend will have done his best to make her feel secure with him, her insecurities and jealous personality goes beyond that. She went with him EVERYDAY to set, imagine how awkward she would've made things for Lucas and Amybeth, and Amybeth hasn't even done anything wrong! I think the awkward kiss in this video that, initiated by lucas just because shannon mentioned Amybeth is clearly how Shannon's toxicity and mad insecurities have manifested in their relationship. She purposely mentioned Amybeth to see how he'd react that's blatantly obvious. At the end of the day, she should be emotionally mature enough to realise that Anne and Gilbert are only fictional, but I mean inviting herself to watch him on set everday just seems really excessive, like she's that insecure and possessive she can't trust him around Amybeth. Of course sending threats is not okay but the lack of respect and bitterness shannon clearly gives off is noticable and is now emulated by lucas. to be perfectly honest i think he is justified to be rude about the whole situation. fans like to obsessively ship lucas and Amybeth together even tho they obviously aren't into each other like that and they expect lucas to have the exact same "perfect gentlemanly' personality that Gilbert has in the show. Its weird and puts unnecessary and uncomfortable pressure on Lucas and amybeth, as well as any real life lovers they have. People need to stop judging these actors/actresses based on the uncomfortable situations they are put in.
so I actually find Lucas and Shannon to both be quite nice and funny people after watching the whole video and some other videos of theirs (but then again none of us know either of them irl so we can't really judge). This was a long time ago, and my only problem is how they never adressed him BLATANTLY disrespecting Amybeth... I understand their anger with people comparing them to "Shirbert" and even Shannon's insecurity (although it was kinda petty to keep that kiss in..) but they never adressed the fact that he just obviously disrespected his co-star and supposedly friend. She went with him EVERYDAY to set, imagine how awkward she would've made things for Lucas and Amybeth, and Amybeth hasn't even done anything wrong! I think the awkward kiss in this video that, initiated by lucas just because shannon mentioned Amybeth is clearly how Shannon's toxicity and mad insecurities have manifested in their relationship. She purposely mentioned Amybeth to see how he'd react that's blatantly obvious. At the end of the day, she should be emotionally mature enough to realise that Anne and Gilbert are only fictional, but I mean inviting herself to watch him on set everday just seems really excessive, like she's that insecure and possessive she can't trust him around Amybeth.
