Good video, nice to see someone else using the class 4 uhmwp plates in the back to keep down weight! I must admit though I did get thorax killed in the back on labs by a raider using 5.45 BT, which a class 5 plate would probably have prevented a lot of damage from
I soley run the Gen 4 assault, FORT defender-2 and the Redut-M armours. They are very survivable, when you don't get headshot. I just buy them from Ragman with all the plates in them and the weight is worth the solid protection they offer. I run a meldonin and have basically max strength also, so the weight isn't noticeable. Overall I enjoy the Gen 4 Assault the most.
I really like the Gen 4 HMK personally, and I try to replace the plates with lighter weight ones too unless I'm already running a pretty light loadout otherwise. The difference in movement inertia and footstep volume from being over vs. underweight is really noticeable to me.
So I guess the moral of the story is run what we like as long as we have class 4-5 plates with soft armor protection? Anyway thanks for another great info video giga!

Would love to see a video about bullet pen mechanics when passing through multiple hitboxes and maybe multiple armour areas, like arm armour -> arm -> soft chest -> chest (E: just realised this is a bad example with current bug, swap arm for leg!). Couple of times this wipe we've been trying to break down what's happen when shooting people with 338 and seeing weird armour/health amounts on final screen. Stuff like 1 shot, 2 hits, 85 damage, 137(ish) armour damage. Looks like it hit the armour but still also had enough to one shot chest. Would be cool to know how to read this stuff, like is that armour damage just the exit hitting a back plate?
I wish the post raid screen showed up for co-op offline - the fact that it doesn't makes it 10x harder as you have to test it live to see the full breakdown!
Plate Carriers would be good for fast, lightweight armors that don't hamper your movement too much. Personally I'm glad to stop running into slicks and hexgrids being the most common things, and if you REALLY want to protect yourself, you have to be heavier and can't be nearly as maneuverable as you would be with the slick or hexgrid. But I'm also not a movement player so...
great vid, what i was really wondering was how does the baragly work with korund plates, compared to korund plates in the 6b13 (propane barter ceramic one) vs the normal korund it seems like the baragly dosnt have the physical real estate for the groin plate from the korund and the carrier says no groin protection, needs testing i think becasue baragly with korund front plate seems solid on paper
been running the mbss with frontal lvl 4 plates lately, mainly labs and it works wonders. Can get it for like 35k, and I only care about the plate either way cause lvl 2 aramid wont really help me
Since the beginning of this wipe I’ve been thinking, why don’t they add the ability to wear the paca and DDR armours under armoured rigs that don’t have the aramid coverage? Would make a lot of the useless rigs viable again with weight & cost potentially being a balancing factor.
The press armor was insane for a lvl 3 before they added all this plates and stuff . But I haven't played in like 4 wipes so I guess I'm a old tarkov boomer 😅
Sorry if I missed it but has there been testing on comparing lvl 3 soft armor paired with lvl 4 plates (say a defender or redut with monoclete) vs a lvl 2 soft paired with lvl 5 plates (Korund with the korund lvl 5 plates)? Is the korund combo superior because the lvl 5 plate or does the soft armor have a big enough impact to make it even? Dont care about weight

at risk of sounding like an idiot, you should absolutely not take plate weight as your deciding factor, the real reason the Gac and monoclete plates are so good is because they have very low destructibility and repair insanely well, they just so happen to also be the lightest ones.
If there was more of a difference between the practical effectiveness then I would care more. But plates are so rarely zeroed, you have to take an incredible amount of damage - and the likelihood of that is also very low as the target area is not very big. It's nothing like the old system where anywhere on your chest/stomach from any side would hit armor and deal dura damage. On that basis, I would still probably take the lightest plates even if they were nerfed to 50% of the durability that they have now
i swear my armor doesnt even come into play like 80% of my deaths. the number of times ive died to "armpit, right arm, stomach, jaw, eyes, ears" is fucking ridiculous.
Doesn’t effective durability still apply? These plates have different material properties and I’d be surprised if bsg just removed the feature or forgot it with the update.
interesting to not hear the korund armor literally at all. one of the only lvl5 armors you can buy from trader and it wont be sold out. its heavy yes. saved me from m62 a couple times from the same guy in the same raid tho.
3:15 "there doesn't seem to be any difference between plates of the same class" --- wait, is effective durability based on armor type no longer a mechanic?
It is, but UHMWPE has the best effective durability and is the lightest with combined materials being crazy heavy being next best so just stick to the poly plates. For the class 6 plates you are basically stuck with a plate that can only be repaired 1-2 times before it needs to be replaced so until you are a real baller just stick with the infinitely repairable class 5 poly plates and you are good to go.
@@Sightbain. With t4 plates, people should also check that titan one with 55 showed durability. Its effective durability is even higher than that of a monoclete.
Kinda. It doesn't cover all the thorax, but it covers a standardized hitbox, so no matter how does the armor look, "thorax" aramid hitbox will always be the same
It follows the old methodology, except the old thorax is now front/back/l.side/r.side. So "Thorax" now means only the front - yes soft covers all of this if it's listed in the tooltip, but you can never protect "thorax side" for example
The heavy plates and light plates doesnt have any difference besides weight? Ive heard that light plates were not as good as the heavy ones because the light plates lets the caracter receives blunt damage while the heavy plates avoid that. Is it wrong what I heard?
Fence lvl 6 trader also got a workaround. I've bought multiple slicks from him, he sells them for 250- 300k. Buy the slick, take out the plates. Sell slick to ragman (180k). Tadaaa 2 lvl 6 plates for 100-120k
Let's be honest if you make it to ragman 4 and aren't buying com 4 and maxing out your kit, you are doing it just to sit on absurd amounts of cash with bitcoins being worth essentially 4 class 6 plates by your calculations.
surprised not to see the killa armor on here, level 3 soft armor good coverage and can put decent plates in there, feels like its been working well for me
I have a qustion. Maybe someone can explain this to me or gigabeef itself. I have really do not exatcly understand the problem with for example MMAC, where under "Armor Areas" there is no "Thorax" and "Stomach" listed. I repeated a few time the moment, where gigabeef is explaining this. MMAC - Do this armor have soft armor behind plates? From what i understand, gigabeef mean that there is just no soft armor protection around Plates like by the FLORA Armor. But it should have soft armor behind plates, yes?
So the MMAC DOES have Class 2 soft armor, but it only protects the plate area exactly. It means you can get buckshotted from the front and still die to chest, which is annoying imo
The super heavy armors need class 4 or even class 5 aramid - else they are just completely worthless. The armor item space has shrunk so massively this wipe it is really sad.
@@GigabeefWhat about Class 5 soft? You'd still have the penalties, but it would require ammo with serious penetration to work through them. Have you also noticed the difference in used ammunition this wipe compared to the previous ones? 856A1 is still the standard for 5.56 this late into the wipe.
Oh yeah 100%. Because there are so many areas that have no/little armor, you can even get away with M855 tbh. 30 pen is totally usable in 0.14@@Der_Thrombozyt
Loads, it's been scaled back a lot. Max strength makes your guns weigh nothing when carried but other than that it doesn't go up anywhere near as much as it used to
I wish they would gamify the plates a little and ignore the east west plate restrictions for the front and back. It's fine how it is, but it would make it a little more convenient.
@gigabeef bro no one is coverying the bugs in armor right now. Airwing covered it over a month ago, but I'm still getting 1 tapped through level 5 armor in 50 percent of my games. I'm getting one tapped by FMJ round SOST rounds M80 Rounds m62 BCP all have one shot me multiple times so many times I've stopped playing this wipe yesterday. Even though I have max traders and 30 mil. I do just fine. I just cant handle getting one shot in thorax through a hexgrid. Please help bring attention to this
I saw fmj from a scav take out half my buddies thorax through a level 5 plate in a korund. I have been killed by m80 and bcp-fmj through a fresh level 5 plate as well. A few armor points will be taken off the plate but I will lose half my thorax health on normal ammos.@@Gigabeef
Tbh no... it never becomes a factor these days. Aramid has insane destructability so it doesn't matter, and for the plates it just doesn't make enough difference between them to worry about - especially with the two good ones being up there as polymer materials (monoclete/GAC)
isn't the ANA M2 coverage worse than the thor due to the physical coverage being less or does it not matter? like the ana has straps that dont cover as much as the thor's shoulders for example.
Visual coverage doesn't matter. Armor covers specific hitboxes, which can be seen at the description. For example, every armor that has "thorax" listed will cover your thorax exactly the same, no matter how does it look visually
The armor system now it’s just bad. Basically better off running nothing as everything just pens the plates or just flesh kills you anyway. Also on arm protection, it’s defo still important iv died more times to arms than head this wipe
What I do is set up a kit labeled "Empty" and put the backpack I use most, rig, meds, food, and then leave the weapon/helm/armor empty so I can pick and choose what I want. This is so useful so I don't have to go into my cases to get what I want out. It takes me such little time and thought to just get ready and go now man, so nice@@anttdogg

I just looked at thor armour on flea and they are 90k-100k now...
Iv just died to scavs going straight threw the front plate with 7.62 ps it’s a hella interesting and inconsistent armor\ plates
It's only Class 2 soft armor so I think there are better options
@@Gigabeef assuming you can get ahold of lvl 5 plates ya sure. i see your point.
@@silver-9692 not the same for me. its blocked 308 rounds pretty consistently for me.
Crazy tedious to have to craft plates for armor
3:15 "there doesn't seem to be any difference between plates of the same class" --- wait, is effective durability based on armor type no longer a mechanic?
I mean, it is - but the difference is basically meaningless given the target area is so much smaller and the plates are relatively similar
It is, but because of how low the destructibility %s are now, it doesn't matter as much as before.
Oh yeah just need level 4 traders....lol
Does soft armor/aramid follow the old armor system? As in does aramid cover all of thorax even where it doesn’t show it?
@@GigabeefThanks for the clarification!
@@ВячеславФролов-д7я Thanks, makes sense!
The heavy plates and light plates doesnt have any difference besides weight? Ive heard that light plates were not as good as the heavy ones because the light plates lets the caracter receives blunt damage while the heavy plates avoid that. Is it wrong what I heard?
Yeah all plates give blunt now
Fence lvl 6 trader also got a workaround. I've bought multiple slicks from him, he sells them for 250- 300k. Buy the slick, take out the plates. Sell slick to ragman (180k). Tadaaa 2 lvl 6 plates for 100-120k
i got three tapped by a piranha round while wearing my Korund armor with lvl 5 plates
armor doesn't work. I font care what anyone says. Scavs taking 2 points off my level 5 plates with fmj but half my thorax health. Makes no sense.
@@mskibo5 Korund has class 2 soft armor, piranha has 24 pen. It will go through unless it hits the actual plate. Same with FMJ.
Let's be honest if you make it to ragman 4 and aren't buying com 4 and maxing out your kit, you are doing it just to sit on absurd amounts of cash with bitcoins being worth essentially 4 class 6 plates by your calculations.
I got killed by ppsh rounds while wearing a korund...never wearing that again
All this shit goes over my head bro. I just run pacas and whatever I get off of pmc’s lol
surprised not to see the killa armor on here, level 3 soft armor good coverage and can put decent plates in there, feels like its been working well for me
I have a qustion.
But it should have soft armor behind plates, yes?
to my understanding mmac doesnt have soft armor, its strictly the plate, and the plate only takes up a portion of the rig.
So the MMAC DOES have Class 2 soft armor, but it only protects the plate area exactly. It means you can get buckshotted from the front and still die to chest, which is annoying imo
@@Gigabeefdoes this apply to all armors where soft armor covers along the plate? And does it really make that much difference?
The super heavy armors need class 4 or even class 5 aramid - else they are just completely worthless. The armor item space has shrunk so massively this wipe it is really sad.
I think so. NFM Thor, Zabralo and Redut T-5 wouldn't be imbalanced with Class 4 soft, given their other penalties
Noooo my monoclete prices
What about korund from prapor
I just wear a PACA and hope for the best.
Soooo what about the korund?
Korund is Class 2 soft, think it's overpriced tbh. Better to use Kirasa with Korund front if you have that unlocked imo
@@Gigabeef I had no idea there was a change, thought it was class 3 soft still
when i go to modding on armour i cannot see any plates. why?
Depends which armor & whether you'd added any or not
What item does he use at the beginning of the video to be able to use 2 sights at the same time???
Mpr 45 canted. You will need to bind the key to switch between them to something useful. I use a mouse button
@@michaele1564 thank you bro
Nooooooooo U killed the flea price for my fav armour 😅
how much str i need to get a big increase on carry weight ?
Loads, it's been scaled back a lot. Max strength makes your guns weigh nothing when carried but other than that it doesn't go up anywhere near as much as it used to
why no redut?
THor COnceal armor, because cheap and level 3 arimid
I wish they would gamify the plates a little and ignore the east west plate restrictions for the front and back. It's fine how it is, but it would make it a little more convenient.
Gigabeef try not to min-max challenge (imposible)
@gigabeef no love for the Uley? lvl 4 full coverage of chest, back, groin, for 60k from trader? All I ve run this wipe and I feel like I know a secret
I talked about the Uley right at the beginning after the DRD as the "run and gun" armor without having to think too hard :)
@@Gigabeef Sorry, I missed the first bit
Let's see how you attack the weight aspect 🤔
@gigabeef bro no one is coverying the bugs in armor right now. Airwing covered it over a month ago, but I'm still getting 1 tapped through level 5 armor in 50 percent of my games. I'm getting one tapped by FMJ round SOST rounds M80 Rounds m62 BCP all have one shot me multiple times so many times I've stopped playing this wipe yesterday. Even though I have max traders and 30 mil. I do just fine. I just cant handle getting one shot in thorax through a hexgrid. Please help bring attention to this
Can you send me some clips/after raid reports to investigate? Would be interested to see some new examples post patch
Give me a week and i'll have it all for you. I dont record so I'll have to start. @@Gigabeef
Not considering destructability at all?
Tbh no... it never becomes a factor these days. Aramid has insane destructability so it doesn't matter, and for the plates it just doesn't make enough difference between them to worry about - especially with the two good ones being up there as polymer materials (monoclete/GAC)
Soft armor level 3 around the neck and other areas isn't worth shit 2 months into wipe. Not worth the weight at all.
lets see
The new armor systen is very annoying scavs just seem to ignore my armor most of the time they always shoot arms and arm pits or high chest area
isn't the ANA M2 coverage worse than the thor due to the physical coverage being less or does it not matter? like the ana has straps that dont cover as much as the thor's shoulders for example.
Nah physical doesnt matter. Soft areas define the armor protection!
Visual coverage doesn't matter. Armor covers specific hitboxes, which can be seen at the description. For example, every armor that has "thorax" listed will cover your thorax exactly the same, no matter how does it look visually
would be nice if you stop giving away all the hidden gems dude. Nice video anyway 😭
The armor system now it’s just bad. Basically better off running nothing as everything just pens the plates or just flesh kills you anyway. Also on arm protection, it’s defo still important iv died more times to arms than head this wipe
Armour not worth wearing anymore?
Hi
OwO
Or, I play three raids with random armor in the time it takes me to build one armor for one raid.
That's a stretch if I've ever seen one
Kit presets are a heavily underutilized part of the game, take me 30 seconds to fully kit up for another raid
@@melvincooly8I love em but haven’t found a good way to set any up since I almost always use a different gun and/or armor
The Uley is this for me in fairness
What I do is set up a kit labeled "Empty" and put the backpack I use most, rig, meds, food, and then leave the weapon/helm/armor empty so I can pick and choose what I want.
This is so useful so I don't have to go into my cases to get what I want out. It takes me such little time and thought to just get ready and go now man, so nice@@anttdogg
Bro. Just a fyi. There is so much unnecessary talking in this. Like get to the point and show the best of the best. Not what doesn't work or why it doesn't work or this option that option. Just say what is what and what is best. It's simple. Just a suggestion. So much bs to hear in between
Me watching this video while having 8 Korunds, 6 Ghzels, 5 Osprey As in mys stash knowing I won’t be able to get rid of them any time soon 🥲
