I've watched this video twice, and will probably watch it several times more. It's an excellent reference guide for us beginners.Recognizing the relationship between different categories on the card is really helpful, and a skill I need to develop. Mah Jong is the most fascinating games I've ever played with endless variation. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning...when will my new card arrive :-)
I did your videos in March 2023 and also mahjong made easy. I picked up the game very easily because I enjoy strategy games. I play at least 3 times a week and have become proficient. I have played in 3 local tournaments recently and in the most recent I had a high round win. I will be in a 3 day tourney in near future. I try to get more men into the game but not any success yet. I do recommend your videos to those I know are proficient in strategy games.

I am interested in Siamese Mahjong. My mom, who is 88, loves games. I am teaching her Mahjong, but it is just us two. I can play with 4 people at my synagogue on Mondays. My mom used to play, but I don't think they were using the American Mahjong League card or rules. I am very patient with her and I think it will be good for her memory.
The Chinese 4-tile melding game is known by many names: Chung Fa Ma Chiang Ma Chong Ma Deuck Ma Que Mah Cheuk Mah Jongg (AMERICAN) Mahjong Pe-Ling Pung Chow Que Ma Que When Joseph Babcock decided to import the game to America, he created "mah jongg" as a marketing strategy which is now called American mah jongg. The name of my first business was Mahjong Central (2017-2022) and I used the name "mahong" because I was doing videos for five versions of the game and only one was American style.
You can start playing as soon as everyone on your group has their new card. If you play online, you can play with the new card by mid-April depending on where you play 🤓
The American mah jongg annual card is standalone so there is no need to buy cards from previous years. Many players like to keep their cards from year to year for posterity. Some players like to collect them for various other reasons. For example, I wanted the 1941 inaugural card, the card the year I was born, and the 1972 card because that is when the rules of the game stabilized. If you decide to buy cards from previous years and play with them, everyone at the table should have the same card. There is a party game where everyone plays with a different card from previous years.

@@MAHJLIFE Why does it take 4 months to send out the new card? Every year, the same thing. Why not allow us to send away in October and mail the card out January 1st? I don't understand the need to wait until April…
@@LadyK_ you are not alone in your sentiments. I have come to the conclusion that the timing is either based on tradition or it's based on their fiscal year.

How do I become a member of National Mahjongg League?
