Buck Rodgers. What an awesome game from my childhood. I remember seeing it in a massive catalog and ordering it and waiting months for it to arrive. My friends and i played this game all the time once we figured out the rules. I cannot think of another game from that era that was so far ahead of itself in scope, design and execution. It still holds up today even with all the great games out there. Oddly enough i use the Factory's from the game as Colonies for Star Trek: Fleet Captains. Thumbs up for bringing this game back to the spotlight.
What a great list, lol. I remember every stinkin' one of these, and their associated adverts, lol. Also, Chris in the black hole at the end was hilarious, LOLOLOLOL.
Awesome video thanks for this! I actually and looking behind me on my game shelf looking at the games I kept from my childhood and 2 of the games in this video are back there Dragon Strike and both the Atmosphere VHS and DVD game. I also still have the VHS for Dragon Strike still in the box. Now the boxes arent in good shape as you know I was a kid when I had them but yes they are amazing games that I need to get back out again soon.
Great List Jamie! Have all of them in my collection. ( yes I'm old. ) Would love to sit down and show you a few of my favorite Vintage games! Also, your gatekeeper dialect had some Adam Sandler in there... Ha!
Awesome Jamie! I had that Dungeons and Dragons one too! I have the 1975 version of "Dungeon" that I re-bought a handful of years ago, which led me to the new Wizards of the coast version, which led me to Forbidden Island, which led me back into board gaming hardcore in 2012! I also have a 1964 version of Acquire! :) Git it at a goodwill for $3 and could sell it for $100, but nope!
Thanks Dan! I never played the original Dungeon myself. Always thought it looked like a fun one to snag to give it a whirl but just hasnt happened yet. one of these days. Also Acquire is a great old game. Some guys at Beer Mongers brought out an old version of it recently.
@@Thesecretcabal The old Dungeon had some rules that I miss in the new one (like being able to steal treasure from other players when they are making a run for it! Plus all the monster use to fit on the board, and in the new one you have to put most of them off to the side.
Dragon strike wasTHE game from my childhood!! I remember knocking on all my friends doors to get this played. Never heard of dragon lance but it sounds cool
It's fun to think back to the days of carrying a game around the neighborhood looking for people to play it with. Times were so different back then, haha
Oh wow, I love Atmosfear! I liked the original Nightmare/Atmosfear series a bit better than Harbingers, even though Harbingers had a bit more game to it. I had bought Nightmare as a teenager and ended up playing it, and the two expansions like crazy with my friends and family. It was goofy as heck, but kept enough of a horror vibe to be suspenseful and sometimes scary. I remember playing Nightmare 3, the Witch was the Host, with my cousin who was around 8. I remember she got ridiculously freaked out by the game that she was actually crying at some point. She was a trooper though and finished the game. She probably had legitimate nightmares from it for a month. Also, a big part of that magic formula of the originals was the actor who played the Gatekeeper. It's impossible for anyone to play those games without everyone imitating the Gatekeeper at some point. I was hoping for so many years for a dvd version of the game that might take off. I ended up buying the DVD version the second it hit the shelves at the local Target. It never really hooked me like the VCR versions, probably because it was a bit more family-friendly. I still have all of the games, but don't ever get to play the VCR ones. But, as always, I still hope someone will reboot the game for another proper run at the series that can rekindle the magic of the originals for me.
Loved Buck Rogers Battle for the 25th Century! I Saw an add for it in a Marvel comic book, bought this in 1988 as soon as it was released and has remained my favorite game of all time. The game is based on a reboot of the Buck Rogers I.P. in 1988 which included about 9 novels, a handful of comic books, and a role-playing game developed by TSR. I read about 6 of the novels, pretty cool reads with a interesting new take on the Buck Rogers property. Check out Battle Fleet Mars, it features a similar Solar system display which was incorporated to the Buck Rogers game. It's cool to see how much love this game is getting. Sad to say I never met anyone else who owned or even heard of this gem. #BuckRogersBattleforthe25thCentury
Regarding Buck Rogers, yes there were games that had multiple ways to win (especially the classic game Illuminati, which came out a year prior, and was recently republished)
The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast well I did hear a rumor that Restoration Games is gonna remake it- update it!! Heard that a month after I picked up the original 🤦🏼♂️😂
Dragonlance was my most favorite IP within the TSR era of Dungeons & Dragons. I still have all the 2nd Ed. D&D games and books for Dragonlance. Tried going back to read the books a couple years ago and MAAAAAN are they badly written! Haha! Still love the world and the characters and would love to get those games to the table. Not sure if I would like this game though, because it does look really dated. Maybe if it were revamped and given an updated look.
Oh man Jason, I totally agree! The Chronicles aren't nearly as good as they were when we read them as kids. The story is awesome, but they were really green at writing back then. I do still have my 2nd edition campaign guide and we use it whenever we play DL today with 5e.
The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast - awesome. I really want to run a game with my Tales of the Lance boxed set and War of the Lance supplementals in 5e. Krynn was my go-to fantasy world in the 90s and it would be a lot of fun to visit again with my group, but I’m the only one who’s old enough to have been interested in Weiss/Hickman’s world in its heyday. Maybe I’ll be able to pull it off with my family...someday....someday.
We did shoot another one a couple months ago but it went horribly wrong! I know that sometimes some times are so bad they're good, but this wasnt one of them. Writing comedy isnt as easy as it may seem. Steve and Friends will return, I promise, we just wanna make sure it's good when it does.
You forgot the best part about dragonstrike. Toss the miserable game and use the miniatures in Heroquest, the true king of childhood games.
Your passion is more valuable than all these games combined. This is the first video I've watched from you - 16 minutes and 20 seconds well spent.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the comment! Made my day :)
Electronic D&D was also my jam, I got that Christmas 1982. Great solo game. Beware the Dragon!
Dragonlance ruled my world. I had no idea there was a boardgame!
Dude, I knew you were going to say Chris. I laughed so hard! Great video, Jamie!
Haha, Thanks! Sometimes the best punchline is the most predictable punchline :)

Buck Rogers yeah! I bought a bunch a little spaceships on eBay and these are the ships. Cool nostalgia
Number 4 is my top pick for Restoration games to restore. That looks so cool!!!!
My friend had the Electronic D&D and I borrowed it so much, it was almost my game. Great list.
What a great list, lol. I remember every stinkin' one of these, and their associated adverts, lol. Also, Chris in the black hole at the end was hilarious, LOLOLOLOL.

The original Dark Tower has to be on my list.
Tim Teigen I would LOVE to have the original Dark Tower, but sadly it ain’t in my collection so it didn’t make the video.
Has to be interesting someway? Has it any relationship with the dark tower King's books... may be in inspiring it too
Dark Tower is one of my all-time favorites
Never heard of any of these. Avalon Hill's Wizard Quest was my go to game.
Wizard's Quest - so goo! ahead of its time!
Great List Jamie! Have all of them in my collection. ( yes I'm old. ) Would love to sit down and show you a few of my favorite Vintage games! Also, your gatekeeper dialect had some Adam Sandler in there... Ha!
Name some please.
I love vintage board games.

Good list, cute ending.
Nice wish list for Restoration Games, I mean, Nice You Tube video...
Damn right it is! Would love to see all of these remade by Restoration.

The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast I can do it now but then I’d end up on a watch list

Dragonstrike over Hero Quest?! Or even Dark World!?
No Jamie. No.
Awesome video! I've gotta track down a copy of Buck Rogers.
I was lucky enought to get copies of Dragon Strike and Atmosphere. You should all check out Key to the Kingdon and Tower of the Wizard King
I remember playing hero quest with my cousin
This list needs more 1980's Erin Gray!
This is a true statement.
Funny story. I met someone who is working on the new version of Atmosphere. I’m hoping to get involved in the play testing !
2 kaiju and a Kermit...awesome

Oh no! Chris is in the black hole? Say it isn't so, Jamie!
It is so. I haven't seen him for days!
Regarding Buck Rogers, yes there were games that had multiple ways to win (especially the classic game Illuminati, which came out a year prior, and was recently republished)
We used to play Steve Jackson's Illuminati but years later... like in the late 90s. It was a really great game. Never played the original though.
I would have to nominate Shogun (aka Samurai Swords, aka Ikusa) and Lee Vs. Grant as some top vintage classics from my own past.
Never played those! Heard of Shogun man times but never havent looked at Lee vs Grant. I'll have to looking into them!
The mage knows both He and the dragon are 1 on initiative .... second edition rule's reference may be
Yeeees!! I have Key to the Kingdom- but dragonlance looks AWESOME
Oooooooo! Key to the Kingdom? I never heard of that one. Just looked it up on BGG and I kinda wanna find a copy of that now. Ebay here I come :)
The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast well I did hear a rumor that Restoration Games is gonna remake it- update it!! Heard that a month after I picked up the original 🤦🏼♂️😂
Buck Rogers ... I did know there was a board game about... somewhere in the universe.. may be I saw a game for sega genesis?
Yep, there was Buck Rogers, Countdown to Doomsday, a RPG for the Genesis or P.C.
do I get points for noticing that you magically turn into Chris for the blurry title gfx? 😁
Buck Rogers is epic

As Chris has vanished in the black hole- may be it is time for another Steve & Friends Show...?

The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast appreciated Jamie. Keep up your own standards. Keep up your good work and have fun.
Did you play the old buccaneer?
ok wick
Man no hero Quest?
yeah, unfortunately it's one that I dont have in my collection and never played when we were young so it didnt make it.
Dragonstrike is bad acted but D&D movies are worse
I cannot in any way argue with this. The D&D movies are as bad as they come.
