Always love to see odd time signatures used, I've tried to make songs in them and it's so hard to not make it feel forced, so I'm always impressed when songs like this manage to make it sound so natural!
@Kisher02 I like to think of them as "consistent mixed meter" (in this case 7/8=2+2+3) where the time signature is in 'lowest terms'. Instead of making a piece where every fourth bar is one beat longer, you could instead call it 13/8 (3+3+3+4) to minimize the amount of time signature changes. It's how I made my outro song, actually. The part I used was in 12/8, but it was counted 2+2+3+2+3, rather than standard compound quadruple time. I've also made songs in 23 and in 25, but those are a different story. If you're interested though, they're counted (3+3+4+3+3+3+4) and (3+3+3+4+3+3+3+3) respectively. Very consistent bars, with an extra beat added occasionally, basically. TL;DR, odd time signatures are just consistent mixed meter.
From what I can tell ZUN never studied music, just kinda made what felt right. The result is a lot of tracks that defy convention but somehow still work due to what I have to assume is just an innate knack for music.
@@baconlettucepotato69 Yeah that makes sense, I've recently been obsessed with songs that use time signatures like this, it can be very satisfying to get that "aha" moment in how you count it, and depending on the song it can also just come super naturally that you don't even notice it's in a weird rhythm. Upon watching this, I feel like I’ve regained the spark I lost back then. The creative spark that clouded my mind and gave me happiness in myself. You inspired me so much over the years and you finally helped me overcome my motivation problems. This was a beautiful animation Pear, thank you for saving my life here.
2:12 If I had a nickel every time a psychological story turned into a musical bit made "fear" and "mirror" rhyme, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, it's just weird it happened twice. (fishmen reference?)
It's here....After years, I can finally rest in peace Thank you Pear for this amazing animation.....Truly And I love the implication Sanae had Koishi as an imaginary friend. This is my headcanon now
For those who don’t understand the lore: She is a Satori Youkai that specializes in the mind arts(reading and speaking through mind) but Koishi is kinda born overpowered she unconsciously manipulate the unconscious mind making others forget about her… Fans just applied the psychological horror of going insane because she can’t make permanent bond with anyone.
I mean, you're close, but for additionally important context: Satori youkai, because of their extremely invasive powers (driven by that floating third eye that's attached to them), are hated by basically everyone. Koishi, unable to bear this, forcibly closed her third eye to get rid of her powers - this is why she now has power over the unconscious rather than conscious mind, but it also means that she's now entirely a being of unconscious - "no thoughts, head empty" in the most played-for-serious way.
Basically, in closing her third eye, Koishi is now unable to look into minds. Including her own. She's basically just vibing 24/7, and actually pretty happy like that. Byakuren, the Buddhist monk, is _extremely_ interested in her, since Koishi basically achieved "Emptiness" by herself. I really don't get all the headcanon grimdark stuff about her. I think it's just one fanfic that got extremely popular, there's really no support for it in the canon.
@@drpibisback7680 I don’t think forgetting the entire “closed her third eye” thing even qualifies as close to explaining Koishi, it’s pretty much what defines her whole character. Sounds like OP got their touhou lore off powerscaling lol
This is wrong She was a satori that could read minds, yes. But she sealed her third eye because she couldn't take it anymore. Being able to read minds is just too horrible and makes her hated. But by sealing her third eye, she essentially sealed her consciousness too; so she acts purely subconsciously. (So she can sometimes, but not always, have murderous tendencies because there's no consciousness to hold back any murderous or bad thoughts she subconsciously gets) This also meant that people will always subconsciously ignore her, even when she's clearly visible; effectively granting invisibility. Basically, before sealing her third eye, she could "see" everyone's mind. Now, she can't be "seen" by anyone's minds. Edit: what I meant by "murderous tendencies" is NOT that she literally likes murdering all the time. What I meant by that is, like everyone in the world, she sometimes gets these dark thoughts. Normally, that would be filtered by your consciousness saying "that's silly" or "that's bad" or "don't do that", but Koishi doesn't have that filter. So she has "murderous tendencies" because if she gets the idea "I feel like killing this guy" there's nothing in her brain that could stop her from doing that. That's not to say that she always kills people, as depicted in fanon. It's just very possible that she would kill people randomly, and fanon has taken that to an extreme level. Koishi is not a crazy mass murderer, she's essentially "no thoughts, head empty", and that can sometimes lead to her just killing whoever she feels like killing.
It's a damn masterpiece, Pear! The impressions are simply indescribable. Special thanks for the "Last Remote" in the credits and for the post-credits scene with Satori and Koishi. As a koishi fan, I'm thrilled! Your work was worth every second of your time)
MASTERPIECE, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND TRAGIC, legit one of my favorite animations not only from Touhou but in general. It perfectly shows Koishi's character amd her inner conflict and i love how you used Sanae as her child friend, it's an unique take and makes for an even darker/depressing ending. The actress also did a fantastic job not only with the song (which is a certified banger and catchy as hell) but in capturing Koishi's innocence and insanity. Finally the animation GOOD GOD THE ANIMATION IS SO GODLY!!!!! I can see why it took so long it's so clean, fluid and well PERFECT, you can feel all the passion that went into this project and i'm really happy that you managed to finish it and again with outstandingly beautiful results. Once again GREAT JOB AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING IS A BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION!!!! 🤩🤩🤩👏👏👏
Congratulation. The musical animation is excellent with huge passion amnd rewards. I barely know about Touhou Project, but this video is brillant of telling stories with zero dialogue. The music was giving huge impact that totally energetic and dark twist. Each scenes and shots were crafted beautiful in every details and presenting emtional stories so deep I can understand in big pictures since the beginning to the conclude.

Also on a side note, I don't know why, but I really enjoy the detail of Koishi's sleeves dipping up and down depending on her movements. Most others wouldn't really consider that I guess?
Having grown into Touhou in good part thanks to Lyrica's songs, this video feels like a real gift. Your animation captures so much of Koishi, and I'm struck by how scary you make her inner world. The final scene with her closing her eye in the most terrifying way sent chills down my spine, along with the ending cut with the dilapidated bus stop. Owh. Wow. Thank you.

After all the times I've watched the original storyboard draft from six years ago it was honestly wild when the trailer for this dropped. And now that the wait is finally over, I can confidently say that it was more than worth the wait since this was such an incredible animation from start to finish. Can't wait to watch this just as many times as I watched the original storyboard.

Beautiful, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Your original video is what got me into Touhou and Koishi is my favorite character. I’m so happy to see this video completed all these years later.
I dont really have any idea whats happening here context wise, but I think it's hella neat! especially in your artsyle Congrats on finishing it! haven't been around for the whole journey but the wait was worth it.
Koishi is a speceis of youkai in Touhou that has the ability to read minds using their third eye, but because of that, they're hated by both humans and youkai even though they can't turn their ability off. She has a sister named Satori, and both Satori and Koishi live in an abandoned palace in former hell (hell was relocated in the Touhou universe) isolated from pretty much everyone save a few of satori's pets. Her sister, Satori, can cope with the hatred and loneliness just fine, but Koishi can't; constantly being able to read people's minds and how they always seem to have nothing but hatred for her due to being able to read minds, she decides to shut her third eye. This has a side effect though; shutting her third eye pretty much erased her conscious mind, and on top of that Koishi can no longer be perceived consciously anymore making her invisible to most people unless you're unconscious. She has the ability to manipulate the subconscious, but since Koishi herself is now just a husk who lives off of subconscious instincts she doesn't have much control over the power. You also forget about her existence even if she uses her ability to make you perceive her the moment you look away too. She's creepy, but harmless canonically, and despite her fate sounding terrible, she doesn't have the emotions, nor a conscious mind to care anymore. As for her sister, she sorta just does her best to take care of Koishi and her pets in the palace alone. She's in the ending of this video hugging Koishi.

Good luck on your test? Lol

this might be the most unhinged yt comment i've seen in my life.

@@cheesecake1255 hi Don(?Sancho?)
I honestly have nothing to say here. I believe you will be successful with animation. This is just a milestone of your progress. And you should be happy with what you have created. Never stop making stuff dude.
You finally did it, its great
This and the final Tf2 comic coming out truly was a Christmas miracle, we've been blessed this year.
Congratulations on releasing this! It looks awesome, well worth the wait
Great job PEAR!
and thank you for using my piano arrangement in this time👍
Thank you for allowing me to use your music!
my pleasure☺️
Upon watching this, I feel like I’ve regained the spark I lost back then. The creative spark that clouded my mind and gave me happiness in myself. You inspired me so much over the years and you finally helped me overcome my motivation problems. This was a beautiful animation Pear, thank you for saving my life here.
2:12 If I had a nickel every time a psychological story turned into a musical bit made "fear" and "mirror" rhyme, I would have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, it's just weird it happened twice. (fishmen reference?)
it's beginning to look alot like fishmen
eeeverywheere i gooo
That ending animatic healed my heart. I'm so glad you put it in (^_^)
Oh my goodness that was so beautiful! I love the little animation of koishi hugging satori at the end..!
It's here....After years, I can finally rest in peace
Thank you Pear for this amazing animation.....Truly
And I love the implication Sanae had Koishi as an imaginary friend. This is my headcanon now
Mad props for brute forcing your way into this project!
This, 'Touhou Project' YO HOHOHOHOHO
Oh my god, LyricaLive musics are masterpieces. So someone doing ANIMATIONS of them is just THE BEST THING EVER!
1:51 might be my favorite moment, with koishi saying "you see me" to the kids being synced with her singing those words in the song
For those who don’t understand the lore:
She is a Satori Youkai that specializes in the mind arts(reading and speaking through mind) but Koishi is kinda born overpowered she unconsciously manipulate the unconscious mind making others forget about her…
Fans just applied the psychological horror of going insane because she can’t make permanent bond with anyone.
I mean, you're close, but for additionally important context:
Satori youkai, because of their extremely invasive powers (driven by that floating third eye that's attached to them), are hated by basically everyone. Koishi, unable to bear this, forcibly closed her third eye to get rid of her powers - this is why she now has power over the unconscious rather than conscious mind, but it also means that she's now entirely a being of unconscious - "no thoughts, head empty" in the most played-for-serious way.
KKHTA
This is wrong
She was a satori that could read minds, yes. But she sealed her third eye because she couldn't take it anymore. Being able to read minds is just too horrible and makes her hated.
But by sealing her third eye, she essentially sealed her consciousness too; so she acts purely subconsciously. (So she can sometimes, but not always, have murderous tendencies because there's no consciousness to hold back any murderous or bad thoughts she subconsciously gets)
This also meant that people will always subconsciously ignore her, even when she's clearly visible; effectively granting invisibility.
Your work was worth every second of your time)
Hate to be that person, but the stage theme is called Last Remote...
@@PhantomGato-v- Yeah, my mistake. I have already corrected it. Thanks!
Good to see that project done so! Bravo PEAR
This is so good!
I had tears in my eyes at her "You see me!" and her sheer happiness at it
MASTERPIECE, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!!
He sees the vision…
the fact that this is finally here is so surreal. Seeing the finished project is just as unsettling as I was hoping it would be. Wonderful work, and it was well worth the wait!
The storyboard video was how I found your amazing art in the first place, glad to see it all done in all it's glory.
1:37 holy cow the eyes in the back closing?? Talk about foreshadowing
this is stellar - only know vaguely about touhou, but this is convincing me to learn some stuff about it, this is dead sick. love it.
My touhou-addicted friend and I were anticipating this. Thank you.
I Simultaneously have no idea whats going on but cant look away from the stunning animation and strangely addictive tone of the song and voice acting, You truly outdid yourself this time PEAR, We all look forward to to whatever your future endeavors may hold!
Great job!
Imma be honest, I know next to nothing about Touhou lore but this animation might just be the thing to make me look it up
Half-way into finishing kkhta so I say this thanks to the algo. Beautiful work 💚
It's been just enough time between the story boards and now to have us all grow up and have the new start
This is beautifully executed. This is pretty and painful in all the right ways.
Bravo, PEAR.
Absolutely amazing, worth the wait 100% take a much deserved break or get yourself a treat!
Oh my god... I literally found your channel through your storyboard version of this song. I expected you to go back and finish this!
This is an absolutely incredible animation, and I seriously feel so moved looking at this completed version! Fantastic job with this!
Wow. This project looks nice! Congrats on your graduation last year.
I do like your artstyle! Keep it up! I am still new to the touhou community and the games tho'
But still, I like to find more about it!
Hope you can keep it up for future projects!!
After like 7000 page of teasing this is epic, no words can describe how awesome this is, great achievement and your core memory ❤🎉
I think it is 100/100
(Ahahah of course no art should be judge by value, this is priceless) gg
7 years was in fact, worth the wait.
SUCH A GOOD ANIMATION
worth the wait! I'm so glad its out now!
loved the animatic and have been so excited when you announced you were working on a full animation of this
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE KOISHI AND SATORI AT THE END OH MY GODDDD ᗒ^ᗕ
the only other person who'll never forget her 😢
Great work, you obviously had a lot of passion for this project.
Thank you for making it
1:38 From here on everything was a surprise ^
This was 100% worth the wait from the storyboard all those years ago!
All those added details, the coloring, it looks amazing.
Also on a side note, I don't know why, but I really enjoy the detail of Koishi's sleeves dipping up and down depending on her movements. Most others wouldn't really consider that I guess?
HOLY 𝓪𝓾𝓭𝓲𝓸 𝓳𝓾𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓮 THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED!!!!!!!
Owh. Wow.
Thank you.
Its been seven years!? Fells a bit like last week in a way when I first came across the original story board.
Excellent work here! Very much appreciate the use of frame by frame, and the water coloresque backgrounds blend very well with the heavy line work of your characters.
The use of colors and lighting make every scene impactful and there are so many small details that are being worked in too.
I hope that you are as satisfied with your work as I am because you did an exquisite job!
Thank you for making and finishing this!
(=◠ω◠=)👌
It's truly amazing.
As a Touhou fan, I am really happy how this turned out. I love that many years passed, and now it's finally here to make history, and it's even better knowing that it can be something PEAR can remember of as something special.
Also, congrats on finishing university! Hopefully you can fly very high!
We are here excited for what's coming next on your journey!
3:41 - Also, very adorable
Thank you so much for finishing this! I can’t imagine how much time this must’ve taken.
But I love it. The facial expressions, the characters’ movement, the whole vibe of the video. It is wonderful work!
I'm so happy to see the full animation finally get released. Incredible job and thank you for it ❤🎉
This is really awesome
Congrats on completing this video
Congrats on finishing it!
YOU DID IT, YOU FINALLY DID IT!!! , I was so sad that you never finished this animnation before, And now here we are.
あなたの作品を楽しみに待ってた!!
Holy shit its here, and its fantastic. Its flowy, expressive, colourful, detailed, and just generally fricking magnificent. Absolutely peak animation Pear
This is so impressively faithful to the lyrics and themes of the characters.
I think this is one of my favorite animations on youtube now.
Beautiful, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Your original video is what got me into Touhou and Koishi is my favorite character. I’m so happy to see this video completed all these years later.
I've never seen Touhou but I know how hard you worked on this. You did a great job, and you have my support 🤘
The storyboard to this is what introduced me to touhou
I dont really have any idea whats happening here context wise, but I think it's hella neat! especially in your artsyle
Congrats on finishing it! haven't been around for the whole journey but the wait was worth it.
A long journey that has finally come to an end. It is beautiful. Congratulations dude, the amount of work must've been insane.
God, after all these years, it was worth it. It's a very unusual feeling to remember how much has happened in these 7 years )
Lyrica Live must be jumping in Emotion seeing this finally being finished.
This was so beautiful, catchy and tragic, easily the best Koishi animation and one of tbe best animations i've seen in general.
Man, these last few days sure have been eventful in terms of content creation... First this, then TF2's 7th comic comes out, a couple other Christmas miracles happen... Really interesting to me.
PEAR MIGHT be a fan of koishi komeji from the touhou project.
From the bottom of my heart, this is absolutely astounding work and you should be incredibly proud of bringing it to fruition! I had no clue this project was in the works but I've been familiar with the song for years and you could not have captured the essence of it better than you did with this. Incredible work again!
the wait was worth it.
Thank you pear ❤️
The fact that this was in development for half of my entire lifetime is crazy to me. Good job being dedicated to what you enjoy
An irreplaceable masterpiece of art. Is how I described the storyboard. This just leaves me speechless. I never would have figured that it would be completed, nor that it would be this amazing. I seriously don't have words for how amazing this is. Thank you
AMAZING! YOU COOKED BROTHER!
It's so amazing to finally see your project be finished (and the rest of the song animated too!) Bitter-sweet in way. I remember watching the story board! I saved it to my playlist and I will this too!
Keep up the good work! You are an I spiraling and I love your art style!!
Absolute cinema animation! You did splendid job, I loved 1:38 part SO, MUCH!
Someone should hire this animator fr...
