What many people aren't taking into consideration is that he has the gall to charge fine dining prices for mediocre food. Something is amiss here. He did say that he trained the kitchen. If the kitchen doesn't have the experience to produce food that's commensurate to the prices you are charging, you didn't train them correctly or the recipes suck. Using a kitchen's inexperience as an excuse for mediocre food at premium prices is a bit of a cop out.
+Will Conway Jr right? He was blaming the whole "its our first two months" excuse. If you're a celebrity chef, opening a restaurant in Times Square you better be doing 150% on everything from the minute you open. He contradicts himself when he said he brought in his culinary team, but before that it was employees coming and going.
am i the only one who thinks guy fieri seems like a nice dude, even if his style is super oldschool, he seems pretty geniune and he isnt hurting anyone, seems like a cool person to me
I agree, but you're when you're spending 15$ on an appetizer, 9$ for a plate of fries, and 20$ for a hamburger, your expectations are inflated, and you tend be be disappointed and grumpy if everything's not perfect. At least that's how it is for me. The restaurant business is a tough gig, and I'm impressed by Guy's coolness in this interview.
he's an easy target because some of his mannerisms and styles are attributed to douches....he seems like a nice guy and Andrew Zimmern likes him which says more to me than anything else. i like his bottled BBQ sauce.
There's a pretty easy experiment you can do at home to figure out how bad Fieri's stuff tends to be: Make a few of his recipes. And then, as you're eating it, stop and think to yourself "Would I pay 40 bucks for this at a restaurant?"
I ate at his restaurant in Vegas and it SUCKED!! There was 4 of us, very hungry and all 4 were truly disappointed to say the least in our meals. He's a joke, a face, a name sake they made on national tv so they can continue the influx of cash from viewers.
So.... 4 years later and his rating has only jumped to a 3 on yelp and 3.1 on google. I'm sure the critic was out for blood, but maybe he wasn't so wrong with the food?
This critic wasn't out for blood. Guy opened a 50709 seat restaurant, in Times Square, in the food capital of the nation. He was doing everyone a service.
Idk, I think the restaurant was probably pretty damn bad but at the same time. This is a critic who will give terrible reviews to some of the best restaurants on the planet in hopes of getting attention. The fact that he even bothered with this restaurant while pretty much everything on Times Square is themed, revolves around tourists, and is generally terrible I think proves that he was out for blood, trying to make an article that gets a lot of attention. Any critic worth listening to would’ve known to ignore the place altogether
Truly, at the end of the day, he's only looking at the $$ that comes in from each restaurant. If he hears one or more of his restaurants are suffering, he doesn't go in himself to make it better - he appoints someone else to handle it. It's all about the MONEY. And that really sucks.
SOOO SAAAD!!! He KEPT READING the QUESTIONS OFF HIS CHEAT SHEET CARD under his LEFT HAND!!! I'M DONE with "TRIPLE D" AAAND "TRIPLE G"!!!!! GAY FIERI: YOU SUCK!!!!!!!
Or… the other option is that ‘human can of Bud Light Lime’ Guy Fieri’s food is actually disgusting and his menu is a horrible mess; and the review is justified, possibly the only accurate story published by NYT for years.
haters gonna hate! a man on a mission to hurt a business. i love guy fieri as a person, husband and father and i dont even know him. i hope after all this time he has been able to supercede and abound greatly in his business endeavors.
amazing Gordon Ramsay doesn't get any reviews like that he gets good reviews because he only serves quality food. mr. guy fietti maybe you should learn something from him
Bullshit mate he's had few bad reviews. Most recently the fat cow restaurant was shredded and the Connaught had a few shit reviews back when it opened. Just critics who can't cook being harsh arseholes.
Ive been to his restaurant in Las Vegas. I left a worst review the this 3 years ago. Stale bread, cold and SLOPPY fish tacos. Weak cocktails. So bad! Nothing's changed!
One has to remember, these "Big Name" restaurants all have one thing in common. THE OWNER DOESN'T COOK THE FOOD!! They probably aren't in the same State! If the food sucks then the Chefs he (or she) hired are the ones screwing it up not the Big Name owner.
He's Over Hyped....Out of Business ( Nuff Said)....What I'm still trying to figure out is Why Food Network Loves This Guy So Much?....Does he Have Some Dirt on Execs There?? 🤔
I'm a Plumber .What could I possibly tell my customer ,the backup isn't going down because it needs 2 months to readjust to flow properly. Fuck you pay me or give me my money back !
When the "critic" suggested that one of the drinks tasted like radiator fluid and formaldehyde I knew he was just being a pompous jerk. He might not have liked it, but I seriously doubt it tasted like radiator fluid and formaldehyde...if he or anyone else knows (and has lived to say) what radiator fluid and formaldehyde tastes like.
Simon Says The reason why his review was so big, is because he's a writer for the N.Y. Times. If he was just a nobody, the news wouldn't even be talking about it. At that time there was 56 reviews on Yelp. lol.
I guess if your reputation is built on critique of Dinners and Dives this is a huge undertaking with a 500 seat restaurant. Besides NYers have a lot to choose from....this is not California where I had food from NY sent to me when I lived there. California food is really weird like the people. I left after 3 years in one day I just left Southern California. This guy is destined to fold anyway, so many do in Times Square...sooooo many. New York is very hard to survive as Jordan's joint found out. If your not there shaking hands, the food won't carry the place, just my experience being a New Yorker.
you're a moron...southern California , specifically the L.A area is a food mecca..there's more than enough food to choose from, contrary to your claims..the L.A food scene reflects the diversity in the local population..to claim otherwise is indicative of a pompous, delusional, nostalgic New Yorker..
If I know Guy, he knows what works, so for whatever reason, these critics went after him. But look at his attitude, Guy is a good guy, and he is honest and fun, and I have watched him on The 3 D's. People really like him! I like him!
I like Guy as a TV personality but the food at his restaurant was horrible. One of his chains in San Jose CA closed down within a year due to lack of business.
He should of done a video showing what goes into these meals that he said tasted like fish or toxic waste. Does the guy reviewing not like tequila maybe? I'll admit when you get a watermelon margarita you expect it to be red, not blue! I never tried his restaurant but I would of loved to have tried it. Although when your in NYC there are SO many good restaurants why the hell would you go there?
This guy resto is one of the most gross and worst service i have ever been ..i went to thw one in livermore ca, the salmon was almost rotten, theres no one served u and the way they cook their food was a joke i love cooking and believe me this place is a big LOL
Dont mess with guy!!!!!...he's accomplished alot in his time..why do people feel the need to drag the nxt person down???...go and get yourself a restaurant and write your own review!!! If its that important!!! TRIPLE D 4LIFE✌✌GOD BLESS!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁
Check the reviews for his restaurants in Los Angeles. They are all low and complain about the quality of the food. I wonder what guy has to say to that. There is no one with an agenda, leaving the reviews. They are just people.
i agree with the critic...i recently tried Burro Borracho in Las Vegas and It was horrible. it almost seems like a knock off of Mexican food. I don't see how people can like this when the flavor is not their.
Chefs in America are like musicians, they may SUCK at cooking but are heavily marketed and endorsed based on their Personas!!! Hollywood has taken over again!! Sad really, I don't think guy can cook period, but his image overcomes his food!
Obviously the cooks suks. He brings in genuine menus, its how the staff operates and how the food is facilitated. Like many restaurants in ny, the service is not regulated to utmost. Short-cuts, hygience, and discipline are not exercised.
Guy is to The Food Network, what Oprah was to CBS...Triple D is my favourite Food Network show...That food reviewer, clearly, doesn't like Guy Fieri, even if the food isn't up to the reviewer's standard...The review seemed mean-spirited, snarky and sarcastic...Ironically, that NYT food reviewer is, now, being reviewed.
I've been in Restaurants for decades and I've learned that people eat for status. I've been to high end places and most of them taste like everywhere else, one really sucked ass. I've been to one that the whole meal was 7.00 and some change, I remember that most. Stop celebrating these paper(chefs) most of them suck.
Could it be that hipsters of NY City are out to protest greasy food since all they know are vegans who detest anyone who loves greasy? Guy should look into serving NY City food critics carrot on a stick!!!!
I've seen a ton of Diners Drive inns and Dives episodes and guy never bashed anyone...always praised them and I'm guessing to help them mom and pop places get more customers. For the NY Times to come in to bash one of his restaurants is just plain wrong. Yes Guy is a face and comes off as flashy to promote his stuff and honestly, watching him cook makes me cringe because he doesn't stick with simplicity to let the food itself shine but yet adds everything in the pantry and icebox into a dish including the kitchen sink. But the NY Times should of kept their nose out of it and let the man be to make a few extra bucks on the side with that restaurant and also be able to give more jobs out to people that need and want to work hard for their money.
Other restaurant rivals hire food critics to say a bunch of lies about guy restaurant. There's no way he would disappoint his customers. Leave guy alone and stop making up lies.
What an absurd claim! Most restaurants have a 2-7% profit margin. Do you really think they're wasting any of that revenue source on 'hiring critics to bring down guy' ? Give your head a shake
Looks like the review was correct. The restaurant is out of business.
Guy Fieri is a walking relic from the early 2000s/late 90s
Ivan Belinsky looks like he is on standby to take over singing for smash mouth.
+Jeremy Cocks he's friends with the lead singer lol
Well he tweet out that he was going to a Nickelback concert lol.
Who are you ?
What many people aren't taking into consideration is that he has the gall to charge fine dining prices for mediocre food. Something is amiss here. He did say that he trained the kitchen. Next week we will review McDonald's on 6th and main.
I had a horrible experience here. Overpriced food and no free refills which is ridiculous.
I bet guy fieri is the only person who still buys bleach kits, they stay in business solely because of him.
am i the only one who thinks guy fieri seems like a nice dude, even if his style is super oldschool, he seems pretty geniune and he isnt hurting anyone, seems like a cool person to me
he really is sweet awesome dude
I agree, but you're when you're spending 15$ on an appetizer, 9$ for a plate of fries, and 20$ for a hamburger, your expectations are inflated, and you tend be be disappointed and grumpy if everything's not perfect. You pay a premium when you have a meme lord cooking for you in flavor town.
David lmaoooo
he's an easy target because some of his mannerisms and styles are attributed to douches....he seems like a nice guy and Andrew Zimmern likes him which says more to me than anything else. i like his bottled BBQ sauce.
Ha ha ha... Guy looks like Colin Farrell after a 3 month pastry bender.
SethHesio I cackled when I read that.
🤣🤣🤣

Pete wells is known for making controversial reviews. Just look at his review of per se
Only tourist eat in Times Square not New Yorkers. It's a tourist trap. No I live in the bay area and we hate his restaurant in Petaluma too.
It's because when he is travelling his employees are slacking off making the food bad but when guy is around it's very good
This critic wasn't out for blood. Guy opened a 50709 seat restaurant, in Times Square, in the food capital of the nation. He was doing everyone a service.

Guy Fieri’s Restaurant Food S U C K!
Guy Fieri is a great show host, but
Guy Fieri’s food and service is TERRIBLE!!
A little note...look up Johnny Garlic. another Guy Fieri venture. It got huge bad reviews also. I don't doubt his restaurant really sucked.
It's and NYC restaurant. He wrote about it on the level of how good NYC food is expected to be, which is fucking good. Still, only saps will go there.
If his restaurants were as good as the food he finds on tv, people would probably feel differently. The review was ridiculous though
SOOO SAAAD!!! He KEPT READING the QUESTIONS OFF HIS CHEAT SHEET CARD under his LEFT HAND!!! I'M DONE with "TRIPLE D" AAAND "TRIPLE G"!!!!! GAY FIERI: YOU SUCK!!!!!!!
Gordon Ramsey should have done a kitchen nightmares episode at this place
The restaurant still has extremely poor reviews. You created it for the money and you hired shit cooks/staff. Shut it down already.
$ 16.00 for a burger .....No fries.....🤑
RIP times square restaurant, Guy.
He's a jerk and the service sucked at that place!
He basically just slapped his name on that place, he has little to do with it.
But he is not even a trained Chef, he was an HRTA major.
He's so fake. He cares about making a great big wad of cash. There's no style to this.
u absolutely right straight garbage getting paid off his name robbing people
Lmao making excuses about having shitty food 2 months in. You should have good food from the beginning
All these green eyed monsters. Stop it already. Guy is great and love his shows.
That review was pretty harsh but his restaurant here in Bakersfield is mediocre at best. Wasn't as bad as that critic made it seem though.
Relying solely on Yelp reviews for an accurate depiction of a restaurant's performance is daft.
I got the lobster here and I'm not gonna lie, it was too expensive but it was absolutely amazing.
amazing Gordon Ramsay doesn't get any reviews like that he gets good reviews because he only serves quality food. mr. guy fietti maybe you should learn something from him
Bullshit mate he's had few bad reviews. Most recently the fat cow restaurant was shredded and the Connaught had a few shit reviews back when it opened. Just critics who can't cook being harsh arseholes.
Mathew Walworth I think he tries to do things a little differently foodwise than Gorden Ramsey. Some of it works, some doesn't.
Nice
He got a bag one with a burnt piece of steak. Someone even tried to bring him a picture of it.. obviously that didn't go well .
Why would you open if things are not yet worked out? Call Gordon Ramsey he can help you get things straightened out.
Would be hilarious to see this place on kitchen nightmares. Just sayen.
Now that is some funny shit. Or is it Donkey sauce.
Ive been to his restaurant in Las Vegas. I left a worst review the this 3 years ago.
Stale bread, cold and SLOPPY fish tacos. Weak cocktails.
So bad! Nothing's changed!
BUT this guy has the ability to go on The Today show and fire shots back.
"Shut the front door", that review was "out of bounds".
One has to remember, these "Big Name" restaurants all have one thing in common. THE OWNER DOESN'T COOK THE FOOD!! They probably aren't in the same State! If the food sucks then the Chefs he (or she) hired are the ones screwing it up not the Big Name owner.

Can we see the bloopers where she spits out the food he made her try at the end😳
She can't even say his name properly.
if he stands by his food and stands by his team why did the restaurant close down ???
When the "critic" suggested that one of the drinks tasted like radiator fluid and formaldehyde I knew he was just being a pompous jerk. He might not have liked it, but I seriously doubt it tasted like radiator fluid and formaldehyde...if he or anyone else knows (and has lived to say) what radiator fluid and formaldehyde tastes like.
Looks like his trip to flavor town is over..
A reviewer from NY? LOL who gives a crap?
Simon Says The reason why his review was so big, is because he's a writer for the N.Y. Times. If he was just a nobody, the news wouldn't even be talking about it. At that time there was 56 reviews on Yelp. lol.
Say what you want, we all love to watch Guy on TV!! -Cheers from SoCal

hardhitter0421 NYC is the best place to live in America. I am always shocked at those that choose to move.

If ISIS targets Guy Fieri as their next opponent, I'll convert to Islam.
Caoimhin Me, too! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Isis would run the other way.
Tourist spot always suck.
stuck in the 90's
Crazy that this was a story back in the day. Fast FWD to 2020.
If I know Guy, he knows what works, so for whatever reason, these critics went after him. But look at his attitude, Guy is a good guy, and he is honest and fun, and I have watched him on The 3 D's. People really like him! I like him!
He's pretty sure she's gonna love the Donkey Sauce.
Maybe the Donkey punch.
I like Guy as a TV personality but the food at his restaurant was horrible. One of his chains in San Jose CA closed down within a year due to lack of business.
based on the community reception though, their opinion is not too far from the negative critic
If Guy ate there it is means the food is terrible. At least that was my experience living in Flagstaff.
"I wonder about him. He’s 52 years old and still rolling around in the flame outfit…What does he do? How does Guy Fieri de-douche?”
Anthony Bourdain
Bourdain can't de-die
That critic was Out of Bounds.

U don't walk into a times square restaurant and write a review like that without having a chip on your shoulder against Guy
It's like an Applebee's that charges 10 extra dollars a plate.
The only person they could interview was some dude that said, "I don't know....i... I don't know...?"
The place and food was Awesome!
the restaurant sucked
it'sa- da family recipe
wisemage0 Frank, what is this?
+Bwansson Your a sick man frank, YOUR SICK IN THE HEAD
The new york times missed the last bus to flavor town
Scathing is putting it lightly

There*
he said it best a "different agenda".
If he's such a perfectionist why does he not know how to run a restaurant .
His name is actually Guy Fairy
No one talks about guy like that now that’s just not flavor town
Chefs in America are like musicians, they may SUCK at cooking but are heavily marketed and endorsed based on their Personas!!! Hollywood has taken over again!! Sad really, I don't think guy can cook period, but his image overcomes his food!
He takes advantage of traveling everywhere and steals great recipes. He’s a fake! You guys are right “tourist trap”
Obviously the cooks suks. He brings in genuine menus, its how the staff operates and how the food is facilitated. Like many restaurants in ny, the service is not regulated to utmost. Short-cuts, hygience, and discipline are not exercised.
Sat next to the dude behind the rope "VIP" at 10 Oak, dude smelled like BBQ sauce and hair gel
His restaurant is really mediocre, that’s the truth . What does it matter how long it’s been open , the food is not good.
The old drummer from Korn is still in the restaurant business?
Guy is to The Food Network, what Oprah was to CBS...Triple D is my favourite Food Network show...That food reviewer, clearly, doesn't like Guy Fieri, even if the food isn't up to the reviewer's standard...The review seemed mean-spirited, snarky and sarcastic...Ironically, that NYT food reviewer is, now, being reviewed.
He had 2 restaurants in Sacramento and they both closed down.
the woman asked the same question in 3 different ways lol
She was vicious with the questions lol. That donkey sauce at the end though.
I've been in Restaurants for decades and I've learned that people eat for status. I've been to high end places and most of them taste like everywhere else, one really sucked ass. Could it be that hipsters of NY City are out to protest greasy food since all they know are vegans who detest anyone who loves greasy?
Guy should look into serving NY City food critics carrot on a stick!!!!
N.Y. Times and Pete Wells doing their best to give the man's restaurant a bad name.
lol at how he said, EAT SOME OF THIS . HAHAHA
BULLSHIT he did most of the training . He turned up a few times .His paid teams did the work .
He answered wrong when asked did you design the menu? He said we and kept saying we... Not once took it on himself.
wut about the part where they said he was fake on tv? anyways love the show tho
There was one of his restaurants in The villages Florida it's closed now it was terrible
I'm reading these comments and they are terrible. I can't believe the name calling and the rude remarks people are making. SMH
luckiest man in the world award goes too...
Ya well, now the place is closed. So, Pete Wells was right!
