You are the kind of person that God would point to and say "Be like her, live like her and you will find happiness". Thank you for being so open about the details of your life. You are truly an inspiration!
Every once in a while, amidst the meritricious dreck of the internet, something comes along that makes the whole thing worthwhile. What a fascinating channel. There's probably a thousand reasons why I couldn't do what you do (chiefly because I'm the type of person who thinks of a thousand reasons why they cannot do something) but it's a rare treat to enjoy vicariously a life lived freely. I'm looking forward to watching all of your videos and learning a little about you and your life at Fy Nyth.
I would but I can't find a pen! No but seriously (I'm here all week, try the veal) for the past couple of years I've been making glacial progress with learning Irish, which has long been an ambition of mine and recently I blew the dust off of my guitar for some tuneless strumming. This has delighted my neighbours, in particular the guy downstairs, who so enjoys my playing he bangs along to it on the ceiling. I must admit some of his song requests are a bit obscure, for instance I've never heard "Shut up you twat" or "I'm going to shove that guitar up your arse" but I'll keep going, just for him. This year I'd really like to travel: I want to go to Madrid and in particular, the Prado, to see Las Meninas by Velázquez and I'm hoping I can coincide my visit with the El Clásico. Ideally I'd like to go by train, travelling from here to London and then from there on the Eurostar to Paris, before taking the overnight train to Barcelona and then across to Madrid. All that might be a long shot for now but before then, in June, I'll be at the Olympic Stadium in London to see Depeche Mode. This might not seem like the type of thing that could be considered an achievement but for the past five years I've had agoraphobia and have barely made it past my front door. I'm determined this year will be different. Maybe one day I'll even make it across to the States. Do you have any teabags?
The care you take in your presentations and especially the clothes you wear is refreshing. It is good to see someone that takes the time care about how they look.
I'm glad you clarified the fire making that crackling noise as I first thought someone was smoking crack. I just thought I'd throw something in beside all the "how wonderful" you are comments.
You are simply amazing to me and such a sweet heart. As a parent of a young adult daughter, I imagine your parents miss you but at same time very proud of you !
Yup. My dad told me as I was going off to college and packing all my worldly possessions to stick to simple classic clothes because they never go out of style and a few quality items go a long way and take up less space.
So glad more people are coming forward with the idea of "what is enough!" Laundry squanders precious resources...sniff test rules! Less money on chemicals, power, and water (if you pay for that). Less wear and tear on clothes. Thanks for being open about it.
Your a well loved soul. You are so blessed! I hope ur winter is done soon so you can eat out of your garden. Living close to the earth is the only way to live.
I wish we were neighbors. I live in upstate NY where we used to have "real" winters. Hopefully I will be able to build a small retirement cabin next year. Have known of your channel for awhile but subscribing has added to the enjoyment. Tx for posting. Rich
Very practical, love it Ariel! I completely agree, there are degrees of dirty. With a looming global water crisis, everyone should be cognizant of this.
I like the sound of your stove, it reminds me of cosy winter days. In London it is 15 Celsius (or 59 F). And yes, having clothes that you are using, to my opinion is minimalism enough :-)
I see you have some Jack Daniels cough mixture on top of the fridge in case you get a cold. Also I worked out a long time ago that if you only buy black socks you have no problem matching them. Good practical advise here. Nice vide.
Excellent! I do most of these things myself, and have found it has served me well for over 50 years. It took me a long time to realize how much damage dryers cause to clothing, even when they come out looking fine. Now, in my THOW, I have a soaking tub, and that's also my wash tub after I've taken a bath. It turns out that soaking clothes in warm water does most of the cleaning, and I spot clean all of my clothes before they go into the tub with biodegradable dish soap (I use Ecover unscented, for my health) and rinse with vinegar, which removes soap and odor. Even though I bought a washer, I haven't used it, because I love throwing my wash into a spin dryer after that washing method, then hanging my clothes over the tub or outside to finish drying. I never realized that the hardest part of hand washing is wringing out the water. Living tiny has shown me that we need so little to survive and even thrive, and that we are out of touch with reality when we rely so much on 'stuff.' Well done, Ariel. It's so fun to watch you on your journey.
I loved the re-wearing "cleanish" clothes. I call them "clirty" :-) I'll hang the up so they air well and as long as it's not dirty or smells I'll wear it again once or twice. Love your videos!!
"Oh yes, it's not Spring where I live yet." You crack me up! I agree most people are so critical of re-wearing things but washing does age your clothes quickly so you should do it as needed. It used to be the going out to dinner meant you had to wash everything because of cigarette smoke but now that most places don't allow smoking you can re-wear unless you spilled. It would be harder to live in a tiny house in a cold climate! Boots, scarves, mittens- and you need multiples because nothing is worse than putting on cold, wet gloves! Wear do you store your snow shovels and salt?
Thanks! I have one snow shovel that lives in my vehicle all winter and one on the porch. I don't use salt, it's usually too cold here for it to do much good. I have a bucket of gravel handy for times I need to add a little traction.
It works for you. There is always the need to think things through when in a tiny space. On the face of it I did not think it needed to be this organized. However your explanations and thought process reveal there is a quite a method to what you accomplish.
I drove through WY for work (truck driver) and thought of you. I hope all is going well for you. You decided to make such a huge change. I'm so glad it's workin for ya. Please keep making vids and posting on fb and on your blog. It's all very inspiring to watch. I love the self sufficient life style and you are rocking that!!
I think your cloths washing ideas are perfect.Your cloths will last longer if you dont over wash them also.I have a cool washing machine ..its a 1936 maytag ringer washer with may i ad its original gasoline engine .And its kick start how cool is that
I don't know if you have under the floor storage like some other folks. But that might be a way to put your shoewear when not needed. As in remodding the home for under floor storage where possible.
I do not have in floor storage. Mostly because in my cold climate, I want the insulation that is filling up the floor space. But in some tiny's, it's a great design!
Fy Nyth, I live in Minnesota. It gets cold here too. In fact due to where we are in North America. The lowest temp recorded in Minnesota sits at -60. And that was twenty-two years ago You will need to insulate the trapdoor(s) with insulation at a higher R-value. If you do end up remodeling to include one or more underfloor storage. As well as the sides and bottom of the storage area(s).
Wowzer video! I like long dresses too. I used to buy clothes to wear in an office at consignment shops & Good Will. I buy my jeans there. I love the stair drawers. I do the "I can wear that again" thing too.
I think you look nice. As a male I'm definitely at the far end of the clothing tastes, comfortable and functional (and clean) are all I really care about. I thought your purple dress with the black 'cinch'(?) was quite fetching.
Hi Ariel, I've been missing your videos so much since all this nonsense with the new coppa stuff is going on. I'm sure you are researching the issue thoroughly and trying to come to a good decision on how to deal with this. I pray you and all other UA-cam creators will be able to continue making your videos with no problems whatsoever. I've been trying to watch any old videos that I somehow missed. Hope to see you soon in a new video. Take care sweet girl and God bless you!
Good video. I would like it if you made a video about the makes of clothes and shoes. Not the dresses and tops. I am more interested in your winter clothes choice how do you keep warm in the dry cold climate of the Wyoming mountains. What jacket you have found to be the best in the winter etc. You spoke about specialist consignment stores i will look out for them. I don't live in the USA I hope to be visiting. You said you had fur boots made. Why? better value for money to have them made. who made them what fur etc. Ski trousers? JAcket. Outdoor pursuits wear ? anyway, keep up the good work I get a lot out of your videos Thanks.
Ahhhh I found the link of your photos , and your loft and bedroom , that's neat i like it except for the stairs going up and down, i could see myself doing a post face plant at the bottom.. As i got older within the last year i don't do stairs so well, thank god for handrails.. You have some wonderful pictures of yourself having fun out in the wilds ... I backpack myself and have done so all my life...
It is so nice to find out that there are people like this in the world! I feel so alone sometimes in the middle of the hubbub. My friends and family are all the 'you must live according to this pattern' types... but I have only one life to live and I wanna live it to the fullest! Having the big house or the brand new thing, as you mentioned, are just not priorities for me. I wish there were more people who were more interested in living simply and doing what they enjoy with their time and resources. My fiance and I are going to build tiny house in a couple years when we're in the financial position to do so, and we are hoping to retire early because of it!
Seems you learned a lot of what works and what will not work for you in cold climate , cold climate one needs proper clothes .. As i live in the Pacific Northwest it's layers for the most part and gore-tex shell over as i do get rain here and quite a bit in the winter months and spring... You do so good with your videos , i really enjoy them...
You could do that. I have a small shed for things like gas and garden tools that I wouldn't want to store in the house. And a pretty nice fire pit area with chairs, bench, and a swing. But if you have a tiny house because you want to move more frequently, then you might not want some of those things to encumber you.
I've bin following your life in your tiny house for a while now Ariel and I have to be honoust.... I like the way you live, the way you're thinking about whats important in life.... I just want you to know you touch me véry deeply. I've bin living my life for 50 years in The Netherlands or Holland as a lot of you know it. I miss mother nature here big time, but most of all the way we tend to live for luxuary and forget about real life, small things and love. Your life touches me in the center of my heart.... Would actually like to visite you in your little paradise in the north of Wisconsin one time. There's someting about you that is not effected by distance or time. Sorry for being so open hearted. That's just me. Arend Terpstra Holland
Hi! Awesome channel! For clothes in drawers, have you tried rolling each of them to burritos and lay them in the drawers? Easy to see ,easy to grab one you want, and it stays neat even after 2 weeks of digging up. I do it for all my shirts, pants, sweaters, inner layers.
Haha! I grew up hating folding those and hating the messy drawers even more. Drawers used to be the most frustrating space of my house untill I discovered rolled clothes. Now every time I open those drawers, I feel the calming effect. Life is...interesting!
hello Ariel .Great video .I was interested in the way you wash your clothes.Didn't find the link for it .Will you make a video of it ? My hope is to collect rain water(otherwise I carry my own water in) when winter is over and to wash by hand .I am exploring a few options and wanted to know your thoughts about it. Thx a lot for sharing your experiences and philosophy.
Thank you! I plan to do a video when I get a chance. In the meantime, my most recent blog post on the subject is here. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/08/laundry-day-in-tiny-house.html. Are you living in a tiny as well?
Thx for the link. It seems to be a good way to do laundry by hand , I will give it a try. I Bought a tiny house on wheel last summer ,lived in it for a few months but house sat for my landlord most of the winter. Now I am back in it and finding winter to be more challenging, especially getting ride of the grey water .I have no plumbing so i need to carry out my grey water and in the winter it is all snow and ice( I live in northern british columbia canada) and no garden to water !! My conditions are similar to yours in some ways, so I am very grateful for your videos . It is always helpful to see how other people are managing their life in a tiny house.
Good stuff! If I lived in a tiny house, I would need to put a shed next to it to house all of my cast iron pots and pans and my pressure canners and all the accessories for it, as well as my sewing machines and all the fabrics and accessories for that. LOL!!!! By the way, I live in a warm climate, so, this question may be dumb to you, but, here it goes: Why do you always have a cast iron pot on top of your wood burning stove??? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I keep the pot there just so I can add water if the air gets too dry. And even when I'm not using it, it stays there because I don't have any other good home for it. :)
Great idea. I grew up with a wood burning stove and we often threw in orange peels, a stick of cinnamon, and/or whole cloves to a simmering pot of water on the stove to make the whole house smell like Christmas all winter long! :) Thanks for your videos!
Hi, Ariel! I can't say I have been wondering, but it was still interesting to see. I do hope that winter doesn't last too much longer for you, I am looking forward to seeing your garden. Will you eventually erect a small green house of some sort?
I am looking forward to seeing my garden again too! ;) I would like a small green house but that probably won't happen as long as I am living on someone else's property.
The more of your house you show the more i like it , i would like to see your bedroom and how it's laid out? ... Oh how far is the gym you go to? Hope it's close by , it' s a plus to use a gym..
Thank you. You can find some photos of the loft bedroom in this post. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/05/updated-interior-shots.html. The guy is about a dozen miles away.
Good thinking on your part on clothes , wear what works for you and you like and most important will last.. I buy clothes that will last, like Patagonia, The North Face, Mtn Hardware , Marmot and Filson.. I have clothes by those companies that are 30 years old not all but some are, in fact a favorite jacket of mine made by Patagonia a neighbor asked me this morning when i had my jack russell out if that was a certain model and i said it was , he said it appears new, i told him it was new 1988 . I like that clothes that hold up to wear and i can use every winter , fall and summer.. You do good you think it through..
Hi....I was wondering where you store your Wonder Wash and Nina soft spin dryer when not in use? I am considering purchasing them soon . Also..I'm assuming the spin dryer uses little electricity....true? I was thinking of using soap nuts too. I enjoy your vids. I don't have a tiny house...but it is a small bungalow. Have a good day😎
They live out in my little tool shed when not in use. The spin dryer does not pull much and only runs for a very short time, so the power use has not been an issue for me. Sounds like you have a nice place!
Bonjour, comment faites-vous pour le lavage/le séchage des vêtements (habits) ??... le lavomatic (laverie automatique) ?... ou tout le matériel est dans la tiny ?...Merci d'avance, A++
I don't have a video done on the topic yet, but see these two posts. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/08/laundry-day-in-tiny-house.html and fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/01/off-grid-laundry-in-tiny-house.html
Thanks! Internet, see this post. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/01/internet-when-you-are-off-grid.html And utilities, no. See this post among many others. fynyth.blogspot.com/2016/12/fy-nyths-solar-electrical-system.html
Have you seen the snow bank shots around my house? At it's deepest the snow was right around the eves. 537 inches in the mountains beside my house now.
How is someone as smart and pretty as you not married? Just been wondering about that whenever I watch your videos. I married a very practical girl 32 years ago...the only way to go!
Good for you i rotate my clothes too, if i wore shit and pants for one day i don't throw it in the wash basket .. Being a woman you kinda have a label that women have clean clothes every day as you can't wear the same outfit twice in a row... I think that's not good planning , how dirty can i possibly get around home in one day.. If and when i use my chainsaw i do not throw my shit and pants in the laundry , i brush off the wood chips and hang them up and i'm good to go... Laundry is what ruins your fine clothes , for the most part the drier is the worst tool for that..
You are the kind of person that God would point to and say "Be like her, live like her and you will find happiness". Thank you for being so open about the details of your life. You are truly an inspiration!
You are welcome! It's always nice to hear if it's helping someone.
Thanks for your very kind and thoughtful comment! Maybe you need to start making a list of a thousand reasons you could do something? ;)
I do the same with my clothing, I enjoy your videos.

I love watching you tell your story's . Maybe this is love ⚓
Your a well loved soul. You are so blessed! I hope ur winter is done soon so you can eat out of your garden. Living close to the earth is the only way to live.

ENJOYED! I still say you are a SWEETHEART!
Very practical, love it Ariel! I completely agree, there are degrees of dirty. With a looming global water crisis, everyone should be cognizant of this.

You make sense and you are well organized. I really like your tiny house. Thank you for showing your lifestyle.

nice job...

What about a tiny utility shed/ sundeck on wheels that plugs into the tiny house for increased storage capacity and a covered area for entertaining.
You could do that. I have a small shed for things like gas and garden tools that I wouldn't want to store in the house. And a pretty nice fire pit area with chairs, bench, and a swing. Jack Daniels!!!! Whiskey it is eh Ariel!?! 🤣😂🤣
I personally prefer 'Gentlemen Jack' for a very
Smooth Taste. Especially on a cold Day! 🥃👍😇
I think I like Pendleton best actually, but Jack is fine too. I very rarely drink, but I do enjoy a good whiskey. :)
still snowing....wow
Sure was! And I'm sure it's not the last we'll have for the winter either.
hello Ariel .Great video .I was interested in the way you wash your clothes.Didn't find the link for it .Will you make a video of it ?
What do you keep in the big pot on the stove? You must be a very neat organized person.
Most of the time, nothing. But I can simmer water in there if I need some more humidity in the air.
A sand point is a shallow well.
Thanks! No I can't do any kind of well since it's not my land I live on.
wow, your honesty is so refreshing. I love your land. Could you put in a sand? It's always nice to take a shower
You're a super smart attractive young woman I hope you have a healthy self-esteem. You're going places!
Bonjour, comment faites-vous pour le lavage/le séchage des vêtements (habits) ??... le lavomatic (laverie automatique) ?... ou tout le matériel est dans la tiny ?...Merci d'avance, A++
I don't have a video done on the topic yet, but see these two posts. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/08/laundry-day-in-tiny-house.html and fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/01/off-grid-laundry-in-tiny-house.html
hey, i enjoy your videos. i just wanted to ask, how do you get internet where you are? do u use public utilities?
Thanks! Internet, see this post. fynyth.blogspot.com/2015/01/internet-when-you-are-off-grid.html
And utilities, no. See this post among many others. fynyth.blogspot.com/2016/12/fy-nyths-solar-electrical-system.html
What about a work wardrobe & what do you do, i.e. Do you work in an office or have a job related to all the sports you talk about in video? Thanks
I wait tables. The required work clothes consists of three matching logoed tee shirts and wearing jeans or a skirt.
I think you are a practical, pragmatic, sensible woman. :) Cute too ;)
I do the same thing, clean, wear again and dirty.
You getting alot of snow at Fy Nythe?
Have you seen the snow bank shots around my house? At it's deepest the snow was right around the eves. 537 inches in the mountains beside my house now.
Are you in the Northeast? Was wondering if you got hit hard by that big storm last week. Looks like you missed it from the latest video.
No I live in the mountains of northern Wyoming. We did not get that storm.
I love those snaps you included into this issue . . . you really are quite attractive (don't worry - I'm much too old to be of any concern!)
😎👍
Could a tiny house also accommodate a pet?
Sure! Lots of people have pets. Including big ones like a great dane!
Very true.
I thing my clothes should fit in a tiny home
sorry, sand point
I'm not sure I understand still. Can I put in a sand point? I don't know what that is?
My ex-wife's shoes and purses would fill your house wall to wall to the top, if you could even squeeze them all in there.
I guess I'm fortunate to have never developed a shoe or purse habit! :)
