    Here's an extra detail I've noticed on the 1971 live version for those who are interested... After he plays the DMaj7 chord he plays a quick extra chord of x099xx using his ring finger before returning to the A chord. He plays it when he sings the word 'it' on 'make it pay' which fits the note of the vocal. No-one seems to mention this on their tutorials.

    By the way, Justin. At the end of the "push in the back" riff, Neil hits the 9th fret, 4th string with his ring finger on beat 4, in that BBC video, which I've been doing after learning from this great lesson of yours. In case you missed it. Thanks, mate.

    Great tutorial Justin! For the chorus, if one wants to play what Neil plays (using BBC 1971 as reference), you should hit A - B - C# (on the 1st / high E string) for those high notes on the thumb-over chords . They really add to it. It doesn't require that much more effort.

  • @jonathanlambert7004
    @jonathanlambert7004 4 роки тому

    I'm worried. Iv just seen your playlist and it's so long I didn't have time to see the end of it. You must be nearly finished transcribing every song ever written. What will you do then?
    I have listened and learnt so much from you over the years I feel guilty as you have saved me a fortune in lessons I may of paid for. So thank you for helping the struggling would love to be better guitar players out here.
    Chords have never been a problem for me. The one major stumbling block (oops possible pun) is the left hand rhythm strumming and lead play. Both hands want to do the same thing, so to split tasks is really hard for me. I must of been dropped on my head as a baby.
    When I learn a strumming pattern. It all goes out the window even if I try and hum the melody. I have to literally play a song to death for weeks sometimes months just to get near a level to play it to someone. I'm 58 next year and been like this since teenage years
    Merry Christmas mate
    Love your dog

    Funny that you mentioned the tempo. The rest of the band (CSN) used tell stories about recording some of Neil's songs, literally having to wait till around 4 am in the morning when they were half asleep in order to slow the tempo down enough. So Justin, your not the only one who had a tough time getting down to Neil speed LOL.

    • @pxybxy
      @pxybxy 8 місяців тому

      Keeping tempo is the biggest challenge on this one.
      Then you simply need Neil’s soul.

    I'm not such a good guitar player as you but I learned hoe to play the guitar by watching Neil and how he uses his thumb for the barre chords so now it's the way I do it. I think Neil got it from Jimi Hendrix and it's actually important if you want to get the "Neil sound" of the guitar
