- NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - ( Parlophone 5431) Out of Britain, this 1966 release is one of seven singles issued by this trio of impeccably coiffed song birds between 1965 -1968. The Keith Mansfield & David Gold composed 'I Think Of You' along with the flipside, 'Please Don't Kiss Me' were performed by the Chantelles in the rock & roll B-movie, 'Dateline Diamonds'.
This girl group originally formed in 1958 as The LANA SISTERS. Led by Iris 'Riss' Long with Lynne Abrams and Mary O'Brien, for two years the group performed regularly at live shows and on television while releasing several singles on the UK Fontana label before the disbanding in 1960. Mary O'Brien changed her name to Dusty Springfield, joined her brother Tom and Reshad Feild and later Mike Hurst performing as the Springfields before she embarked on her own successful solo career.
Riss Long (aka Riss Lana & Riss Chantelle) fronted the Chantelles in 1965 along with Sandra Orr and Jay Adams and after the groups run ended in 1968, she retired from the performing aspect of the music business to devote her talents to the publishing side.
When I first saw dateline diamond and I heard this song I had to get this record. I went to Discogs and did not had a single copy so I requested it on the what list and it took more than a year, but when it popped up I didn’t hesitate to buy it and when it came I was so excited to have it. It is the rarest 45’s I have I in my collection.

The arrangement is absolutely key to the song and that shows the influence Burt Bacharach was having on so many writers in the 60s, Keith Mansfield included.

Keith Mansfield is the man behind the beautiful orchestral arrangement on "Reflections Of My Life" by The Marmalade.
Better example is 'Lovin' Things' & 'Wait for Me Mary-Anne' plus of course most of Love Affair's Hits. ..... Just saying !

Dateline Diamonds is a 1965 British music-film. The film was shot in black and white. The "pop and cop" genre of film was a popular concept in the UK during the early 1960s to highlight young music talent and was geared to appeal directly to the young teenage market. The film was a low-budget B movie and released to support the main feature film Doctor in Clover starring Leslie Phillips.[1][2]
The plot involves an international criminal gang who use the MV Galaxy (the ship which was the home of 1960s pirate radio station Radio London) to smuggle stolen diamonds from the UK to Amsterdam. (This plot point is based on a number of false assumptions: firstly, that bands would be asked to give interviews on board the ship: any interviews would in fact have been taped on land; secondly, that bands' agents would be allowed to visit the ship in order to promote their clients: they would not; thirdly, that agents for Dutch bands would take boats directly to the ship from The Netherlands; and finally, that people visiting the pirate radio ships would not be searched by Customs). The final sequence, showing Ray Anton and Pro Forma, Mark Richardson and the Small Faces performing on stage, was filmed during a genuine Radio London night at the Rank Ballroom in Watford.[3]
Dateline Diamonds features the original lineup of British band Small Faces (Jimmy Winston was replaced in 1966 by Ian McLagan). Band manager Don Arden arranged for Small Faces to appear in the film as a promotional vehicle for "I've Got Mine", the follow-up to their debut single "Whatcha Gonna Do About It". However, the film's release was delayed and the band received no other publicity for their single, which failed to chart. The film also features a young Kiki Dee.
Dateline Diamonds was released on VHS and is currently available on DVD format.
Very interesting. Thank you for the information, I had no idea, but then again, I am an American! This was probably never released here in the USA, which is a crying shame. All I know is that I really love music of all types, and if it's a good song, it makes no difference where or who recorded it!

I have the VHS... The DVD is hugely expensive. (one is about £50, the other is £150 !!). I guess no-one is selling, they're all holding onto it.
