My dad turned me on to George when he took me with him to a bar and sent me to a push button jute box..I was 16..I enjoyed hanging with him..as I grew older my love for George Jones music grew..me and my dad became good friends.. probably my best..we had our ups and downs but we were able to have an understanding...so as time passed we listened to many songs by George..and I even turned him on to some he never heard..but he's gone now and I discovered this song..he probably already knew of it..but it never got played..now I wish we could have a beer and go play the jute box and sang to this one..love u pops
Same for me. I even had Jones played at his funeral.

Mr. Heart & Soul ! My dad use to say back in the 1980's, The man that can out-sing George Jones hasn't been born yet. This still holds true today! I look forward to the day I'll see my Daddy again and Mr. George Jones! And praise the Lord ...to see my savior, Jesus!

What many do not know is that George Jones, Janis Joplin, Tex Ritter (Tantamount entertainer to Roy Rogers) Mark Chesnutt, Clay Walker, Tracy Byrd, Jimmy Johnson, (former Dallas Cowboy Coach), Bum Phillips (Former Houston Oilers/New Orleans Saints Coach) all grew up within 30 miles of each other in the Beaumont - Orange, Port Arthur, Texas - Southeast Texas Region. In his hometown, there are no statues, no plaques, no roads, no schools named in his memory.

Takes me back when I listened to the song but I didn't know who George Jones was. He was most definitely the king of country music and the life of my life. Love you George Jones, missed your live performance years ago.
This is one of my favorite recordings by George Jones. A beautiful song. One day when I was really hurting emotionally. I listened to this song and it made me feel better and got me through the rest of the day. Great performance of this song on Hee Haw!!. Love it!!.

I already thought that there was no other rendition of this one than the one that's been on UA-cam for quite some time. What a shame he didn't perform this one more often on live shows.

@@MarcosBryant-lj8zi Great question. I guess it’s just his ability to be the song he’s singing. It just pulls me in. When I hear this particular song I feel life where I grew up in NC. The town is pretty much gone now and I could envision a montage of pictures from the ‘50s and ‘60s of the town. I have long wondered if all the “pouring his heart out when he sang“ had a personal impact on George. We know their breakup had a bad impact on both Tammy and George. Their story is the stuff opera is made of. Did I mention I am an opera lover? Yep. George’s talent affects lots of people.
